    Anantnag, Mar 03: Inspector General of CRPF (operations) Kashmir M S Bhatia Friday said that the force is in constant touch with the Kashmiri Pandits across the Valley in a bid to strengthen their security further.

    “We are in constant touch with the KPs wherever they are in the Valley. All efforts are being made to strengthen their security and provide them all possible security cover,” Bhatia told reporters at Bijbehara, Anantnag, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), on the sidelines of a function.

    He said that security of all the minority pickets in South Kashmir and elsewhere is being reviewed on daily basis to ensure safe and secure environment to KPs. To a query about the number of active militants in Kashmir, he said that the number keeps fluctuating and it won’t be possible to comment on the actual number. “Recently, two dreaded militants were killed in South Kashmir and operations against militants are going on in a well-coordinated manner,” he said—(KNO)

    SRINAGAR: The modern bullet and bomb-proof vehicle introduced by CRPF that was recently deployed during a gunfight between militants and army in the Awantipora area of Kashmir on Tuesday, came under spotlight after the photograph of one such vehicle during the operation was circulated on social media.

    The Hindustan Times reported, the CSRV or Critical Situation Response Vehicle can accommodate at least three commandos and be raised to reach the upper floors of a building while shielding them from the bullets, in counter insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir’s urban areas.

    Two CSRVs were designed and developed for counter-terror operations in urban or semi-urban areas during 2018-2020, The Hindustan Times reported.

    CRPF officers have two CSRVs and one of them was used in Pulwama as the two militants refused to surrender and continued to fire indiscriminately at forces.

    The hard armour at CSRV’s front can also be used to break walls and provide an entry into a building.

    CSRVs came under the spotlight after the photograph of one of them at the scene of Tuesday’s operation in JK’s Awantipora was circulated on social media.

    Pertinent to mention, the two militants Aqib Mushtaq Bhatt and Aijaz Ahmad Bhatt blamed for the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit days earlier were shot dead in the operation in Awantipora. An army man was also killed and another was injured in the operation.

    The two were hiding in a mosque and were also allegedly involved in the killing of two migrant workers last year.

    Srinagar, Mar 02: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has inducted a bomb/bulletproof armoured vehicle also known as CSRV (critical situation response vehicle) to fight militancy in Kashmir.

    Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that bullet-proof vehicles, wall-through radars and drones are some of the new gadgets inducted by CRPF into its counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir.

    They said several of these hi-tech equipment were used in Pulwama encounter recently in which two militants were killed.

    Speaking exclusively to KNO, Alok Avasthy, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations (CRPF) South Kashmir, said that to ensure the zero percent collateral damage and successful anti-militancy operations in the Kashmir, the CSR vehicle has been inducted in CRPF which has a space for four men including a Commander who directs his men to target the terrorists.

    He said that during encounters, they felt the need of a vehicle that would ensure zero casualities to the force and CSR is a best choice. “ This is a modern bullet and bomb-proof vehicle for room/house interventions during encounters in Kashmir Valley,” the DIG said. “This is a confidence booster for jawans as they know, bullet can’t hit them in this vehicle. This has helped to raise the morale of soldiers on ground.”

    He said that the vehicle acts as a force multiplier in situations like narrow lanes and by-lanes where you need a sort of intervene in a room or house where a terrorist is held up. “The vehicle can go high upto 50 feet and aim the target easily,” he said—(KNO)

    Srinagar, 28 Feb (GNS): A CRPF trooper ended his life by shooting self dead with his service rifle in Nowshera area of Jammu district reports said on Tuesday.

    A police offical confirming the incident identified the deceased as CT Sarith of 245 Batallion.

    The cause of him taking such an extreme step was not immediately known, the official said adding that investigation has been launched into the incident. (GNS)

  • CRPF personnel save man’s life with timely CPR in Anantnag

    Srinagar, Feb 25: A CRPF personnel breathed life into a man having a cardiac arrest by performing timely cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), an official from the federal police department said.

    According to CRPF public relations officer (PRO), a Srinagar resident Wasim Raza Wani, who serves in the power department at Bijbehara in the south Kashmir district suffered cardiac arrest near Kandizal Jhelum Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

    He said an alert Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed on the national highway guard duty saved Wani’s life by performing CPR on him.

    He also gave Wani first aid medicine by virtue of which he was stabilised.

    After saving his life, the personnel sent Wani to a hospital for further treatment, the PRO added.–(PTI)

    Dantewada: A jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district, police said on Sunday.

    The incident took place on Saturday night at the headquarters of the CRPF’s 195th battalion in Barsoor police station area, around 400 km away from capital Raipur, an official said.

    The jawan succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Raipur at 1.40 am on Sunday, he said.

    “Constable Gunin Das, belonging to CRPF’s 195th battalion, shot himself with an Insas rifle at his barrack in the unit. On hearing the gunshot, his colleagues rushed there and found him seriously injured,” he said.

    He was immediately taken to the unit’s hospital, from where he was shifted to Dantewada district hospital. Later, he was airlifted to Raipur and admitted to a private hospital where he died during treatment, he added.

    Das, a native of Assam, had joined the duty on Saturday after returning from leave, he said.

    “No suicide note was found at the spot and investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason that prompted him to take the extreme step,” he added.

    The CRPF is extensively deployed in south Bastar, which comprises three districts, including Dantewada, for anti-Naxalite operations.
