    SRINAGAR: Vivrant Sharma, an all-rounder from Jammu, finally made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Rajasthan at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Vivrant became the sixth player from Jammu and Kashmir to play in the IPL, joining the ranks of Parvez Rasool, Rasikh Salam, Abdul Samad, Umran Malik, and Yudhvir Singh. Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up the top-rated all-rounder in the IPL player’s auction for Rs 2.60 crore, exceeding his base price of Rs 20 lakhs.

    During the toss on Sunday, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Aiden Markram said, “It’s a used wicket. There have been some close ones. Most of the time we’ve played decent cricket but not been able to get over the line. A couple of changes – Phillips comes in for Brook. Vivrant Sharma makes his debut.”

    Prior to his IPL debut, Vivrant had played nine T20s for J&K, scoring 191 runs at an average of 23.87 and a strike rate of 128.18. He has also taken six wickets with an economy of 5.73.

    Vivrant has an impressive record in List A cricket, averaging 39.92 in 14 matches, with a highest score of 154*. He has also taken eight wickets in this format. Vivrant has played seven first-class matches for J&K as well. His IPL debut is a significant milestone in his career, and fans will be eager to see what he can do on the big stage.

The news of his sudden demise has caused immense grief and sadness among his family, friends, and the entire village community.

    According to media reports, Mushtaq experienced the attack at his home during Sehri time, following which he was immediately taken to the District Hospital Bandipora in an unconscious state. Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

    Mushtaq, who was known for his exceptional skills on the cricket field, was associated with several local cricket clubs, and his untimely death has left his fellow players and loved ones in a state of disbelief. The entire community is mourning the loss of this talented athlete, who will be deeply missed.

    Salim Durani’s exploits on the cricket field are well known. His ability to hit sixes and his penchant for taking crucial wickets, have been extensively reported. But what was the man like off the field? What made him so charismatic?

    More than six feet in height, his appearance was striking. He was like a Pathan warrior who wielded a bat like a sword and cut down rival bowlers mercilessly. But merely good looks and skill do not attract the kind of devoted fan following that he had in his heydays. He was also a very generous and warm-hearted human being. His inner beauty was as evident as his exterior good looks. He had qualities that endeared him to millions of cricket fans throughout India.

    Sunil Gavaskar in his book Sunny Days has narrated an incident which illustrates the humble and benevolent nature of Salim Durani. The ace batter from Mumbai had so much respect for Durani that he used to call him Uncle Salim. Gavaskar writes that Durani was a unique character. He was quiet and calm but this was sometimes misunderstood by others. They were quick to say that Durani was a moody person.

    Gavaskar further writes that money was a commodity that Salim uncle could never retain with himself. He was not money minded person and was always willing to help everyone in cash or kind. Before the Indian team went for the West Indies tour of 1971, the players were invited to play a match against Sri Lanka in a small town within India. They had to travel by train and the cold wintry night made sleeping a problem. Gavaskar had nothing to keep himself warm. But on the other hand, Durani had brought a blanket. With his customary magnanimity he handed his blanket to Gavaskar and assured the youngster that he would make alternative arrangements for himself.

    The next morning, after waking up, Gavaskar could not find Durani in his own compartment. After walking about, he finally discovered Durani sleeping in another compartment. He had no blanket and was sleeping curled up tightly obviously because he was feeling cold. Gavaskar was astounded. Here was a star Test cricketer of international fame who had chosen to sleep in discomfort so that the junior-most member of the team could sleep soundly. At the time Gavaskar had not played even a single Test match for India.

    It was from that day that Gavaskar began to call him Uncle Salim. He was protective and helpful just like an uncle would be to any family youngster. His attitude to newcomers was so helpful that they would forget their nervousness and talk freely with him and seek his advice. They knew instinctively that he would be a friend, mentor and guide to them.

    Durani also had a great sense of humour. He never allowed disappointments to make him dejected. When he was not selected for a tour of England, a journalist asked him: “Can you tell us why the selectors did not pick you in the side?” Durani replied with a wry smile: “Maybe they thought England would be too cold for me.” But hoping to provoke an angry response, the journalist persisted: “You were also not selected for a tour of Australia even though your game was perfect. What can be the reason?” Again Durani refused to be provoked. “Maybe they thought Australia would be too hot for me. They did not want me to be uncomfortable,” he replied again with a smile.

    Salim Durani belonged to a different period and had a different attitude towards cricket and life. Had he been born in modern times, he would have been in the top drawer of IPL recruits. The present IPL season is now in progress and we see many players with less than half of Durani’s ability earning money in crores. Durani earned very little and was sometimes in financial difficulty. In those days players were paid less than two hundred rupees per match. But money was never a major consideration for Durani. For him it was something that came and went.

    Former cricketer Raju Mukherjee has described Durani as a man who was a free soul without a care for the morrow. He had no inhibition and no ego. He would sometimes borrow money and then with that money, buy a drink for the man who gave him the money. Mukherjee has written in a blog that this is what happened to himself when he was playing with Durani in the Moin-ud-Dowla trophy tournament in Hyderabad in 1976.

    Greed for money, fame and success were not a part of Durani’s mental makeup. He was a gentleman at heart and managed with whatever life gave him. It was these qualities–generosity, selflessness and independent nature–that made him a folk hero among cricketers. It is unlikely that any of the modern day players will be able to fill the void that Durani left in Indian cricket.

    Jamnagar: Salim Durani, one of the finest all-rounders, passed away at his home here after a prolonged battle with cancer, on Sunday. He was 88, according to a family source.

    Born in Afghanistan, Durani had Pashtun origins and was known for his batting and bowling prowess that left the spectators thrilled.

    “He will always be remembered for hitting sixes when spectators demanded. Hitting sixes during that period was rare,” remembered a family friend in Mumbai.

    Kohli only studied till class 12 and waved goodbye to education afterward to pursue his dream as a cricketer. He completed his schooling at Savior Convent School in Paschim Vihar, Delhi. He cleared 10th grade in 2004 from the same school.

    While sharing the mark sheet, Kohli pointed out how there was no mention of a sport on the official scoreboard. This lack of sports education and training in the country leads to many talents like Kohli going unnoticed and ultimately wasted. He noted the lack of sports in Indian schools in his caption which read, “It’s funny how the things that add the least to your marksheet, add the most to your character. #LetThereBeSport.”

    “Although I wasn’t not called up to represent any franchise for my services, I thankfully received high praises from all around”, says Aamir.

    Expressing his jubilation over the call for trials now, Aamir says that he never dreamt about being called up to represent himself on such a big platform.”I never had dreamt that one day I could reach this level where I will be called to represent such a big platform. I am very happy that at least my efforts have not gone wasted. I will fight and put all my efforts into making my name appear on the ultimate list one day,” Aamir said.

    “With this opportunity, my wings have flapped and I am finding a new way to fight, for this milestone is a challenge for me now.”

    An argument over selfies swiftly escalated into a brawl with a baseball bat and a vehicle pursuit in Mumbai for cricketer Prithvi Shaw.

    In the police investigation, eight persons are accused of charging at Shaw and his friend, shattering the glass of their car, and demanding Rs 50,000.

    The accused, Shobhit Thakur and Sana or Sapna Gill, have denied the allegations and accused Shaw of attacking them first.

    According to Shaw’s friend’s accusation, the brawl started in the early hours of Wednesday at a fancy hotel near the Mumbai airport after two admirers – a guy and a woman – approached the cricketer for photos.

    As they refused to back down and wanted more photos, Shaw phoned a friend and the hotel management to have the fans removed.

    After being ejected out, the supporters waited outside for Prithvi and, together with a few others armed with baseball bats, swarmed Shaw, the complaint alleged.

    As Shaw and his buddy fled, they pursued the car, caught it at a traffic signal near Oshiwara, and cracked the windscreen, according to several media reports.

    According to Shaw’s buddy, they also wanted Rs 50,000 and threatened to file a bogus police report.

    Others mentioned in the complaint, however, have denied the claims.

    In an interview with the media, Sapna Gill’s counsel, Ali Kashif Khan, said that Prithvi Shaw attacked her.

    Gill’s companion videotaped her battling with Shaw, who was brandishing a broken baseball bat.
