Eid Shopping: JK Bank Records Rs 564 Cr Transfer During The Day

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The markets across Kashmir did not exhibit any indication of revival even after the delayed crescent added a day to the Eid shopping in the subcontinent. People remained busy in managing the basics including bread, mutton, vegetables and other foods.

Jammu and Kashmir Bank that is the custodian of almost two-thirds of deposits in Jammu and Kashmir has made public some basic information about the transactions in their system. Till 5 pm, on April 21, the data suggested Rs 564 crore was transacted through a total of 16.72 lakh transactions. This includes Rs 331.89 crore of transactions using the MPay as the card transactions were at Rs 118.5 crore and UPI transactions at Rs 115.08 crore.

In the last three days, as already reported, the bank transacted Rs 2510 crore.

However, the business transactions were not very encouraging. Insiders in the banking sector told TheNewsCaravan that not much of the transactions took place using the POS (point of sale) machines that most of businesses use. During the entire day, one insider said Rs 8.51 crore was transacted in 60232 sales, which is very insignificant given the tradition and practices on the eve of Eid.

Even the cash that moved out of the banking system during the day was too little – only Rs 89 crore in 177292 crore.

“Transactions did take place but people avoided spending the money,” one banker said. “People tend to spend as less as possible. Most of the transactions did not result in movement of cash out of the system and the digital transfer in business was too little.”

In the last three days, the traders thought that the inclement weather was playing the spoilsport but Friday exhibited that while people were out and there were no rains, people avoided markets. Most of the markets remained deserted for the entire day. “Compare the figures of last Eid with this Eid, you will come to understand where the economy is heading,” one senior trader said.

Market insiders hope that the onset of marriage season may trigger some turnaround.

Lucknow’s Markazi Chand Committee has announced that the crescent for Ramadan 2023 has not been sighted on March 22 evening. Hence, the first fast of Ramzaan this year will be observed on March 24.

    Islamic calendar

The month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. The 12 months are: Muharram, Safar, Rabi’ al-Awwal, Rabi’ al Thani, Jumada al-Awwal, Juamda al-Thani, Rajab, Sha’aban, Ramadan (the month of fasting), Shawwal, Dhu al-Qadah and Dhu al-Hijjah (the month in which Muslims go for Haj – pilgrimage).

Even though the Islamic calendar has 12 months, being a lunar calendar, it is shorter than the Gregorian calendar – nearly ten days shorter, in fact. This is why Ramadan falls at a different time every year according to the Gregorian calendar.

Srinagar, Mar 22: Announcing the fallibility of the ‘witness’ about sighting of crescent from Poonch, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Wednesday evening said the Ramadan 1444 A.H will begin from coming Friday.

Islam told GNS that the office had entrusted its men across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to see if the crescent is observable at any place. “We had earlier received a ‘witness’ from Poonch, which after being put to scrutiny turned too feeble to enable us reach the decision about the start of Ramadan from tomorrow (Thursday)”, Islam said adding “Apart from that witness there was nothing significant seen anywhere.”

“As such the holy month of Ramadan in Jammu and Kashmir will begin on coming Friday.”

“I in advance extend my wishes to the whole Ummah especially to people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of the start of auspicious month”, he said further urging the people to make lots of prayers in favour of everyone and nevertheless also help the downtrodden sections of society.

Notably, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind earlier in the evening announced that crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in Delhi or in any other part of the country and as such month of Ramzan will begin from March 24. (GNS)

  • Ramzan 2023: Crescent moon not sighted in Saudi Arabia

Ramzan 2023: Crescent moon not sighted in Saudi Arabia

    [ad_1]

Riyadh: The moon sighting committee of the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia announced that the first fast of the month of Ramzan 2023 will be on Thursday, March 23, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Tuesday.

Therefore, Wednesday, March 22, will be the last and 30th day of Shaban 1444 Hijri.

Saudi Al-Ekhbariya channel reported, “It was not possible to see the crescent of the month of Ramzan today in the observatories of Tabuk, Tamir and Sudair.”

The moon sighting committee in the Kingdom meets again on Wednesday evening to confirm the sighting of the moon.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia had called on Muslims to sight the crescent of the holy month of Ramzan. The Supreme Court called on whoever sights the crescent – either by the naked eye or through binoculars – to report to the nearest court and register their observation.

On the other hand, Eid-ul-Fitr, marks the end of the month-long fast. Eid ul Fitr is expected to begin on Friday, April 21, 2022. Eid holidays will be from Ramzan 29 until Shawwal 3 – based on the Islamic calendar.

The exact date of the start of Eid-ul-fitr will be confirmed closer to the date, based on the moon-sighting tradition.

    What is Ramzan?

In Islam, Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar— a lunar calendar consisting of twelve months beginning with Muharram, and ending with Zul-Hijjah. Each month starts with the sighting of the moon. Eid Al Fitr, on the other hand, marks the end of the month-long fast.

The calendar has been observed for more than 1,440 years and is used to date important Islamic events including the start of Ramzan, Eid-Al-Fitr, and the beginning of the Haj.

Ramzan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar and is believed to be the month during which the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, and abstain from food and drink during this period.
