Sharad Pawar has failed to create successor who can take NCP forward: Shiv Sena (UBT)

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday claimed Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has failed to create a successor who could take his party forward.

An editorial in Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamana also claimed the jumbo committee set up to decide on the new president of NCP after Pawar announced his decision to step down included some members who were keen to go with the ruling BJP. But these members were compelled to ask Pawar to continue due to pressure from NCP cadres, it said.

Notably, the Thackeray-led faction is one of the three constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) along with the NCP and Congress.

    MS Education Academy

“Sharad Pawar is like an old banyan tree in politics who had left the Congress party, founded NCP, and expanded it. Pawar is indeed an important figure in national politics and his words command respect. However, he has failed to create a successor who could take his party forward,” the editorial said.

This was reflected when Pawar announced his resignation as NCP chief, which left many (leaders) shattered to their core, it said.

“Pawar has a fair idea of people around him and their intentions. Pawar had said he would not stop those (leaders) who want to leave NCP. It (the announcement of resignation and its withdrawal which galvanised party cadres) means those who wanted to defect have temporarily suspended their plans,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) said.

The Saamana claimed the pressure mounted by NCP cadres compelled the jumbo committee set up to decide on the new president of NCP to ask Pawar to continue in the position.

Sharad Pawar last Friday decided to rescind his decision to resign as NCP chief, heeding to pleas of party leaders and cadres, three days after he announced his decision to step down.

The editorial has evoked a stinging reaction from NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal who rebuked Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, the executive editor of Saamana, which is published in Marathi and Hindi languages.

“Uddhav Thackeray has already clarified what Sharad Pawar has written in his autobiography ‘Lok Majhe Sangati’. Thackeray had said he didn’t want to create any problems in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Why is Sanjay Raut doing this? What is his problem? Does he think that the NCP shall leave the MVA? Sharad Pawar Saheb has done politics for years equal to your age,” Bhujbal said in Nashik.

He said there are capable leaders like Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule and Jayant Patil in the MVA who can ably handle whatever responsibilities assigned to them.

The editorial also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

“The BJP is calling Pawar’s resignation a political farce. But it should look at its own leader Narendra Modi who is world famous for farcical behaviour. The BJP is the only party that doesn’t wish anything good to happen in other political parties,” it said.

The current BJP is formed by breaking and wrecking other political parties in the country, it alleged.

“Pawar returning to head the NCP has not only re-energised that party, but several Opposition parties in the country also felt relieved. Those who are getting ready to join the BJP should first answer the question of whether they want to live for 100 days like a lamb or one day like a tiger,” the editorial asked.

The Saamana further said people will end the political careers of those leaders who will defect and join the BJP.

“No matter how big a lieutenant is, joining BJP is like inviting trouble,” it said.

Without taking names, the editorial claimed the leaders who had ditched Shiv Sena are facing a worse situation than that of a dog living on a pile of garbage.

“There is not an iota of morality left in the BJP. People can join the BJP under the threat of ED or CBI but the sword will continue to hang on their heads for the rest of their life,” it said.

The Pawar saga also means that leaders do not represent a political party, but its workers do, it said.

“When hoards of party workers gathered outside Pawar’s residence and the party office, it gave a clear message. After Eknath Shinde’s rebellion, Shiv Sena witnessed the same thing. MLAs and MPs left Shiv Sena but party workers are still with the original Sena,” the Saamana said.

  • Govts to Big Tech: Create responsible AI first and then make it public

Govts to Big Tech: Create responsible AI first and then make it public

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The generative AI era came fast. However, the government scrutiny into Big Tech on AI came much faster to promote responsible innovation and risk mitigation as AI chatbots begin to worry lawmakers and regulators worldwide.

The governments feel that companies have a fundamental responsibility to make sure their AI products are safe and secure before they are deployed or made public.

In the US, Vice President Harris and senior Administration officials met with CEOs of four American companies at the forefront of AI innovation this week to share concerns about the risks associated with AI.

    MS Education Academy

President Biden dropped by the meeting to underscore that companies have a fundamental responsibility to make sure their products are safe and secure before they are deployed or made public.

Harris told top Big Tech CEOs, including Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (ChatGPT fame), that the private sector has an ethical, moral, and legal responsibility to ensure the safety and security of their products.

She stressed that in order to realise the benefits that might come from advances in AI, “it is imperative to mitigate both the current and potential risks AI poses to individuals, society, and national security”.

“Every company must comply with existing laws to protect the American people. I look forward to the follow through and follow up in the weeks to come,” Harris said.

She told the CEOs that advances in technology have always presented opportunities and risks, and generative AI is no different.

“AI is one of today’s most powerful technologies, with the potential to improve people’s lives and tackle some of society’s biggest challenges. At the same time, AI has the potential to dramatically increase threats to safety and security, infringe civil rights and privacy, and erode public trust and faith in democracy,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, the UK’s competition watchdog this week launched an initial review of “AI foundational models” like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s Bard, saying the move will help create an early understanding of the market for AI models and what opportunities and risks these could bring.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the initial piece of work will help create competition and consumer protection principles to best guide the development of AI-driven markets going forward.

“AI has burst into the public consciousness over the past few months but has been on our radar for some time. It’s a technology developing at speed and has the potential to transform the way businesses compete as well as drive substantial economic growth,” said Sarah Cardell, Chief Executive of the CMA.

“Our goal is to help this new, rapidly scaling technology develop in ways that ensure open, competitive markets and effective consumer protection,” she added.

In a white paper, the UK government in March asked regulators, including the CMA, to think about how the innovative development and deployment of AI can be supported in line with the 5 overarching principles of: safety, security and robustness; appropriate transparency and explainability; fairness; accountability and governance; and contestability and redress.

In line with the government’s AI white paper and the CMA’s role to support open, competitive markets, the review seeks to understand how foundation models are developing and produce an assessment of the conditions and principles that will best guide the development of foundation models and their use in the future.

The development of AI touches upon a number of important issues, including safety, security, copyright, privacy, and human rights, as well as the ways markets work.

The Indian government also wants Big Tech to create a responsible and ethical AI.

“AI is a kinetic enabler of the digital economy and innovation ecosystem. Government is harnessing the potential of AI to provide personalized and interactive citizen-centric services through digital public platforms,” according to the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has broadly outlined the IndiaAI programme and how it will help the country build world-class platforms, solutions and tools to not only solve local issues but also help the world.

“We aim to build commercially deployable AI platforms and solutions, developed by a vibrant startup ecosystem in the country which is our primary goal,” according to the minister.

India aims to become a global powerhouse of AI which does not just stop at integrating foreign chatbots but building next-generation AI-based innovations to empower billions of citizens.

Meta seeks OpenAI’s help to create coding assistant for its engineers

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Meta (formerly Facebook) is reportedly in touch with Microsoft and OpenAI to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant for its engineers.

According to ‘Command Line’ by The Verge’s Alex Heath, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth recently told employees about the plan, saying the cost for building an AI coding engineer is “crazy” at about seven cents per query.

“That’s the only place in the company we’re really considering working with Microsoft and OpenAI, just because there’s a natural business integration there,” he told employees.

    MS Education Academy

He revealed that the company is also working on a “companion that is more about all of our code and our internal documentation, built on our own infrastructure”.

“We are moving very fast. I think we’ll have something to play with internally, I’m hoping in mid-June, maybe late June,” Bosworth said.

According to reports, OpenAI has received $300 million from VCs at a valuation of $27-$29 billion.

VC firms, including Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive and K2 Global picking up new shares, according to documents seen by TechCrunch.

Microsoft has already infused around $10 billion in OpenAI that is behind the highly-successful generative AI chatbot called ChatGPT.

  • Amit Shah came to create divisions in Telangana: Harish Rao

Amit Shah came to create divisions in Telangana: Harish Rao

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao on Monday accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of trying to create divisions in the state. He was referring to Shah’s comments made a day earlier at a public meeting against the ruling Bharata Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government here.

“What did he say yesterday? Did he talk about the Rs 1,350 crores that we were supposed to receive? Did he mention ITIR, Bayyaram steel industry, or national project? He conveniently forgot the one who was involved in the paper leak,” Harish Rao said, according to a press release from his office.

The Telangana finance minister alleged that the purpose of Amit Shah’s visit to Telangana was to create caste and religious divisions among the people.

    MS Education Academy

“The BJP’s claims that they will come to power are an illusion. Will the deposit come from Khammam district? Will they come into power in the state? It’s not possible,” Harish Rao stated. He also alleged that many attendees were brought in from other districts for the BJP rally held in Chevella the previous day.

“No matter how many tricks anyone tries, we are the ones who hit the hat trick. We have a people’s government that is implementing many schemes without a guarantee. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao fought for the people, and we will continue to do so,” the Telangana finance minister said.

Harish Rao stated that the Telangana government is putting in efforts to provide relief to farmers affected by crop loss due to untimely rains. He said an announcement was made to provide Rs 10,000 per acre for crop loss, and instructions have been issued to the Chief Secretary to assess it.

The minister informed the Sitarama project would provide water for every crop in Khammam district in the coming months.

“Because KCR increased the value of the farmer, the value of the land increased. Farmers should not be discouraged by untimely rains. We have a farmer’s government,” said Harish Rao.

The finance minister said that the state has witnessed a significant increase in the cultivation of the Yasangi crop, from 14 lakh acres in 2014 to 56 lakh acres in 2023. He also mentioned that the government had bought crops worth 26,600 crores last year, as compared to 3600 crores in 2014.

Telangana only state with 100% institutional deliveries

Harish Rao aso praised Telangana as a role model to other states with 100% institutional deliveries for the year 2021 to 2022.

He shared the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Health Management Information System analytical report for 2020 – 21 and 2021 – 22 to buttress his point.

“The futuristic vision of Hon’ble CM #KCR Garu towards maternal health care as part of #ArogyaTelangana is showing results as declared by Central government. Congratulations to doctors, staff and entire health department for putting your best efforts in achieving such tremendous results,” he tweeted.

Unconventional Cousins Create Stunning Epoxy Resin Art Furniture In Kashmir, Turning Heads In Design World

    [ad_1]

    by Muskan Fatima

SRINAGAR: In a region where conformity is the norm, two engineering cousins stood out with their unconventional thinking and unwavering determination. Their remarkable creativity and innovation resulted in the birth of Epoxy Resin Art furniture in Kashmir, turning heads and sparking interest in the design world.

Epoxy is a type of synthetic resin used in a variety of applications such as adhesives, coatings, and paints. It is made by mixing two components, a resin and a hardener, which react to form a strong, durable and often waterproof material. Epoxy can bond materials together, fill gaps or cracks, and create a protective layer over a surface. It is commonly used in construction, woodworking, automotive repair, and marine applications.

During Covid, Kashif began researching and making use of internet resources. He believes that the internet can be resourceful if used to surf the right things. After a lot of brainstorming and hard work, the business venture officially started in 2021. As Covid led to job losses on a large scale, an idea like this seemed like a good option for employment generation. Moreover, Kashmir is known for its wood, and Kashmiris share a common love for wood in general, as seen from the popular Kashmiri wood-carved furniture found in many Kashmiri households.

The catch is that Divine Epoxy Furniture uses scrap wood to create unique and durable pieces of furniture that showcase the natural beauty of the wood. Scrap wood can be repurposed and incorporated into epoxy furniture as a sustainable and eco-friendly option, adding a rustic touch to the design while reducing waste and contributing to a more environmentally conscious approach to furniture making. Scrap wood can create a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture that tells a story and adds sentimental value to the item, making it more meaningful and valuable to the owner. Moreover, epoxy resin art gives a unique new look to the furniture, and since epoxy is waterproof, it also increases the lifespan of the furniture.

The harmonious marriage of wood and epoxy resin in furniture making creates a captivating and luxurious aesthetic that effortlessly blends organic warmth with modern elegance, resulting in exquisite pieces that are as visually striking as they are durable and functional. “Initially, people were surprised that something like this was made in Kashmir itself,” said Tanzeel Khan, a Research Scholar from SKUAST Shalimar who has been working with the duo and is part of the team.

Divine Epoxy Furniture mainly deals with Epoxy Coffee tables, Epoxy Wall clocks, Fractal burn kitchen cabinets, Customized Epoxy doors, and much more. Customers have given high praise to the craftsmanship and quality of their work. One customer shared, “I had a custom epoxy river table made for my living room, and it is absolutely stunning. The combination of wood and resin is breathtaking, and it is a real conversation starter.” Another customer stated, “I purchased an epoxy desk for my home office, and it has been a game-changer. It is so much more stylish than a regular desk, and it makes working from home feel like a luxury. The fact that it is so durable and easy to clean is just a bonus.”

They have recently started Fractal burning art as well, which involves using high voltage electrical currents to burn branch-like patterns into the wood. It gives an artistic look to the furniture and adds character to it.

Tanzeel Khan expressed his vision for the future by saying, “Our aim is to create a Hybrid industry.” While their journey has been filled with obstacles and challenges, they have persevered and learned valuable lessons along the way. They faced the challenge of entering the market and establishing their own unique niche. However, they view their journey as a great learning experience. The power of imagination is evident in their success, as they have brought their ideas to life through hard work and determination. Tanzeel Khan believes that exploring our potential can lead to limitless possibilities, and he encourages others to do the same.
