Hyderabad: A 23-year-old toddler’s life was saved by 108 ambulance staff by conducting CPR treatment within the necessary time.

The newborn, the daughter of migrant labourers Premnath Yadav and Kavitha, had swallowed water while being bathed by her mother and was rendered unconscious.

Telangana health minister T Harish Rao applauded the ambulance staff for their timely action.

“A 23-day-old baby’s life was saved by 108 ambulance staff by conducting CPR within necessary time in Koduru, Siddipet district. Your act within the emergency period is life saving,” he tweeted.

CPR treatment has gained prominence with the rise in cases of heart ailments across the country.

In wake of elevating cardiac deaths, the Telangana government would soon make Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) mandatory in industries employing above 100 people.

Health minister T Harish Rao while addressing the inaugural of the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training session at Sangareddy in March, said that an act making AED machines mandatory in gated communities, apartment communities, malls and other places will soon be implemented.

The minister held that around 15 lakh people were dying of cardiac arrest in the country and 50 percent of lives can be saved if the people get trained in CPR administration.

AED being the most important in such cases, Harish Rao said that the state government would procure 1,200 defibrillators worth Rs 15 crore to be made available in Basthi Dawakhanas, Primary Health Centres.

The minister further directed the officials to conduct training sessions for police personnel, Panchayat and SHG women in CPR, AED and mouth-to-mouth breathing techniques.

Harish Rao asserted that quick action by a person trained rightly in administering CPR would save the lives of many.

“Lifestyle change, food habits and lack of physical exercises were identified as main reasons behind the elevating cardiac death cases,” remarked Harish Rao.

Telangana’s Red Cross Society wing spreads awareness on do’s, don’ts of CPR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness programme was organised by the Telangana branch of the Indian Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Press Club of Hyderabad on Monday.

Live demonstration on the dos and don’ts while performing CPR was carried out at the program that saw attendees including the chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Telangana, Ajay Misra, head of the Emergency Medicine Department at NIMS, Dr Ashima Sharma.

The chief guest for the event was Ajay Misra, chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society-Telangana. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Ashima Sharma, head of the Emergency Medicine Department at NIMS, Hyderabad.

Ajay Misra while speaking as the chief guest of the event said, “Today, every 60 seconds, about 112 cardiac arrests take place, out of which 80 percent of them take place outside hospital settings where immediate medical help is not available.”

“Less than 2 percent of the people are aware about the concept of CPR, out of this number also, a small percentage of them can give effective CPR treatment to the patient,” he added.

The Telangana chapter of the Indian Red Cross Society in the coming months will be organising at least one CPR programme in every district of Telangana.

Dr Ashima Sharma, while delivering her keynote address said, “Training people is important because we need a large number of first responders so that the golden hour of survival can be utilised before medical help reaches the patient.”

“The first job is to dial 108 and ask for an ambulance and then perform CPR after identifying if the person is conscious or not as the procedure only works if the person is unconscious, do not bother and waste time checking the pulse, that is the doctor’s job,” she added.

Timely intervention by a physician at Help Hand Foundation’s Primary Health Care Center located in Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad saved a man who suffered a heart attack.

The man, aged 35 years, had collapsed due to cardiac arrest. At the center, the physician performed Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and saved his life. He was also administered adrenaline with oxygen support.

Later, the patient was immediately shifted to Osmania General Hospital in 108 ambulance.

Earlier Hyderabad police saved man’s life

It is not the first incident. Earlier too, a Hyderabad cop saved a man’s life who suddenly collapsed at the Aramghar Chowrastha.

In the video that went viral after the incident, the constable, Rajashekhar who works at the Rajendranagar Police Station was seen conducting a CPR process on the man.

Another cop saved a man’s life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him in the Bhupalpally district.

The incidents prove that CPR is a simple, yet effective technique that can be used to save lives in emergencies such as heart attacks, drowning, or choking. Knowing CPR can make all the difference in an emergency, and it is a valuable skill that everyone should learn.

  • Hyderabad: 1L to be trained in CPR, 1400 defibrillators to be installed

Hyderabad: 1L to be trained in CPR, 1400 defibrillators to be installed

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: With incidences of young men suddenly collapsing and succumbing to cardiac arrests on rise in Telangana, the state government has embarked on a programme to train one lakh people in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and placed orders for 1,400 defibrillators for deploying them in public places.

The health department has taken the initiative to train one lakh people in CPR.

Health Minister T. Harish Rao along with municipal administration minister K. T. Rama Rao launched the programme on Wednesday in association with GVK Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI).

The ministers voiced concern over the growing number of people succumbing to cardiac arrests.

Rama Rao said the visuals of a 24-year-old police constable succumbing to cardiac arrest while working out at a gym and another 19-year-old collapsing while dancing were shocking.

Telangana witnessed four such cases in a span of 10 days. Three deaths occurred in Hyderabad alone.

The minister said if people are trained in CPR, they can help save lives in such emergencies. CPR-trained people will be deployed in public places like bus and railway stations, malls and government offices.

Harish Rao said that the statistics show that 4,000 people are falling to sudden cardiac arrest everyday and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), nine out of 10 people can be saved with methods like CPR and use of defibrillators.

Meanwhile, minister KTR has also announced that orders for 1,400 defibrillators (AEDs) have been placed.

KTR announced this in response to a tweet by senior interventional cardiologist.
The minister said the number of defibrillators will be increased going forward.

Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) will be deployed in public areas.

Dr Mukharjee Madivada had recently suggested to KTR to install defibrillators in public places in Hyderabad as these will save lives. He had pointed out that sudden death is becoming more common especially after the Covid pandemic.

“CPR can save a significant number of people who experience sudden cardiac arrest. AED is a critical part of CPR and even lay people can use it with a simple training and public access defibrillators are already installed in majority of world class cities,” the doctor had tweeted.

According to Dr Hari Ram, Senior consultant and head, interventional cardiologist, SLG Hospitals, Hyderabad, bystander CPR can be initiated by the public also.

The cardiologist says while AED are available in few places, people need to know how to use this device. Delay of initial treatment leads to decreased blood supply to all important organs like heart, brain, liver, kidney, gut and lungs.

A man collapsed and died while playing badminton at Jayashankar Indoor Stadium Lalapet in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

This was the fourth such incident in Telangana in 10 days. CCTV footage of these incidents have gone viral on social media. Visuals of young men collapsing while working out in the gym or dancing during the wedding or playing games have shocked people.

On February 25, a 19-year-old collapsed and died while dancing at a wedding of his relative in Nirmal district.

Mutyam, a native of Maharashtra, was dancing at the wedding reception of a relative in Pardi Avillage of Kubeer mandal of Nirmal district.

A 24-year-old police constable died of cardiac arrest while working out at a gym in Hyderabad on February 22.

On February 20, a man collapsed and died during a Haldi ceremony as part of the wedding of his relative in Hyderabad. The 40-year-old man was applying turmeric to the groom when he suddenly collapsed and died before he could be taken to a hospital.

  • Hyderabad: Tamilisai urges citizens to learn on spot CPR

Hyderabad: Tamilisai urges citizens to learn on spot CPR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: In view of the sharp rise in cases of sudden heart attacks reported in recent times, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has urged that every citizen must learn the technique of performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

Tamilisai participated in the free community hands only-CPR programme at Gandhi Medical College on Friday which emphasized that more people be trained in administering CPR correctly.

“Emphasised timely CPR as FIRST AID on the spot within a time frame called GOLDEN HOUR’S will be life-saving. Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation must become a social movement. Everyone should learn it.”, stated the Governor in her tweet.

The workshop will be held for another two days at the medical college’s Alumni Association Building, Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad.

It saw the participation of over 300 people including students, teachers, policemen and the general public attending day 1 of the free workshop.

Trainer and volunteer from the American Heart Association, Dennis McCauley gave a demonstration to the audience on how to handle a person who has suddenly collapsed before initiating CPR.

Giving a step-by-step demonstration, he said that the first thing to do is to move the suffering person to a safe place followed by checking the person for response (breathing) and lastly initiating CPR immediately if the person does not respond.

Compression during the CPR process is the crucial part, remarked the trainers, adding, “It has to be two fingers above the chest bone and that can be in the middle of the chest. Also, the compressions should be two inches deep and they should be at the rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute.”

The programme was able to render useful information that many participants were unaware of, including those with medical backgrounds.

Performing CPR on an intoxicated person, CPR while the person is still breathing, etc were a few of the doubts the audience raised during the session.

Meanwhile, the alumni association has planned to put up Automated External Defibrillators (AED) at several locations across the city.

  • From the Byrds to CPR: David Crosby’s 10 greatest recordings

From the Byrds to CPR: David Crosby’s 10 greatest recordings

    [ad_1]

The Byrds – Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season) (1965)

The Byrds: Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season) – video

Crosby co-founded the Byrds, cementing his place as a major architect of the 1960s folk-rock movement. The title track of the California group’s second LP – a Pete Seeger cover with lyrics largely plucked from the Book of Ecclesiastes – pleads for peace while meditating on the sometimes bittersweet cyclical nature of life. The song also shows off Crosby’s gift for musical subtlety: He starts the song with elegiac guitar marked by precise rhythmic movements and then demonstrates an almost supernatural ability to sing with his bandmates, finding the harmonic sweet spot like a magnet clicking into place.

The Byrds – Eight Miles High (1966)

The Byrds: Eight Miles High – video

In addition to transforming rock’n’roll by incorporating country and folk music, the Byrds released one of psychedelic rock’s greatest singles, Eight Miles High. Crosby co-wrote the song with Gene Clark and Roger McGuinn; depending on who you ask, the song was either inspired by the band’s first aeroplane ride or by taking drugs. Musically, however, Eight Miles High absorbed influences from John Coltrane and Ravi Shankar, creating a fusion of smouldering guitar jangle and jazz verve that suited Crosby’s rhythmic inventiveness. The Byrds’ vocal harmonies sound like those of a haunted church choir and tap into the disorientation and paranoia simmering just below the song’s surface.

The Byrds – Lady Friend (1967)

The Byrds: Lady Friend – video

One of Crosby’s final major contributions to the Byrds was penning the standalone single Lady Friend, a sorely underrated psychedelic pop gem. A song about steeling yourself for the solitude of a painful breakup – Crosby compares it to being overcome by a wave while being far offshore – it reveals his knack for vulnerable lyrics and memorable melodies. To this simple foundation the rest of the Byrds add coppery guitar riffs, jaunty horns and a chipper tempo, transforming something plaintive and vulnerable into a resilient song about keeping a stiff upper lip.

Crosby, Stills & Nash – Wooden Ships (1969)

Crosby, Stills & Nash: Wooden Ships – video

Two significant things Crosby did after being ousted from the Byrds: bought a schooner called the Mayan and started hanging out with Stephen Stills. On one occasion, the two men and Jefferson Airplane’s Paul Kantner were in Florida on the boat and worked up Wooden Ships. The sprawling psychedelic rocker, a pointed anti-war song, describes the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, where survivors are attempting to figure out where to go. Crosby’s liquid tenor takes centre stage on his solo verses, as if he’s a sage-like narrator describing the scene. However, his vocal harmonies with Stills set the blueprint for the greatness of Crosby, Stills & Nash.

    Crosby, Stills & Nash – Guinnevere (1969)

Crosby, Stills & Nash: Guinnevere – video

Crosby contributed this elegant folk-rock highlight of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s self-titled 1969 debut album. Written about a trio of women in his life – Joni Mitchell; his late girlfriend Christine Hinton, who died in a car crash; and a mystery woman he declined to name during a 2008 Rolling Stone interview – Guinnevere demonstrates Crosby’s evolution into a more sophisticated songwriter. Lyrically, the interlocking stories of the three women contain moments of immense beauty and bewitching mystery. Musically, Crosby treats this narration with reverence, employing a restrained vocal delivery that matches the gorgeous, chiming guitar chords and harmonies.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Ohio (1970)

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: Ohio – video

Written by Neil Young after the shootings of four Kent State University students by the Ohio National Guard, the song was a pointed, angry indictment of not just the violent event, but also the Vietnam war and those abusing positions of power. Crosby especially expressed the anger and frustration of the time, crying out “How many more?” and “Why?” as the song comes to an end. He never lost that anguished feeling: in the years leading up to the pandemic, Crosby performed Ohio as the last song of his live sets, a stark reminder that neither the tragic event nor the lives of the students should be forgotten.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – Déjà Vu (1970)

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: Déjà Vu – video

The title track of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s second album is lyrically quite literal – Crosby said he wrote it after a sailing trip that felt over familiar. Déjà Vu’s music matches this disorienting thought: It’s circuitous and adventurous, with multiple movements that dabble in scat-singing, dizzying syncopation, temperate jazz, pastoral folk and psychedelia-tinged rock.

    David Crosby – Laughing (1971)

    David Crosby: Laughing – video

Crosby was dealing with dual traumas while making his 1971 solo album, If I Could Only Remember My Name: processing the breakup of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and navigating the grief from Hinton’s 1969 death. He wrote Laughing, however, to express gentle scepticism about George Harrison talking up the wisdom of a guru. “A child laughing in the sun knows more about God than I do,” he told Rolling Stone in 2021. The accompanying music is languid and introspective, internalising the guiding influence of the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia (an integral part of the recording sessions) and a gentle psychedelic vibe.

    CPR – Morrison (1998)

    CPR: Morrison – video

Crosby’s career took him in all sorts of unexpected directions in the 80s and 90s, including singing backup for Indigo Girls and Phil Collins and forming the jazz trio Crosby, Pevar & Raymond. Known as CPR, the group included guitarist Jeff Pevar and Crosby’s son, the keyboardist James Raymond. The sleek, piano-driven tune Morrison isn’t about Crosby’s notorious dislike of the Doors, but the perceptive song stresses that Oliver Stone’s 1991 movie about the band didn’t match up with the Jim Morrison that Crosby knew – and serves as a sober cautionary tale about fame and legacy.

David Crosby – Rodriguez for a Night (2021)

David Crosby: Rodriguez for a Night – video

Crosby enjoyed a late-career burst of creativity, releasing multiple solo records in the 2010s and beyond that found him collaborating with Michael McDonald, the members of Snarky Puppy, and one of his avowed favourites: Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen. The latter wrote the lyrics for Rodriguez for a Night, about a man who can’t compete romantically with an impish Lothario. In turn, Crosby and his band cook up a very funky, very Steely Dan-esque song with sax, horns, stacks of keyboards and one of Croz’s smoothest, most enthusiastic vocal performances.
