If I am corrupt, no one in world is honest: CM Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said he will appear before the CBI in the excise policy case and asserted that if he was “corrupt” then no one in the world was “honest”.

Addressing a press conference here over the CBI summons to him in the excise policy case, he claimed that BJP leaders were demanding his arrest and that if the saffron party had “ordered” the probe agency to arrest him, it cannot refuse to do so.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned the AAP leader in connection with the case on Sunday. He has been asked to be present at the agency headquarters at 11 am to answer queries of the investigating team, officials said.

    MS Education Academy

The central probe agency has already arrested former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the case.

It is alleged that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly refuted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The policy was later scrapped.

Kejriwal also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, levelling allegations of corruption against him.

“How can corruption be an issue for such a person who is submerged in corruption from head to toe,” he said and cited the charges levelled against Modi by former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik.

“I want to say to Modiji if Kejriwal is a thief or corrupt, then there isn’t a single honest man in this world,” he asserted.

Kejriwal said no party in the 75-year history of independent India had been targetted like the AAP because it has given hope to people which no other party has been able to do so far.

“The AAP has given hope to people that it can eradicate poverty, provide education and employment to their children. The prime minister wants to crush this hope,” he said.

In 30 years of the BJP rule in Gujarat, in which Modi was the chief minister for 12 years, the condition of not a single school could be improved, while the AAP government in Delhi turned around the government schools in five years, he said.

“A temporary classroom had to be set up when the prime minister visited a school in Gujarat…,” Kejriwal quipped.

He said the BJP was trying to corner the AAP and it first sent the party’s “number 2 and number 3” (Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain) leaders behind the bars and now they wanted to catch hold of him.

“The issue is not corruption or liquor scam. How could it be for a person who is submerged in corruption? I had cited various instances of corruption in my speech at Delhi Assembly in March and I got a call from Sanjay Singh (party MP) that I was next,” said the AAP supremo.

Batting for the now scrapped Excise Policy 2021-22 of his government, Kejriwal said it could have ended corruption.

“The same policy has led to a 50 per cent rise in revenue in the last year,” he claimed.

Kejriwal alleged torture and threats to those arrested by the central agencies in connection with the liquor scam probe.

“I want to ask the prime minister what is going on. They catch anyone and then torture them to name Kejriwal or Sisodia. That is their probe,” he said.

Kejriwal alleged that the CBI and the ED “lied” in court that Sisodia destroyed 14 mobile phones to hide evidence.

“The seizure memo of ED shows that it has four of the 14 phones, while one was with the CBI. Our own investigation has revealed that the remaining nine phones (numbers) were active and being used by persons like AAP volunteers,” he claimed.

Later in a tweet, Kejriwal said, “We will file appropriate cases against the CBI and the ED officials for perjury and producing false evidence in courts.”

Kejriwal further said it has been alleged that a bribe of Rs 100 crore was taken, but asked where was the money.

“More than 400 raids were conducted…where is the money? It was said that the money was used in the Goa elections. They questioned every Goa vendor whom we had employed, but could not find anything,” he asserted.

Every transaction in question had taken place through cheques and was duly reported to the Election Commission, he said.

“When no bribe has been taken, there is no way on earth for these agencies to find any money trail,” the CM said.

He questioned the agencies for not coming out with any evidence in support of their charges.

“If I say I gave Rs 1,000 crores to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 at 7 pm, will the ED-CBI arrest him? There has to have some evidence.,” Kejriwal said.

He cited the names of several persons under the net in the excise case and alleged third-degree treatment of them.

“One Chandan Reddy was beaten so badly that his eardrums burst. A witness was pressured to sign a fabricated statement by threatening to jail his father and wife. Some others were coerced into giving false statements that they later withdrew in the courts,” he claimed.

The lawyer of one of the witnesses has gone on record in court to highlight how his client was being “harassed” to “implicate Delhi politicians”, said the AAP convener.

Kejriwal said the whole issue is that all the parties are busy with loot and people now have hope from the AAP.

If they also started building schools and hospitals where will be the money for them to loot, he added.

  • Conviction of corrupt more during UPA regime: Kapil Sibal

Conviction of corrupt more during UPA regime: Kapil Sibal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked CBI not to spare the corrupt, independent MP Kapil Sibal on Tuesday questioned the conviction rate in the current government which was only 71 in 2016.

“PM to CBI : Don’t spare the corrupt,

March 2016 : Jitender Singh told Parliament “

    MS Education Academy

    But the fact is 2013 : 1136 persons convicted for corruption, 2014 : 993,

    2015 : 878, 2016 : 71

“Conviction of the corrupt higher during UPA! Men may lie but facts do not lie

Who is protecting the corrupt?” Sibal tweeted.

On Monday, the Prime Minister attacked the previous dispensations for their apparent lax attitude towards dealing with corruption and said that it was only after 2014, when the BJP-led dispensation came to power, that the malaise was dealt with severely.

Addressing a gathering while inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Modi said that unfortunately India got a legacy of corruption at the time of Independence and lamented the fact that instead of removing it, “some people kept nourishing this malady”.

He recalled the “scams and the prevailing sense of impunity just a decade ago, when the UPA dispensation was in power”.

“This situation led to the destruction of the system and an atmosphere of policy paralysis brought the development to stand still,” he said.

After 2014, the Prime Minister reiterated that the priority of the government was to instill faith in the system and for this, the government started taking action against black money and benami property in mission mode and started inflicting damage on the corrupt as well as the reasons behind the corruption.

  • CBI brand of truth, officers should act against corrupt, however powerful, without hesitation: PM

CBI brand of truth, officers should act against corrupt, however powerful, without hesitation: PM

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: There is today no dearth of political will to act against corruption and officers should take action against the corrupt, however powerful, without any hesitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.

Addressing a gathering at the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the prime minister said the agency has developed as a brand of “truth and justice” over the last 60 years. Terming corruption the biggest roadblock to democracy and justice, he said the agency’s key responsibility is to free India from it.

Stressing that the CBI should not be distracted by those trying to tarnish its image, Modi said a developed India is not possible without professional and efficient institutions and this puts a huge responsibility on the agency.

    MS Education Academy

The CBI’s chief responsibility, he said, is to rid the country of corruption.

Corruption is not an ordinary crime, it snatches the rights of the poor, it begets many other crimes, corruption is the biggest obstacle in the path of justice and democracy, he said.

He asked the CBI to devise ways to fast-track its investigations against the corrupt because a languishing probe gives a sense of safety to the corrupt while innocent people keep suffering.

Those who benefitted from corruption for decades have created an ecosystem that attacks probe agencies. But the agencies should not be deterred by stories about the power of the corrupt and their ecosystem to tarnish them, Modi said.

“I am aware that the people you are acting against are very powerful…. These people will keep distracting you, but you have to focus on your work. No corrupt person should be spared. There should be no laxity in our efforts. This is the wish of the country, this is the wish of the people of the country. The country, law and constitution are with you,” the prime minister said.

“Today there is no dearth of political will to take action against corruption in the country. You should not hesitate to take action (against the corrupt, however powerful)…,” he told the gathering of CBI officers and personnel.

The CBI was established by a resolution of the Ministry of Home Affairs on April 1, 1963.

Referring to international transactions and the movement of people, goods and services on a large scale, even outside geographical boundaries, Modi said India’s economic power is growing while those who create obstacles are also rising.

He warned that attacks on India’s social fabric, its unity and brotherhood, and its economic interests and institutions would also increase.

“Corruption money will be spent on this,” the prime minister said, stressing the need to understand and study the multinational nature of crime and corruption.

Modi said India got a legacy of corruption at the time of Independence and lamented the fact that some people kept nourishing this malady instead of removing it.

While a discussion on trillion dollars refers to a strong economy these days, a decade ago, when the CBI celebrated its golden jubilee, such figures were used to describe scams in the country, he said.

“There was a competition underway on who will set a new record of corruption,” he said. The scams and the prevailing sense of impunity led to the destruction of the system, and an atmosphere of policy paralysis brought development to a standstill.

He said Internet banking and UPI stand in stark contrast to the earlier “phone banking” malaise, where loans worth thousands of crores of rupees were sanctioned on the basis of phone calls from influential people.

The beneficiaries scooted away with the public money, the prime minister said. He said the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act has so far enabled the confiscation of Rs 20,000 crore worth of properties of fugitive offenders.

Modi said the corrupt would even go to the extent of looting the aid given to beneficiaries of government schemes, be it rations, homes, scholarships or pensions, and the original beneficiary would feel conned every time.

Modi said the beneficiaries of government schemes are now getting their full entitlement due to the trinity of Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and mobile, and more than eight crore fake beneficiaries have been removed from the system.

“Due to DBT (direct benefit transfer), about Rs 2.25 lakh crore has been saved from falling into wrong hands,” he said.

The prime minister said it was the resolve of his government after assuming office in 2014 to launch a crackdown on corruption and benami properties, and it started to act against these evils on mission mode.

The prime minister said even today when a case remains unsolved, there are demands for it to be handed over to the CBI.

The CBI has earned people’s faith through its work and techniques, he said.

“CBI’s name is on everyone’s lips. It is like a brand for truth and justice. Even at the panchayat level, if some major crime happens, people want it to be referred to the CBI,” he said.

Modi said wherever there is corruption, the youth don’t get equal opportunities, and just one special eco-system gets emboldened.

Terming corruption the biggest enemy of merit, he said corruption gives encouragement to nepotism and dynastic rule.

When nepotism and dynastic rule increase, the country’s strength gets affected, and when the country’s strength gets weakened, it hampers development, he said.

The prime minister conferred medals on the recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Gold Medal for Best Investigating Officers of the CBI during the programme.

He also virtually inaugurated the newly constructed office complexes of CBI in Shillong, Pune and Nagpur, released a postage stamp and commemorative coin, and launched the Twitter handle of the agency.

Among those present were Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal.

In his welcome address, Jaiswal said the CBI has evolved from an agency combating corruption to a multidisciplinary investigative and prosecuting organisation of international repute.

“No wonder, the bureau enjoys the confidence of the judiciary as well as the common people and victims of crime who invariably demand its services to undo wrongs,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi is a morally corrupt politician: Himanta Biswa Sarma

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is a “morally corrupt politician”, recalling his 2013 opposition to an amendment of a bill that would have allowed a convicted MP to remain a parliamentarian.

Sarma said the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had tried to bring the amendment, but Gandhi “denounced him publicly” and “tore” a copy of the ordinance.

“And now, Congress President Mallikarjun Khagde is demanding that convicted MP’s should not be disqualified,” he said.

“Rather than growing a spine, he is misguiding Kharge to protest against his own stand, which he had taken in 2013. I have not seen a politician in this country so morally corrupt like Rahul Gandhi,” Sarma told reporters on the sidelines of a programme here.

Gandhi should tell people of the country he stands for the cause that a convicted MP/MLA should be disqualified immediately, the chief miniser said.

The former Congress president was recently convicted by a Surat court in a defamation case and subsequently disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP.

Jairam Ramesh seeks CBI probe into Amit Shah’s ‘Sangma govt most corrupt’ remark

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to summon Home Minister Amit Shah over his remark describing Meghalaya government headed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, in its previous term, as “most corrupt” and to investigate the claim.

Attaching his letter to CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, he tweeted: “I have written to the Director of CBI asking CBI to question the Home Minister further on his categorical assertion that Conrad Sangma’s Govt in Meghalaya was the most corrupt in the country

“That of course did not prevent BJP from supporting the same Conrad Sangma again”.

Ramesh, in his letter to Jaiswal, said that Shah had said in his public speech on February 17 that the then Meghlaya government headed by Sangma was the most corrupt government in the country.

“Amit Shah is also the Home Minister of India. In his capacity as the Home Minister, he would surely have had access to information and facts that led him to the above conclusion. For some inexplicable reasons, the Home Minister, who is also the former national President of Bharatiya Janata Party, has failed to act upon the information regarding the corrupt practices and instances of the then Meghalaya government,” he said.

Ramesh requested the CBI Director to summon Shah and ask him to submit all the information and facts that led him to state assessment and investigate the matter.

“We also urge you to investigate if the Home Minister of India was under any undue duress from his party or other forces, to suppress the information related to the corruption of Meghalaya, in order to enable his party Bharatiya Janata Party to support the same Chief Minister after the recent Meghalaya elections,” the letter said.

The Congress letter also attached media reports on Shah’s remarks during the campaigning for Meghalaya Assembly polls, held on February 27.

The Congress leaders in Meghalaya have been criticising the BJP for supporting a government led by National People’s Party chief Sangma even after terming the previous government led by the same party as the “most corrupt”.

The Congress also termed the NPP led coalition formed for the second consecutive term as a “marriage of convenience”.

The BJP with two MLAs is a part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government dominated by the NPP, which secured 26 seats in the 60-member Assembly. Various other local parties are supporting the MDA government.

BJP says CBI acting lawfully against corrupt, demands Kejriwal’s resignation

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP on Monday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party over its street protests against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest, asserting that the CBI is acting lawfully against the “corrupt” and demanding CM Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation for the arrest of two of his ministers in cases of alleged corruption.

The law is taking its own course and probe agencies are working lawfully, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told reporters after Sisodia was sent to the CBI remand till March 4.

The “kattar beimaan party” (hardcore dishonest party) respects neither courts, nor laws or people, he claimed, accusing Kejriwal of orchestrating the anarchic protests against Sisodia’s arrest.

If the AAP believes that the CBI’s action is driven by political malice as it has alleged, then it should have gone to court as the probe in the suspected corruption in the framing of excise policy had been going on for months.

Neither does Kejriwal abide by law nor he sacks his ministers involved in corruption, he said, noting that Satyendar Jain is behind bars for months in a money laundering case.

Jain has not received bail yet because courts believe that the charges against him are serious, the BJP leader said.

Two of his six ministers are now behind bars in corruption case, he noted and said Kejriwal should take moral responsibility and tender his resignation immediately. After all the chief minister is the first among equals and leads the Cabinet, he said.

With its “drama” and show of “anarchy”, the AAP has signalled that it will not let probe agencies do their work which amounts to obstructing the process of justice and contempt of court, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told reporters after Sisodia was sent to the CBI remand till March 4 in the case of alleged irregularities and corruption in excise policy, now withdrawn.

The BJP leader described the AAP as “Arajak Apradh Party” (anarchic, criminal party) and said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seems to have taken oath on the Constitution to destroy it, he alleged, claiming that the “liquor scam” was perpetrated to fill his coffers.

A special CBI court on Monday remanded Sisodia in five-day custody of the central probe agency till March 4, a day after his arrest in the excise scam case.

Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers held protests in several states against the arrest in connection with alleged corruption in the now-scrapped excise policy relating to the sale of alcohol.

Bhatia said Sisodia’s alleged silence before his interrogators in the CBI custody speaks loudly that a scam has been perpetrated. They (AAP leaders) are in panick because the law’s long arms have caught hold of their corruption, he claimed.

New Delhi: The BJP on Monday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party over its street protests against Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s arrest, asserting that the CBI is acting lawfully against the “corrupt” but the city’s ruling party does not seem to believe in law, Constitution and people.

San Francisco: The payers of Rockstar Games’ popular multiplayer action-adventure game Grand Theft Auto (GTA) Online have reported losing game progress, stealing of in-game money and ban from game servers due to an alleged vulnerability in the PC version of the game.

According to BleepingComputer, the developer of the ‘North’ Grand Theft Auto V cheat exploited a new “remote code execution” vulnerability in the PC game client to remotely change player account attributes (such as zero their money balance), corrupt accounts, and even ban players from the game.

Originally released in October 2013, GTA Online is a multiplayer version of Rockstar Games’ popular action-adventure game series, with updates added to it for free.

The North GTA Online cheat developer added these new features on January 20, as part of its 2.0.0 release, according to the report.

However, on January 21, the developer removed these abusive features, apologising for the mayhem they had caused.

“Removed bad sport/corrupt account for players (bad judgement on my part for adding this public),” read a changelog for the North cheat.

“Removed take money from player (bad judgement on my part for adding this public),” it added.

The reversal, however, came too late, as many gamers had already been affected.

The Rockstar Games support forum has been inundated with user reports of account issues since the cheat’s release, the report mentioned.
