  • Political leaders meet people from corporate sector: Raut on Pawar-Adani meeting

Political leaders meet people from corporate sector: Raut on Pawar-Adani meeting

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday played down NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s meeting with industrialist Gautam Adani, saying that political leaders do meet people from the corporate sector.

The Adani Group chairman met the Nationalist Congress Party chief a day before.

“Sharad Pawar or for that matter every big political leader meets people from the corporate sector,” Raut said in response to a question by reporters here.

    MS Education Academy

The meeting assumed some significance as earlier this month Pawar had said the Supreme Court-appointed panel will be more useful than a Joint Parliamentary Commitee for looking into US-based Hindenburg Research’s allegations against the Adani group.

The NCP chief, thus, appeared to be breaking ranks with opposition leaders who have been demanding a JPC on the Adani issue.

Later Pawar said he will not oppose the demand for a JPC.

Raut, incidentally, also met Pawar after the latter’s meeting with Adani.

“We keep meeting, and Pawar is a key leader of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (the alliance of Sena (UBT), NCP and Congress). What is surprising if we or Congress leaders meet Pawar. We had a discussion on many issues in the country and state,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

UAE announces corporate tax registration exemptions

    [ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that certain businesses are exempt from registering for corporate tax that will be introduced in June this year, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The Ministry of Finance has issued Ministerial Decision No. 43 of 2023 on the exception from tax registration on Monday, April 9.

Here are the UAE corporate tax registration exemptions.

Those exempt include government entities, government-controlled entities, extractive companies, and non-extractive natural resource companies that meet the necessary requirements under the corporate tax law.

In addition, non-residents who earn income from UAE sources only and do not have a permanent establishment in the UAE are exempt from registering for corporate tax.

Other exemptions are available for organizations such as pension or investment funds and public benefit organizations.

The decision is in line with international best practices, as people are exempted from corporate tax such as the federal government, government departments and agencies in the UAE, public institutions and other categories.

As long as these entities continue to meet the exemption conditions specified in the relevant articles of the Decree-Law, there is no need to register with the Federal Tax Authority.

  • Frequent amendment of corporate laws is to make them more robust: Sitharaman

Frequent amendment of corporate laws is to make them more robust: Sitharaman

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the Central government does not have any hesitation in frequently approaching the Parliament to amend corporate laws as it was to fine-tune them and to make these laws more robust, adding the process aims at making the laws cater to the challenges as well as the ever-changing requirements of the industry.

Sitharaman said this while speaking here after inaugurating the renovated premises of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

She said that Opposition members used to question the rationale behind approaching the Parliament frequently but “the government was able to convince them about the need for such frequent amendments to corporate laws”.

The Finance Minister also said that the government had taken serious note of the resentment among certain quarters about filling up vacancies in National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and in National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and added that a lot of appointments were taking place now.

She said that the goal was to make the country more transparent in its commercial activities and to gain investors’ confidence in full. The minister said that the government was unwavering in its commitment towards achieving this.

NCLAT Chairman Ashok Bhushan said that India was now 62 in the world as far as ease of doing business was concerned and this growth was from the 142 position it had in 2015.

He said that the timely and effective disposal of commercial cases by the tribunals had helped all the stakeholders.

The NCLAT chairman also requested the minister to appoint one more judicial and technical member to the Chennai bench of the Appellate body.

NCLAT judicial member M. Venugopal said that the Chennai bench of the NCLAT had disposed of 562 of the 1,480 appeals that were filed since its inception on January 25, 2021.

Indian concept of `Seva’ is older than Corporate Social Responsibility: Bhagwat

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said the concept of “Seva” or service in Indian culture is much older than the idea of Corporate Social Responsibility.

He was speaking after the inauguration of Seva Bhavan, an institute set up to offer health services at subsidised rates by an organization affiliated to the RSS.

“What we call `Seva’ (service) is deeply rooted in our society, compared to the recent concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Our outlook towards Seva is that we do not expect anything in return for it,” Bhagwat said.

“Seva is sometimes defined as service, but there (in case of service) you expect something in return. In our tradition of Seva, people not only face appreciation but (sometimes face) criticism and opposition as well,” he said.

Bhagwat also said that Dharma' as per Indian tradition is not rituals but duty. "The duty of humans isSeva’,” he added.
