  • For Tourism Sake, Himachal Is Copying Kashmir’s Houseboats, Shikaras

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The government of Himachal Pradesh is readying to introduce water body tourism in the state on the analogy of Kashmir’s Dal Lake.

The HP government is contemplating to introduce shikaras, houseboats and cruise boats under a new scheme of tourism department, in its major water bodies which are mainly the reservoirs of the hydropower projects, besides promoting the water sports, Hindustan Times reported.

The proposal to introduce the shikaras and houseboats at the Maharana Pratap Sagar (Pong Dam) in Kangra district on the lines of Dal Lake is expected to become a major hit in tourism sector in North India, HT reported.

It reported that the Himachal Pradesh government has approached the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to allow setting up tourism infrastructure along the water bodies.

The NTPC operates 300-megawatt Kol Dam Hydroproject while the BBMB operates Bhakra Power Project and Pong Dam project.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had recently asked the officers to prepare a new policy to promote Chamera, Pong, Bhakra and Koldam from a tourism point of view.

Notably, tourism constitutes seven percent of Himachal’s GDP and 14.42 percent of direct and indirect employment to the total employment in the state.

To develop new tourist destinations, the state government had implemented a new scheme “Nai Rahein Nai Manzilein” in the year 2018-19 to develop the unexplored areas of the state from tourism point of view.

The government is further mulling to develop infrastructure for promoting water sports activities and other tourism related activities along these water bodies in the state.

Inter first-year exam: Seven cases of copying reported in Telangana

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) conducted first-year examinations of Mathematics paper IB, Zoology Paper I, and History Paper I on Thursday. Out of 409587 candidates registered for all three exams, 393854 appeared. As many as 15,733 candidate makers were absent, which is 3.8 percent.

A total of seven cases of copying were reported from Asifabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, and Mahbubnagar. Two cases were registered in Karimnagar, two in Asifabad, two in Mahbubnagar, and one in Nalgonda.

The Board of Intermediate observers visited Siddipet, Bhongir, Hanamkonda, Khammam, Vanparthy, Nagar Kurnool, and Hyderabad and inspected the examination center. According to the Secretary Board of Intermediate Education, the examinations were conducted peacefully in the state.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) will be issuing a fresh tender for the onscreen digital evaluation of the Intermediate examinations answer scripts.

The Intermediate Public Examination and Intermediate Public Advanced Supplementary Examination papers including the re-verification of answer scripts will now be evaluated digitally.

However, the move was recently opposed by the Student Federation of India (SFI) and teachers’ organisations in the state, saying that nobody was informed about the decision and the evaluators had not been trained to evaluate the answer sheets of over 25 lakh students.

The new declaration came in February after the board received participation from only one company in the tender issued earlier.

The last date for submission of the tender issued by the TSBIE earlier in January through e-procurement was February 13.

The onscreen digital evaluation system involves scanning and uploading answer sheets of the students on a software platform where lecturers can evaluate by reading on a computer screen and award marks digitally.
