Iran hangs two over burning copy of Quran, insulting Prophet

Tehran: Two men were executed by the Iranian authorities on Monday on charges of blasphemy against Islam.
According to Mizan News Agency, Yousef Mehrad and Sadrollah Fazeli Zare were hanged for insulting the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH), burning a copy of the Quran and promoting atheism.

What do we know about the charges so far?
As per Iranian media reports, Yousef Mehrad and Sadrollah Fazeli Zare were arrested in May 2020 for running several anti-religious online platforms.

In March 2021 one of the defendants had confessed to posting the content. Such confessions are believed to have been coerced, according to rights groups based outside of Iran.
Monday’s executions were the latest in a series of executions in the past two weeks for a range of crimes.
Amnesty International said that Iran executes more people annually than any other country in the world except China.
So far this year, at least 203 prisoners have been executed in the country, according to the non-profit Iranian Human Rights Organization.
Two rights groups said in a report last month that Iranian authorities executed 582 individuals last year, a 75 per cent increase from 2021.

Video: Sharmila offers to gift Constitution copy to Telangana CM

Hyderabad: YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president YS Sharmila on Friday offered to gift a copy of the Constitution to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to advise him to read it and govern the state accordingly.
While paying tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Tank Bund on his birth anniversary, she lashed out at the Chief Minister for “insulting” the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb.
She slammed KCR for his utter “disregard in keeping promises” made to Dalits. She wanted to proceed to the Chief Minister’s official residence to gift him a copy of the Constitution but was stopped by the police.

“On this occasion, YSRTP is happy to gift Indian Constitution to KCR. We hope it opens his eyes and compels him to respect and implement the Constitution,” said Sharmila.

Sharmila alleged that KCR time and again insulted Babasaheb and the Constitution with his words and deeds.
“In Telangana, KCR’s constitution reigns supreme, where there is no freedom of speech and right to protest. KCR’s constitution is all about corruption, nepotism, and fake promises. From Dalit Chief Minister to Dalit Bandhu, Dalits have been cheated and neglected,” she said.
“The government has failed to keep three-acre land promise, loans and employment promises, empower SC Corporation, while atrocities and attacks on Dalits go unchecked in the state,” she claimed.

Srinagar, Mar 29 : Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has ordered change in school timings for Kashmir province from April 1.
According to an order issued by DSEK, the new timings for the government and the recognized private schools falling outside Srinagar Municipal limits will be from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.
“The order/instructions shall be adhered to strictly by all the concerned institutions,” the order reads, adding, “Any deviation in this regard shall be viewed seriously.”
There is no mention about timings for schools located within the Srinagar Municipal Limits and it appears that it shall remain from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. (GNS)

Extremists burn copy of Quran, Turkish flag in Denmark

Supporters of an extremist Danish group burned a copy of the holy Quran and Turkish flag, in the Danish capital, Denmark amid strong condemnation by Ankara and Gulf countries.
The extremist group called “Patrioterne Gar Live” burned the Turkish flag and a copy of the holy Quran in front of Turkish Embassy in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, on Friday.
The attack was broadcast live on the group’s Facebook account.
During the attack, the extremists raised anti-Islamic banners and chanted slogans insulting the religion.
Turkish Foreign Ministry condemns “despicable attack” on the holy Quran and Turkish flag
On Saturday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned in the strongest terms the “despicable attack” on the Holy Quran and the Turkish flag.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the despicable attack on our holy book, the Holy Qur’an, and our glorious flag in Denmark,” the ministry said in a statement.
The statement stressed that “allowing such practices under the name of freedom of expression is categorically rejected.”
Gulf countries condemn burning the copy of holy Quran
Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Kuwait condemned the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, and considered it a “heinous and provocative act.”

In late January, the leader of the far-right “hard-line” party, Rasmus Paludan, burned a copy of the holy Quran in front of a mosque belonging to the Islamic Community Association in the Dorthefig neighbourhood of the Danish capital, Copenhagen, after the end of Friday prayers, and tried to provoke the worshipers in the mosque.
Paludan also burned a copy of the holy Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Copenhagen, under police protection, shortly after it was burned in front of the mosque.

Musk calls Meta ‘copy cat’ for planning to launch Twitter-rival

San Francisco: Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Sunday mocked Meta for planning to launch a dedicated Twitter-like social media application and called it “copy cat”.
It all started when the music news website Daily Loud posted: “Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta exploring plans to launch a rival to Twitter.”
On this, a user asked: “Why tho? is he like people are mad at Elon musk, I’ll make an alternative because everyone loves me and Facebook so much.”
Commenting on this conversation, Musk said: “Copy cat.”
Several users expressed their thoughts on Musk’s post.
While one user said: “I’m sure people will by dying to join another Meta platform plagued with ‘independent fact checkers’ suppressing conversations and content moderators taking down memes. Sounds fun!”
Another commented: “Facebook should start making rockets and electric cars as well since they so ‘good’ at what they do.”
Recently, it was reported that Meta is building a dedicated Twitter-like social media application for people to post text-based updates.

The product is still in its early stages, and no release date has been set, but legal and regulatory teams have already begun to investigate potential privacy concerns surrounding the app to address them before launch.
Several rival platforms have launched or gained traction in the months since Musk took over the micro-blogging platform – among them include Mastodon, Post.news, and T2.
Earlier this month, Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey came back into the social media game, with the launch of his Twitter alternative called ‘Bluesky’.

According to a government order issued here, that Pending enquiry into the conduct of M.Tarig Ahmad Ashai, Principal, GDC Pattan and Mr. Imtiyaz Gul Khan, Assistant Professor, GDC Pattan are deemed to have been suspended in terms of section 31 of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Clarification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956 from the date of their arrest i.e. 14-02-2023.

JKPSC amends recruitment Rules for Higher Education, H&ME, details with Kashmir News reads as:-
In substitution of its Rules 43, 44 and 45 (Business and Procedural) Rules, 2021, JKPSC has notified the amendments in pursuance of the provisions contained in sub section (1) of Section 93 of the J&K Re-organization Act 2019, read with Article 320(1) of the Constitution of India.
As per the new Rules in respect of selection criteria for the posts of Assistant Professor/Librarian/PTI in the Higher Education Department, there will be written examination of 70 points while maximum 12 points have been earmarked for interview, 11 points for academic merit and seven points for research & publication, awards, experience etc.
Weightage of academic merit will be on the basis on PhD (05 points), M Phil (02 points), Post Doctoral (01 point), SET/SLET (01 point), NET (02 points) and JRF (03 points).
Pertinent to mention that earlier, 15 points were earmarked for PhD, 06 points for M Phil and 08 points for NET-JRF while there was no written examination for the post.
