  • Telangana: CS calls for inter-departmental coordination to curtail drug menace

    Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, directed the law enforcement agencies to coordinate with the health, education, and other departments to evolve a multi-pronged strategy to curtail the drug menace.

    At a meeting held on Thursday, she said that the state has set up an anti-narcotics bureau with a vision to make Telangana a drug-free state and to combat the menace of drug trafficking comprehensively. She underlined the need for a coordinated effort of all the departments to evolve a proper line of action to reduce the usage of drugs in the best possible manner.

    “Monitoring of surface web and dark web is required. The focus should be on preventing the abuse of psychotropic substances and the diversion of precursor chemicals. There is a need to increase monitoring of pharma production units and chemical laboratories in city outskirts,” the Chief Secretary said following inputs provided by the departments concerned.

    She stressed the need for having a proper policy by the union government for the deportation of foreigners who are overstaying in the country. The health department informed us that de-addiction and rehabilitation centers are working in all district hospitals.

    Shanti Kumari directed the education department to set up anti-drug clubs in vulnerable colleges and take up awareness programs on the harmful effects of drugs.

    Narcotics Control Bureau zonal director Aravindan gave a brief overview of the drug scenario in the country. He informed the meeting that during the years 2021, 2022, and 2023 the NCB Hyderabad had busted clandestine laboratories involving the seizure of substantial quantities of Alprazolam. There have been instances where chemical experts have been hired for such illicit projects, Arvindan said.

    DGP Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of Police C V Anand, Rachakonda CP D S Chowhan, Principal Secretary Home Jitender, Principal Secretary Revenue Navin Mittal, Secretary Health Rizvi, Secretary School Education Karuna, Secretary SCD Rahul Bojja and other officials attended the meeting.

    KULGAM, MAY 06: Ahead of G-20 engagements scheduled this month, a high level meeting of civil and police officers was today held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal-Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat and SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal at Mini-Secretariat, Kulgam.

    The meeting was attended by ADDC Showkat Ahmad Rather, ADC Viqar Ahmed, A-SP Shabir Ahmad, ACR, ACD, SDPOs and all district and sectoral officers.

    During the meeting, the DC took an elaborate review of security arrangements.

    After threadbare discussion, directions were passed to civil and police officers with regard to measures and requisite steps which are to be taken by them in view of the scheduled G-20 meeting.

    All the officers were strictly directed to follow the instructions and directions, without any fail and decipher highest level of professional conduct.

    SHOPIAN, FEBRUARY 14: The Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC) Shopian, Yar Ali Khan today chaired a district level Coordination Committee meeting at Mini Secretariat, here to review the action taken till date towards the furtherance of Tobacco free society and to discuss and approve the future plan of action against the implementation of COTPA Act, 2003.

    At the outset, CMO Shopian, Dr Arshid presented an overview of the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), while an expert from DHSK presented discussion on the agenda points.

    On the occasion, directions were given for making all government institutions/ private premises ‘Tobacco Free Zones’ and all educational institutions as ‘Tobacco Free Educational institutions ‘ as per the guidelines.

    ADC also directed for displaying mandatory prominent signages across the district, at public places, institutions, etc denouncing use of Tobacco products. Directions were also passed to all stakeholders for taking strict action against retailers promoting Tobacco use through surrogate advertising.

    Emphasis was given on conducting intensive IEC activities across the district for dissemination of information on the adverse impacts of tobacco use. Capacity building of stakeholders was asked to be stressed for implementation along with increasing challans against the violations of the Act.

    Besides, feasibility of vendor licensing was also discussed in the meeting.

    ASP, Ifroz Ahmad; CMO, Dr.Arshid; CEO Mohd Mushtaq; DIO, STO, EO MC, ADP and other concerned attended the meeting besides a team of specialists from DHSK.

    Ramallah: The Palestinian Authority has announced the end of security coordination with Israel in response to the killing of nine Palestinians in the West Bank city of Jenin.

    “In the light of the repeated aggression against our people and the undermining of signed agreements, we consider that security coordination with the Israeli occupation government no longer exists as of now,” spokesman of the Palestinian presidency Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a press statement on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.

    Earlier in the day, Israeli soldiers killed at least nine Palestinians, including an elderly woman, and injured 20 others, four of whom are in critical condition, in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
