Unauthorised construction on land reserved for playground demolished in Sangli

Representative Image Sangli : An illegal structure on a plot reserved for playground and school in Kupwad area was demolished by the Sangli Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray had raised the issue of this encroachment at his rally in Mumbai a day before.
The plot of land, located in Mangalmurti Colony, was being used to offer ‘namaz’ and illegal washrooms were constructed there, said a civic official.
A meeting was held with the concerned trust and later the structure was removed, she added.

Construction of Ayodhya Ram temple likely to be completed months before deadline: Officials (Photo: Twitter) Ayodhya: The construction of the Ram temple here is likely to be completed months before the deadline, an office bearer of the Sriram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said on Friday.
“We are confident that the temple will be completed three months before the due date. So we have advanced the deadline from December 2023 to September 2023. Now, the temple will get it’s final shape in September,” in-charge of trust’s office at Ram Janambhoomi Prakash Gupta said.
“The sanctum sanctorum of the temple of Lord Rama will be octagonal and the temple is now taking shape. About 75 per cent of the work of the first phase of the temple has been completed. Now, only 167 pillars are left to be installed in the temple. The construction of the roof will also start by May-June,” he said.
The new pictures of temple which were made public by the trust on Friday show that all the pillars in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple have been erected. Twenty-four of the 32 stairs to reach the sanctum sanctorum have been built
Trust member Dr Anil Mishra said, “The construction work of the temple is progressing ahead of schedule. Soon the work of laying the beams of the sanctum sanctorum will begin.”
“The work of carving about 200 beams of the roof of the Ram temple has been done,” he said. PTI COR CDN

Telangana HC bars Chiranjeevi from construction on disputed land

Chiranjeevi (Instagram) Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday barred Telugu superstar K. Chiranjeevi from any construction activity on a piece of land in Jubilee Hills Housing Society here.
In an interim order, the High Court directed the status quo on the disputed land.
The court took up a hearing on a petition filed by J. Srikant Babu and others alleging that 595 square yards of land meant for public purposes was sold to Chiranjeevi by Jubilee Hills Society.
The petitioner argued that since the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) did not take control of the land, the society sold the land to the megastar in violation of the rules. The court was also informed that the actor took up construction activity on the land.
After hearing the arguments, the court directed the GHMC and Jubilee Hills Housing Society to file counter affidavits. It adjourned the hearing to April 25.

Hyderabad: Construction worker stabbed to death

(Representative Image) Hyderabad: A construction worker was stabbed to death at Wadi e Omer Pahadishareef on Wednesday at midnight by some persons.
The deceased Pavan lived at Wadi e Omer and is a native of Amangal Nagarkurnool district.
On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday around 12.30 a.m., the man came out of his house to attend nature’s call when two people came and attacked him, Ch. Srinivas DCP Maheshwaram told media persons.
Soon after killing Pavan, both of them fled away.
Pavan who sustained serious wounds was rushed to the hospital. He died while undergoing treatment.
The police registered a case under Section 302 of IPC and the investigation going on.
The clues team came to the spot. Three teams formed to arrest the killers, said DCP.

Highway construction firm to pay Rs 55 cr for environmental damage

Mumbai: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered a highway construction company to pay Rs 55.47 crore for causing environmental damage by illegally excavating stone, sand and murram for its projects in the Nashik and Hingoli districts of Maharashtra.
In two separate orders on February 22, NGT’s western zone bench in Pune directed Rajendrasinh Bhamboo Infra Private Limited to pay Rs 36.35 crore and Rs 19.12 crore to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board within a month. The detailed orders were made available recently.
“We find that since the activity of mining has been conducted by the project proponent (Rajendrasinh Bhamboo Infra) without taking prior environmental clearance, the same is treated to be a violation which impacts the environment adversely,” said the green tribunal in one of its orders.
One Dattatraya Phalke had filed pleas with the tribunal saying that the company be blacklisted for having repeatedly “violated environmental norms for its commercial benefits”.
The tribunal had earlier punished the company by imposing “environmental compensation” but it continues to violate the environmental norms, said petitioner Phalke.
As per the pleas, the firm deliberately did not obtain “prior environmental clearance for its project at Kalamnuri in Hingoli and has illegally excavated more than 4,50,000 brass of stones, murom and sand”.
For its project at Nandgaon in Nashik district, the company has carried out illegal mining of 25,000 brass of similar construction materials, the plea added.

Ayodhya Mosque construction to begin after Ramzan

Ayodhya: The construction of a mosque in Ayodhya is likely to start after the holy month of Ramzan.
The Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has given clearance to the mosque complex layout in Dhannipur village in a recent board meeting.
Nitish Kumar, district magistrate and chairman of ADA, Ayodhya, said, “All pending clearances to Ayodhya’s mosque cum complex project have been cleared in the recent board meeting. The sanctioned layout of the mosque will be handed over to the Sunni Central Waqf Board (SCWB) in the next couple of days after completing a few formalities.”
The SCWB called the development a big move and said it will call a meeting, probably after Ramzan, in this context.
Athar Hussain, secretary Indo Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) – the trust formed by SCWB to look after the construction in Dhannipur-said, “We will convene a meeting after Ramzan where we will finalise the plan to start construction. In the same meeting, we will also chalk out the final date to begin construction of the mosque complex.”
The holy month of Ramzan is likely to start on March 22 and conclude on April 21.
On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench permitted the construction of a temple in Ayodhya at the site where the 16th Century Babri Masjid once stood and was brought down by ‘Kar Sevaks’.
The apex court, in the same judgment, had also asked the government to allot a “prominent and suitable” five-acre plot in Ayodhya for the construction of a mosque in lieu of the Babri Masjid.
While the board’s clearance has paved the way for the construction of the mosque, the SCWB has maintained that it did not want to associate the upcoming mosque with the disputed 16th Century structure that was brought down on December 6, 1992.
Hence, they said, it would not be named after any Mughal emperor.
Athar Hussain said the mosque cum complex will be named after freedom fighter and revolutionary Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah Faizabadi. It will include a mosque, hospital, community kitchen, and museum among others.
“The maximum area would be allocated to the hospital. We plan to develop a multi-specialty hospital that would be equipped with state-of-art facilities. The entire hospital will be established in two phases. In the first phase, arrangement for 100 beds would be made while in the second phase, 100 more beds will be added. The hospital will offer the best treatment in cancer care, transplants, spine, heart, robotics, orthopaedics, emergency and others,” he added.
Professor S.M. Akhtar, a Lucknow-based architect-cum-town planner and founder dean, faculty of architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi, has been appointed by the trust to design the mosque.
Besides, the trust has also appointed renowned historian, international relations expert and chronicler of Indian cuisine Professor Pushpesh Pant as consultant curator of its archival museum that would be a part of the mosque complex.
The specialty hospital, community kitchen and a museum will be housed in a multi-storey vertical structure. These will be metres away from the mosque and a century-old Sufi shrine will be in between.
The mosque, meanwhile, will be spherical in shape with a capacity to accommodate 2,000 ‘namazis’ or worshippers at a time.
It will be four-times bigger than the Babri Masjid.
The hospital complex will be six-times the size of the mosque. The mosque will be built on 3,500 square metres of land while the hospital and other facilities will straddle an area of 24,150 square metres.
The building will be zero-energy to convey a message on climate change. All power demands in the mosque will be met with the help of solar panels and there will be no electricity connection.
A green patch will be developed and saplings will be procured from all over the world, including Amazon rainforest, places where the bushfire took place in Australia and other geographical locations in India.
There is no detailed plan yet to collect contributions for the project. Two separate bank accounts have been created to collect money for the construction – the first for the mosque and the second for other structures.

Amazon halts construction of 2nd headquarters in US to cut costs

San Francisco: As it cuts costs across the verticals amid the ongoing economic meltdown, Amazon has now halted construction of its second headquarters in the US.
Called ‘HQ2’, the second headquarters of the ecommerce company is being built in the state of Virginia (its first HQ is in Seattle, Washington State).
John Schoettler, Amazon’s real estate head, said in a statement the company is pushing out the groundbreaking of PenPlace, the second phase of the sprawling northern Virginia campus, reports CNBC.
“We’re always evaluating space plans to make sure they fit our business needs and to create a great experience for employees, and since Met Park will have space to accommodate more than 14,000 employees, we’ve decided to shift the groundbreaking of PenPlace (the second phase of HQ2) out a bit,” Schoettler said.
The first phase of the campus is expected to open on time in June this year, that will house 8,000 employees.
In 2019, the ecommerce giant had announced to halt plans to build its new headquarters in New York after it faced pushback from local activists and city council leaders.
Amazon recently laid off 18,000 employees among its corporate workforce, after cutting a number of employees in November last year.
“In the short term, we face an uncertain economy, but we remain quite optimistic about the long-term opportunities for Amazon,” according to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy.
“We’re working really hard to streamline our costs and trying to do so at the same time so that we don’t give up on the long-term strategic investments that we believe can meaningfully change broad customer experiences and change Amazon over the long-term,” Jassy said on the analysts’ call last month.
