TS EMCET from tomorrow; Inter marks won’t be considered for ranking

Hyderabad: Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) is all set to begin on Wednesday. However, this year the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) announced that intermediate marks won’t be taken into consideration while ranking.

During the pandemic, the TSCHE had not considered intermediate marks for deciding the final rank of the EAMCET examination.

However, this change was made without prior notice. Starting in 2023, the Intermediate Public Examination (IPE) weightage is believed to be permanently waived off for all applicants appearing for EAMCET.

Those who clear the exam will be eligible for admission into first-year undergraduate professional courses, including BE, BTech, BPharmacy, BSc, BVSc, and PharmD, offered by colleges in the state.

The convener of TS EAMCET, Dr B Dean Kumar on Monday asserted that students appearing for the EAMCET exam must strictly adhere to the instructions given on the hall ticket.

Students have been especially cautioned to reach the exam centres on time. The convenor said that those coming late or changing slots will not be permitted to write the exam.

The TS-EAMCET-2023 is scheduled to be held from May 10 to 14 in two sessions, between 9 am and 12 noon (morning session) and 3 pm and 6 pm (afternoon session).

The exam convener has requested all the local authorities including superintendents of police, commissioners of police, electricity board, and TSRTC for their cooperation in providing arrangements for the smooth conduct of the examination in 104 centres in Telangana.

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) will be the centre of the exam in Hyderabad. Candidates can download the hall tickets at the website.

Property tax in J&k; Genuine suggestions would be considered: LG Manoj Sinha

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, Mar 29: Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that genuine suggestions of the public on imposition of property tax in Jammu & Kashmir would be considered.

Addressing a news conference in Jammu, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Sinha said that suggestions submitted by the people would be analysed and those found genuine would be considered.

The LG said that Jammu & Kashmir was the last state/UT to impose property tax and the rates in the UT are much lower than the rates applicable in cities of neighbouring States. “If we compare the rates with Shimla, Chandigarh and Dehradun, these are less than 1/10th of the rates applicable in these cities,” he said, adding that 40 percent people living in urban areas of J&K are exempted from paying property taxes.

“There are 520000 houses in urban areas of Jammu & Kashmir. Out of them, 206000 are exempted from property tax,” he said.

He said that 203600 houses would have to pay a maximum Rs 1000 per annum as property tax in certain areas of Srinagar and Jammu. “If we look at other towns, they will have to pay Rs 600, Rs 500 per year,” he said.

It is worthwhile to mention that the J & K administration has sought feedback from the general public over imposition of property tax in the Union Territory—(KNO)

  • Comments on looks can’t be considered sexually coloured remarks: Delhi court

Comments on looks can’t be considered sexually coloured remarks: Delhi court

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A Delhi court has observed that mentioning the looks and gait of a person without any specific reference to the dress or any body part would not be counted as a sexually coloured remark.

Additional Sessions Judge Rajinder Singh of Patiala House Courts made this observation while dismissing a woman’s plea against discharge of a man under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Charges against two other men were framed under the same Section but they were discharged under Section 354A (sexual harassment).

The woman had alleged that the three men made offensive comments and certain remarks about her and also used to stare at her with an ‘evil eye’.

The court said that the alleged acts of the accused persons would not fall under Section 354A (1)(A) of the IPC while perusing the documents.

“The woman specifically mentioned that he was murmuring something but she did not stop there to hear,” the court said while discharging the accused under section 509 of the IPC.

The court also noted that there was no specific mention of any alleged words attributable to the man or no specific allegations that he made any sound or gesture or exhibiting any object intending it to be seen by the woman with the intention of insulting her modesty or intruding upon her privacy.
