Karnataka Congress to exhibit BBC’s Modi documentary

    [ad_1]

Mysuru: Karnataka Congress stated on Tuesday that it will screen the banned BBC documentary, ‘India: The Modi Question’ in the premises of its office in Mysuru city.

Speaking to reporters, KPCC Spokesperson M. Lakshman stated that “BBC has thrown light on the truth. BJP leaders themselves have been beating their chests that Modi had given directions to kill Muslims.”

“Like ‘Kashmir Files’, this documentary should be exhibited all over the country. I request people of the country to watch the documentary. One should watch the documentary and learn about the dark face of PM Modi,” he said.

BBC is an important British organisation, it will work without coming under the influence of anyone, Lakshman stated.

Training his guns on BJP MLA and former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, Lakshman further charged that Jarkiholi and his gang had shot an excise inspector Ingalage in 1988. “The inspector was shot with an AK-47 rifle,” he stated.

He further alleged that in 1994 also murders were carried out in the Government Mill of Gokak in the leadership of Ramesh Jarkiholi. He charged that people were supposed to take consent from the Jarkiholi family for purchase or sale of property worth more than Rs 35 lakh.

Lakshman stated that if the people sold properties without getting the consent, they would face atrocity and rape cases. They have filed such cases on 300 common men. Ramesh Jarkiholi used to sell hooch earlier, he alleged.

Lakshman had questioned Ramesh Jarkiholi about the purchase of a new Mercedes car worth Rs 4 crore 20 days ago and asked him how he can make the purchase being under loss? He also claimed that Ramesh Jarkiholi is building a new house at a cost of Rs 30 crore.

Jarkiholi had attacked Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, saying that when Shivakumar met him for the first time, he was in torn slippers and later went on to mint thousands of crores through corruption.

Lakshman challenged that let the investigation be conducted on the properties of Shivakumar and Ramesh Jarkiholi by any central agency.

  • Rahul Owed Apology To People For Congress’s Himalayan Blunders In J&K: Rana

Rahul Owed Apology To People For Congress’s Himalayan Blunders In J&K: Rana

    [ad_1]

SAMBA: Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana today blamed Rahul Gandhi for failing in apologizing to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for the Himalayan blunders committed by the Congress in this part of the country since 1947.

“Least to speaking about tendering apology, Rahul Gandhi took pride in being in the company of PAGD allies who have exploited Kashmiris, one way or the other, all these years,” Devender Rana told media at the side-lines of Yagya organized by Sant Sri Balak Yogeshwar Das Ji Maharaj.

Rana said that Rahul Gandhi also preferred to align with those who push for talks with Pakistan whenever the rogue neighbour perpetrated mayhem through her lackeys—be it in Dangri Rajouri or target killings of Kashmiri Pandits and the outsiders. He said the former Congress President also conveniently forgot the threats and warnings of the PAGD leaders that there will be nobody to hold Tiranga in Kashmir.

He must now thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a situation where, not only the people of Kashmir are carrying on economic activities and daily chores freely and fearlessly, but political leaders like him freely enjoying snow in the Valley.

The Senior BJP leader said the people do not know whether Rahul Gandhi has joined the nation together or not during his just concluded so-called yatra but they have certainly watched his brazen bonding with ‘Bharat Todo’ PAGD, which stands for Pakistan, anti-national, separatist, radicalised and secessionist elements.

“No wonder, the person, who embarked on the yatra to Kashmir to understand, as he says, the feelings of the people, must be returning back as ignorant as he has been, due to lack of his understanding”, he added.

Rana said that the peace and normalcy dawning in Kashmir is result of path breaking initiatives taken by the Prime Minister for holistic development of the Valley post abrogation of Article 370, which removed all obstacles in bonding of Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the country emotionally. Unfortunately, he said, Rahul Gandhi did not clear his stand on Article 370 even at the close of his yatra.

On a question about Rahul Gandhi hoisting tricolor in Lal Chowk, Rana said this is the changed Kashmir and changed scenario in the Congress as well. In this context, he recalled the statement of the Congress General Secretary in Jammu, observing that unfurling the national flag in Kashmir is RSS legacy and said that this tradition has now inspired their young leader to follow the Sangh footsteps. Better late than never, he observed and wished Rahul Gandhi to understand the Indian ethos in its totality. That will be true repentance of the Congress for the sins committed in independent India, he added.

On the Mahayagya, Devender Rana complimented Sant Sri Balak Yogeshwar Das Ji Maharaj as a tribute to martyrs, due to valour and sacrifices of whom the nation is breathing in democratic, sovereign nation. He said the Indian Armed Forces were the most disciplined and brave forces across the world, which are capable of defending the territorial integrity with valour.

Those accompanying Rana for participating in the Mahayagya included Surinder Choudhary, Mangu Shah, Surinder Singh Gill and others.

Watch: Rahul Says China Holds 2000 Sq Km in Ladakh, Asks Home Minister to Attempt Jammu to Kashmir Yatra

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Asking Home Minister Amit Shah to opt for a Jammu to Srinagar yatra if the security situation has improved in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the Chinese sitting on Indian land must be dealt with by the centre. He was speaking to the media in Srinagar after the conclusion of the 134-day-long yatra during which he addressed 15 news conferences.

Rahul said a Ladakhi delegation clearly said that 2000 square km of the Indian Territory was taken by the Chinese.

“Government is under the impression that the Chinese have not taken any land from India. I recently met some ex-army people and even a delegation from Ladakh has clearly said that 2,000 sq km of Indian territory has been taken over by the Chinese,” Rahul said. “They also said that many patrolling points that used to be in India are now firmly in Chinese hands.”

Terming it “extremely dangerous”, Rahul said: “The approach Government is following by completely denying that the Chinese have taken our land is dangerous and it will give them more confidence to do more aggressive things. We have to deal with the Chinese firmly and tell them they are sitting on our land, won’t be tolerated.”

Asked about the situation on the ground in Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi said he met people and is extremely unhappy.

“Target killing and bomb blasts are happening in Jammu and Kashmir and if the security situation has improved then the conversation the security personnel are having with me should not have been required,” Rahul said. “If the situation is so good why don’t the BJP people walk from Jammu to Lal Chowk? Why doesn’t Amit Shah walk from Jammu to Kashmir if the situation is so secure? I don’t think that argument holds.”

Congress has alleged a security lapse during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir. Earlier on Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that police arrangement “completely collapsed” during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir and he had “to cancel” his walk.

Responding to a volley of several questions about Jammu and Kashmir, Rahul said the restoration of statehood should be the first step.

“Statehood and restoration of the democratic process is a fundamental and very important first step. The other steps will come later and I do not necessarily have to comment on it here,” he said. “All states have an assembly. The democratic process is the right of the people and it should be restored in Jammu and Kashmir. A solution should be found for the people of Ladakh as well.”

In response to a question about the revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution in 2019, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress Working Committee has already made its stand clear on the issue. Notably, Article 370 granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was revoked by the Modi government on August 5, 2019.

Telangana Congress offers support to beedi workers in the state

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Former Minister and ex-leader of opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday assured the beedi workers that the Congress party would provide all required assistance to protect their livelihood, health and survival.

As part of the ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo’ Abhiyan, Shabbir Ali held an interactive session with beedi workers, thekedar and others related to the industry at Kamareddy District Congress Committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that nearly seven lakh workers were employed by 14 major Beedi industries in Telangana. However, the BJP government at the Centre and the BRS Govt in the State did nothing to eradicate poverty among beedi workers or address their health concerns.

Referring to a recent study done on the condition of beedi workers of Telangana, he said the workers were getting poor wages, facing exploitation by middlemen and they have no social security. He said lakhs of workers were forced to continue with the Beedi industry as they do not have any alternative means of livelihood.

Shabbir Ali said the workers, mainly women, were dependent on Beedi rolling for their livelihood. He said most of the beedi workers were suffering from serious health problems. However, he said they have no access to medical facilities. At least there is no ESI hospital for Beedi workers anywhere in the country, including Kamareddy.

The Congress leader slammed the BJP at the Centre for imposing 28 per cent GST on the Beedi industry. He said that the move was intended for crippling the entire industry although it employs lakhs of people. Further, he alleged that the Modi Govt was targeting the poor Beedi workers in the name of discouraging tobacco.

“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, had a detailed interaction with the Beedi workers to understand their problems. He had promised that the next Congress government will remove the GST from the Beedi industry.”

Shabbir Ali said that the Beedi workers work hard for nearly 19 hours hour every day to earn their livelihood. Despite so much hard work, due to rising inflation, most of them do not even get a proper meal every day.

The Congress leader said that the Central collects about Rs 100 crores annually from the Beedi industry in Telangana state in the form of cess. But there are no schemes to help the workers when they are in trouble. He demanded that the Center fix proper wages for the Beedi workers and provide PF cards to all workers attached to the Beedi industry. He said the Minimum Wages Act should be implemented and the wages of Beedi workers should be increased.

Mehbooba Flags the 75-Year Difference Between Tricolour Unfurling By Nehru and Rahul

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: A day after warmly greeting Rahul Gandhi while joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJO) along with her daughter and mother, Mehbooba Mufti wrote a series of tweets to show the net difference between Nehru’s tricolour hoisting and Rahul’s unfurling of the national flag. At the conclusion of the BJY, Rahul led a battery of Congress leaders to unfurl the tricolour in historic Lal Chowk amid unprecedented security measures.

Unlike the Nehru-presided event soon after accession, Mehbooba said Rahul’s unfurling of the national flag took place under “different circumstances” when Jammu and Kashmir has been turned into a military garrison.

“In 1948 when PM Nehru first unfurled tiranga in Kashmir amongst a sea of people, it was a momentous occasion marked by celebrations. People of J&K had successfully fought off invaders by pushing them back & thus began a new relationship with India based on mutual trust & respect,” Mehbooba wrote in a tweet.

“Nehru’s efforts ensured a Muslim majority J&K acceded to India. He assured Kashmiris & allayed concerns about preserving their identity not only in terms of religion but also culturally within India. This was achieved through constitutional safeguards guaranteed by Article 370,” she said in another tweet.

A November 1947 photograph showing Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister of Indian making his first important speech in Lal Chowk. During the course of his speech he said “India will never let down Kashmir and the Indian Army will fight on till the last raider is driven out”.

With this historic background, Mehbooba commented on the unfurling of the tricolour on January 29, 2023, by Rahul, a function she and other like-minded parties n Kashmir skipped.

“Today history stands witness as RG unfurled the same flag albeit under completely different circumstances at a time when J&K has been turned into a military garrison. Assurances given by Indian constitution have been demolished by BJP & is a complete betrayal,” she wrote. “Despite these facts, BJP claims to have resolved the Kashmir issue by the unconstitutional abrogation of Article 370. Not only have they failed to address the issue but also gifted 2000 sq km of our territory to China.”

When Pandit Nehru flew to Srinagar on November 20, 1947, he spoke to a gathering in Lal Chowk. Later, he was taken in a procession to various parts of the Srinagar city. In comparison, Rahul’s function was brief and small and was attended by his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. Nehru had unfurled the flag near the Palladium Cinema, a few notches ahead of the Ghanta Ghar, where the tricolour was unruled today.

  • Telangana: It’s a do-or-die battle for a demoralised, divided Congress

Telangana: It’s a do-or-die battle for a demoralised, divided Congress

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: When the Congress-led Central government bifurcated Andhra Pradesh in 2014, it was hoping to reap the political benefit of the move in the newly created Telangana but nearly a decade later, the party’s position appears to have gone from bad to worse.

Series of defections after 2014 and 2018 elections, humiliating defeat in by-elections and infighting has left the grand old party demoralised in its former strongholds.

With Assembly elections a few months away, the party appears to be in a disarray with BJP seeming to have occupied the space as principal contestant for ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Despite the defeats in two Assembly elections even after claiming credit for carving out Telangana, the Congress party failed to learn the lessons and remains a divided house. Repeated interventions and warnings by the party’s central leadership also failed to set the house in order.

In both 2014 and 2018, the Congress was at least the main rival for BRS but this time the party will be facing the polls even without this status.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and his earlier visit to the state and his advice to the party leaders to remain united failed to yield the desired results.

The recent revolt by a group of senior party leaders against state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy has come as the latest setback for the party even as he was trying to revive party’s fortunes by taking up people’s issues.

The BJP’s emergence as the strong opponent to BRS has pushed the Congress to the third place.

Political observers point out that the Congress is not visible in the mainstream media or even the social media. It’s either BRS or BJP. “The BJP has succeeded in building a narrative of BRS versus BJP as such a narrative suits them,” said observer Palwai Raghavendra Reddy

Series of defections, a string of defeats in by-elections, disastrous performance in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections and continued infighting have weakened the party.

The resignation of sitting MLA from Munugode constituency Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and his defection to BJP to force by-election late last year dealt another blow to the Congress. It faced more embarrassment with its candidate finishing a poor third and forfeiting the deposit.

This was not all. Rajagopal Reddy’s brother and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the star campaigner of Congress party, stayed away from campaigning for Munugode. A video clip of Venkat Reddy predicting Congress party’s defeat during the campaigning left the party leaders red faced.

After dividing Andhra Pradesh by granting statehood to Telangana in 2014, the Congress was hoping to reap the political dividend by claiming credit for carving out the separate state.

However, K. Chandrasekhar Rao dashed its hopes by rejecting the proposal to merge his party with Congress. He decided to maintain the identity of TRS (now BRS) as a political party.

In 2014, the Congress party could win 22 seats in 119-member Telangana Assembly and was completely wiped out in Andhra Pradesh due to the public anger over bifurcation. In Telangana, several party leaders including legislators defected to TRS.

In 2018, Congress faced another disaster. It could win just 19 seats, though it had forged an electoral alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Left parties and some smaller parties.

Even before Congress could gear up for Lok Sabha elections in 2019, it had lost as many as 12 MLAs to the ruling party. Though the party salvaged some pride by winning three Lok Sabha seats, with the reduced strength in Assembly, it lost the status of main opposition to All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), a friendly party of TRS.

The party suffered a huge embarrassment a few months after Lok Sabha as it failed to retain Huzurnagar Assembly seat, where by-election was necessitated with the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy following his election to Lok Sabha.

The BJP wrested the Dubbak Assembly seat from the TRS in 2020 by-election to consolidate itself. The saffron party, which hardly had any presence in the constituency, pushed Congress party to third position.

The Congress suffered another humiliation the same year as it could win just two seats in 150-member Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Owning moral responsibility for the defeat, Uttam Kumar Reddy resigned as the party chief.

The Congress party was pinning its hopes on by-election to Nagarjuna Sagar to revive its fortunes in the state. Its senior leader and former minister K. Jana Reddy lost the contest by over 18,000 votes to TRS candidate.

The appointment of Revanth Reddy as the new state president by the central leadership in 2021 after ignoring several seniors and strong contenders triggered open revolt by a section of leaders, who saw Revanth as an outsider as he had defected to Congress from TDP just before 2018 elections.

The change of guard also could not bring any change in the party’s fortunes. Several seniors started openly attacking Revanth Reddy for sidelining them.

In Huzurabad by-election held towards end of 2021, the Congress party’s performance was disastrous. Its candidate secured only 3,012 votes and lost the deposit. It was a big slump for the party, which had secured 47,803 votes in 2018 to finish runners-up.

The continuing slide raised new questions on the leadership of Revanth Reddy, whose style of functioning also irked some seniors. Recently when he packed the party panels with his loyalists, the senior raised a banner of revolt and launched a movement to save the party. They called it a fight between real Congress leaders and migrants from other parties.

The allegation by seniors that AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore is siding with Revanth Reddy forced the central leadership to intervene and replace him with Manikrao Thakare.

The new in charge last began his efforts to put the house in order. It will be an acid test for Manikrao.

Political observer Raghavendra Reddy believes that this will be the final opportunity for Congress in Telangana. “If the Congress fails to win big numbers, it will be the end of the road for the party. The Congress party’s record across states show that it never made a comeback after losing the status of opposition,” he said citing the instances of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

  • Congress’ Silence Over Article 370 Exposes Its Inherent Contradictions: Rana

Congress’ Silence Over Article 370 Exposes Its Inherent Contradictions: Rana

    [ad_1]

JAMMU: Lashing out at the Congress for ducking response over abrogation of Article 370 as usual due to its inherent contradictions and taking escape route from the chronic political issues it created in Kashmir over the decades, Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana today said the statement of Jairam Ramesh is on expected lines keeping in view the flip-flop policies of his party on issues concerning upholding of Nation’s sovereignty and integrity.

Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of releasing of book ‘Trikaalsandhya and Vaishnav Vratodyaapan Pradeep on Karm-kand’ by Dr Varchaskam Sharma here this afternoon, Rana said the Congress is caught between the deep sea and devil over the historic repeal of Article 370 binding Jammu and Kashmir emotionally and psychologically with rest of the country besides ending the era of deprivation of women and marginalized segments like Valmikis, PoK refugees, Gorkhas, Gujjar Bakerwals west Pak refugees and the other weaker sections.

“Talking about the political issues would certainly expose the Congress, which is solely responsible for all the ills afflicting the body psyche of the nation in general and the Valley in particular because of greed, lust and lack of vision of its so-called towering leaders,” Rana said, adding that such an eventuality is bound to entail the wrath of the party’s new found allies in the communal, divisive, anti-national and pro-Pakistan PAGD who Congress is trying to please and appease.

Rana recalled his earlier statement of the Congress creating alibis to avoid hoisting of the tricolor at the historic Lal Chowk in view of the PAGD’s strong hate for the national flag.

He said Rahul Gandhi has conveniently obliged the hate mongers and anti-national political actors, who had warned of not getting flag bearers for the tricolor in the Valley if Article 370 was tinkered with. Bypassing Lal Chowk thus amounts to compromising national honour and dignity. It is different that the Tiranga is being unfurled for youth of Kashmir day in and day out with pride, he said and referred to the response they got as recently as on the Republic Day when shops in the famous market-place remained open, ending over three-decade culture of hartals and bandhs.

He said this has unnerved the Congress and its masters in the PAGD, who are in the unholy wedlock for their lust for power.

Rana reminded the Congress of its blunders in Kashmir, saying that but for the course correction being made by the BJP, the paradise on the earth was at the brink of disaster.

He said none of the dynasts ever appreciated the genuine aspirations of the Paharis, Gujjars, Refugees, Valmikis and the other categories of marginalized sections, who are witnessing their empowerment for the first time ever since independence of India.

He said the BJP has infused a sense of belonging among the people and heralded a new era of peace and stability. Even the worst adversaries are confessing privately how the malady of stone-pelting and hartal culture has ended in Kashmir with people enthusiastically participating in the odyssey of progress and development.

He added that fillip in Kashmir economy due to record influx of tourism showcases the sincere efforts of the BJP in bringing normalcy and exposes the trio pseudo secularists for their machinations of keeping the Valley in boil, he said, adding that J&K is at the threshold of progress, prosperity and above all the political empowerment in real sense of term.

The books of Dr Varchaskam Sharma, an Assistant Professor in Sanskrit in GMC, Kathua will be distributed free of cost. Dr Sharma has earlier also authored three books on Karm-kand.

Prominent among others those present on the occasion included Pt. Tilak Raj Shastri, Principal, Ranjeet Singh.

  • Restoration Of Democratic Process, Statehood Utmost Priority In J&K: Jairam Ramesh

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament and General Secretary Incharge Communication, AICC, Jairam Ramesh Saturday said that the restoration of democratic process and Statehood are the utmost priority in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Bharat Jodo Yatra is not about the alliance between the political parties. It has nothing to do with the elections and other related process. The yatra is meant to make a platform for 2024,” he said while addressing a news conference today at PCC headquarters in Srinagar.

He said that the security arrangements unlike yesterday were adequate. He further added that the restoration of democratic process and restoration of Statehood is the utmost priority at present.

Ramesh further said that of total 136 days, Rahul Gandhi led yatra marched 4080 kilometers in 116 days in which the people from different walks of the life participated and extended their support.

In J&K also, the yatra was held in five districts each in Jammu and Kashmir while a main and culmination function will be held on January 30 and flag hoisting ceremony will be done at PCC headquarters in Srinagar.

He further said that the main function will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium here in Srinagar. (KNO)

Will quit BJP to join Congress, says Karnataka BJP MLC Vishwanath

    [ad_1]

Mysuru: Karnataka BJP MLC and senior party leader, H. Vishwanath on Saturday confirmed that he is quitting the ruling BJP and joining Congress.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with Karnataka Congress President D.K. Shivakumar and state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, he said, he would join Congress either before the elections or after the elections in the state.

He also maintained that he does not have any difference of opinion with Opposition party leader Siddaramaiah. “We are always fine on personal levels. We studied law together and are friends,” he said.

“I was with Congress party for 40 years. I don’t bother about anything. I have always seen Congress party like a mother. I will not contest in upcoming assembly elections. Not even my children will face the polls,” he said.

“I was with JD(S) party and it was a party of one family members. Seven family members of former Chief Minister Kumaraswamy were cabinet ministers in the coalition government. Later, BJP came to power and administration was not good during BJP’s rule as well. Yediyurappa has continued corruption till date in the state,” he said.

“For all these reasons, I am supporting Congress. Pro-people governance is very important. More than joining Congress party, I support the party,” he added.

Vishwanath, who was the President of JD(S), had quit the party to join BJP. He was in the forefront of rebellion while ‘operation lotus’ was carried out in Karnataka by the ruling BJP.
