Congress won’t raise Savarkar issue due to MVA allies’ differing views: Prithviraj

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Veteran Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has said that his party has agreed not to raise the issue of V D Savarkar since the three Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners hold different views on the late Hindutva ideologue.

He made the statement in an interview to PTI days after former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray gave a warning to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a public meeting last month, saying that the “insult” of Savarkar will not be tolerated. In his speech, Thackeray said he considered Savarkar as his “idol” and hence Gandhi should refrain from insulting him.

Gandhi has often accused Savarkar of “apologising” to the British to get out of jail, and has routinely shot back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demands for an apology by claiming he was a Gandhi and not Savarkar to seek mercy.

    MS Education Academy

Replying to a query on the issue, Chavan said the Congress has agreed not to raise the issue of Savarkar as there were divergent views on him among the MVA allies. The MVA comprises the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena.

“Let the people decide about the truth of the freedom struggle. There is nothing to be apologetic about. We agreed to disagree and agreed not to raise the issue since our partners hold different views on Savarkar,” the former chief minister said.

On being asked if the Savarkar issue had been put to rest by the Congress after it was given on platter to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chavan said his party did not provide any issue on platter to the saffron party.

The BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, which are currently in power in Maharashtra, on Sunday started taking out Savarkar Gaurav Yatras in each district of the state to honour Savarkar’s contribution to the country and to counter Rahul Gandhi’s criticism against him.

  • Rahul to blame for Congress’ present situation, Sonia’s writ runs no longer in party: Azad

Rahul to blame for Congress’ present situation, Sonia’s writ runs no longer in party: Azad

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In a major revelation, former Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday termed Rahul Gandhi the main reason why he was no longer with the party.

Speaking after the launch of his memoirs “Azaad: An Autobiography”, Azad, a former Union Minister and J&K Chief Minister, lauded former party President Sonia Gandhi for working hard to strengthen the party and quipped that if Rahul Gandhi had even accomplished a “150th part” of this, then the party’s current fortunes would have been much better.

He stressed that a political party cannot run according to the whims of its leader, as he noted that he had worked with all the Prime Ministers of the Congress from Indira Gandhi to Manmohan Singh.

    MS Education Academy

Azad also stressed that the Union Cabinet, under Manmohan Singh, in 2013, should have stuck to its stand on the ordinance reversing the Supreme Court order on the automatic disqualification of a convicted lawmaker – which had been withdrawn after Rahul Gandhi had famously torn it up at a press conference, adding that the measure was still in place, he would have not been disqualified as an MP.

In a dig at Rahul Gandhi, he termed him the architect of his own misfortune.

Asked if Rahul Gandhi was the reason that he was no longer part of the Congress, with which he had spent almost all his political career before leaving last year and floating his own party, Azad candidly agreed.

He added that Sonia Gandhi’s writ still ran in the party, he would have never parted ways with it.

Azad also claimed that new Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge was not capable of taking any major decision on his own.

The veteran leader, who was part of the G-23 leaders that had written to Sonia Gandhi seeking widespread reforms in the party, including elections to the Congress Working Committee – its highest decision-making authority, said that he was against the party’s “nomination culture”.

He said that he had often raised the demand for holding elections to the CWC as well as block, district, and state-level units. These elections were held earlier, from the time of Indira Gandhi to P.V. Narasimha Rao.

Azad, who had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his book, said that he was impressed by how Modi had treated him despite all their political clashes. Citing his time as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, he said that he had attacked the Prime Minister on various issues like the abrogation of Article 370, CAA, and the hijab issue, but Modi never resented it.

On a possible linkup between his Democratic Azad Party and the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, he avoided giving a direct anser, saying there were not permanent friends or enemies in politics.

He said that he was not the leader of a regional party but always championed a national agenda.

  • BJP playing OBC card to hide failure, claims Congress

BJP playing OBC card to hide failure, claims Congress

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday accused the Centre of playing the “OBC card” to hide its failures and demanded from it the formation of a separate department, reservation, for other backward classes.

The party’s OBC department head Ajay Singh Yadav told reporters that the central government should release the caste data from the 2011 census and increase the existing limit of ‘creamy layer’ from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh per annum.

Yadav also said that the increased popularity of Rahul Gandhi after the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has struck fear in the BJP.

    MS Education Academy

“It was decided in the Congress convention held in Raipur that the Congress will pressure the government to come out with a caste-based census… If our government is formed in 2024, we will conduct a caste-based census,” he said.

Yadav said that a separate department should be made for OBC so that the OBC classes can get full benefits of the schemes.

He demanded that SC, ST, OBC and minority women get separate representation in the proposed 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha.

Congress leader Subhashini Yadav alleged that the Modi government is playing the “OBC card” due to its “failures” such as demonetisation, GST, ‘black farm laws’, Adani case, Chinese incursions, and the success of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and is instead accusing Rahul Gandhi of insulting OBCs.

“It is an insult to our entire society to describe Lalit Modi and Nirav Modi as OBCs,” she said.

Subhashini, the daughter of socialist leader and former Union Minister late Sharad Yadav, also accused the BJP of being double-faced on the OBC issue.

  • Now, both Congress, RSS show solidarity with BJP’s former Raj chief Poonia on his removal

Now, both Congress, RSS show solidarity with BJP’s former Raj chief Poonia on his removal

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: In a startling coincidence, both Congress as well as RSS veterans are expressed solidarity with BJP’s former Rajasthan President Satish Poonia on his removal from the post, terming it a poor decision taken by his party in the election year which will boomerang on it.

Congress leaders accused the BJP of being “two-faced”, saying that on one hand, they are accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of adopting an “anti-OBC stand”, and on the other hand, have removed OBC leader Poonia as state party President. They also claimed that Poonia was doing fair work and was a hard working leader as they questioned that why was he removed.

The BJP has appointed Poonia as the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Assembly, after replacing him with C.P. Joshi, but Congress say this is not enough for Poonia.

    MS Education Academy

A video has surfaced in which Congress MLA Mahendra Chaudhary from Nawan assembly seat in Nagaur district is seen saying that Poonia worked so hard and suffered injuries on his hands and legs, yet the BJP removed him from the post of state President. Questioning the change, he claimed that the BJP has not only done wrong to Poonia, but meted injustice to the farmers living in 70 per cent of the villages.

Making him the Deputy Leader of the Opposition won’t help, he said, adding that this act of BJP was wrong.

Chaudhary said that when he became Chief Deputy Whip, there was a different arrangement. He said that the BJP has not given any message by making Poonia the Deputy Leader of Opposition, which “is just no post”. He said that there was no allegation against Poonia, yet he was removed, while Poonia did all the work of the party in a better way.

The video is going viral on social media.

Even state Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra hit back at BJP leaders for attacking Gandhi for his alleged anti-OBC statements, while terming removal of Poonia as the “anti-OBC stand” of the saffron party.

Dotasra asked with what face does the BJP who removed OBC state President talk about OBCs. “The BJP is teaching us the lesson on OBCs, but has itself removed the OBC state President. There is always respect for OBCs in the Congress. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and I myself belong to OBC category. BJP only works to divert the attention of the public from the real issues by bringing jumlas,” he quipped.

State minister Subhash Garg even claimed that the BJP will split after removing Poonia from his post.

Meanwhile, the RSS is also dissatisfied with party’s decision and veteran leaders reportedly have expressed their resentment against his removal.

On Friday, there were back to back meetings of RSS veterans including B.L. Santosh, Arun Kumar, among others who expressed their dissatisfaction over the way Poonia was removed.

They said that he should have been given some position before his removal and it could have been conveyed earlier that extension will not be given to him.

Meanwhile, after these meetings, it was decided to announce him as Deputy Leader of Opposition to calm down agitating Jats who form a significant voting bloc in Rajasthan.

  • Karnataka BJP MLA Gopalakrishna joins Congress ahead of Assembly polls

Karnataka BJP MLA Gopalakrishna joins Congress ahead of Assembly polls

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Several BJP and JD(S) leaders joining the Congress ahead of the May 10 Assembly polls in Karnataka is an evidence to prove that public sentiment is in favour of the party and it will come to power, its state unit President D K Shvakumar said on Monday.

He was speaking after inducting Kudligi BJP MLA N Y Gopalakrishna, who had resigned as legislator on Friday, into the party, at KPCC office here.

With the possibility of Gopalakrishna being fielded as a candidate from Molakalmuru constituency, a group of Congress workers picketed outside the KPCC office, demanding the ticket to party leader Yogesh Babu.

    MS Education Academy

“Several BJP and JD(S) leaders are knocking our door, this is evidence to show that the voice of the people of the state is in favour of the Congress and that our march is on a right track, towards power,” Shivakumar said.

Speaking to reporters here, he noted Gopalakrishna resigned as BJP MLA and joined the Congress; similarly JD(S) MLA K M Shivalinge Gowda too has resigned and will be joining the party soon.

BJP and JD(S) legislators joining the Congress voluntarily is a “big evidence” that people have decided for a change, after the “failure of the double engine government”, the KPCC chief further said.

“There is a big list of people wanting to join the Congress…the party has not assured tickets to anyone. We will screen every name, only if we are able to accommodate them we will consider,” he said, adding that there are also some like Gopalakrishna, who are willing to join the party unconditionally to work for it.

Shivakumar’s clarification that those joining the party are not being assured tickets, is seen as a message to protesting party workers, and those disgruntled with such inductions.

Workers are against the party’s possible plans to give Molakalmuru ticket to Gopalakrishna, a “turncoat”, instead of Babu, who was the Congress candidate from the constituency in the 2018 polls.

Gopalakrishna, a six-time MLA, was earlier with the Congress and had got elected from Molakalmuru Assembly segment in Chitradurga district four times, and once from Ballari, before joining the BJP and winning from Kudligi.

After denial of the Congress ticket in 2018, he had joined the BJP ahead of the elections. The saffron party gave him a ticket from Kudligi in Vijayanagara district instead of Molakalmuru, as senior leader Sriramulu was fielded from there. He had won from there.

Recalling his and his family’s long association with the Congress, Gopalakrishna after joining said he will work for the party’s victory in Ballari, Chitradurga and Vijayanagara districts.

He said he will work towards installing a Congress government once again in the state, and it is left for the party leadership to field him from the Molakalmuru Assembly segment.

Recently, two MLCs from BJP — Puttanna and Baburao Chinchansur — had quit from their Legislative Council membership to join the Congress.

JD(S) MLA S R Srinivas (Gubbi Srinivas alias Vasu) too joined the Congress, after resigning as MLA on March 27.

  • Hooda promises OPS if Congress voted to power in Haryana

Hooda promises OPS if Congress voted to power in Haryana

    [ad_1]

Yamunanagar: Eyeing support of government employees, Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday again promised restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if the party was voted to power in 2024 Assembly polls.

He slammed the BJP-JJP government for pushing the state into a debt trap, saying that a state that was once at the top of development has been number one in crime and unemployment.

Addressing the Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh and Jai Bharat Satyagraha programme organised by the Congress here, Hooda, who is the Leader of Opposition in Assembly, said Haryana is one of those states which have more debt than its state budget.

    MS Education Academy

“Today the state is immersed in a debt trap. Law and order has become worse. Haryana ranks number two in the country in crimes like murder and rape. Haryana, which was among the leading states, is rapidly lagging,” he said.

The meeting saw a large attendance with all roads leading to the programme venue were blocked.

Enthused by seeing the huge crowd, Hooda announced that the OPS will be implemented as soon as the Congress government is formed in the state.

“A pension of Rs 6,000 will be given to all elderly and we will give legal guarantee of the MSP (minimum support price). The creamy layer limit of backward class will be increased from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Gas cylinders will be given to women for Rs 500 and sanitation workers would be given permanent jobs,” he promised.

Hooda said he had come to the meeting to listen to grievances of the people.

“In Haryana, farmers, laborers, traders, employees — rural and urban — and every section are repenting. Farmer is not getting the MSP. Today there is no buyer for mustard. The MSP of mustard is Rs 5,450 per quintal but farmers are forced to sell it for Rs 4,000. Potatoes have to be sold at 50 paise per kg in Pipli. It was promised to double the income of the farmer, but the agricultural cost doubled,” he added.

Expressing disagreement with the decision to end the Lok Sabha membership of Rahul Gandhi, Hooda said the Congress would fight a legal battle against this decision. “Today the Constitution itself is in danger, it needs to be protected. We will not allow the Constitution to be tampered with. No power can suppress the voice of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress.”

About the “record unemployment” in the state, he said the youths are migrating to other places for employment. “As soon as the Congress government is formed, we will provide permanent employment to the youth in Haryana itself and will fill vacant government posts,” Hooda added.

More than 24 party MLAs and 50 former ministers, former MLAs and former MPs, besides senior leaders, were present at the programme.

Former minister Ashok Arora, the convener of the Vipak Aapke Samaksh programme, conducted the meeting.

State Congress chief Uday Bhan said the BJP-led Central government is scared of Rahul Gandhi’s questions.

“What is the reason that the debt of Haryana has increased from Rs 60,000 crore to more than 3 lakh crores in the last nine years. Today the petroleum and has prices have come down in international market, but this government is not giving any relief to the common people. The time has come to overthrow this government,” he said.

MP Deepender Hooda said during the Congres government in the state four cities were connected with metro and 12 universities and medical colleges were built.

“The BJP-JJP government has derailed the state from the track of development and has pushed the youth of the state into the unemployment trap.”

BJP launches ‘Congress files’ to target grand-old party over corruption

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday hit out at the Congress by releasing the first episode of ‘Congress Files’, a video series alleging corruption during the grand-old party’s 70-year rule.

The three-minute video featured former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who led both the tenures of the UPA and former Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

In the video, the BJP alleged that Congress has looted Rs 48,20,69,00,00,000 of the public’s hard-earned money.

    MS Education Academy

The BJP said that with Rs 48 trillion 20 billion 69 crore, many works could have been done – from security to the development of the country.

“Using this amount, 24 INS Vikrant, 300 Rafale jets, and 1,000 Mangal Missions could have been made or purchased. But the country had to bear the cost of Congress’ corruption, and it lagged behind in the race of progress,” the video message added.

“During UPA’s tenure from 2004-2014, many scams happened… Coal scam of Rs 1.86 lakh crore, 2G Spectrum scam of Rs 1.76 lakh crore, MGNREGA scam of Rs 10 lakh crore, Commonwealth scam of Rs 70,000 crore, Rs 362 crore bribe in the helicopter deal with Italy, Rs 12 crore bribe for the chairman of the railway board,” the BJP said in the video message.

At the end of the video message, the BJP stated, “This is only the jhanki (trailer) of Congress’ corruption, the movie is still not over.”

  • Congress Misused Art 356 To Topple Opposition 93 Times: Rana

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Describing the Congress as the biggest pollutant in the Indian polity Senior BJP leader Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said history is replete of instances when the congress party belittled democracy by imposing emergency in 1975, abusing Article 356 to topple the duly elected governments 93 times and customizing the national politics by coining the slogan, ‘India is Indira, Indira is India’ way back in 1974.

Calling Congress a fast dwindling political party of the country, Rana while addressing the party workers at Samba said that Congress demolished and mutilated all the institutions of Indian democracy and disfigured its federal structure.

“Those were the times the people had been subjected to unprecedented repression and political exploitation by a family that pushed the stalwarts of the Indian freedom movement to oblivion for lust of power”, he added.

He blamed the Congress for bringing criminalization in Indian politics and dividing the society on caste and religious lines to create vote banks. The posterity will never forgive the Congress for sowing the seeds of caste-culture in the Indian polity that has adversely impacted the society over the decades, he added.

“Times have gone and the factotums of the dynasts must now learn to reconcile and adopt the new political culture of the greatest democracy of the world where a common man belonging to Other Backward Classes can rise to become the Prime Minister and a tribal woman making it to the highest office of Head of the Nation”, Mr Rana said, adding this is New India, which is stepping towards becoming the Vishwa Guru.

The Senior BJP leader termed the euphoria of the opposition as a sign of deep frustration on the face of shrinking political space across the country due to acts of omission and commission and the open loot that has brought them together to form a coalition of corrupt. The fear of being caught for plundering the public exchequer has snatched from them their basic sense of proportion, which is why the political discourse has gone down to the lowest depths of Indian history. In their attempt to demean the nation just because of hate Narendra Modi syndrome, they have started targeting the institutions, not only across the country but around the world as well, he said, adding that this is the least the people of the country will tolerate.

Devender Rana said the joining of hands by north-pole and south- pole of Indian politics is not without an agenda either. Coming as it is at a time when India has emerged as the fifth largest economy of the world and is all set to be the third in the next few years, some elements are desperate to scuttle the nation’s growth story because they don’t want India to shine under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Progressive India is an eye-sore for some nations as well, which is why the rejected politicians back home are getting oxygen to weaken the nation from within. He said all these forces will not succeed, given the resolve of Indians, irrespective of religion, region, caste or creed, to make their nation the world leader.

Rana said the coalition of corrupt and inimical forces abroad are destined to fail in their machinations, adding that this is just a matter of time.
