TSPSC paper leak: SIT serves notice to Cong leader over allegations

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the question paper leak in TSPSC has issued a notice to state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy, asking him to share whatever information he has about the case.

The SIT, which has stepped up the probe with the questioning of nine accused, is also issuing notices to those making allegations relating to the case.

Revanth Reddy, however, said he has not yet received the SIT notice. He said he was not afraid of SIT notice and would share whatever evidence he has if a judicial probe is ordered in the case.

The development came a day after Revanth Reddy made a serious allegation that state minister K.T. Rama Rao’s personal assistant was also involved in the paper leak.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president had said on Sunday that KTR’s personal assistant (PA) Tirupati and one of the key accused in the case, Rajasekhara Reddy, were friends.

He also claimed that Tirupati helped Rajasekhar Reddy get a job in the Telangana State Technological Services (TSTS) on outsourcing basis and later ensured he lands a job in Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) in a key role.

Rajasekhar Reddy is one of the two employees of TSPSC who have been arrested by the police for question paper leak. Rajasekhar Reddy, a network expert, allegedly copied question papers of several exams from confidential systems in the Commission and gave the same to Praveen Kumar, who then shared it with some aspirants for money.

During a protest in Kamareddy district on Sunday, the Congress leader had also claimed that Tirupati and Rajasekhar are friends hailing from neighbouring villages in Malyala mandal of Jagtiyal district and that 100 people belonging to Malyal mandal secured more than 100 marks in Group-1 Prelims. He had demanded that TSPSC should reveal names of 100 people who scored more than 100 marks.

The TPCC chief had also alleged irregularities in 2016 Group-1 results. He said that Madhur, the topper of that exam, came straight from the US to write the exam and secured the first rank. Rajinikanth Reddy, a TSPSC employee, secured fourth rank in that exam.

Revanth Reddy demanded a probe by a sitting judge of the High Court saying a thorough probe was needed to find out from which year the question paper leak was going on.

The TSPSC had conducted the examination on March 5 for 833 vacancies of Assistant Engineer, Municipal Assistant Engineer, Technical Officer, and Junior Technical Officer in various engineering departments. A total of 55,000 candidates had written the exam.

However, the Commission suspected leakage of the question paper and lodged a complaint with the police.

On March 13, police arrested nine people, including two employees of the TSPSC.

Following the arrest of the accused, the Commission cancelled the exam and also postponed other exams scheduled to be held later this month.

Amid doubts that the accused may have leaked question papers of some other exams, the Commission on Friday decided to cancel three other exams, including Group I Prelims.

Nearly 2.86 lakh aspirants of Group I posts had appeared in Group-I exam conducted on October 16, 2022.

Police action against Rahul Gandhi a cowardly act by Modi govt: Maha Cong chief

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole has said the police action against party leader Rahul Gandhi was a “cowardly” act by the panic-stricken Narendra Modi government.

He said the prime minister’s attempt to suppress Rahul Gandhi’s voice by using the police will not succeed and Congress will continue to seek answers on the alleged scam by industrialist Gautam Adani.

Patole’s comments came on Sunday when Rahul Gandhi faced a Delhi Police team that reached his residence to inquire about his “women are still being sexually assaulted” statement made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“I condemn the police action against Rahul Gandhi which is a cowardly act by the panic-stricken Modi regime,” Patole told reporters.

He said Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are not scared due to the oppression unleashed by the authoritarian Modi government. “The Congress party will bring the dark truth about Adani-Modi before the country,” he added.

“PM Modi is scared because Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha exposed a multi-crore scam of Gautam Adani and also the PM’s relations with the industrialist. And because of this, the prime minister is trying to suppress Rahul Gandhi’s voice by using the police. But Rahul and the Congress party are not scared,” Patole added.

He said the Congress will continue to raise its voice along with Rahul Gandhi.

Patole said the Adani scam has put the common people of the country at risk of losing lakhs of crores of their hard-earned money put in the State Bank of India and the LIC.

“Investors have lost thousands of crores due to the collapse of Adani Group’s shares. Rahul Gandhi demanded an inquiry into the Adani Group scam through a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

“But instead of an inquiry, the government sent a notice to Rahul Gandhi for a statement he made during Bharat Jodo Yatra 45 days ago. They are now sending the police to his house for investigation,” the Congress leader said.

New Delhi: As the Delhi Police questioned Rahul Gandhi over his “women still being sexually assaulted” remark, the Congress on Sunday took a jibe at the government, saying “Savarkar samjha kya… naam Rahul Gandhi hai”.

Law Minister and BJP leader Kiren Rijiju responded on Twitter urging not to “insult” the great personality (Veer Savarkar). “I request with folded hands,” the minister said.

The Congress tweeted a photo of the former party chief in the driver’s seat of a car, and said, “Savarkar samjha kya… naam- Rahul Gandhi hai (Have you considered him Savarkar?… the name is Rahul Gandhi).”

Reacting to it, Rijiju said, “Kripya mahan atma Veer Savarkar ka apmaan na karen. Haath jod kar vinti karta hun (Please don’t insult great personality Veer Savarkar. I request with folded hands)”.

A Delhi Police team on Sunday questioned Gandhi at his residence here over his remark made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra that “women are still being sexually assaulted and asked him to provide information about the “victims” to take up their complaints, officials said.

    Rahul gandhi Delhi police

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday condemned the Delhi Police action against Rahul Gandhi and called it the worst case of “political vendetta” and “harassment”, asserting that the Centre was setting a wrong precedent by registering such cases against political opponents.

Addressing a joint press conference at the AICC headquarters here, party leaders Ashok Gehlot, Jairam Ramesh and Abhishek Singhvi said the move was a clear case of “vendetta, intimidation and harassment” in order to create an atmosphere against the former Congress chief.

Gehlot asserted that the central dispensation was setting a bad example by registering cases on statements of opposition leaders made during political campaigns, adding that the BJP leaders could face similar action over remarks made in states not ruled by it.

He said if Union ministers make similar comments in opposition-ruled states during elections, they may face the same action as done by the Delhi Police.

The Delhi Police on Sunday reached the residence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with a notice issued to him over his “women are still being sexually assaulted” remark made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The police team headed by Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda arrived at Gandhi’s 12, Tughlaq Lane residence, officials said.

Hitting out at the police action, Singhvi said the statements in question were made by Gandhi in Srinagar on January 30 and thus the same does not fall under the Delhi Police jurisdiction.

He also wondered why the city police force was showing so much alacrity in making frequent visits to Gandhi’s residence after 45 days of the remarks made by the former Congress chief.

He added that the move was to divert the attention from the Adani issue, but the Congress and other opposition parties will not backtrack.

BJP evading questions by blocking parliamentary proceeding: Cong MP Manickam Tagore

    [ad_1]

Panaji: Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Saturday alleged that ruling members are blocking the process of parliament to evade the questions on ‘Adani scam’ and relation of latter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference, Manickam Tagore said, “We want parliament to function, but BJP doesn’t want it as we are asking questions about Adani’s scam and relation between Modi and Adani. For that, proceedings are being blocked by the ruling party. But we will continue to raise these issues,” Tagore said.

Manickam Tagore, who is also Congress’ Goa in-charge, is on a two-day visit to the state to attend party meetings and ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra’.

He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wanted to clarify over his remarks on Indian democracy, however he has not been allowed to speak.

“Rahul Gandhi wanted to speak from Thursday, because allegations were made by the defence minister, law minister and parliamentary affairs minister… he wanted to clarify and put his views. He has not been allowed to speak,” he said.

“It’s a black day for democracy. Attack on parliamentary proceedings shows that Modi’s government doesn’t believe in democratic process. Opposition parties are demanding Joint Parliamentary Committee on ‘Adani scam’. All 18 parties are demanding it,” Tagore further said.

“In parliament for the past one week oppositions are not allowed to speak. BJP leaders are blocking the parliament functioning. First time in the history of parliament in India, the ruling party is involved in adjournment of parliament. Only the ministers are allowed to speak in parliament. Members of all 18 opposition parties are not given the opportunity to speak,” he lamented.

Meanwhile, the Political Affairs Committee of Congress in Goa has expressed solidarity with their leader Rahul Gandhi.

Who will resign for this?: Cong on conman posing as PMO official in Kashmir

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday expressed concern over the case of a conman posing as a PMO official and getting requisite perks, saying if the government is serious about the country’s security then it must make it clear who will resign for the lapse.

Kiran Bhai Patel from Gujarat has been arrested by police from a five-star hotel in Srinagar for posing as an ‘additional secretary’ in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and enjoying security cover besides other hospitality.

He had three cases registered against him in his home state, police said on Friday.

At a press conference, Congress’ media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said it was a very serious matter pertaining to the country’s security and the government probably was not focussed on such matters as it was “busy protecting the prime minister’s best friend”.

“If anyone asks questions to the Modi government, he is anti-national. Which national interest are you serving? If you are at least a little serious about the security of the nation, then tell me that at the political level who will resign in this matter?” Khera said.

“Our three essential questions are — can a PMO officer get Z+ security, should Z+ security be given and is Z+ security availed so easily. It is very important to know from which level the instructions to give security to a thug came?” he said.

In a sensitive area like Jammu and Kashmir, a person has been cheating the security forces for five months and is roaming in those areas with Z+ security by making a PMO card, where common citizens cannot go, he said and raised questions over the government’s intelligence mechanism.

Khera said the government must answer whose resignation will be taken for this lapse.

The ruling party has such a toolkit that the one who asks questions of them is an anti-national while one person takes Z+ security by printing fake cards of the PMO, the Congress leader alleged.

According to court documents, Patel was on his third visit to the Kashmir valley and was subsequently nabbed by alert security officials on March 3.

Patel had claimed he had been given a mandate by the government to identify buyers for apple orchards in south Kashmir and a couple of IAS officers were in awe of him as he had been dropping names of high-ranking bureaucrats and politicians in the national capital.

Cong finalises around 100 candidates for Karnataka, some MLAs to be dropped

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress has finalised about 100 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections where it has decided to go solo.

The party’s Central Election Committee met on Friday evening and deliberated on each seat. The list is likely to come out soon.

Congress’ state chief D.K. Shivakumar said that the the party will not go in any alliance in the state.

Sources said that some sitting MLAs may not get ticket.

The Congress currently has 68 MLAs in the 224-member house and the state screening committee already prepared a list comprising names for most of the constituencies.

The committee has recommended single names for more than 100 constituencies and two or three names for other constituencies.

State leaders have urged the party should also give proper representation to sub-castes of SCs/STs and Other Backward Class.

The Congress has received more than 1,300 applications for the 224 seats and Shivakumar said that “the people of the state have made their mind for change as they are fed up of corruption of the BJP government”.

Congress in Karnataka is strategising to field a formidable candidate against Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Shiggaon constituency to ensure his defeat, sources said

The party will soon take a call on fielding former minister Vinay Kulkarni against Bommai. The calculation is that Kulkarni belongs to Panchamasali sub caste of Lingayat community while Bommai belongs to Sadar sub-caste.

Cong MP writes to LS Speaker, accuses govt of disrupting House’s functioning

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accusing the government of disrupting the functioning of the House.

Chowdhury said in the letter that the parliamentary disruptions are government-sponsored and Opposition must get an opportunity to put forward its views in the House.

“With a heavy heart and deep sense of anguish, I am writing this second letter to you regarding the government-sponsored disruption in the House. As you may recall, I had categorically mentioned in my first letter the details of the procedures and rules that are outlined in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the House, which not only guide in conducting the Business of the House but also provide ample guidance for conduct of Members inside the House,” the Congress MP mentioned in the letter.

He further claimed there is a “well-hatched conspiracy on the part of the party in power to tarnish the image of Rahul Gandhi”.

“What is more disturbing for me to observe is that even the Ministers themselves vociferously take the lead to disrupt the proceedings. The voice of the leaders of Opposition parties is not being heard at all,” Chowdhury said.

“The disruption by the Treasury Bench Members, the lead role being played by the Ministers in disrupting the House, silencing of all the mikes of opposition members goes on to amply substantiate the views expressed by Rahul Gandhi that ‘Mikes of the opposition members are often muted’,” he said.

He further appealed to ensure that the Opposition members get an opportunity to ventilate their view points in the House, in a fair manner and enjoy the basic political right as an elected representative.

Slugfest between Cong, BJP intensifies; no business in Parliament for third straight day

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The proceedings in Parliament were disrupted for the third straight day on Wednesday as the political slugfest between the BJP and the Congress over Rahul Gandhi’s democracy remarks and the Adani issue intensified and the opposition parties took to the streets.

The BJP stepped up the ante against Gandhi, saying India’s democracy is not in peril but the Congress party has been brought to “political perish” by the people while the opposition party escalated its offensive, accusing the government of “undermining and weakening” democracy in the country by stalling Parliament to save a businessman.

The Congress along with several other opposition parties also took out a protest march from Parliament House to hand over a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate on the Adani issue. However, they were stopped by the police at Vijay Chowk.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the police did not allow the opposition MPs of around 18 parties to march in protest and present their case for a detailed investigation into the Adani issue.

Later, opposition leaders emailed a letter to ED Director S K Mishra. The parties told the probe agency that “it cannot turn around and abdicate its jurisdiction”.

The letter was signed by leaders of the Congress, CPI, CPI-M, JDU, SS (UBT), RJD, DMK, JMM, AAP, IUML, VCK, Kerala Congress and others.

The logjam continued in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

In Lok Sabha, opposition members stormed into the Well of the House, raising placards and slogans, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani matter while the BJP slammed Rahul, accusing him of insulting India and cast aspersion against the Speaker of the House.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla repeatedly urged the members to return to their seats and allow the house to run.

“This house is meant for holding discussions and dialogues. Let’s talk about policy and have a good discussion on issues related to public welfare. If we want people’s welfare and consider this house a temple of democracy, I will request that at least don’t comment on this house,” Birla said.

“It is not right to comment, either inside (the house) or outside. Talk about issues and policy here. It is not right to bring placards like this here. I am warning you. This is wrong,” he said.

Rajya Sabha proceedings were also disrupted amid uproar over the BJP’s demand for Gandhi’s apology for his “democracy under attack” remark made in London.

Both houses have failed to transact business so far in the second leg of the Budget session of Parliament that began on Monday.

Gandhi, during his recent UK visit, had alleged that the structures of Indian democracy were under “brutal attack” and there was a full-scale assault on the country’s institutions.

His remarks triggered a massive political row, with the BJP accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interventions and the Congress hitting back, citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising internal politics abroad.

Outside the Parliament also, the BJP kept the heat on Rahul Gandhi with Union minister Smriti Irani saying India’s democracy is not in peril but the Congress party has been brought to “political perish” by the people for the kind of behaviour its leader (Rahul Gandhi) exhibited overseas,

Gandhi’s grudge with Prime Minister Modi has taken the shape of a grudge with India, she charged, demanding that the Wayanad MP of the Congress apologise to Parliament for his remarks.

Addressing a press conference, Irani alleged that “at the feet of India’s colonial past” Gandhi lamented the “lack of foreign intervention” in India’s democracy. This is to bring to a halt India’s resilient growth story under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, she said.

She said the “lies that became a foundation of the Congress leader’s conversation in England” were many.
