China: FM hits back at Cong, says Nehru had washed his hands off north-east

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday hit back at the Congress questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on Chinese actions on the border, saying the country’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru had washed his hands off north-east.

She said that in 1962, the entire north-east was “left to meet their own fate” and Nehru had washed his hands off the region.

“We have stopped Chinese from coming into Arunachal Pradesh. Our action speaks for it. So they (Congress) can go on saying ‘Oh, Prime Minister doesn’t speak. I want him (Rahul Gandhi) to please check up on what their first Prime Minister, our first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had said. He washed his hands off (north-east)”, Sitharaman said.

    MS Education Academy

She was responding to questions at a press conference here.

“If you travel to Arunachal Pradesh and some parts of Assam, people themselves will say. The people of Arunachal Pradesh at the ground kept steadily with India and every Chinese had to go away,” the Union Minister said.

The Congress took strong objection on Tuesday to China renaming several places in Arunachal Pradesh, and charged it is the result of Modi’s “clean chit” to the neighbouring country and his “eloquent silence” on Chinese actions at the border.

India outrightly rejected the renaming, asserting that the state is an integral part of India and assigning “invented” names does not alter this reality.

New Delhi’s reaction came in response to Beijing announcing Chinese names for 11 more places in Arunachal Pradesh, which the neighbouring country claims as southern part Tibet.

Whitewashing with a vengeance: Cong on over deletions from NCERT textbooks

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday hit out at the government over some texts missing from NCERT’s new class 12 textbooks, including Mahatma Gandhi’s pursuit of Hindu-Muslim unity irking the right-wing and the ban on the RSS for some time, and called it “whitewashing with a vengeance”.

The NCERT, however, claims that no curriculum trimming has happened this year and the syllabus was rationalised last year in June.

“Gandhiji’s death had a magical effect on communal situation in the country”, “Gandhiji’s pursuit of Hindu-Muslim unity provoked Hindu extremists”, “organisations like RSS were banned for some time”, “communal politics began to lose its appeal”–these are among the texts missing from class 12 political science textbooks for the new academic session.

    MS Education Academy

Tagging a media report on it, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter, “Whitewashing with a vengeance.”

Tagging another report which claimed that chapters related to the Mughals and Dalit writers have also been axed from the textbooks, he said, “This reveals the ruling regime’s TRUE mindset. After all, the RSS had not only attacked Gandhi but had been bitterly opposed to Dr Ambedkar as well.”

Union minister Shobha Karandlaje defended the decision to remove certain references from the textbooks and said the Congress was the biggest manipulator of India’s historical facts and the BJP was only correcting the wrongdoings of the past.

“Facts that threatened @INCIndia and never made it to textbooks were — Barbarism of Mughals, Era of Emergency, Genocide of Kashmir Pandits and Sikhs, Corruption of Congress. BJP is only correcting your wrongdoings,” she said.

Asked about the deletions from the textbooks, an NCERT official said, “Subject expert panel had recommended dropping texts on Gandhi. It was accepted last year only. It was not mentioned in the list of rationalised content due to oversight. Any missing contents in the list will be notified in a day or two.”

NCERT’s scrapping of chapter on Mughals, attempt to change history: Jharkhand Cong

    [ad_1]

Ranchi: The decision to drop lessons on Mughal courts from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books is an attempt to change the nation’s history, alleged Avinash Pandey, Congress’s general secretary in-charge for Jharkhand on Monday.

Boards which use NCERT textbooks which include CBSE are expected to be impacted by the decision.

Uttar Pradesh has announced that government schools will adopt the NCERT’s new class 12 history textbooks in which portions about Mughal courts have been removed from this academic session.

    MS Education Academy

As part of its “syllabus rationalisation” exercise last year, the NCERT, citing “overlapping” and “irrelevant” as reasons, dropped certain portions from the syllabus including lessons on Mughal courts from its class 12 textbooks.

Pandey told mediapersons that party senior leader Rahul Gandhi has taken this issue seriously and Congress will oppose the move.

Hitting out at Centre, Pandey said democracy is under threat in the country.

He said the party will launch its Jai Bharat Satyagraha Yatra from Lohardaga tomorrow and will create awareness among masses as to how opposition voices were being shut on raising issues in Parliament.

The Satyagraha Yatra will conclude on April 16, he said.

BJP to organise protests across Rajasthan to corner Cong govt

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: The BJP will organise protest demonstrations in all districts of the state against various issues including paper leaks, law and order and women safety in coming days.

Newly appointed BJP state president CP Joshi said the party will create a movement against the “anti-people policies” of the Congress government.

The issues and strategy to corner the Ashok Gehlot government were discussed in a meeting of office-bearers held at the party’s state headquarters here on Sunday.

    MS Education Academy

It was the first state party meeting after Chittorgarh MP CP Joshi took charge as the state unit president, succeeding Satish Poonia.

“The Congress party has always done the politics of division. It was under the Congress rule that the massacre of Sikhs took place in 1984. Terrorists also got patronage and protection during the Congress government,” Joshi alleged in the meeting.

He said that in peace-loving Rajasthan, the government over the past four-and-a-half years has given protection to people who have been spoiling harmony.

Joshi also accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of doing politics of appeasement.

He said Chief Minister Gehlot talks about winning 156 seats in the 2023 assembly elections, while Congress MLAs and ministers have raised question marks on his current tenure. “So there is no possibility of repeating a Congress government”.

“The Congress could win only 21 and 56 seats in the assembly after the two terms of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The people of Rajasthan will give an answer to the Congress government in the 2023 assembly elections. The BJP will get a huge mandate,” he said.

BJP national general secretary and state in-charge Arun Singh shared the party’s poll action plan with the office-bearers presidents of various state party units, district in-charge and district presidents.

Co in charge Vijaya Rahatkar and other leaders were also present in the meeting.

A meeting of BJP legislators and core committee was also held later.

  • Owaisi slams Cong for decision to appeal 2008 Jaipur blasts verdict

Owaisi slams Cong for decision to appeal 2008 Jaipur blasts verdict

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday slammed the Congress-led Rajasthan government for its decision to appeal the Rajasthan High Court’s decision to acquit four Muslim men in the Jaipur serial bomb blast case which rocked the state capital on May 13, 2008.

Late on Friday night, at a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reviewed the acquittal of the four accused. He decided to remove Additional Advocate General (AAG) Rajendra Yadav for the weak prosecution in the case with immediate effect.

Also, Chief Minister Gehlot ordered a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court at the earliest against the acquitted accused.

    MS Education Academy

Owaisi said that the HC had raised serious questions on the ATS officer and that many evidences appear to be forged.

“…The court said that many evidences appear to be forged, action should be taken against the investigating officer. The Gehlot government wants to appeal instead of investigating. Don’t know how many thousands of innocent Muslims’ lives have been ruined because of the UAPA-love of the Congress. Junaid-Nasir were brutally murdered by Hindutvaists in Rajasthan a few months back, till now only one accused has been caught,” Owaisi said in a series of tweets.

The Hyderabad MP further questioned the Gehlot government on why it was silent when the Centre did not appeal against the verdict acquitting the culprits in the Khwaja Ajmer Dargah bomb blast case.

“….Why was the Gehlot government silent then? From this you must have got an idea for whom the heart of Congress beats,” he remarked.

In this context, the AIMIM chief also took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his ‘Mohabbat ki Dukan remark he made during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jaipur. “Where are those people who were setting up ‘Mohabbat ki Dukan’ by conducting seminars in Jaipur? What is his stand?” he asked.

A division bench of Justices Pankaj Bhandari and Sameer Jain acquitted these four convicts who had presented 28 appeals in the High Court. The hearing on this entire case was going on for 48 days.

In its verdict, the bench reportedly said that the investigating officer did not have legal knowledge. Therefore, instructions have been given to the DGP to take action against the investigating officer as well. The court has also asked the Chief Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the investigating officer.

Syed Sadat Ali, the lawyer representing the accused, said that the High Court has termed the entire theory of ATS wrong, which is why the accused have been acquitted.

He said that four accused were sentenced to death by the sessions court. “We had come to the High Court against that decision. One of the accused is a minor. The court has accepted that he was 16 years old at the time of the incident. The court acquitted the accused by saying that there is no proof against the accused. ATS and Prosecution have not been able to prove the allegations. Neither planting bombs has been proved nor was it proved that the accused had bought the cycle.”

“The court made strong remarks about the Investigation Officer while giving the verdict. The court has ordered DGP Rajasthan to take action against Rajendra Singh Nayan, Jai Singh and retired IPS officer Mahendra Chaudhary, who were the investigating officers of the entire case. In the 10-page judgment, the court said that the theory of the police does not match with the entire case.”

On May 13, 2008, there were serial bomb blasts at 8 places in the walled city. In these, 71 people were killed, while 185 were injured. The court found Mohd Saif, Saifur Rahman, Sarwar Azmi and Mohd Salman guilty of murder, sedition and the Explosives Act.

A total of 13 people were made accused in this case by the police. Three accused are still absconding, while two are lodged in jails of Hyderabad and Delhi. The remaining two criminals have been killed in the Batla House encounter in Delhi. The four accused were lodged in Jaipur jail and were sentenced to death by the lower court.

Former BJP state chief Satish Poonia said: “The acquittal of all four convicted in such a big offense by the high court raises doubts on the advocacy of the Ashok Gehlot government of Rajasthan.

“The manner in which the evidence was presented by the ATS, and later it was clipped and edited and the manner in which the court said that the prosecution was not done properly and the evidence did not come in a proper manner, raises doubts on the side of the investigation.”

Limit to even transparency in ‘New India’: Cong on PM’s degree case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday took a swipe at the government, saying there is a limit to even transparency in ‘New India’, after the Gujarat High Court set aside an order of the Central Information Commission asking the Gujarat University to provide information on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree.

The high court set aside the seven-year-old order of the commission, asking the varsity to provide information on prime minister’s degree to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Allowing the Gujarat University’s appeal against the Central Information Commission (CIC) order, Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and asked him to deposit the amount within four weeks to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA).

Reacting to the verdict, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh in a tweet in Hindi said, “There is a limit to even transparency in New India. This is what the ‘Entire Political Science’ teaches.”

Asked about the issue at a press conference, Congress’ media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said, “See, why this matter went to the court. Courts have lot of pressure… PM’s educational qualification, whether his degree is genuine or not, this matter going to a court is astonishing.”

“It’s a matter of paradox in India, in a country where four crore cases are pending in courts, a hearing is happening on the prime minister’s degree. So, why this situation came up, we need to understand. ‘Entire Political Science’, I haven’t heard of it, if you have heard about it, please tell me,” Khera told reporters in response to a query.

“Even if today such a degree is offered then, I would like to take it,” he said.

  • Gandhi family is Cong pivot, keeps party united: Rajasthan CM Gehlot

Gandhi family is Cong pivot, keeps party united: Rajasthan CM Gehlot

    [ad_1]

Jodhpur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday called the Gandhi family the pivot of the Congress and said it held the party together.

Addressing a meeting of Congress workers, he accused the BJP of deploying a paid “army of trolls” on social media to malign the image of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

“This army has been after Rahul Gandhi for the past eight or nine years. Whatnot has been said about him on social media by their trolls’ army to malign his image,” the Congress leader said, alleging that the BJP has paid thousands of people for this.

He said there is a reason why the Gandhi family is considered the “pivot” of the party. “If this family is there, the Congress will remain united,” he said.”They have the capability of taking everyone along – all castes, all religions and people speaking every language.”

Gehlot was accompanied by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Govind Singh Dotasra and the AICC in-charge for Rajasthan Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in the Jodhpur trip.

The party is protesting Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha following his conviction by a Gujarat court over a remark on the Modi surname.

The CM repeated his allegation that Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was involved in the Sanjeevani Credit Cooperative Society scam that defrauded a large number of investors.

The minister has earlier denied the allegations and reported the “defamation attempt” to the police in Delhi.

Gehlot charged that democracy is at risk under the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre.

“I see in them arrogance and autocracy. The way they conspired to target Rahul Gandhi shows that they were scared of his shining image globally after the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” he claimed.

Gehlot accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of evading questions in Parliament on the Adani Group, and said this deepened “suspicion” about his relationship with the tycoon.

Cong slams Smriti Irani for criticising its leadership, says ‘sanskar’ of RSS

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday hit back at Union minister Smriti Irani for her scathing criticism of its leadership over the alleged remarks by the party’s youth wing president Srinivas BV, saying the words she used were of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ‘sanskar’ are of the RSS.

Irani on Tuesday hit out at the Congress leadership over the alleged remarks by Srinivas BV against her, saying the words he used were of Rahul Gandhi and the ‘sanskar’ of Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP leader also alleged that Congress members who want “promotion” will continue to make “such kind of comments” against her so long as Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are there in the party.

Hitting back at Irani, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “Smriti Irani ji why do you play the victim card? I have a question — You keep silent on Lakhimpur-Hathras incident, Shahjahanpur sexual abuse. You remain silent even when a BJP MP calls a woman MP -an MLA ‘Vaishali ki nagarvadhu’? You apologize to this country.”

The problem is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP do not have the answers to the questions asked by Rahul Gandhi on the Adani issue, Shrinate said at a press conference.

“What kind of love story is this that the country’s PM, ministers and MPs are saving Adani by putting every convention aside,” she said.

“Today Smriti Irani ji has given a very low statement. After listening to his statement, I can say this — ‘The words are of Narendra Modi and ‘sanskar’ are of RSS’ According to which — lie, lie again and again and spread bad propaganda,” Shrinate said.

The BJP on Monday attacked Srinivas BV over his allegedly disparaging remarks against Irani, saying the Congress has become a “cesspool of misogyny”.

The youth Congress reacted strongly to the charges, claiming BJP leaders were sharing a doctored video of the speech made by Srinivas to tarnish his and the party’s image. “It is nothing but a disinformation and fake news campaign initiated by BJP supporters and office bearers,” it said in a statement.

The alleged remarks were made by Srinivas at the Sankalp Satyagrah organised by the Congress at the Rajghat to protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as Lok Sabha MP following his conviction by a Surat court in a defamation case.

In a clip of his speech delivered in Hindi, Srinivas can be heard saying, “The BJP means inflation. These same people in 2014 used to say that there is inflation witch which has been made to sit… Smriti Irani has become a little mute and deaf. That witch (Daayan)… Inflation witch (Mehengaai Daayan) has been made a darling and made to sit in the bedroom.”

Pawar steps in amid row over Rahul’s Savarkar remark, asks Cong to tone down attack

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Amid strains in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi alliance over Rahul Gandhi’s strident criticism of V D Savarkar, NCP chief Sharad Pawar has stepped in to play the peacemaker by conveying the Shiv Sena’s concerns on the issue to the Congress leadership.

Opposition leaders said Congress has agreed to tone down its criticism of Savarkar, which has led to unease among the NCP and Shiv Sena, its alliance partners in Maharashtra.

Pawar raised the issue during a meeting of opposition leaders convened by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday evening and made it clear that targeting Savarkar, a revered figure in Maharashtra, would not help the opposition alliance in the state, two leaders who attended the meeting told PTI.

Former Congress Presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were present at the meeting along with leaders of opposition parties.

Pawar also told Rahul Gandhi that Savarkar was never a member of the RSS and underscored that the real fight of the opposition parties was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

As the BJP stepped up attack on Rahul Gandhi and sought his apology for “maligning” India on his recent tour to the UK, the former Lok Sabha member from Wayanad had said that he was not Savarkar and would not apologise.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had slammed Gandhi for his attack on Savarkar and said his outfit will not tolerate any insult of the freedom fighter.

The Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena had skipped the meeting convened by Kharge as a mark of protest against Gandhi’s remarks targeting Savarkar.

Cong MLAs in Goa wear black clothes to protest Rahul’s LS disqualification

    [ad_1]

Panaji: Congress legislators in Goa on Monday wore black clothes while attending the Assembly Session as a mark of protest against the disqualification of former INC president Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha.

All three Congress MLAs, including Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa came to the Goa Legislative Assembly in black clothes.

“We strongly condemn the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi who spoke the truth and exposed the crony capitalist agenda of the BJP government. As a mark of protest, all three of us are wearing black clothes today,” Yuri Alemao told reporters.

Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira and Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa also criticised the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.

The former Congress president was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted him over a 2019 speech.

The Congress on Sunday staged ‘Satyagraha’ to protest Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha. Alemao had said “what is seen these days is dictatorship”.

“The Bharat Jodo Yatra was a movement to highlight the communal politics. Rahul Gandhi got good support from the yatra and after its success, the Central government got scared,” Alemao said.

He further said “crony capitalists and double engine governments have ruined the future of the youth”.

“Dictatorship should be stopped. Rahul Gandhi was disqualified because the BJP could not face him. It was a ‘black day’ in the country,” he had said.
