Casteist slur in college fest: Karnataka Cong raises concern, urges for action

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress on Saturday raised concern over use of casteist slur in a skit performed at a college fest here.

“There is a video containing abusive and objectionable content on Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Dalit communities being exhibited in a programme organised at Jain college in Bengaluru,” it stated in its social media handle.

Demanding an action by the City Police Commissioner and Bengaluru police in this regard, the party said, “The police should take cognisance of the incident and initiate legal action.”

The incident during a college skit recently in Bengaluru has triggered a row with a police complaint being registered.

‘The Delroys Boys’, who performed the skit, have tendered an unconditional apology for the same. However, the debate over the issue is gaining traction.

On Thursday evening a group of students published an online petition on Jhatkaa.org bringing the incident to light. The petition stated the college contingent from Jain University’s Centre for Management Studies (CMS) staged an incredibly casteist and insensitive skit at the event.

The anonymous petitioners objected to the normalisation of caste discrimination in the pretext of humour. The skit was performed as part of ‘MadAds,’ a segment at the fest where the participants had to advertise imaginary products along lines of humour.

‘The Delroys Boys’, the theatre group from CMS, who are in the thick of controversy, in their skit, exhibited a man belonging to the lower caste attempting to date an upper caste woman. The skit turned B.R. Ambedkar as Beer Ambedkar. The phase of why be Dalit, when you can be D-Lit.

Akshay Bansode, State Member of the Vanchit Bahujan Yuva Aghadi has filed a police complaint in Maharashtra under provisions of the Atrocity Act and IPC. The complainant had urged the police to treat the complaint as FIR and initiate action against the performers and University.

The complainant had urged the police to treat the complaint as an FIR and initiate action against the performers and University.

Sources explain that the controversial skit was performed at other platforms. The Delroys Boys maintained that they apologise to everyone they have spoken badly about.

  • Cong MP Rajani Patil suspended for filming RS proceedings

Cong MP Rajani Patil suspended for filming RS proceedings

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In the first action against unruly MPs since Jagdeep Dhankhar took over as Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Rajani Ashokrao Patil was on Friday suspended for the remainder of the Budget session for filming proceedings of the House.

Right at the start of the day, Dhankhar expressed displeasure at MPs not following rules and indicated that action would be taken against those who filmed the ruckus that opposition parties had created during the reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the motion thanking the President for her address to Parliament.

Later, Leader of the House and Union minister Piyush Goyal moved a motion seeking Patil’s suspension, after which the chairman asked the leaders of various political parties to air their views on the issue.

While most opposition MPs stated that the Rajya Sabha TV was biased in covering the proceedings of the House, some like Manoj Jha of the RJD wanted a House committee to look into the conduct before any action is taken.

In her defence, Rajani Patil said she was ready to be “rusticated” for not just this session but the entire year as she strongly felt that the BJP humiliates opposition MPs.

“The way the discussion is taking place, I feel if a mistake has been committed by someone unknowingly, if you give such a big punishment by taking name…Someone who comes from the family of freedom fighters…has no right to stay here,” she added.

“If you want, you can, for not just this session but for the rest of the sessions, rusticate me and I can even give resignation,” Patil said.

Dhankhar said Patil “is suspended for the remaining period of the current session and till there is a report available for consideration of the House from the privileges committee, I put this motion for consideration of this House”.

“Taking note of the sentiment of the House, it is hereby directed that all steps be taken that are applicable for a member who is under suspension and this will be effective during the remaining period of the current session, subject to a report being made available by the privileges committee for consideration of this House,” he said.

Dhankhar said a suggestion had been made that an immediate investigation by outside agencies be undertaken but added that he has categorically ruled it out.

“I said no, that idea does not occur to me…I said as chairman I will vindicate the trust of my electorate, we will deal with it in-house and not seek any outside assistance,” the chairman said.

When Modi was replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address on Thursday, opposition MPs had trooped into the Well of the House, shouting slogans all through the 90-minute speech as they felt the questions they had asked remained answered.

Barring fleeting visuals of the opposition protest, Rajya Sabha TV, which is the only medium that provides visuals of House proceedings, maintained its focus on Modi, the treasury benches or the chair.

Ranjeet Ranjan of the Congress alleged there was partiality against the opposition members in the coverage of the Upper House proceedings by Rajya Sabha TV. The issues raised by the opposition are not shown, she alleged.

“There should be an enquiry as to whether such a video was made viral just to defame the opposition,” she said.

While Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said rule 256 may not apply here and it requires a lot of investigation before the chairman considers any further action.

“Obviously, there are factual matters, there would be some notice and response. There are no facts with anybody. The facts may be this way or that way,” he said.

Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi Party said at times, it seems that the Upper House is functioning like a small village panchayat that can decide to punish someone any time.

“Mountains are not going to fall. Similar incidents have happened several times earlier also. I pray to you not to take this incident seriously,” he said.

While moving the motion, Piyush Goyal said, “An unfortunate incident has happened yesterday where it has been found that on social media, we are seeing a video recorded in this august House, in a very very unfortunate manner showing senior members of Parliament in poor light.”

The video was unauthorisedly recorded by the member during the proceedings of the House which has been distributed through social media. It also shows members of the principal opposition in poor light, he said.

Any such action done by any member to record and distribute on social media is of “serious concern” and members of Parliament have already complained to the chairman about this incident, Goyal pointed out.

“This has brought disrepute to the entire august House and its members and the chair,” he said, adding that the incident happened despite several warnings given to all members even during the time of former chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

Goyal further requested the Chairman “to name the member who was involved in this act” and emphasised that appropriate action should be taken befitting the regards for the chair and the rules of the House in this case.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said the chair has the authority to decide the matter but urged it not to take decisions based on pressure from the treasury bench.

He suggested that after an enquiry, if the individual was found guilty, she could be warned or made to understand instead of taking any harsh action.

“First (there can be) enquiry, and then after enquiry, if the member is guilty, you can warn, if it is the first time, you can forgive, you can also warn….So, I request you not to pursue this matter further,” Kharge said.

John Brittas of the CPI(M) said the coverage of House proceedings by Rajya Sabha TV was one-sided, and Santanu Sen of the TMC termed the official broadcaster partial.

Jawhar Sircar (TMC) also called for ensuring a greater degree of fairness and education about parliamentary proceedings.

Allegations against Adani: Chhattisgarh Cong protests in front of LIC, SBI offices

    [ad_1]

Raipur: The ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh on Monday staged protests in front of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and State Bank of India (SBI) offices in all the district headquarters across the state in connection with the allegations against the Gautam Adani group and the resultant stock market upheaval.

Adani group stocks have taken a massive hit after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation. The group has dismissed the charges as lies.

Opposition parties have alleged the value of shares held in Adani group firms by LIC and leading lender SBI had eroded massively, which they claimed was a setback to taxpayers.

The protesters sought a joint parliamentary probe into the allegations against the Adani group as well as a white paper on the issue from the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government.

Addressing the gathering outside the Jai Stambh Chowk branch of SBI, Chhattisgarh Congress chief Mohan Markam said the allegations show LIC and SBI made “risky investments” in the Adani group.

The common man, who has been affected by the stock rout, needs to know who sanctioned such “disproportionate loans” from state entities to the group, Markam said.

BJP leader Sunil Jakhar, Cong MP Manish Tewari engage in war of words on Twitter

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: BJP leader Sunil Jakhar and Congress MP Manish Tewari on Monday engaged in a war of words after the former used an article written by Tewari on the Adani issue to term the grand old party a “divided house”.

Amid the ongoing Adani-Hindenburg row, Jakhar took a dig at Tewari and the Congress, which has showcaused its Patiala MP Preneet Kaur for alleged anti-party activities, saying if another notice was in the offing.

Tewari, the Anandpur Sahib MP, hit back alleging Jakhar “never tries to understand anything holistically and thus tilts at windmills”.

“Congress-a house divided ! While it blames Govt of collusion, its own Punjab MP, in an article, sees Hindenburg report as a geo-political conspiracy to sabotage India’s growing strategic prowess. Another show cause notice in offing, after one issued to Mrs Parneet Kaur?” tweeted Jakhar, a member of BJP’s national executive.

The Congress suspended Preneet Kaur on February 3 and had also asked her to explain why she should not be expelled for anti-party activities.

Kaur, the four-time MP from Patiala, is the wife of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, who joined the BJP after being ousted from the Congress.

Reacting to Jakhar, Tewari said, “Difficulty with my friend @sunilkjakhar is-he never tries to read/understand anything holistically & thus tilts at windmills In my article in @IndianExpress I have explicitly laid out Case for a JPC. He perhaps never served on one. A JPC looks at all aspects fairly.”

Jakhar replied to Tewari’s comment and said his tweet was aimed at the Congress.

“Sh. @ManishTewari is right that I haven’t grasped the meaning of his word-play. It’s because I’m not a Janus faced person with abilities of doublespeak. Anyway my tweet was aimed at INC. My erudite friend getting riled up shows a Freudian slip – if not a tilt,” tweeted Jakhar, who joined the BJP after quitting the Congress last year.

Tewari respond to Jakhar, saying, “Simple concepts like equity, fair play & impartiality when recommending a JPC probe are perhaps beyond feudal comprehension of my friend @sunilkjakhar not to talk of complex realities of financial markets & geo politics. Rest of his diatribe does not deserve dignity of a response.”

Modi, his govt cannot hide from questions saying ‘Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun’: Cong

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday stepped up its attack on the Centre over allegations against the Adani group, alleging that the Modi government’s “loud silence” over the issue “smacks of collusion”.

Adani group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation at the Gautam Adani-led group.

In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said that starting Sunday the Congress will pose three questions a day to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.

He said that amid the allegations against the Adani Group, the Modi government has maintained a “loud silence which smacks of collusion”.

Ramesh said that in a response to the Panama Papers expose on April 4, 2016, the Ministry of Finance had announced that Modi had personally directed a multi-agency investigative group to monitor financial flows to and from offshore tax havens.

“Subsequently, at the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China on 5 September 2016, you (Modi) stated: ‘We need to act to eliminate safe havens for economic offenders, track down and unconditionally extradite money launderers and break down the web of complex international regulations and excessive banking secrecy that hide the corrupt and their deeds’. This leads to some questions that you and your government cannot hide from saying ‘HAHK (Hum Adani Ke Hain Kaun)’,”

Posing questions, Ramesh said Vinod Adani, the brother of Gautam Adani, was named in the Panama Papers and the Pandora Papers as someone who operates offshore entities in the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands.

“He is alleged to have engaged in ‘brazen stock manipulation’ and ‘accounting fraud’ via ‘a vast labyrinth of offshore shell entities. You have spoken often about your sincerity and ‘niyat’ (intention) in fighting corruption and even subjected the nation to the heavy costs of demonetization,” Ramesh said.

“What does the fact that a business entity you are well acquainted with faces serious allegations tell us about the quality and sincerity of your investigations? the Congress general secretary said.

Ramesh alleged that over the years, PM Modi “misused” agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence to “intimidate” his political opponents and to “punish” business houses that do not fall in line with his “cronies’ financial interests”.

What action has been taken, if ever, to investigate the serious allegations made over the years against the Adani Group, he asked?

Ramesh also asked if there was any hope of a fair and impartial investigation in the matter under the prime minister.

“How is it possible that one of India’s largest business groups, one that has been allowed to build monopolies in airports and seaports, could have escaped serious scrutiny for so long despite persistent allegations?” Ramesh said.

Other business groups have been harassed and raided for much less, he alleged.

“Was the Adani Group essential to a dispensation that has profited from ‘anti-corruption’ rhetoric all of these years,” Ramesh asked?

Tagging his statement, the Congress leader tweeted, “The eloquent silence of the PM on the Adani MahaMegaScam has forced us to start a series, HAHK-Hum Adanike Hain Kaun. We will be posing 3 questions to the PM daily beginning today.” He asked the PM to break his “silence” over the issue.

The Congress also started a Twitter poll on its official Twitter handle, asking people whether the PM will get the allegations of fraud against “his friend Adani” investigated.

The Adani group has dismissed the charges as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.

The 10 listed Adani group firms have faced a combined erosion of over Rs 8.5 lakh crore in just six trading sessions. Adani Enterprises also had to withdraw a Rs 20,000 crore share sale.

In her statement on the issue, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said on Saturday that India’s economic image is not affected due to Adani Group’s recent decision to pull out Rs 20,000 crore FPO amid allegations of financial wrongdoings.

The finance minister said there has been an accretion of USD 8 billion to the forex reserves in the last two days alone.

“…our macroeconomic fundamentals or our economy’s image, none of which has been affected. Yes, FPOs (follow-on public offers) come in, and FIIs (foreign institutional investors) get out,” Sitharaman told reporters here.

The minister said there are “fluctuations” in every market but the accretion over the last few days establishes the fact that the perception of both India and its inherent strengths is intact.

New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday said that it will ask three questions a day related to Adani issue to the Prime Minister. The Congress said that after Panama Papers leak no action was taken despite assurance from the Prime Minister.

  • Cong or Third Front? Nitish plays his cards close to his chest for 2024

Cong or Third Front? Nitish plays his cards close to his chest for 2024

    [ad_1]

Patna: Despite the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the opposition leaders in Bihar are not revealing their cards to either go with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi or the possible third front that Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is trying to form for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Bihar has a coalition government of seven parties headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar including deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD and supported by the Congress, the Left, and Hindustani Awam Morcha.

Nitish Kumar admits that challenging the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2024 would not be possible without Congress. Still, he is not completely sure about the leadership qualities of Rahul Gandhi despite the good response to the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He has also decided to send senior leader Lalan Singh to Telangana for the opening of the new Secretariat building and is trying to keep both options open. Nitish Kumar earlier advocated an all-parties meeting to prepare a common plan to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

At present, KCR is giving an impression of a non-BJP, non-Congress regional parties alliance to strengthen their position in their states. The idea is to make their bargaining position stronger with the Congress party post the Lok Sabha polls in 2024. Nitish Kumar probably does not agree with this formula as the chances of a division of votes are strong and the BJP will take advantage of it. Hence, Kumar is taking a balanced approach at present.

He is sending Lalan Singh as his representative to Hyderabad to keep the option open for a third front and is also waiting for the response of the Congress after the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Telangana chief minister’s office has also confirmed that Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav is also coming to Hyderabad on February 17 for the inauguration of the new Secretariat building.

After the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar, Nitish Kumar had taken the initiative to unite the opposition parties. He visited Delhi and met leaders of the opposition parties including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. At that time, these two leaders had not given a robust response to Nitish Kumar. Even the photographs of Sonia Gandhi with Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav were not put in the public domain.

This could be the reason why Nitish Kumar and Tejashwi Yadav were invited by the Congress party to participate in the flag hoisting ceremony at Lal Chowk in Srinagar after the conclusion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra but these two leaders neither went there nor sent their representatives.

For the RJD, as it is part of the seven parties alliance, the political interests of Tejashwi Yadav are intertwined with Nitish Kumar. The RJD is considered very close to the Congress party and Sonia Gandhi and it will be interesting to see the developments when Lalu Prasad returns to Patna.

RJD national vice-president Shivanand Tiwari said: “There is no doubt that the Bharat Jodo Yatra is a big success for Rahul Gandhi as well as the Congress party. They are now thinking that the Congress would become a serious option against the BJP. Rahul Gandhi, through Bharat Jodo Yatra, managed to shed his “Pappu image” foisted by the BJP.”

Tiwari continued: “The people of the country are considering Rahul Gandhi as a serious leader but he himself and the Congress party are showing arrogance as well. Rahul Gandhi has said the thinking of regional parties would not become national. He has also taken the name of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Congress senior leader Jairam Ramesh said that the fulcrum of the opposition parties will be Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. These statements have sent out the wrong signals to the regional parties.”

The RJD leader noted that the “Congress is a national party in the country but it has to give respect to regional parties as well. If you comment like this, why would regional parties go to Srinagar? You have to respect the regional parties as well and bring them on one platform. The Congress has to understand why regional parties emerged in the states.”

“There was a provision of reservation for OBCs in the Kelkar committee report in 1953 but the Congress party has not implemented it. Even in 1989, former PM Rajiv Gandhi spoke against the Mandal commission and then Vishwanath Pratap Singh had promised the Mandal commission implementation if he became the PM of the country. Then regional parties emerged in the country.”

He concluded by saying: “The regional parties are demanding respect in their own state where they are in a strong position. They do not want seats in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and other states. In the last 2020 assembly election in Bihar, the Congress had contested on 70 seats and won only 19. PM Narendra Modi was doing three rallies in a day and Rahul Gandhi did only two. This was an indication of how serious you were.”

Ajit Sharma, Congress CLP leader in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha, told IANS: “The Congress party has only one motive and that is to unite the opposition parties in the country. Rahul Gandhi has got success through the Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Congress had invited leaders of the opposition parties to Srinagar but who came and who did not is a different thing. The regional parties may have their own political compulsions and hence they stayed away from it.”

Sharma added: “The core issue in the country is price rise, unemployment, farmers issues which need to be addressed. The BJP is failing on these. PM Narendra Modi had promised two crore jobs every year and Rs 15 lakh cash in the bank account of every individual, where are those promises. Compare the current inflation with the UPA government. The Congress party believes in people centric policies.”

Madan Mohan Jha, MLC and former state president of the Congress told IANS: “The party always thinks about uniting the opposition parties and it is doing it. As far as the Bharat Jodo Yatra is concerned, it was not a political Yatra of the Congress party.”

“The BJP has created differences in the society and the Yatra was to unite the people of the country. So, those who are having an anti-BJP ideology, will come together in the future. The Congress party will also take the initiative as well.”

Commenting on the matter, RJD national spokesperson Mritunjay Tiwari said: “Nitish Kumar is currently busy in the Samadhan Yatra and he has a pre-scheduled programme. Tejashwi Yadav has loads of work in Bihar. Hence, they did not go to Lal Chowk in Srinagar.”

“The idea is to unite all opposition parties against the BJP. KCR is making efforts and so is Rahul Gandhi. The actual aim is to stop the BJP from coming back to power in 2024.”

Nikhil Anand, national general secretary of the BJP’s OBC wing and one of the party’s national spokespersons, said: “Rahul Gandhi has completed his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ which is basically a ‘Congress Jodo Yatra’, through which he wants to have larger acceptance among his partymen. The key opposition leaders have avoided joining his Yatra because they all know that if he had enough leadership talent and quality, why did he run away from accepting the Congress president’s post?”

Continuing with his criticism, Anand added: “The other reason is that every opposition leader wants the other to come under their umbrella but no one is ready to follow suit and stand behind the other. The opposition leaders are now like many fused bulbs, who can’t match the magical light of PM Modi even if they are collected together. There is no match to the charismatic leadership of Narendra Modi in India.”

Karnataka: Cong files complaint against impersonation of official website

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police station against unidentified miscreants who created a website allegedly impersonating the official website of the Congress party.

Through the fake website, false and defamatory messages are being circulated, the complaint said.

The Congress said that the ‘illegitimate’ website is disseminating inaccurate, defamatory, and damaging information which is affecting the image of the KPCC.

The portal pretending to be the official website of the state Congress is powered by Midnight Digital Private Limited, a digital marketing platform that is supposedly based out of Gujarat.

This website is causing severe harm to the image and reputation of the party and its leaders besides causing confusion among the public, the complaint said.

The website is not authorized by the party and it is using the official name, address, and logo of the Congress without its permission, it added.

“The content published on the website is false and defamatory in nature and is intended to malign the image of the party and its leaders,” the complaint stated.

“This constitutes an offense under IPC Section 499 which deals with defamation and Section 505 for dissemination of false information. I request you to take stringent action against the miscreants who have created the illegitimate website and are spreading false content.

“The website should be taken down immediately, and the people behind it should be identified and brought to justice,” said A.S. Ponnanna, senior advocate and Chairman of the Legal Human Rights and RTI Department.

Cong seeks Kejriwal’s resignation after ED charge sheet against him in liquor scam

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday demanded that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should resign as it said he has no moral right to be in office as the Enforcement Directorate has ‘clearly indicted’ him in the excise scam.

Congress leader and former Union minister Ajay Maken said a Rs 100 crore kickback has been established against Kejriwal and his ministers in the scam, and a PMLA court took cognizance of the charge sheet on Thursday and allowed that charges be framed against all the accused.

“The Indian National Congress demands the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with the indicted ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain,” Maken told reporters here, adding that they have no moral right to continue in office.

He said the money trail has also been mentioned in the charge sheet, leading to advertisements in Goa elections and cash payments to volunteers to carry out surveys.

Maken said a DANICS officer has claimed that the GOM report for a 12 percent margin for wholesalers of liquor trade was handed over to him at Kejriwal’s residence, where Sisodia and Jain were also present.

It is alleged that this report was handed over to him without any discussions, he claimed.

“From this 12 percent margin to the wholesalers, 6 percent is alleged to be paid back as a kickback,” Maken claimed.

He also alleged that the concessions by the Kejriwal government to liquor traders further caused loss to the exchequer, which include Rs 144.36 crore waived off from liquor license fee on account of COVID-19.

Besides, he said Rs 30 crore EMD (earnest money deposit) for Airport L-1 was returned and margin of profits increased from 5 to 12 percent. Still, a 10 percent enhancement from the licensee was not charged, he said.

The former Delhi Congress chief also said, “Delhi asks Kejriwal… Where is Lokpal?”.

Maken said one sees a ‘Kejriwal versus Delhi L-G’ every day in special sessions of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, in courts, on streets, and on trivial issues.

“But have we ever seen Kejriwal or the AAP protesting for Lokpal? In 2014, Kejriwal asked for the dissolution of the Delhi Assembly in favor of passing the Lokpal Bill. Where is that Bill now?” he asked.

“The Kejriwal government has ensured that even a weak Lokayukta is non-functional in Delhi,” the Congress leader alleged.

He claimed that despite being approved by the Lieutenant Governor, annual reports of the Lokayukta have not been tabled in the House since 2017-18.

Despite being approved by the L-G, the Lokayukta faces huge constraints of manpower and functionaries, Maken said, adding that the key post of Director of Investigation in the office of Lokayukta has not been filled.

“Ever since Kejriwal came to power, the Lokayaukta, in its reports, has been flagging various debilitating constraints being faced by it in terms of its independence, lack of powers, compromised financial autonomy, or non-availability of any machinery for conducting investigations, but all in vain,” he told media.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed, in its supplementary charge sheet, filed in the court that a part of the alleged Rs 100 crore “kickbacks” generated in the scrapped Delhi excise policy was used in the AAP’s 2022 Goa assembly election campaign.

It has also claimed that a close aide of the Delhi chief minister arranged a video call through FaceTime (a video calling facility on iPhone) on his phone for one of the accused Sameer Mahandru.

In the call, Kejriwal told Mahandru that the aide is “his boy” and he should trust him and carry on with him, the ED has claimed.

Kejriwal has dismissed the charge sheet, alleging that cases filed by the agency are “fake” and are used to “topple” governments and buy MLAs at the behest of the Centre.

BJP-RSS playing with sentiments of Goa, Karnataka on Mhadei issue: Cong leader

Panaji: Stating that BJP and RSS is playing with sentiments of Goa and Karnataka (on Mhadei issue), the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Goa, Manickam Tagore, on Saturday said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should show courage to condemn remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Addressing a Press conference in Panaji, Manickam Tagore, who was appointed as Goa in-charge last month, said that for BJP more important is an election and for Congress rights of Goa people.

“BJP and RSS are not sensitive towards Goa’s rights, for them what is important are to win elections. They are playing politics with Karnataka and Goa,” he said, after holding, Political Affairs Committee meeting.

“Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should show courage to condemn remarks of Amit Shah, who has taken away the rights of people. Congress stands for Goa’s welfare and will be with the people. We will fight for the rights of the people,” he said.

“Congress has never created rifts between states. We have always dealt with such issues on an emotional level. BJP is doing this (creating rifts) to increase their seats in Karnataka during the Lok Sabha election. They are in a panic situation because they are losing seats there,” he said.

“Congress is making all preparations to come back to Goa in its original shape and we are rebuilding our organization. We want to win the hearts of people by winning both seats of Goa in the Lok Sabha election in 2024,” he said.

“I will be with Congress workers who are fighting against the corrupt BJP government led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant,” he said.

He said that Congress in Goa is building new leadership by respecting also ‘old’ (senior) leadership. “With the blessings of seniors, we will build Congress again,” he said.

During a rally in Belagavi on January 28, Shah said: “Sonia Gandhi during a speech in Goa in the year 2007 said that the Congress government will not allow Mhadei water diversion to Karnataka. In 2022, Congress in their manifesto stated that Karnataka will not get a single drop of water from Mhadei. Today, I am here to tell you that the BJP at the Centre has resolved the long dispute between Goa and Karnataka over Mhadei and allowed the diversion of Mhadei to Karnataka to satisfy the thirst of farmers of many districts.”
