KCR confident of BRS hat-trick in Telangana with over 100 seats

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday exuded confidence that the party will retain power in the state by winning more than 100 seats in 119-member Assembly.

Addressing the general body meeting to mark party’s formation day, he said the BRS would score a hat-trick in the Assembly elections scheduled later this year.

“BRS won 63 seats in the first assembly election and 88 seats in the second assembly election. The BRS party will win more than 100 in the next election,” he said.

“Coming to power again in Telangana is not a big task. The priority is to win more seats than before,” he told the participants including ministers, MPs and state legislators.

KCR said two leaders should also take responsibility from the government in every assembly constituency. He called for connecting with people through programmes like Palle Nidra (Night halt in villages).

He said Zilla Parishad chairpersons, MPs and district in-charges should play the role of in-charges in the assembly constituencies where the BRS legislators are not available. The process should be completed within 3 to 4 months.

The BRS pulled up some MLAs over complaints against them. He warned them that if they didn’t mend their ways, they would be expelled from the party.

He asked the party leaders to take steps to reduce discontent among the cadre. He also wanted them to educate people about the government schemes, interact with them and mingle with them regularly.

The BRS chief said that the party will reach out to masses through producing TV ads and films. He said if necessary, the party will also run a TV channel.

Stating that in some villages, government lands are lying idle, he asked the party leaders to submit the details of such lands with survey numbers to his office. Suitable lands will be distributed to the poor to construct the houses immediately.

KCR recalled the formation of TRS to realise the dream of Telangana people and explained its evolution as a national party BRS to fulfil the aspiration of the people of the country.

“The achievement of Telangana state proved to the country that anything can be achieved in a parliamentary way. Now, we are moving ahead to keep the country on the path of progress with a slogan of Aab Ki Bar Kisan Sarkar,” he said.

Referring to losses suffered by farmers due to untimely reasons, he said the agriculture department should sensitise the farmers to complete harvesting before the unseasonal rains.

He announced that the government will purchase all crops including maize and sorghum like in the past.

KCR said that the state government is implementing an action plan to sustain agriculture and the welfare of farmers.

He listed out the achievements made by Telangana during the last nine years. The CM claimed that investments are flooding the state.

He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh’s per capita income of Rs 2,19,518 is Rs 1,00,000 less than Telangana’s per capita income. The per capita income of 16 to 17 states is much less than this.

The state registered surprising growth in every sector like electricity, roads, paddy procurement, agriculture, livestock, fisheries.

KCR said that Telangana also tops in per capita electricity consumption.

He slammed the Maharashtra government saying it has no vision.

“Maharashtra government says that it will go bankrupt if it implements Telangana schemes. The Telangana state implemented the schemes successfully without going bankrupt,” he said and claimed that people of Maharashtra are visiting Telangana to see the progress of the state.

Confident of winning more than halfway mark in Karnataka polls: Shah

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Home Minister Amit Shah expressed confidence on Saturday that the BJP will win 15-20 seats more than the halfway mark in Karnataka assembly polls and asserted that its support base remains intact despite defection by some party leaders, noting that historically its rebels have not won and “this will prove true this time also”.

With the Congress targeting the central government over Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha following his conviction in a defamation case, Shah told India Today in an interview that “no family is above the law in India and the law is above all”.

Gandhi vacated his government bungalow on Saturday after he was served a notice for eviction and claimed that he is paying the price for speaking the truth.

    MS Education Academy

Replying to a question on Gandhi playing “victim”, he said, “We never asked Rahul Gandhi to disrespect the OBC community. He himself decided not to apologise.

“The law under which he was convicted was made by the Congress government. Then prime minister Manmohan Singh tried to withdraw that law but Rahul Gandhi himself tore down the ordinance. Now he should not play the victim. No one should think that any family is above the law.” The ordinance, if passed by Parliament, would have spared any convicted MP from immediate disqualification.

To a question about the allegation that the CBI summoning former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik is linked to his recent criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, the home minister said such a charge is not true as he was called by the probe agency earlier too.

“I can say with complete conviction that the BJP has done nothing that needs to be covered up. If someone is levelling allegations after parting ways with us, then it should be evaluated accordingly by the media and people,” he said.

On Karnataka assembly polls scheduled for May 10, he said the BJP will get 15-20 seats more than the halfway mark of 112 seats in the 224-member legislature.

They are not substantiated by any court and have been fabricated by the Congress to cover up corruption during its own regime, Shah claimed, accusing the opposition party of using Karnataka as its “ATM” when it was in power.

The Congress has no answers to its apathy towards Karnataka during its regime, he said, adding that when the Congress-led UPA was in power during 2009-14, the Centre released Rs 94,224 crores to the state.

Prime Minister Modi increased the amount to over Rs 2.26 lakh crore during 2014-19. The tax devolution and grant-in aid was Rs 22,000 crore but has been increased to Rs 75,000 crore, he added.

Attacking Congress, he said its government violated the Constitution by providing four per cent reservation for Muslims in the state.

The Constitution does not allow any kind of reservation on the basis of religious identity, he noted.

The BJP government has scrapped this reservation and increased the quota for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Vokkaligas and Lingayats, he said.

While the Congress “protected and nurtured” the PFI, a radical Islamic organisation now banned by the Modi government, he said its cadres used to commit murders in broad daylight in the state.

PM Modi banned it and provided security to the people of the state, he said.

On the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “We will give a befitting reply to any attack on India.” He added that violence against the foreign embassies of India will not be taken lightly by the Modi government.

On the “personal attacks” launched on Modi, he said, “Personal attacks on Modi ji are not new and began long back by Sonia Gandhi who had called him ‘Maut Ka Saudagar’. But whenever he faced such attacks he emerged stronger”.

  • Senate Dems confident they can repeal Iraq war authorizations — despite absences

Senate Dems confident they can repeal Iraq war authorizations — despite absences

    [ad_1]

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), who sponsored the measure along with Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), was still confident Tuesday that the measure would pass.

“We feel like we’re gonna have well north of 60 votes,” he said in a brief interview.

On its face, the math looks good for the legislation, with 12 Republicans backing the bill — enough to hit the necessary 60 votes, provided Democrats hang together. Plus, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has indicated he plans to join the group to support the bill, although he is not a cosponsor. A senior GOP aide said Republicans who are supporting the legislation are confident that it will pass, despite the absences.

“I think after 22 years, it’s about time that we look at our engagements, not based on some 20-year-law, but on current certain situations, and I think we’re way beyond what we needed for Iraq,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a co-sponsor of the legislation.

The measure itself is just two pages and is largely symbolic, though proponents argue it represents a formal reassertion by Congress of its ability to declare — and end — military conflicts.

“This is the week the Senate will begin the process to end the legal authority for the Iraq war two decades ago,” Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor. “Every year we keep them on the books, it’s another chance for future administrations to abuse or misuse them.”

McConnell, who is currently in a rehab facility after a fall last week that left him hospitalized for a few days and with a concussion and is not expected to return to the Senate this week, has opposed repealing the war authorizations in the past.

And he’s far from the only Republican who’s against the measure. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a former member of Senate GOP leadership, pronounced himself skeptical of the push.

“I don’t know what they’re afraid of,” Cornyn said. “They think that Joe Biden is going to abuse the AUMF?”

House lawmakers in June 2021 voted to repeal the 2002 war authorization on a bipartisan 268-161 vote — with 49 Republicans joining all but one Democrat in support. The measure was not taken up by the Senate.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has twice voted in the past three years to repeal both authorizations on a bipartisan basis, most recently by a 13-8 vote earlier this month.

Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office did not respond to a request on whether the House plans to take up the legislation.

    trump impeachment 41587

The federal government’s response to the implosion of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank has unleashed a chorus of complaints from GOP politicians who claim that authorities failed to take steps to prevent the failures — the largest since the global financial crisis. The potential for panic at other banks forced the agencies to roll out a rescue plan Sunday night so that thousands of business customers would have access to all their money on Monday — guaranteeing deposits above the established deposit insurance limit of $250,000.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the top Republican on the Senate Banking Committee, cautioned shortly after the plans were announced that the U.S. risked building “a culture of government intervention” for risky financial institutions. Other GOP lawmakers like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri — along with presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy — blasted the federal government’s backstopping of uninsured deposits as a safety net for institutions that were overly focused on sustainable investment goals like climate change.

Rep. Maxine Waters of California, the Financial Services Committee’s top Democrat, said in an interview Monday that she wanted to schedule a hearing on Silicon Valley Bank “as soon as possible.” But McHenry declined to commit.

“As the chair of the committee I’ll make those decisions in the coming days,” he said.

For now, McHenry said his focus was on organizing lawmaker briefings with the administration.

“This is day-by-day,” McHenry said. “I lived as a member of Congress during the financial crisis and so ensuring accurate and adequate and quick information in a dynamic situation is difficult. But we’re trying our best and I know the agencies and the administration are as well.”

Federal authorities were scheduled to brief members of House Financial Services at 6 p.m. Monday. McHenry and Financial Services vice chair French Hill (R-Ark.) will join House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to brief House Republicans at 8 p.m. Monday.

  • Employees in Saudi, UAE confident of job opportunities in 2023

Employees in Saudi, UAE confident of job opportunities in 2023

    [ad_1]

The majority of the employees in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) show confidence in obtaining new job opportunities inside or outside their company, that offers flexibility and a higher salary, a survey by LinkedIn has found.

The findings, which were released on Tuesday, noted that 68 per cent of employees in the Saudi Arabia and 74 per cent in UAE are confident in securing new job role despite the slowing hiring levels across Europe and the Middle East in 2022 compared to 2021.

Only 10 per cent of workers in the UAE and 11 per cent in the Saudi said they lacked the confidence to find a new job this year, according to LinkedIn, which polled 22,985 workers from countries including the US, UK, Germany, India, Singapore, the UAE and Saudi Arabia between December 9 and 19.

Almost 7 in 10 workers in the UAE and Saudi are confident about pushing for a pay raise. Despite the increase in confidence to grow their current role, 77 per cent of UAE employees and 73 per cent of Saudi employees are considering changing their jobs in 2023.

Top reasons for job switch in Saudi

    • Better work-life balance 28 per cent
    • Confidence in ability to land better role 28 per cent

Top reasons for job switch in UAE

    • Better work-life balance 34 per cent
    • Confidence in ability to land better role 31 per cent

The increased willingness to change employers is highest among millennials, who show 15 per cent more confidence in their job search, interviewing, and ability to secure new and better jobs in 2023 compared to their younger colleagues, LinkedIn said.

This is attributed to the fact that about 80 per cent of the millennial age group — typically those born between 1980 and 1995 — feel a lack of investment from their employer, as well as feeling undervalued, unmotivated, and underpaid.

Generation Z employees — those under the age of 25 — report being very concerned about job security because they worry that their employers haven’t handled the current economic uncertainty very well.

The survey reveals that while many workers feel more confident about their career prospects, concerns about job security and a preference for remote working options remain prevalent.

Six in ten workers surveyed said they would decline new office-based job offers in favor of hybrid or remote work.
