Mumbai: For Apple CEO Tim Cook, seeing a 1984 Macintosh Classic machine as he launched India’s first Apple store in Mumbai was a cute surprise.
He could not stop his amusement after Sajid Moinuddin, a designer by profession and a Goregaon resident, came with an old Macintosh computer to see him at the inauguration of Apple BKC here.
Cook was elated to see the old Apple machine at the event and signed an autograph on it.
The Apple CEO, in India after a gap of seven years, also signed an unopened iPod for another Apple fan at the retail store.
“The energy, creativity, and passion in Mumbai is incredible! We are so excited to open Apple BKC,” Cook tweeted after opening the store amid the beats of Nashik dhols, greeting the first customers with handshakes and selfies.
The new Apple flagship retail stores in Mumbai, followed by one in New Delhi and backed by aggressive sales initiatives, will fuel Apple’s growth in the year ahead.
Apple BKC is designed to be one of the most energy-efficient Apple Store locations in the world, with a dedicated solar array and zero reliance on fossil fuels for store operations.
Southwest blamed the problem on “data connection issues resulting from a firewall failure,” according to a statement.
“Early this morning, a vendor-supplied firewall went down and connection to some operational data was unexpectedly lost. Southwest Teams worked quickly to minimize flight disruptions,” the airline said.
DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has pressed airlines to ensure customers receive adequate refunds after flight disruptions, said in a tweet that “We are here to ensure passengers have strong protections when airline failures like this affect their plans,” and directed affected Southwest customers to DOT’s Airline Customer Service Dashboard.
Background: Though so far there’s no indication that Tuesday’s glitch was related to problems with the airline’s internal scheduling software that caused the holiday flight havoc late last year, Southwest continues to face scrutiny for how it handled those flights.
In February, Southwest COO Andrew Watterson apologized to Congress for the holiday meltdown that was triggered by winter weather but dragged on for nearly a week due to issues with the airline’s scheduling and rebooking systems. Watterson in February promised his airline is now “intensely focused on learning from this event by taking immediate mitigation efforts.”
But the top Senate Democrat overseeing the aviation industry, Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) charged that Southwest withheld information from Congress about how it’s handling refunds for customers caught up in its December holiday meltdown, where some 16,000 flights were canceled. Cantwell is seeking specifics on how many passengers were involved, how many were issued cash refunds versus vouchers for future flights, how many were rebooked and when the airline plans to upgrade its internal systems that caused the debacle.
Earlier this month, Southwest released the results of a report detailing failings surrounding the end-of-year meltdown. The report, which was also conducted by an outside consulting firm hired by Southwest, said that “insufficient winter infrastructure” and computer software issues with rescheduling and rebooking passengers and crew were mostly to blame. The airline said a host of steps to improve winter operations will be complete by next winter, while software upgrades are already in place or will be completed by next winter.

Mac Isaac claims the laptop and external hard drive became his property in 2019 when Biden didn’t retrieve the items within 90 days after leaving them at the shop, which attorneys for Biden are challenging. The repair shop owner claims Biden defamed him by saying he had illegally accessed the data.
Attorneys for Biden claimed that Mac Isaac did not act responsibly with the data found on the laptop and hard drive.
”Reputable computer companies and repair people routinely delete personal data contained on devices that are exchanged, left behind or abandoned,” the filing reads. ”They do not open, copy, and then provide that data to others, as Mac Isaac did here.”
Mac Isaac turned the laptop and external hard drive over to the FBI in 2019 and attempted to share the information from the devices with former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani.
Biden’s lawyers are also seeking depositions from Steve Bannon and Giuliani in the suit.
Biden doesn’t confirm in the filing that the laptop is his. “Mr. Biden is without knowledge sufficient to admit or deny the allegations,” the filing states.
The data from the laptop became a point of interest after stories were published by the New York Post before the 2020 election.
POLITICO has not authenticated the Biden hard drive files that underpinned an October 2020 New York Post story, but POLITICO reporter Ben Schreckinger confirmed the authenticity of some emails on the drive in a 2021 book.
Last year, Mac Isaac sued POLITICO, CNN, Hunter Biden, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and the Biden presidential campaign committee for defamation and civil conspiracy in state court in Delaware. Earlier this month, the federal government stepped in for Schiff and removed the case to federal court in Wilmington, arguing that the suit pertains to acts he took in his official capacity as a member of Congress.
Friday’s filing comes as Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chair of the House Oversight Committee, prepares an investigation into Biden. The suit is also part of a broader campaign of legal pushback from Biden’s attorneys, warning those involved in publicizing assertions about his laptop computer that they could face unspecified litigation over their claims.
The Justice Department is reported to be in the final stages of deciding whether to bring criminal charges against Hunter Biden in connection with alleged tax offenses and his alleged failure to disclose his status as a drug user when applying to buy a handgun in 2018.
