SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Saturday impressed upon the officers of the Srinagar Smart City Ltd (SSCL) including the District and Divisional Administration to enhance necessary resources on all the sites where work is going on so that all identified works are completed by mid of this month.
The meeting was attended by the Principal Secretary, PDD; Principal Secretary, PWD; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Secretary, Tourism; Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; Commissioner, SMC/JMC; VC, LCMA; Chief Engineers of PWD and KPDCL besides other concerned officers.
Dr Mehta, while taking stock of works going on under SSCL, exhorted the executing agencies to utilize the time very efficiently and continue working in double shifts to successfully complete the projects on time.
He advised the officials to keep a track of weather reports for the upcoming week. He even advised them to provide the laborers working on sites with the necessary facilities so that they are able to work during inclement weather conditions.
The Chief Secretary urged the executing agencies to monitor the works round the clock for quality work and ensure their timely completion. He asked them to remove the debris at all the completed sites for ease of people and prepare for dedicating them to the public at the earliest.
Taking work wise review he asked the Divisional Administration to make sure that aesthetics is maintained in all areas.
The Chief Secretary also took note of works to be done at Rambagh, Flood spill Channel, Lalla Ded Crossing, River front development, Cycle track construction, walkways improvement, Polo View, Gupkar Precinct, Ram Munshibagh Park, Development of Gupkar Road including that of works at Nishat and enroute SKICC. He asked them to complete all of these works before 15th of this month. He also enquired about the status of works to be taken in hand at TRC and Parimpora market.
The Chief Secretary directed the concerned to make all the fountains including new ones functional in the Dal Lake. He also asked them to lit up the street lights along the Dal shore line and make all the installed light clusters functional for overall beautification of the area being the most visited place by the tourists on visit to the city.

He asked VC, LCMA to start water sports activities at Dal Lake besides installation of jetty inside it. He also asked them to complete the designated works at ‘Char Chinar’ and ‘Panch Chinar’ for making them attractive for visitors. He told them that both these destinations have a good potential to attract the visitors thereby offering more opportunities to Shikara wallas and other traders there.
The Chief Secretary was informed that all the works are going on at a satisfactory pace and most of them would be completed by 15th of this month. He was also informed that around 125 works are going on under this Smart City Mission here. It was revealed that out of Rs 321.40 Cr released to SSCL the fund expenditure stands more than 92% and immediately after receiving the next tranche of funds from the UT the Corporation would receive more funds from the Central Government for taking up more works under the Mission adding better infrastructure and avenues to the summer capital of the UT.

All Five Medical Colleges, AHs To Be Completed By Year End: CS

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Friday said that all the five medical colleges approved during phase one and the Associate Hospitals(AHs) shall be completed before the end of the financial year.
He was speaking while reviewing the progress of works on all the newly established Medical Colleges across JK besides the ongoing work on the two All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) being established at Vijaypur (Jammu) and Awantipora (Kashmir).
Dr Mehta said that all five Medical colleges approved during phase one shall be completed before the end of the financial year.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Health; MD, JKPCC; Chief Engineers of PWD Kashmir/Jammu besides other concerned officers.
It was impressed upon all concerned to complete all the pending works of colleges such as Academic, Administrative, and Hostel Blocks by June this year and finish works of all Associated Hospitals (AHs) by the year-end. It was emphasized that the academic and medical activities at these colleges should not get affected in any way.
The progress of two new Medical Colleges being established at Udhampur and Handwara (Kupwara) was also discussed.
The meeting was informed that the Academic, Administrative, and Hostel blocks at all the earlier sanctioned five Medical Colleges are nearing completion and only a few minor works are under progress to be completed at the earliest. It was further added that the work on Udhampur College has been taken in hand recently and the tenders for Handwara College have been opened and the contract would be awarded soon.
Moreover, it was informed that with the operationalization of these five New Medical Colleges in Phase-I, the intake capacity of MBBS seats in the UT has increased from 500 to 1100 seats annually. The intake capacity is expected to further increase to 1300 MBBS seats this year with the start of the academic session in GMC Udhampur and Handwara sanctioned under Phase-III of Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Establishment of Medical Colleges. The Letter of Permission (LoP) has been received in favour of GMC Udhampur and Handwara for 100 MBBS seats each recently from the National Medical Commission. Additionally, two new AIIMS at Vijaypur and Awantipora shall add another 200 MBBS seats.

The meeting further deliberated upon the status of two AIIMS level Hospitals being established at Vijaypur (Samba) and Awantipora (Pulwama). It was said that the AIIMS, Vijaypur is all set to be dedicated to the public by October this year and AIIMS, Awantipora by 2025 after 34 more acres of land were provided to the institute for its updated design.
It is pertinent to mention here that the medical infrastructure and education have been given a major push during the past couple of years.
Two AIIMS-level Institutions, seven new Nursing Colleges shall also be set up across the UT. Further, the District and Sub-District Hospitals are given being given adequate manpower in addition to other infrastructure required for providing quality health care to the public.

J-K Rail Project: Country’s First Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge In Reasi Completed

Jammu, Apr 29: The work on the country’s first cable-stayed railway bridge at Anji Khad in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir has been completed, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
The completion of the bridge drew praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is keenly monitoring the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL), which will provide rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.
“In 11 months, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge (Anji Khad) is ready…,” Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted on Friday, sharing a video of the completed bridge. The total length of the cable strand used in the bridge is 653 km.
Reacting to Vaishnaw’s tweet, the prime minister wrote “excellent”.
The completion of Anji Khad bridge, having a single pylon with a height of 331 metres above the river bed on Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), is yet another major breakthrough achieved by the Indian Railways, which is expecting to complete the Rs 37,000 crore project by the end of this year.
Minister of State for Railways Darshana Vikram Jardosh, who recently inspected the USBRL project by visiting various key locations including Anji Khad bridge and the nearby iconic Chenab bridge, termed the completion of the country’s first cable-stayed bridge as “another milestone” despite difficult geographic conditions.
“I visited the bridge site and congratulated everyone for successfully installing all 96 cables of the bridge in a record time of 11 months. This asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge crosses the deep gorges of Anji river, a tributary of river Chenab,” she said.
Jardosh said the bridge connects tunnel T2 on the Katra side and Tunnel T3 on the Reasi side.

“It has been the PM’s vision to make Indian railways the best in the world. Overcoming geographic and climatic challenges, our engineers and railway officials have conquered the invincible,” the minister said.
Described as a “true engineering marvel”, the bridge has 48 cables each on lateral and central spans with work on its pylon started in 2017, officials said, adding the pylon is standing 191 metre from its foundation level.
They said It is the second highest railway bridge after the iconic arch bridge over Chenab at Kauri, which is the highest railway bridge in the world being 359 metres above the river bed level — 35 metres higher than the iconic Eiffel tower in Paris.
Anji Khad bridge has a total length of 473.25 metres, while the length of the viaduct is 120 metres. The central embankment has a length of 94.25 meters, the officials said.
They said the bridge has been designed to handle heavy storms of strong winds and even explosions.
In October 2016, the Railways decided to build a cable-stayed bridge at Anji Khad after the plan to build an arch bridge similar to Chenab bridge was abandoned due to vulnerability of the structure, primarily due to concerns over geological stability of the region.
The Railway Ministry sanctioned the construction of the railway line from Udhampur to Baramulla via Srinagar in phases — 25-km Udhampur to Katra in 1994, 118-km Qazigund to Baramulla and 129-km Katra to Qazigund in 1999.
In view of the importance of the USBRL in providing seamless and hassle-free connectivity to Kashmir, the 272-km-long rail link was declared as a “National Project” in 2002.
Out of the total 272-km USBRL project, 161-km was commissioned in phases with first phase 118-km Qazigund-Baramulla section commissioned in October 2009, followed by 18-km Banihal-Qazigund in June 2013 and 25-km Udhampur-Katra in July 2014. The work on 111-km Katra-Banihal stretch is going on.–(PTI)

All Smart City Projects To Be Completed Soon: CEO Smart City Limited

SRINAGAR: CEO Srinagar Smart City Limited, Athar Aamir Khan on Tuesday said that the works going on in Srinagar City will be completed well before the G-20 summit.
“Many projects have been prioritized for the G-20 summit and almost all of these projects are about to complete. There are different timelines for different projects and the government is trying to ensure that the projects are completed well before the G-20 summit,” CEO Srinagar Smart City Limited told reporters.
Athar Aamir Khan said that the people are facing inconvenience as the roads are under construction. “We are trying to complete the projects at earliest. The macadamisation process has also been started and the Residency Road and MA Road to be macadamized later tonight,” he said.
He further said that the works going on at Polo View and other areas are also at the final stage.
“Work on some other projects in Dalgate-Gojawara, Old City areas like Malaratta, Nowhatta, Bohri Kadal, Zaina Kadal has been started and it is being ensured that the work is completed soon,” he said.

Work On Banihal Bypass To Be Completed By End Of Current Financial Year: Centre

SRINAGAR: The Centre on Wednesday said that work of rehabilitation, strengthening and four-laning of Banihal bypass has been taken up and is targeted to be completed by the end of current financial year.
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, informed the Rajya Sabha that initially the project was delayed due to non-availability of land primarily on account of litigations.
He said now acquisition of land has been completed and work has been re-awarded as EPC contract.
He also said that detailed geological and geotechnical investigations have been conducted at the time of preparation of DPR for tunnels being constructed on NH-44.

Construction of Ayodhya Ram temple likely to be completed months before deadline: Officials

Ayodhya: The construction of the Ram temple here is likely to be completed months before the deadline, an office bearer of the Sriram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said on Friday.
“We are confident that the temple will be completed three months before the due date. So we have advanced the deadline from December 2023 to September 2023. Now, the temple will get it’s final shape in September,” in-charge of trust’s office at Ram Janambhoomi Prakash Gupta said.
“The sanctum sanctorum of the temple of Lord Rama will be octagonal and the temple is now taking shape. About 75 per cent of the work of the first phase of the temple has been completed. Now, only 167 pillars are left to be installed in the temple. The construction of the roof will also start by May-June,” he said.
The new pictures of temple which were made public by the trust on Friday show that all the pillars in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple have been erected. Twenty-four of the 32 stairs to reach the sanctum sanctorum have been built
Trust member Dr Anil Mishra said, “The construction work of the temple is progressing ahead of schedule. Soon the work of laying the beams of the sanctum sanctorum will begin.”
“The work of carving about 200 beams of the roof of the Ram temple has been done,” he said. PTI COR CDN

AP: Nellore railway station upgradation to be completed by May 2024

Hyderabad: Nellore railway station upgradation works were initiated under the “Major Upgradation of Railway Stations” project of the Indian Railways and are set to complete by May, 2024.
South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain said, “The upgradation works which have commenced at Nellore station are being taken up in a planned and phased manner so that there is no hindrance to the passengers”.
He said that the upgradation work will give an aesthetic look to the station with modern amenities for providing a seamless experience to the rail users.
An aesthetic design of the new station building has been prepared and proof-checked by IIT-Madras, to give it a modern outlook. The project is set to provide world-class amenities with elegant features to Nellore station.
The station is situated in the Grand Trunk route and in one of the important cities in Andhra Pradesh. Keeping in mind the steadily increasing footfall of the station, works have been planned to meet future passenger requirements.
The upgradation works have been awarded under Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode to SCL Infratech Ltd.
Site offices, a concrete testing lab, and storage sheds have been set up. Construction of temporary sheds for the functioning of the Railway Court and Government Railway Police offices is completed and handed over to respective departments. The construction of a permanent court building is in progress.
Additional extensions are also being constructed on both sides of the station, to meet future passenger requirements.

Excavation work for concreting of foundations of the east-side station building has been completed. For the extension work on the west side, the old structures have been dismantled and excavation work has been completed.
The new station building will have a full cover over platforms ensuring protection in all seasons to the passengers. The Cover-Over-Platforms work has been completed on some platforms while the fabrication is in progress.
Ground Level Reservoir, with 6 lakh litres capacity, excavation and foundation concreting works are completed.

Excavation of Khellani tunnel’s 1st tube in Doda completed before deadline

DODA/JAMMU: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) has completed the excavation of the first tube of the strategic Khellani tunnel along NH 244, an alternative road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
The work on the 1.574 km tunnel, which is crucial for the Sudhmahadev- Goha–Khalleni – Chhatroo–Khanabal highway project, started on March 25, 2021, to provide alternative all-weather connectivity and shorten the distance between Doda and Kishtwar districts by 30 km, an official said.
“The breakthrough on the Khellani project was achieved on February 24 but because of the loose strata, we are in the process of stabilising it. Within another 10 days, the work will be completed and in the next 7 to 8 months, this tunnel will be made motorable,” senior site engineer, NHIDCL, Harjeet Singh told PTI.
He said the work on the second tube is also going on at a brisk pace and if everything goes as planned, the breakthrough is expected by April-end.
The Khellani tunnel, constructed at a cost of Rs 431.28 crore, will bypass the slide-prone Batote-Pul Doda which has already been declared “unsafe” due to the reservoir of Baglihar hydroelectric project.
In 2008, around half a-kilometre patch of the highway between Batote and Pul Doda washed away due to capillary action caused by Baglihar pondage, the officials said.
The management staff of APCO Infra-Tech Private Limited, which is the contractor of the Khellani tunnel project, are also positive to complete the construction of the tunnel in time after the breakthrough of one of the twin tubes of the tunnel.
“We started the work on this tunnel in March 2021 and we have completed above 85 per cent of the work and have already successfully made the breakthrough of the 1st tube. There are maximum chances that we will complete the work within time,” Assistant General Manager, Khellani Tunnel Project, Vinay Kumar Singh said.

He said the road has been planned to reduce the travelling time for the inhabitants of the Doda and Kishtwar districts and boost the economy of the area besides providing an alternate all-weather road between Jammu and Srinagar.
Doda district Vice President of BJP, Sanjay Saraf credited the local member parliament and Union Minister Jitendra Singh for his efforts in sanctioning and fast-tracking the work on the project.
“This road will change the fortunes of the people of Doda and Kishtwar as the tourism industry emerging as the mainstay of the economy of the region will surely get a major boost because visitors no longer will be compelled to ply on a dangerous and treacherous road, instead they can enjoy the shorter and safer journey,” Saraf said.–(PTI)
