Gir Somnath: Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against a right-wing leader for her alleged hate speech and detained more than 50 people on the charge of rioting following a communal clash at Una town in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath that left two persons injured, an official said on Sunday.

The communal clash erupted in a sensitive area of Una town on Saturday night with two groups hurling stones at each other amid tension caused by the speech of one Kajal Hindustani at a ‘Hindu Sammelan’ organised on the occasion of Ram Navami on Thursday, in which she allegedly targeted the Muslim community.

Una town had been on edge since the alleged hate speech. With traders keeping markets shut, the police and local leaders had on Saturday called for a peace committee meeting involving representatives of both communities who ensured normalcy. But hours after the meeting, a clash broke out in the communally sensitive area, police said.

“We have registered two FIRs. One is against Kajal Hindustani for hate speech, and another against the mob for rioting,” Superintendent of Police Sripal Sheshma told reporters.

“We have detained 50 to 60 people and are going through the CCTV footage. We are using local intelligence and questioning the detained persons for further action. The accused will not be spared and strict action will be taken against them,” he said.

Police personnel has been deployed in sensitive areas with some of them patrolling and some posted at static points. All the officers are available on call and all distress calls are being addressed on an immediate basis, he said.

“Two State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) teams have been deployed in Una so far in this case,” he said.

The leaders participating in the peace committee meeting reached a resolution, but the message did not reach the young generation and this led to a small incident of stone pelting, police said.

Police carried out combing operations during the night in Una town and seized a number of swords, rods and other such objects from some houses.

    Nine held in Vadodara

Meanwhile, the police in Vadodara city the state on Saturday night arrested a right-wing activist Rohan Shah and some others for “hate speech” during a Ram Navami procession in the city on Thursday. The case against them was registered under sections 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, and residence) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Shah is a local leader of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).

Vadodara police said they have also arrested one Mohammad Vora for allegedly posting an edited video on Facebook with the intention of spreading communal enmity.

Why is PM Modi ‘silent’: Kapil Sibal on Bengal, Bihar communal violence

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: In the wake of communal violence in West Bengal and Bihar, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday questioned the “silence” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the matter, and said “let not 2024 general elections be the reason” for the violence.

Sibal appealed to the people of the country to put a stop to the “burning of Bengal and Bihar, and to the seeds of hatred” which, he said, can only benefit politicians and political ideologies.

The ordinary man becomes a victim of this hatred, he said in a statement.

    MS Education Academy

“I want the prime minister (Modi) to speak up, I want the home minister (Shah) to speak up and condemn the violence. It is unfortunate that in the midst of this violence neither of them have spoken, why are they quiet,” he asked.

“It is my earnest appeal to all those, and it may not be about one particular party, who are responsible for this madness. The country needs to move forward away from the environment that is being created. Let not 2024 be the reason for this,” the former Union minister said.

Sibal said let the rule of law prevail.

Sources said Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed concern over incidents of communal violence in Bihar, and spoke to Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to take stock of the situation.

Sibal said it was not enough to express concern.

His statement comes after communal violence rocked Sasaram and Bihar Sharif towns during Ram Navami festivities.

The police till Saturday arrested 45 people in connection with the communal violence at Sasaram and Bihar Sharif.

Vehicles, houses and shops were torched and several people injured in the communal flare-ups reported in both towns.

Howrah’s Shibpur and Kazipara area in West Bengal had also witnessed clashes during a Ram Navami procession.

Sibal, who was a Union minister during the UPA 1 and 2 regimes, quit the Congress in May last year and was elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent member with the Samajwadi Party’s support. He recently floated a non-electoral platform ‘Insaaf’ aimed at fighting injustice.

Nam Te Maaz Explained the Strong Communal Bonds of Kashmir

    [ad_1]

    by Maleeha Sofi

SRINAGAR: In Kashmiri language and culture, Nam te Maaz depicts an unbreakable bond. This phrase was the title of the last play of the 8-day-long Theatre Festival Kashmir 2023.

The play showcased the relationship between Kashmir Hindus and Kashmir Muslims and their journey over years.

The play opened with a narration briefing about the living of both religions together in Kashmir until the 1990s when most of the Kashmir Hindus moved out. The narrator spoke about the brotherhood between the two and the unbreakable bond which remained unaffected after decades of separation and misunderstandings.

It narrated the story of Roop Kishan Dhar who lived in Raj Bagh. He also left Kashmir in the 1990s and Jan Sahab, a local Kashmiri Muslim took care of his home.  Dhar would often visit his home even after going to Jammu and later settling in America.

The stage showed two houses, one of a Hindu and the other of a Muslim. Religious signs were used to identity the two homes.

The play starts with a conversation between Dhar and Jan Sahab. Dhar has visited Kashmir after a long time. He is seen in a Pheran, the traditional Kashmir cloak that is now being seen as part f Kashmir identity. They talk about their lives, children, and the changes that have occurred. Jan Sahab had a conversation with his wife after this where he also shares his connection with Dhar.

The next conversation is again between Jan Sahab and Dhar where they talk about the time when Dhar left Kashmir and the conflict that continued. They recounted the loss that both sides faced.

Once in a conversation, Dhar noticed a window from Jan Sahab’s house that opened into Dhar’s land. The conversation turned into verbal duelling. Jan Sahab gives a word to Dhar on fixing the issue by removing the window.

Afterward, in a monologue, Dhar talks to himself expressing his varied opinion about the matter. He seems to be confused about whether he has done right or wrong but then he convinces himself that if he would not do this Jan Sahab would gradually take over his whole land.

The play is placed at a time when the Covid19 had started beginning and impacted the lives across the world. Dhar tested positive for the virus. He was quarantined. Jan Sahab did not stop going to his place. He would still go to Dhar with meals. This was despite the fcat that his family was quite upset with this behaviour as they thought the virus could spread to them.

As Dhar recovered, he got ready to go back to America. While leaving, he expressed his gratitude to Jan Sahab and his family. He gives them gifts. Jan Sahab also reveals the truth about constructing the window from his side as it has been suggested by his father to keep an eye on Dhar’s home. Dhar realises his mistake and asks him to perish the wall separating both houses.

Aurangabad renaming: AIMIM halts agitation citing attempts to disturb communal harmony

    [ad_1]

Aurangabad: An ongoing agitation to protest the renaming of Maharashtra’s Aurangabad will be halted ahead of a rally here on Sunday, said AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel, claiming that attempts are being made to disturb communal harmony in the city.

“People are coming from outside (out of Aurangabad) to address the rally organized by Sakal Hindu Samaj here. We have brought our agitation to a halt. Now it is the responsibility of the police to maintain peace,” Jaleel told reporters after meeting city police chief Nikhil Gupta on Friday.

Jaleel said a relay hunger strike, which started nearly two weeks ago, outside the collector’s office will be paused from Saturday.

“We shall continue to make efforts to strengthen the legal battle against the renaming,” said the MP from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

The Union government last month approved the renaming of Aurangabad city as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’ and that of Osmanabad city as Dharashiv’. Aurangabad derives its name from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, while Osmanabad was named for a 20th century ruler of the princely state of Hyderabad.

Jaleel said attempts are being made to disturb the peace. He said, “People who are facing cases for making provocative speeches are going to come and address the rally here on Sunday.”

The lawmaker said their agitation has been peaceful. “Now, efforts are on to give the renaming issue a communal colour,” he said.
He said it is the responsibility of police to ensure that no hateful speeches are given in Sunday’s rally.

The supplementary charge sheet was filed in a Kolkata court on Tuesday.

  • Telangana: 26 men acquitted in 2012 Saidabad communal violence case

Telangana: 26 men acquitted in 2012 Saidabad communal violence case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A local court acquitted 26 persons who were charged by the police for their alleged involvement in communal violence that rocked Saidabad and nearby localities in April 2012.

The Hyderabad police booked six cases against the alleged rioters. The incident at Saidabad began on April 8, 2012, when two groups of Hindus and Muslims clashed at Kurmaguda after ‘pieces of meat’ were found near a temple in Madannapet. It resulted in heavy stone-pelting and brick-batting which was followed by an incident of stabbing.

The police had clamped down curfew in two police station limits to control the violence then at Saidabad. Six Hindu men were arrested by the police for allegedly keeping the pieces of meat in the temple.

The arrested youngsters were identified as GHMC sanitation supervisor, Nagaraj of Maddannapet, flower decorator Kiran Kumar, hotel waiter Ramesh alias Chinna, car driver Dayand Singh of Kurmaguda, Srinivas alias Salman Srinu and liquor trader Niranjan.

The police had claimed that Srinu and Niranjan conspired at a restaurant on April 7 when they asked Nagaraj, Kiran Kumar, Ramesh and Dayanand Singh to throw pieces of cow legs and spray green-colour water on the wall of Sri Abhayanjaneya Swamy temple which divides two clusters of homes where two groups of people resided.

“Nagaraj, Kiran, Ramesh and Dayanad gathered at a wine shop at Champapet and discussed the preparation, and procurement of the materials to be used at the temple. After having consumed liquor, Nagaraju and Ramesh procured two pieces of cow legs and a paint bottle. They went to the temple and threw the cow legs on the temple wall and also sprayed the coloured water at the place,’’ police had claimed then.

After ten long years, the court proved the charges false and acquitted the six persons and 20 others who were arrested in other cases related to violence.

Karuna Sagar, who extended legal help and represented the acquitted persons said, “Today 26 Hindu youth were acquitted in six cases of 2012 Saidabad communal riots. Out of which one case was so malicious that six Hindu youth were implicated as conspirators behind temple desecration.”

He further tweeted that police officers behind the malicious case must be tried for defamation.
