Committed to conduct caste-based survey in Bihar, says Tejashwi

    [ad_1]

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that he is committed to the caste-based census in Bihar and despite the Patna High Court’s interim stay, asserted that it will be conducted in future.

“Our fight for the caste-based survey will continue in the state. The people of Bihar are in favour of caste-based survey. It is in the interest of common people.

“The decision of caste based survey was taken unanimously by all political parties of the state. It is not for any particular caste. It is for all,” he said.

    MS Education Academy

“Bihar government was conducting a caste-based survey at its own expense as the Centre had declined to make a financial contribution to it. The BJP did not want the caste- based survey being conducted in the state. They are frightened that once the actual data would come out, they would know how many people are staying below the poverty line and how many of them are landless. Who is in good financial condition and who has not. It is in the interest of all caste and community people,” Tejashwi Yadav said.

“As the interim order has come, the state government will analyse it and take the decision accordingly,” he said.

“After the court order, the BJP is celebrating the decision and spreading lies that they are in favour of caste-based survey. If it was the case, then why have they not conducted in any BJP-ruled states or by the Centre,” he added.

Rajasthan govt committed to development not ‘danga’, says Ashok Gehlot’s office

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s Officer on Special Duty on Saturday said the Congress government in the state stands for development, dedication, and dialogue and not ‘danga’ and ‘durvyavahar’ as alleged by Union Minister Amit Shah.

OSD Lokesh Sharma said this in response to Shah’s allegations earlier in the day, in which he called the Congress government in the state to be marred with riots, and oppression of women and Dalits.

“AmitShah ji, You have said correctly. Rajasthan is a 3D government. D Development, D- Dedication, D- Dialogue,” Sharma said in a tweet.

    MS Education Academy

He said the Rajasthan government is dedicated to every individual. Be it regarding budget, health, or any social security scheme, every major decision is taken through dialogue, he added.

“Amit Shah must be aware that Vasundhara Raje did not even communicate with his ministers and MLAs whereas Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot directly interacts with the public,” Sharma said.

Addressing party workers at a Booth Maha Sammelan in Bharatpur district earlier in the day, Shah said there is a “a 3-D government in Rajasthan and three Ds stands for ‘dange’ (riots), ‘durvyavahar’ (ill-treatment) with women and ‘Dalit’ atrocities.”

  • No farmer became helpless or committed suicide in past 6 years: CM Yogi

No farmer became helpless or committed suicide in past 6 years: CM Yogi

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday flagged off 77 tractors for farm machinery banks set up in cooperative sugarcane and sugar mill societies.

“Today is going to be a historic day for the sugarcane farmers when on the eve of Holi, Rs 2 lakh crores will be sent directly to the farmers’ bank accounts through DBT,” CM Yogi said.

Prior to 2017, the state’s sugarcane farmers were compelled to burn their crops because of a lack of water for irrigation, electricity, and timely payment of their dues.

In the previous six years, no farmer in Uttar Pradesh became helpless and attempted suicide, said CM Yogi.

The Chief Minister added, “We have freed the sugarcane farmers from the brokers’ clutches, and today the farmers do not have to wander around in search of the slip because their slip arrives on their smartphone.”

He said that the state’s 77 sugarcane committees are receiving tractors and other equipment today. The happiness of sugarcane farmers will be doubled by receiving such a gift on the eve of Holi.

“We all know what the condition of sugarcane farmers was earlier. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, the farmer has for the first time been included in any government’s agenda and has begun to benefit from the government’s programs. Every farmer who was previously dependent on moneylenders is now able to benefit from the Soil Health Card, Kisan Bima Yojana, Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi”, CM Yogi said.

Mentioning that now 2.60 crore farmers in the state are taking advantage of the facility of the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi, he said, “Within the last three and a half years, we have done the work of transferring an amount of Rs 51,000 crores to their accounts.”

Asserting that a farmer is just a farmer and has no caste, creed, or religion, Yogi said, “We all know what was the situation in the state before 2017. There was no electricity and no water for irrigation. We have now provided irrigation facilities to 22 lakh hectares of land. Previously, farming was considered a loss-making venture due to a lack of water, fertilizers, and a fair market price for the product.”

“Today, UP was going to create a new record in the country, adding that sugarcane payments totalling more than Rs 2 lakh crores are now reaching farmers’ bank accounts for the first time. Many states in the country do not even have an annual budget of two lakh crores, he pointed out,” he added.

The CM went on to say that it is due to the efforts of sugarcane farmers that they are producing additional 10 tonnes of sugarcane per hectare. Apart from this, the area of sugarcane production has increased to 8 lakh hectares of additional land in the state today.

“In contrast to the previous governments, where sugar mills were closed or sold at throwaway prices, we did not shut down any sugar mill, and instead re-started the closed sugar mills. Munderwa and Pipraich sugar mills were made functional again. When the world’s sugar mills were shut down, Uttar Pradesh still had 119 sugar mills operating,” said Yogi.

He emphasized that during the Covid-19 period, when sanitisers were in short supply across the country, the government made sanitisers available at no cost to all municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh via these sugar mills. Along with this, sanitisers were made available in 27 states across the country.

The Chief Minister stated that his government paid the sugarcane price on time and procured wheat and paddy at the higher minimum support price. “For this more and more purchase centres were established.

The instructions were clear: as long as the farmers had crops, the government would purchase them. No farmer will have to wander around. We have issued 284 licenses for the Khadsari units, which has resulted in job creation.”

The Chief Minister said that maximum green ethanol is being produced in the country through sugarcane farmers.

“Previously, our own money was spent in the form of terrorism against us under the name of the Petro Dollar. But now ethanol is being produced in farmers’ fields in the form of sugarcane and soon it will be seen being used in the form of diesel and petrol”, he remarked.

The CM stated that Uttar Pradesh currently is the largest producer of ethanol in the country. “Today, our farmers are progressing by using mechanized farming. Apart from this, co-farming is being practised through FPO, enhancing the fertility of the land as well as profits of farmers,” CM Yogi remarked.

The Chief Minister cited the example of a progressive Bijnor farmer who, instead of selling his sugarcane to sugar mills, makes vinegar and markets it abroad.

He said that due to mechanized farming, today the stubble is mixed with the soil instead of being set on fire, contributing significantly to the farm’s fertility. Farming is being advanced through mechanization.
CM Yogi stated that 105 of the state’s 119 mills pay the sugarcane price within 10 days.

“We’ve also put pressure on the remaining 14-15. Where previously brokers were involved, the slip now arrives on the farmer’s smartphone. Those who used to exploit farmers have had their businesses shut down,” he added.

  • Apple supplier Foxconn committed to set up plant in Telangana, CEO to CM

Apple supplier Foxconn committed to set up plant in Telangana, CEO to CM

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Foxconn Chairman Young Liu, who was in Hyderabad last week, has written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, saying that the Taiwanese contract manufacturing giant is committed to setting up the plant in the state.

“As discussed with you during our meeting on March 2, Foxconn is committed to setting up a manufacturing facility in Kongara Kalan and I seek the support of your team in operationalising the Kongara Kalan Park as early as possible,” Liu wrote in his letter.

The state government has reportedly offered 200 acres of land to Foxconn to set up the plant at Kongara Kalan, about 35 km from Hyderabad.

Liu also invited KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, to visit Taiwan as his personal guest.

The copy of the letter dated March 6 was released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

This comes amid reports that Foxconn has denied entering into any binding, definitive agreements for new India investment during its chairman’s recent trip.

“To all the naysayers: Stuff prevails,” tweeted Telangana’s director of electronics Sujai Karampuri, who posted the letter by Young Liu to the chief minister.

The Foxconn chairman thanked KCR for the hospitality extended to him and his team during their visit to Hyderabad.

“I also wish to thank you for your warm birthday wishes and a personalized card. I was indeed inspired by your vision and the efforts towards transformation and development of Telangana. I now have a new friend in India and I look forward to working with you in future,” he said.

Liu had visited Hyderabad on March 2. He called on KCR and during the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed.

The Telangana government had announced that Foxconn will set up a manufacturing facility with employment generation potential for over one lakh people.

The historic deal has potential to generate employment to over one lakh people over a period of 10 years, the CMO had said.

“Foxconn’s unit will help in generating large scale employment to youth and will help in attracting more such industries to the State,” KCR had said.

He said that Telangana considers Taiwan as a natural partner and that the state is glad to be a part of Foxconn’s growth story.

KCR assured Liu that the state government will provide all kinds of support to Foxconn for its operations in the state.

The CMO had quoted Foxconn chairman as saying that his organization has studied extensively about the state of Telangana. He praised the friendly industrial development ecosystem created in the state.

Liu expressed happiness over the progress achieved by the state in the industrial sector, especially in IT and related electronics sectors, in just eight years.

The chairman said that he is optimistic about the investments of his company in Telangana.

  • Congress says committed to 33% reservation in legislatures, Parliament for women

Congress says committed to 33% reservation in legislatures, Parliament for women

    [ad_1]

Nava Raipur: The Congress has said it is committed to 33 per cent reservation for women in legislatures and Parliament, promising that it would strive to pass the legislation — ensuring that it is an “inclusive reservation” — to see young women from the backward, Dalit and tribal communities are elected.

In its youth, education and employment resolution adopted at the 85th plenary session here, the Congress said sexual violence also takes communal and casteist shades.

“The cruelly raped Bilkis Bano is still fighting for justice and the young Dalit women raped and murdered in Kathua, Unnao, Hathras and in other places are fighting the arduous battle for justice and to smash the impunity our society offers to people who indulge in sexual violence on minority and oppressed women,” the party resolution said.

While the Congress is committed to building a progressive, safe society by empowering women, the RSS “objectifies and disempowers women”, the resolution alleged.

The Congress believes in an equal future for women. It is committed to the creation of equal opportunities for women in education and employment and their socio-political-economic empowerment, it said.

The resolution said the Congress will ensure that prevention of sexual harassment committees are formed in all workplaces.

The party asserted that it is committed to the 33 per cent reservation in legislatures and Parliament for women and tabled the bill when the UPA government was in power.

“We will strive to pass the bill seeking 33 per cent reservation while ensuring that this is an inclusive reservation which will see our young women from the Backward, Dalit and Tribal communities reaching legislatures and Parliament to take our nation forward,” the resolution said.

The Congress resolves to realise the vision of gender equity and ensure justice for all sections of the society, it said.

In the resolution, the party said it believes in the political empowerment of the youth, right from the panchayat level to Parliament.

“Ensuring internal democracy within the Indian Youth Congress and National Student Union of India were effective steps taken in this direction under the guidance of our leader, Rahul Gandhi,” it said.

“We strongly believe that it is imperative that the Udaipur Declaration be implemented in word and spirit. We recognise that 50 under 50 was a revolutionary concept for the Congress organisation that must be implemented across all party positions from booth level to the Congress Working Committee,” the party said.

Similarly, keeping a five-year term for all the positions is also important to give a chance to newer people in the organisation, it added.

The Congress also alleged that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is trying to reduce the entire education to that of literacy, numeracy, and skilling, and aims to weaken the public education system.

It claimed that the NEP is a roadmap for establishing a “mono cultural nation”.

“Every feature of NEP 2020 aims to demolish the basic structure of the Constitution, particularly federalism and social justice,” it said.

In its resolution, the Congress also expressed deep concern over the “rampant” rise in unemployment.

The Modi government’s recent decision to launch the Agniveer scheme has snatched opportunities to serve the nation from the hands of millions of Indian youths, the party alleged.

“We demand that the Army revert to previous recruitment schemes where permanent jobs can be provided to youth eager to serve the nation,” the resolution said.

  • Cong says committed to secularism, promises ‘Rohith Vemula Act’ if voted to power

Cong says committed to secularism, promises ‘Rohith Vemula Act’ if voted to power

    [ad_1]

Nava Raipur: The Congress on Sunday promised to bring in a special legislation called the “Rohith Vemula Act” to redress the discrimination faced by students from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities in educational institutions, and asserted that it shall commit to secularism in letter and spirit and will be at the forefront to protect the rights of minorities.

In its social justice and empowerment resolution passed at its 85th plenary session, the Congress committed to conduct a socio-economic caste census along with the decennial census.

The party said it has advocated reservations for economically weaker sections (EWS) of the society but the BJP’s policy on EWS quota has excluded even the poor SCs, STs and OBCs from availing benefits under EWS quota.

The Congress said it considers poor belonging to all communities to be economically weaker and therefore poor SCs, STs and OBCs cannot be excluded from the EWS quota.

“Congress party would ensure that economically weaker section category students are given age relaxation on par with the age relaxation given to SCs and STs for entering into government services,” the resolution said.

Reiterating its demand for a caste census, the Congress alleged in its resolution that the BJP has consistently refused to conduct the caste census which would be crucial to revising the benchmark for socio-economic and educational backwardness.

“Indian National Congress commits to conduct a socio-economic caste census along with the decennial census. The caste census shall also enumerate de-notified tribes and nomadic tribes,” the resolution said.

The Congress also committed to creating a dedicated ministry for the empowerment of the OBCs, saying it will focus on expanding educational and employment opportunities of OBCs and provision of civic amenities in their habitations.

The slew of promises and reservations in internal party organisation for the SCs, STs, OBCs and minorities is seen by many political observers as the Congress’ attempt to re-establish and strengthen its support base among the marginalised sections of the society which has eroded in the last few years.

Noting that the National Commission for Minorities plays an important role in protecting the rights and livelihoods of Minorities, the Congress said it is committed to according constitutional status to panel to endow it with powers to serve the community better.

The Congress also committed to implementing special welfare scheme for minority welfare based on the recommendations of the Sachar committee.

The Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) and the 15-point programme for minorities as enunciated by Indira Gandhi, reformulated by Rajiv Gandhi and effectively implemented by Manmohan Singh shall be implemented in full, the party resolution said.

The party also said it is committed to giving constitutional status to the National Commission for Women to enhance its effectiveness.

“Congress party shall commit to secularism in letter and spirit and would be in the forefront to protect the rights of minorities,” the resolution said.

Hitting out at the BJP, the Congress said the promise of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” by the BJP has proved beyond doubt that it is nothing but a massive act of deception.

“Mob lynching particularly against minorities, atrocities against SCs and STs and violence against women have touched record highs in the last nine years. The sense of insecurity and agony among these communities/groups is extremely high because they are being continuously targeted with hate and gruesome violence by the BJP-RSS and their affiliates,” the party alleged in its resolution.

The Congress party committed to further strengthening the legal mechanism for ensuring protection of rights of these communities.

The Congress said it shall be vigilant and strive relentlessly for delivering justice to the victims of atrocities by ensuring the effective implementation of the SC and ST (Preventions of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

“To redress the discrimination faced by the students from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities in educational institutions, the Congress party commits to enact a special Act called the Rohith Vemula Act to protect and safeguard their right to education and dignity,” the resolution said.

Vemula, a research scholar of the University of Hyderabad, allegedly hanged himself in a hostel room in 2016.

The death of the 26-year-old Dalit student on January 17, 2016 triggered a nationwide agitation against casteism in institutions of higher learning.

The Congress also promised to set up a National Council for Social Justice on the lines of National Development Council, which it said would not only review the progress and gaps in implementing India’s social justice policies and legislations but also tangibly safeguard, strengthen and defend the rights and entitlements meant for SCs, STs, OBC, and minorities throughout India.

The council will also undertake surveys across the country to study inequalities and comprehensively map the socio-economic and political status of these sections in India and publish a “state of social justice report”, along the lines of the National Economic Survey, a day before the Budget is presented every year, the resolution said.

To ensure that the judiciary is reflective of the social diversity of India, the Congress said it shall consider reservations for SCs-STs-OBCs in the higher judiciary.

The Congress also promised a national legislation to make ensure that a portion of the Union budget is earmarked in proportion to the population of SCs and STs in the country, to foster their sustainable development and to bring them on par with rest of the society.

The Congress also asserted that it committed to completely eradicate manual scavenging.

Noting that India has witnessed ordeals experienced by millions of migrant workers during the period of COVID-19 pandemic, the party alleged that their utter neglect by the BJP Government forced them to walk, long distances which is still fresh in our minds.

Congress believes it is time to pass a legislation to guarantee the right to work in urban areas that provides work on demand to urban poor, particularly inter and intra state migrants, unorganized casual workers and the homeless, the resolution said.

Rajasthan govt committed to overall development of tribal regions, says CM Gehlot

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government is committed to the overall development of tribal regions and the state Budget includes “many important gifts” for the area’s overall development, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday.

The chief minister was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Government Community Health Centre at Dhariyavad assembly segment in Pratapgarh district where he inaugurated projects worth Rs 11.74 crore. He also laid the foundation stone of 10 projects worth Rs 59.68 crore.

“The state government has given a major share in the Budget to the Mewar region under the irrigation sector as there is a strong potential for irrigation projects here,” Gehlot was quoted as saying in a statement.
