    Banihal/Jammu, Jul 10 (GNS): Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained suspended for the third day on Monday and the authorities said that the thoroughfare shall remain closed on Tuesday despite stepped up efforts to restore the road amid improved weather conditions, officials said.

    The highway, , the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with outside world, was shut for traffic on Saturday following heavy rains overnight that triggered multiple landslides and also washed away a portion of nearly 40-metre road stretch near Panthiyal tunnel in Ramban district.

     “Collective efforts from the Administration and NHAI, put in throughout the day, resulted in substantial improvement in the road condition. However, complete restoration is expected to take some more time,” police said in a statement issued here to GNS. “Accordingly, it has been decided by the Administration to keep the traffic on Highway suspended for tomorrow also i.e. 11.07.2023 (Tuesday).” HMVs have been advised to take Mughal Road for journey from Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa.

     “Traffic is likely to resume on 12.07.2023 (Wednesday), however, next update will be issued tomorrow evening.” (GNS)

    SRINAGAR: Amid ongoing weather vagaries, authorities have ordered for closure of Sinthan and Margan passes for all sorts of movements to avoid any exigency till May 9.

    “In view of predictions by the Meteorological Department for widespread and heavy rains and Snowfall in upper reaches, people of Tehsil Larnoo and outside tourists are advised to refrain from venturing in landslide and shooting stone prone areas”, reads an advisory.

    “Moreover rainfall/thunderstorm/snowfall may lead to disruption of traffic on Sinthan pass and Margan pass roads. People are advised to refrain from travelling on these two roads on 8th and 9th of May 2023,” it said.

    “Also in compliance to the directions of SDM Kokernag, SHO Larnoo, and Naib Tehsildar Larnoo are directed to set up naka at daksum and Gowran and restrict all kinds of vehicular traffic on Sinthan Pass and Margan Pass roads on 8th and 9th of May 2023”, it reads. (GNS)

  • All Educational Institutions Upto Class 8 in Ramban Closed Amid Incessant Heavy Rains the District

    Srinagar, May 8: District administration Ramban has ordered for closure of all schools, upto Class 8, for the day, amid ongoing heavy rains across the district.

    Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mussarat Islam, as per GNS, ordered for the closure of the schools albeit asking for scheduled conduct of exams, if any, in the district.

    “All Schools (Government & Private) up to middle level (Class 8) in Ramban District shall remain closed today in view of heavy rains. However, exams if any, shall be held as per schedule”, Deputy Commissioner Ramban said.

    In the meantime, the administration has also urged people to ensure their children do not go anywhere near rivers and nallahs due to risen water levels.

    “People are advised to ensure their children do not go anywhere near rivers and nallahs as water level has risen due to incessant rains”, the DC office wrote on its Twitter handle. (GNS)

    An official said that Srinagar-Kargil road has been closed for vehicular movement of traffic due to fresh snow fall at Zojila.

    He said that decision has been taken for the safety of the passengers.

    SRINAGAR: Authorities have closed Srinagar-Kargil highway due to fresh snowfall while vehicular movement has been badly affected due to breakdown of a big trailer truck on Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Dalwas, officials said Friday.

    An official said that “up HMVs tail has been delayed due to the breakdown of a big trailer at Dalwas.”

    He advised commuters to cooperate with the traffic officials manning the highway.

    On Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gomri (SSG) road, which connects Ladakh with Kashmir valley, he said that the route has been closed for traffic due to fresh snowfall. Pertinently, the road was partially opened for traffic on Thursday after remaining closed for 11 days due to snow avalanches at Zojila Pass.

    The closure has affected traffic in the area, with commuters advised to find alternative routes. Authorities are working hard to clear the snow and reopen the road as soon as possible, but the process is expected to take some time.

    Meanwhile, the Mughal road continues to remain closed for traffic. The road, which connects Kashmir valley with Rajouri and Poonch regions, remains shut in winters due to heavy snowfall. The road is expected to open for traffic soon as authorities are clearing the snow from the historic road.

     

    The Met department has predicted widespread rains in Kashmir valley today and at isolated places of Jammu. (KDC)

    SRINAGAR: The Srinagar-Kargil road remained closed for eighth consecutive day on Monday following the snowfall and snow avalanches along the Zojila Pass on the road.

    The road was closed on April 17 after the fresh snowfall and avalanches that  occured along the road and buried several vehicles.

    An official said that the no traffic movement will be allowed on Zojila Pass (Srinagar-Kargil road) on Monday as well due to snow accumulation and shooting stones at several places on the road, adding that the snow clearance work is going on.

    “In view of snow accumulation/avalanches there shall be ‘no vehicular movement’ on 24-04-2023(Monday) through Zojila” the Kargil Police tweeted.

    Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police said that Zojila Pass ( Srinagar-Kargil) will remain closed for traffic movement on April 24th, Monday in view of the snow accumulation and avalanches.

    Hundreds of vehicles including trucks and passengers vehicles are stranded on both sides of the highway for last 8 days.

    Director Floriculture Kashmir in a statement said that the Tulip garden shall remain closed for general public from Friday.

    “As the Tulip Bloom is almost over, the Tulip Garden, Srinagar shall remain closed for general public w. e. f  21.04.2023, ” it said.

    A record 3.65 lakh tourists including locals had visited the garden since its opening on March 19.

    Srinagar, Apr 20: Tulip Garden in Srinagar, which is one of the major tourist attractions in Kashmir, will be closed for general public from tomorrow.

    An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that as the Tulip bloom is almost over, the garden will be closed from tomorrow.

    The garden, which is located at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, was opened for tourists on March 25 this year. During this period, tourists from different parts of the country thronged to the garden to witness Tulip blooms.

    Floriculture officer Shayiq Rasool told KNO that Tulip Garden witnessed an overwhelming response from the visitors, especially during the Tulip festival.

    He said with the end of the Tulip Bloom season, the authorities have decided to close the garden for general public from tomorrow—(KNO)
