Process of govt change in Maha was set in motion on Fadnavis’s instructions, claims Tanaji

    [ad_1]

Aurangabad: The process to effect a change of government in Maharashtra started on the instructions of BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, Health Minister Tanaji Sawant has claimed.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government in Maharashtra collapsed in June 2022 with the rebellion of Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who then formed the new government with BJP’s Fadnavis as deputy chief minister.

“We (Shiv Sena leaders of the Shinde camp) and Devendra ji had meetings. I and current chief minister Eknath Shinde held 100 to 150 meetings in two years (for bringing down the Thackeray government),” Sawant told reporters in Osmanabad on Tuesday.

“On Devendra Fadnavis’s orders, Shiv Sena and BJP came together in Osmanabad Zilla Parishad….It started from there,” Sawant said.

Reacting to Sawant’s statement, Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Ambadas Danve said it made clear that the “seeds of betrayal” were already there in the minds of the MLAs of the Shinde group.

The reasons given for the rebellion such as Thackeray not meeting party MLAs regularly or Sena ministers and MLAs not getting funds were hollow excuses, said Danve, a Thackeray loyalist.

Indian Embassy in Kathmandu claims Amritpal Singh hiding in Nepal: Report

    [ad_1]

Kathmandu: The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has claimed that absconding pro-Khalistan radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh is currently hiding in Nepal and requested the Himalayan nation’s government agencies to arrest him if he tries to flee.

The Mission made the claim in a letter to the Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 25.

“The esteemed Ministry is requested to inform the Department of Immigration not to permit Amritpal Singh to travel through Nepal for any third country and arrest him if he attempts to escape from Nepal using an Indian passport or any other fake passport under intimation to this mission,” reads a copy of the letter obtained by The Kathmandu Post.

The letter and Singh’s personal details have been circulated to all the concerned agencies from hotels to airlines, multiple sources told The Kathmandu Post.

Singh is said to be possessing multiple passports with different identities.

The development comes amid a massive crackdown on Amritpal Singh and his associates in Punjab.

Amritpal Singh, against whom the National Security Act has been invoked and a non-bailable warrant issued, has been on the run despite the massive manhunt launched to nab him since March 18.

The self-styled preacher had returned from Dubai last year.

  • Raj Thackeray claims ‘mystery dargah’ coming up in Mahim sea

Raj Thackeray claims ‘mystery dargah’ coming up in Mahim sea

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray made a dramatic revelation on Wednesday of a purported dargah coming up in the Arabian Sea off Mahim, a few metres away from the shore.

Drawing the attention of the state government, Mumbai Police and civic administration, the MNS chief also served an ultimatum to them that unless it is demolished within a month, the MNS would go and erect a Ganpati temple at the same spot.

Hinting at a potential security threat, Raj Thackeray demanded: “The Mahim police station is close by, the BMC officials keep moving around there… Yet since the past two years this dargah’ is blatantly coming up in the sea… Another Haji Ali Dargah’… And there’s nobody to talk about it?”

Returning with his old Laav re te video’ (Play that video) after five years, Raj Thackeray ordered playing a video, apparently shot with a drone hovering around and above what seemed to be a small islet that had come up in the Mahim sea.

It had some green and white flags, fluttering on a pole and on strings around, with some men and women devotees’ offering prayers at a makeshift grave of an unknown person.

“Whose dargah’ is this? Is it of some fish,” he asked in a lighter vein, but warned that such things cannot be tolerated and if it is not demolished within a month, his party would retaliate with a Ganesh temple at the same islet.

  • Sisodia involved in ‘large-scale destruction of digital evidence’: ED claims

Sisodia involved in ‘large-scale destruction of digital evidence’: ED claims

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has claimed before a Delhi court that AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was involved in “large-scale destruction of digital evidence to impede investigation” into the Delhi excise policy case and had changed and destroyed 14 phones.

In its remand application, seeking an extension of Sisodia’s custody, the agency on Friday said the major recommendations that ultimately formed the basis for the Excise Policy 2021-22, including fixing of 12 per cent profit margin for wholesalers, were not decided in the group of ministers (GoM) meetings and instead “imported from external sources”.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Sisodia on March 9 in the Tihar jail, where he was lodged in connection with a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case about alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped policy. The CBI had arrested him on February 26.

The ED is probing money laundering charges against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.

The application before Special Judge M K Nagapal, who extended Sisodia’s custody by five days, also claimed that the investigation conducted so far indicated that Sisodia is “actually involved in the activity connected to the acquisition, possession and use of proceeds of crime” and “therefore guilty of the offence of money laundering”.

In its application, the ED had sought a seven-day extension in Sisodia’s custody.

The agency alleged that Sisodia had withheld information which is in his “exclusive knowledge” and “extremely relevant to the investigation”.

The facts which emerged after Sisodia’s custodial interrogation included he being “involved in large scale destruction of digital evidence to impede the investigation and to erase evidence”, the application said.

It alleged that during the one-year period of the liquor scam, Sisodia changed or destroyed 14 phones or IMEIs, of which only one phone could be recovered by the CBI and two were produced during interrogation by the ED.

Sisodia changed or destroyed most of these phones right from the day of the complaint by the Delhi lieutenant governor (LG) to the CBI, which was also reported by the media on July 22 last year, the application claimed.

When questioned about the reason for changing a phone on July 22 last year, Sisodia said the phone was damaged, but he was unable to answer regarding what he had done with the broken or damaged phone, it claimed.

“This conclusion of the destruction of mobile phones is based on the fact that these 11 mobile phones or IMEls were not recovered during intensive searches conducted by central investigative agencies or during interrogation,” the ED said.

Sisodia had also used phones purchased in the name of other people so that he had the excuse that the phones were not purchased by him and belonged to others, the application claimed.

“The large-scale destruction of digital evidence was intentionally made to destroy evidence of his involvement in the offence of money laundering by destroying evidence of handling of proceeds of crime, money trail as well as involvement or connection in the process or activities connected with proceeds of crime for the commissioning of the offence of money laundering,” it said.

The application alleged that the “pro-active destruction of evidence” led to the sole inference that Sisodia made “conscious efforts to destroy evidence of the offence of money laundering”.

Claiming that the fixing of a 12 per cent profit margin for wholesalers was made in collusion with a “south group”, the application said from the statements of various officials of the excise department and other material evidence it was found that the group of ministers (GoM) meetings were “only a sham and there was no discussion or decision making in these GoM meetings”.

The “south group” is an alleged liquor cartel that paid kickbacks amounting to about Rs 100 crore to the AAP to gain a larger share of the market in the national capital under the now-scrapped policy 2020-21.

The “south group”, according to the ED, comprises Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Pharma), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (YSR Congress MP from Ongole in Andhra Pradesh), his son Raghav Magunta, K Kavitha, BRS leader and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and others.

“The major recommendations presented in the GoM report (including fixing of 12 per cent commission) were neither discussed nor decided in these so-called GoM meetings. These recommendations which ultimately formed the basis for the excise policy 2021-22 were imported from external sources which Manish Sisodia has not revealed so far,” the application alleged.

It claimed that according to excise department officials, who were interrogated during Sisodia’s custody and also confronted with him, the department did not participate in the decision-making or in the actual drafting of the GoM report.

“The changes in the draft GoM report (from 5 per cent to 12 per cent) which is overlapping with the stay of the members or representatives of the south group…during which period a print was taken at the hotel and a document was handed over by Manish Sisodia is clear proof of the collusion with south group to increase the profit margin of wholesalers from 5 per cent to 12 per cent,” the application claimed.

It alleged that two days prior to the GoM submitting its report to the council of ministers, certain parts of the final GoM report were found in the mobile phones of “south group” members.

It said during Sisodia’s interrogation, he was confronted with various individuals and besides extracting his mobile phone data, the agency also took his iCloud and email dump.

The mail dump contained 1.23 lakh mails and the same was being analysed and needed to be confronted with Sisodia, the application said.

It said other “crucial information” was also revealed during Sisodia’s custody and in view of the findings, the ED had summoned four people to confront the AAP leader with — former excise commissioner Rahul Singh, C Aravind, the then secretary to the deputy chief minister, Amit Arora and Dinesh Arora. Former excise commissioner Rahul Singh is not an accused in the case.

Earlier, the present court had sent Sisodia to one week ED custody on March 10.

  • AAP leaders making ‘baseless’ allegations out of ‘frustration’, claims BJP

AAP leaders making ‘baseless’ allegations out of ‘frustration’, claims BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday claimed that AAP leaders were “making baseless allegations out of frustration” as the Arvind Kejriwal government’s “scams” were being exposed one after another.

Earlier in the day, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha accused the BJP of trying to topple the Kejriwal government by threatening them with ED and CBI raids if they don’t join the saffron party.

The BJP has mounted a sustained attack on the AAP and the Arvind Kejriwal government over a number of alleged “scams”, most prominently the one related to the Delhi Excise Policy for 2021-22.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said, “Every time Arvind Kejriwal’s scams are uncovered, rather than giving answers to questions he asks the AAP leaders to start crying that their government is facing threat and their MLAs are being poached.”

Kejriwal does this to “divert attention” from the investigations being conducted by different probe agencies, Bidhuri said.

He claimed that AAP leaders have levelled “baseless and fabricated” allegations against the BJP out of frustration.

“Two AAP ministers are in jail for corruption which was masterminded by Arvind Kejriwal. He made the ministers do all corruption and grabbed all the money, and later sacrificed them,” Bidhuri alleged.

Chadha alleged the BJP was planning ‘Operation Lotus 2.0’ in Delhi and the AAP MLAs were being “threatened with ED and CBI cases” if they don’t join the saffron party.

“The BJP wants to topple the AAP government in Delhi under the garb of a no-confidence motion and our legislators are being sent offers by the BJP high command,” he charged.

The AAP has 62 MLAs in the 70-member-strong Delhi Assembly and the BJP has eight. Yet, its leaders think they will be able to snatch power by buying out MLAs, Chadha said.

Bidhuri, however, claimed even after having 62 seats, Arvind Kejriwal is not confident about his MLAs.

“This is because Kejriwal has been the mastermind of all the scams in the Delhi government. The heat of the probes into corruption cases will reach Kejriwal soon and he will also go to jail because he has always been involved in all the corruption,” the BJP leader alleged.

He said the BJP was bringing a no-confidence motion in the assembly because the “people of Delhi have lost their confidence in the AAP government due to its scams”.

Jitan Ram Manjhi claims Ravan was greater than Ram

    [ad_1]

Patna: Former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi triggered a fresh row on Friday after he said that Ravan was a greater character than Ram.

Manjhi said: “When Ram was in trouble, some divine powers always helped him, which was not the case with Ravan. Hence, Ravan was a greater character than Ram.”

Manjhi, however, also said that Ram and Ravan were imaginary characters in Ramcharitmanas and Ramayana, but in whatever way the writers presented the characters on the basis of their imagination, Ravan had an edge over Ram.

When asked whether his statement could create a controversy, Manjhi said: “I am telling the truth. Rahul Shankritayan and others had said that Ram is an imaginary character. While most who said that were Brahmins, no one would question them. But some people will accuse me for saying the same.”

“Ramcharitmanas is a very good book but it has many points which are wrong. B.R. Ambedkar and Ram Manohar Lohia had also said that the wrongful content should be removed,” Manjhi said.

“Ramayans was written by Valmiki, but no one worshiped him. On the other hand, Ramcharitmanas was written by Tulsi Das and hence every one worships him. People having Manuvadi ideology have made such a system,” he said.
