UP civic polls: SP gave tickets to those responsible for riots in Kanpur, says Yogi

    [ad_1]

Kanpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday hit out at the Samajwadi Party, alleging those responsible for riots and curfews in Kanpur were its candidates in the urban local body polls.

On the last day of campaigning for the second phase of the civic polls, Adityanath addressed public meetings in Kanpur, Banda and Chitrakoot and appealed to voters to make the BJP victorious so that funds allocated by the Central and state governments for development and welfare schemes are utilized fully.

At an election rally in Kanpur, the chief minister said this city used to be known as the country’s textile hub and largest industrial city, but its neglect by the previous government was “known to everyone”.

    MS Education Academy

Referring to Kanpur’s once-booming illegal firearms industry, he said ‘kattas’ (countrymade pistols) were manufactured in Kanpur under the SP rule, but a new node of the Defence Corridor is being built here now.

As the country’s centre for defence production, Kanpur is establishing a new identity, Adityanath said.

“Those who were responsible for riots and curfews in Kanpur and played with people’s faith in the past are today the candidates of the Samajwadi Party. The kind of remarks they have made on women and the holy epic ‘Ramayan’ are not hidden from anyone,” the chief minister said.

“The urban local body election is not only (a medium) to elect a mayor but also about making all the BJP candidates victorious in all the wards,” he said.

“This election is not about hatred and personal comments. This election is about making your city a smart city, a safe city and one which has all the basic facilities,” he said at the meeting.

Adityanath also referred to the work done by his government to clean river Ganga under the Namami Gange project.

“Mother Ganga is our faith and our identity. Due to the neglect by the previous governments, 14 crore litres of sewage were discharged into Mother Ganga through the Sisamau drain. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the work on the Namami Gange project started.

“At that time, there was a Samajwadi Party government in the state. The SP did not do any work for two years. In March 2017, the double-engine BJP government came to power, and today not even a single drop from the Sisamau drain falls into the Ganga,” he said.

The chief minister also appealed to voters to add “a third engine” to the “double-engine government” and make Kanpur better again with basic facilities.

“Double-engine” is a term often used by BJP leaders to refer to the party ruling at the Centre and in a state.

Addressing another rally at Banda, the CM said that the Bundelkhand region has overcome the problem of barren and rugged terrain and is set to become a heaven on earth.

“In the next four months, the work of providing pure tap water to every house in Bundelkhand is going to be completed,” he said.

Adityanath said the entire Bundelkhand region is writing a “new chapter of development today” and recalled that for years the unveiling of Maharana Pratap’s statue was stalled which he did when he visited Banda last time.

He said that prior to 2017, Bundelkhand faced a lot of problems related to drinking water, agriculture, employment, and security.

Earlier women had to bring water in pitchers from far-off places, but today through the Har Ghar Nal Yojana, tap water is being provided to every house in Bundelkhand and the exercise will be completed in the next four months, he said.

Addressing his last rally of the day at Chitrakoot, the CM said, “Chitrakoot has been freed from dacoits criminals and is being re-established as a holy place of Sanatan Hinduism.”

Taking a jibe at the opposition parties, he added: “Dr. Lohia started the Ramayana fairs, but the Samajwadi Party, which does politics in the name of Dr. Lohia, says that Ram did not exist. Its leaders are making unsavoury comments on Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas as well.”

Adityanath also said that the then Samajwadi Party government opened fire on the devotees of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

Adityanath was referring to police firing on ‘karsevaks’ gathered in Ayodhya on the saffron outfits’ call in 1990 when SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was the UP chief minister.

“Their thinking is anarchic, opportunistic and dynastic. They can’t befriend a saint, but would readily garland a dacoit and allow them to exploit common people and traders,” he remarked further.

The second and final phase of the urban local body polls in UP will be held on May 11. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.

  • Congress govt in Himachal misused official machinery to win Shimla civic polls, says BJP

Congress govt in Himachal misused official machinery to win Shimla civic polls, says BJP

    [ad_1]

Shimla: The BJP on Monday alleged that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh misused the official machinery to win the elections to the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

Sukhram Chaudhary, the party’s Shimla Municipal Corporation election in-charge, said the votes of thousands of people from outside Shimla were registered to influence the polls.

The Congress won 24 of the 34 wards in last week’s Shimla Municipal Corporation election. The BJP won nine wards and the CPI(M) one while the AAP, which had contested from 21 seats, drew a blank.

    MS Education Academy

During a review meeting on Monday, the BJP’s Himachal Pradesh unit chief Rajiv Bindal said the Congress indulged in malpractices to influence the elections from day one.

The roster was fiddled with and over 20,000 new voters were registered, he claimed.

Bindal added that the announcement of jobs regularisation and three per cent dearness allowance were attempts to woo the government employees, who constitute a major chunk of voters in the civic polls.

Expressing his gratitude to the party workers for the efforts they put into the election campaign, the BJP state unit chief exhorted leaders to gear up for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP’s nine winning candidates were also present at the meeting.

Former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur called on the party workers to strengthen the polling booths ahead of the parliamentary elections.

UP civic polls: Adityanath says BJP govt ‘put Aligarh lock’ on riots in state

    [ad_1]

Aligarh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the double-engine government of the BJP has “put an Aligarh lock” on riots in the state.

Campaigning for the second phase of urban local body polls in Aligarh, which is famous for its locks, Adityanath hit out at opposition parties for promoting “tamancha (countrymade pistol) culture” in the state.

The chief minister also held public meetings in Budaun, Shahjahanpur and Bareilly, and talked about law and order and development in his speeches in these districts.

    MS Education Academy

“The double-engine government of the BJP has put an Aligarh lock over riots in the state and made UP riot-free,” Adityanath said in Aligarh.

“Double-engine” is a term often used by BJP leaders to refer to the party ruling at the Centre and in a state.

In an apparent reference to the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, the CM said people with ‘parivarvadi’ (dynastic) and ‘jaativadi’ (casteist) mindset gave ‘tamanchas’ to the youth after coming to power.

“We changed this tamancha culture and provided tablets to two crore youths,” he said.

Adityanath said Aligarh is known all over the world for its locks and the BJP government is working towards its revival.

“The lock industry (of Aligarh) will be given a global platform with the help of one district one product initiative,” he said.

“Taala (locks), taaleem (education) and tehzeeb (culture) of Aligarh were once its identity. But the casteist mindset of the dynastic parties has shut down the lock industry of Aligarh, and created obstructions,” he said.

“These casteist and dynastic parties have nothing to do with education and culture. They adopted the policy of divide and rule and used it to divide society on the basis of appeasement. They made an effort to increase the gulf in society. As a result of this, there was an atmosphere of fear among the people even during festivals,” Adityanath said.

Aligarh will vote in the second phase of the urban local body polls on May 11. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Adityanath said people of the state were forced to face curfews for a long time.

“But today, you are seeing Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and India transforming. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the perception about India has changed, and Indians are seen with respect wherever they go,” he said.

“What could not be achieved in the last 60-65 years has been done in nine years. The government has worked hard to put an end to terrorism, Naxalism and separatism in the country,” he said.

Referring to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Adityanath credited the efforts of the BJP’s double-engine government to resolve a 500-year-old dispute.

“Today, Kashi Vishwanath Dhaam is being constructed in Kashi, whereas Mathura and Vrindavan are being decorated. Along with this, beautification of Naimisharanya, Vindhyavasini Dham, Lalapur of (sage) Valmiki and Rajapur of Tulsidas (both in Chitrakoot) is also underway,” he said.

The CM also said that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Airports Authority of India for the building of an airport in Aligarh.

“We are going to connect it with air service and for the extension of the airport, Rs 700 crore has already been released,” he said.

“In addition, construction of the four-lane highway from Ghaziabad to Kanpur via Aligarh is going on at a fast pace,” Adityanath said, adding that a power plant is being set up at Harduaganj which will make Aligarh the centre of energy production.

The chief minister also said that the BJP’s double-engine government has named a university after Maharaja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who fought for the country’s independence and also donated land for the Aligarh Muslim University, although there is no “shilapat (nameplate) of his in the AMU”.

Addressing a rally in Badaun, Adityanath said till six years ago, dynastic parties used to give pistols to the youth.

“The youth are becoming self-reliant as we are combining talent of Uttar Pradesh with technology and training. As a result of this, UP is rapidly becoming the growth engine of India’s development,” the CM said.

In Shahjahanpur, he said that festivals have replaced nuisance and disorder in the state of today. “The atmosphere of fear and panic is over now. People celebrate festivals peacefully and with joy. Now there is no curfew, instead Kanwar yatras are taken out peacefully,” he added.

In Bareilly, the CM said the city earlier known as a garbage dump has turned into a smart city. “Bareilly has an airport. Four-lane and six-lane roads are being constructed,” he said.

Hyderabad civic body meet ends abruptly, BJP corporators stage protest

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi adjourned the 6th General Body meeting of GHMC on Wednesday, informed an official statement by the GHMC CPRO.

Water board officials walked out of the general body meeting first and later GHMC officials boycotted the general body meeting in support of HMWSSB officials.

The BJP corporators staged a protest at the council hall at the GHMC office in Tank Bund against the officials for disrespecting the mayor and Council members.

    MS Education Academy

Later police forcefully detained them and took them into custody.

The mayor said that it was inappropriate for some corporators to protest at the water board office yesterday.

After adjourning the GHMC council meeting, she held a press conference.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that the council meeting was held late as per the wishes of the members.

The statement read, on this occasion, the mayor lashed out at the opposition corporators.

She said that she spoke to all the party leaders to make the council meeting go smoothly. She further said that the corporators have been asked to cooperate in the context of holding the meeting after five months.

The mayor said that the council meeting was organized to resolve public issues and the BJP corporators deliberately protested.

“Some BJP corporators used unparliamentary words against officials,” the mayor added.

She said that they would not have behaved like this if they really wanted the meeting to be held.

The mayor said that it is not appropriate to pelt the silt in the chamber of the woman officer and managing director at the water board office yesterday. The mayor asked the BJP corporators to change their behaviour and cooperate for the smooth running of the meeting.

Speaking to ANI, BJP corporator Akula Srivani said, “BJP protesting against the recklessness of the state government. Due to recklessness, we have lost two lives. Two children died in two days after falling into the sewer. We are questioning the GHMC. Yesterday, we went to the HMWSSB office and gifted Dana Kishore a flower pot with silt as we are suffering due to drainage silt.”

Reacting to the mayor’s allegation that it is not appropriate to put the silt in the chamber of the woman, the BJP corporator said that it is a wrong allegation, if there is anything true in it then we are sorry and demand to provide the proof. We want complete materialistic work and the safety of the people. The revenue is increasing every year but even after many years, manholes and sewers are open. We are staging protests at the GHMC council and want the Mayor to come and answer our questions.

Another BJP corporator said that it’s shameful that a water body Official boycotted the council meeting.

The officials are taking salaries from the public tax and without hearing their grievances boycotting the council is disrespecting the mayor and Council members. So BJP corporators are staging a protest here at the council hall.

Adityanath compares UP civic polls to `Deva-Asura War’

    [ad_1]

Sitapur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday termed the upcoming urban body elections as the “Deva-Asura Sangram”, a battle between the gods and their enemies, and said it is necessary to teach the corrupt and the mafia a lesson.

Addressing an election meeting ahead of the state-wide civic polls on May 4 and 11, the chief minister assured the development of the sacred Naimisharanya site in Sitapur.

“Naimisharanya will undergo a facelift on the lines of Kashi, Ayodhya and Mathura. After Naimisharanya’s rejuvenation, religious tourism will create employment opportunities in every sector,” he said in Sitapur.

    MS Education Academy

Adityanath also addressed meetings in Lakhimpur Kheri and Balrampur as part of the campaign.

He compared the civic polls to the war between the gods and the demons.

“In this land of Naimisharanya, Maharishi Dadhichi once donated his bones to make weapons for the victory of the divine forces,” he said, adding the elections provided an opportunity to teach a lesson to the corrupt and the criminals who flourished under the previous regimes in the state.

The BJP has been attacking the opposition Samajwadi Party for allegedly giving patronage to criminals when it was in power.

At another meeting, the CM said before 2017, when the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh, there was hooliganism in the state and a “goonda tax” collected from traders.

But now nobody has the courage to demand it, he said.

“Basic facilities will start to reach every home as soon as the ‘third engine’ joins the ‘double-engine government,” he said, referring to the BJP governments already in UP and at the Centre.

“The benefits of the government’s schemes will be made available to everyone without discrimination,” Adityanath added.

In Lakhimpur Kheri, he said along with facilities like four-lane roads, technical education, the area will soon have a medical college and its airstrip developed into an airport.

Lakhimpur will serve as a hub of ecotourism, which will open new avenues for the region’s development, he said.

He claimed only the BJP reached out to people during the Covid pandemic.

“We also provided a free ration facility. Whether it is welfare schemes for the poor or the infrastructure, we have taken care of everything,” he said.

Votes polled in the two-phase election will be counted on May 13. PTI

Depending on SC order, Maha civic polls could take place by Oct-Nov, claims BJP minister

    [ad_1]

Pune: Maharashtra Minister and senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil on Monday said he believed civic polls in the state would be held in October-November if the Supreme Court gives it order on reservation for Other Backward Classes as well as ward delimitation by May.

Speaking to reporters, Patil said if the decisions on these matters come by May, then delimitation and other aspects can be carried out by the Election Commission during the monsoons, when it would not be feasible to hold polls, and the civic elections can take place by October-November.

The SC will begin its one-and-half month long recess on May 9, Patil, a former state Bharatiya Janata Party chief, said.

Civic polls in Mumbai, Pune, Kalyan Dombivali, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Vasai-Virar, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, and Navi Mumbai are due since early 2022 but were not held because of the coronavirus pandemic.

These municipal corporations are currently under administrators.

Morbi Bridge tragedy: Civic body, councillors claim innocence

    [ad_1]

Morbi: The Morbi municipality on Wednesday passed a resolution saying the civic body never gave its approval to hand over a suspension bridge in the town to Oreva Group, a day after the Gujarat government sought a fresh reply to a show-cause notice over the bridge collapse that killed 135 people.

In the general board meeting held today to discuss this issue, 41 of 52 councillors of the BJP-ruled municipality submitted a separate reply asserting that the majority of the councillors were not aware of the agreement under which the bridge was handed over to Oreva Group by the municipality for maintenance and operation.

The Gujarat government had on Tuesday asked the Morbi municipality to submit a fresh reply to a show-cause notice as to why it should not be dissolved for failing to discharge its duties before the collapse of the bridge that claimed 135 lives last year.

The Urban Development Department had said in a letter to the chief of the municipality that the civic body should submit a written reply, duly approved by its general body, by February 16.

The show-cause notice was issued on January 18 and the state did not accept a reply dated February 7 sent by the municipality’s lawyer.

In view of the government’s new deadline, the municipality had called an urgent general body meeting on Wednesday, said N K Muchhal, in-charge chief officer of Morbi.

“During today’s meeting, two separate replies, one from the civic body and another from councillors, were submitted. These replies will be sent to the state government for further action,” Muchhal told reporters after the meeting.

Jayrajsinh Jadeja, vice president of the municipality, said the office bearers of the civic body, including the president, vice president and standing committee chairman, are “innocent” because the proposal and subsequent agreement to hand over the bridge to Oreva Group in March last year was never approved through a general board meeting.

“We are not guilty because the agreement to hand over the bridge to Oreva Group was never discussed or approved in the general board meeting. Moreover, we have also mentioned in our reply that Morbi municipality was ruled by Congress when the first agreement was approved by the board (in 2007) for the maintenance of the bridge,” said Jadeja.

On behalf of the 41 councillors, Bhavik Jaria told reporters that 49 of 52 councillors were not aware of the agreement signed by the Morbi municipality with Oreva Group in March last year for the maintenance and operation of the bridge.

“In our reply, we have stated that 49 of 52 councillors were not aware of this agreement. As per the law, the municipality’s permission is needed for such agreements. But, we were not informed about it. Even the Special Investigation Team (SIT) never said in its findings that the entire civic body was responsible for this tragedy,” said Jaria.

The ill-fated bridge, which collapsed on October 30 last year, was maintained and operated by Oreva Group under an agreement signed with the Morbi municipality.

In its show-cause notice of January 18, the government wanted to know why the civic body did not take note of the issues raised by Oreva Group between 2018 and 2020 about the dilapidated condition of the bridge and the possibility of a serious accident if it remained open to the public.

Moreover, the municipality did not take any concrete action to take over the bridge from the company in 2017 after the completion of the previous contract despite knowing the situation of the bridge, the notice said.

The state government had on December 13 told the Gujarat High Court during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) that it had decided to dissolve the municipality.

    [ad_1]

Gurugram: At least 35 candidates have showed interest in contesting the upcoming Manesar Municipal Corporation (MCM) elections in Gurugram on BJP ticket.

The civic body comprises a total of 20 wards, and is expected to go to the poll in March-April.

Apart from this, over a dozen of contestants have come forward for the Mayor’s election, a party source claimed.

For the first time, the Mayor in Manesar will be elected directly through the municipal polls.

These candidates also submitted their bio-data during a recently held meeting chaired by Haryana former Education Minister and Election in-charge of MCM Ram Bilas Sharma.

In a few wards, not even a single contestant came forward, while the party was expecting that it would get at least four to five claimants in each ward, but it did not happen, the sources elaborated.

The election in-charge of MCM on Saturday said: “The dedicated workers will be given a strong hold on the upcoming corporation elections.”

“For this, an internal survey will be conducted, and based on the report, the organisation will start ticket distribution,” he said.

“During the meeting, bio-data of the workers willing to contest the mayor’s election were sought from Manesar Corporation. More than a dozen workers have submitted their profiles before the senior party leader,” Sharma said.

The former minister said, “The election date will be decided by the Election Commission, but the party organisation is fully prepared for the upcoming Manesar Corporation Elections.”

Morbi civic body gets fresh notice on supersession issue

Morbi: The state Urban Development Department has issued a fresh notice to the Morbi Nagar Palika, asking it to explain why it should not be superseded.

The nagar palika members have decided to reply to the notice latest by Wednesday.

Former president of the Morbi Nagar Palika and present chairman of the Public Welfare Department Committee, Devabhai Avadia told IANS, “On Saturday, nagar palika received 47 pages SIT report sent by the state urban development, and has asked that now you have documents related to the suspension bridge collapse case, give a detailed explanation why the nagar palika should not be superseded? Either individual members or only the president or more than one member may submit the explanation by Wednesday.”

“Last time, when the urban development had issued a notice, the nagar palika general board had passed a resolution stating that in absence of documents related to the suspension bridge, it can’t reply,” he said.

The state government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police to investigate the collapse of the suspension bridge on the Machchhu river on October 30 in which 132 persons, including 35 children, were killed.

In this connection, the state government has stated before the High Court that it will supersede Morbi Nagar Palika after holding it responsible for the bridge collapse. In a follow-up to this submission, the state has initiated the process of superseding the nagar palika.
