  • Delhi AIIMS to partner with other city hospitals for referral of patients

Delhi AIIMS to partner with other city hospitals for referral of patients

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will partner with other government hospitals in the national capital for referral of patients to optimally utilise vacant beds in other hospitals, it was announced on Friday.

Lt Governor V.K. Saxena held a meeting with AIIMS Director Dr. M Srinivas, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and other officials to evolve a formal system for referral of patients. As the premier health organisation AIIMS always suffer acute shortage of beds, the pact will optimally utilise vacant beds in other government hospitals where critical but stable patients from AIIMS could be referred for further treatment.

The new system will also ensure that patients who require primary and secondary healthcare services go to the other hospitals and chronic and critically ill patients get specialied treatment at the AIIMS.

Under the pilot project, the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka and NDMC’s Charak Palika Hospital will be taken on-board and paired with the AIIMS starting next month.

The AIIMS will support these hospitals in terms of expertise and critical infrastructure and patients from the AIIMS could be referred to these hospitals in case of unavailability of beds. Gradually, other government hospitals and healthcare centres will be roped in and developed as ‘Partner Institutions’ of AIIMS, to cater to the local population in different localities of Delhi.

The aim is to develop super-specialty hospitals in different localities of the capital so that the burden on AIIMS could reduce and simultaneously people across the city could access healthcare near their homes at par with what they would have got at the AIIMS.

The LG has directed the Health Department to carry out a gap analysis of available beds in all its major hospitals within a week. It was also directed to develop a centralised dashboard where the availability of beds in all government hospitals in the city will be available on a real time basis.

  • Thousands join clean Yamuna drive in Taj city

Thousands join clean Yamuna drive in Taj city

    [ad_1]

Agra: The vanishing ghats of the Yamuna were cleaned and the river bed was made litter-free by scores of volunteers of the Nirankari Mission in Agra.

The dry and polluted river, without any fresh water, continues to remain a major threat to the Mughal monuments along its banks. River activists said the state and the successive Union governments showed no sense of urgency to desilt and dredge the river to revive it and support its aquatic life.

The volunteers, men, women, and children armed with gloves, spades, baskets and tractor trolleys, spent several hours picking up the garbage, mostly used polythene, plastic waste, and leather cuttings. Several tonnes of litter were cleared and transported to the municipal dump yards, the organisers said.

The action started early at the Etmauddaula viewpoint park, Balkeshwar Ghat, Hathi Ghat, Poiya Ghat and Kailash under the supervision of the Mission’s zonal chief Kanta Mahendru.

“Our hearts should be clean and also our surroundings, the rivers, the wells, and ponds,” she said.

Over the years, Yamuna has been reduced to a vast ‘sewage canal’ as all the freshwater is consumed by Haryana and Delhi.

“What flows down the river as it enters Uttar Pradesh is a combination of sewer, industrial effluents, and discharges from the drains. In Agra alone, more than a hundred drains open into the river, though the Supreme Court and the NGT have directed the local authorities to divert or tap the drains,” lamented environmentalist Devashish Bhattacharya.

Agra’s drinking water problem has been largely solved by the 130 km long pipeline from Bulandshahar district, which brings 150 cusecs of Ganga water. Ten cusecs of water go to Mathura while Agra gets 140 cusecs.

But the Yamuna is crucial to Agra, not only as it’s the city’s lifeline, but also to sustain monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Etmauddaula, Ram Bagh, etc.

“A dry and polluted river raises the air pollution levels in the city as dry dust from the river bed hits the monuments,” said members of the River Connect Campaign.

  • Journalists, police clash at Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan’s Lahore city

Journalists, police clash at Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan’s Lahore city

    [ad_1]

Lahore: Chaos descended upon the Gaddafi Stadium, which was hosting a PSL cricket match, after a group of journalists were denied entry to the venue by police officials for wearing masks in solidarity with the slain journalist Arshad Sharif.

Sharif, 49, a former reporter and TV anchor with ARY TV, was shot dead in Nairobi on October 23 last year under mysterious circumstances, sending shockwaves across Pakistan.

On Sunday, television anchor Imran Riaz and his friends donning masks with the picture of Sharif were stopped by police from entering the Gaddafi Stadium, the venue of a PSL-8 match, despite having tickets.

The situation quickly escalated after Riaz and his friends began to chant slogans to show their solidarity with Sharif.

Video clips showed police officials and the journalists engaged in heated arguments after the police surrounded them and asked them to surrender their masks before entering the stadium.

In the video, a police inspector was seen shouting to the journalists that wearing the mask showing the face’ of Sharif on the premises of the stadium was a clear violation of the regulations of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Soon, a scuffle broke out between the police officials and the journalists.

“By wearing Arshad Sharif’s masks, we wanted to show solidarity with him and his family and seek justice for him,” Riaz was quoted as saying by the Dawn newspaper.

In August last year, Sharif was booked on charges of sedition for interviewing former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s close aide Shehbaz Gill.

In the interview, Gill criticised the Shehbaz Sharif government for trying to pitch Khan against the country’s powerful Army. Sharif subsequently fled the country.

A month after he left Pakistan, ARY TV fired Sharif, saying he had repeatedly criticised the military on social media in violation of the company’s policy.

In October last year, he was shot dead in Nairobi, in what the Kenyan authorities claim was a case of “mistaken identity.”

But in December last year, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered the federal government to constitute a special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the case after the initial investigation revealed the murder was “premeditated.”

Sharif was awarded the Pride of Performance’ in 2019 by Pakistan President Arif Alvi.
