    SRINAGAR: A man who had been missing for the past few days was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Reasi on Wednesday.

    According to a police officer, the body of Rahul Sharma, son of Ramesh Chander and a resident of Gadal Reasi, was discovered in the Sermegha area of Tehsil Bhomag in the Reasi district.

    The officer further stated that legal and medical formalities have been conducted on the body and it has been handed over to the legal heirs.

    Reasi police have initiated an investigation into the matter. (KS)

    SRINAGAR: A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Karnah area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

    An official said that unidentified female body was spotted by some locals under mysterious conditions at Sulmanpadi Karnah following which police was informed.

    He said that police rushed to the spot and took dead body into their custody for legal-medico formalities while identification is being ascertained.

    Meanwhile inquest proceedings U/s 174 CRPC has been initiated. (KS)

    Vizag Steel Plant official dies under suspicious circumstances

    Visakhapatnam: An official of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has died under suspicious circumstances, sources said here on Tuesday.

    T. V. V. Prasad (50), working as Deputy General Manager in the Production, Planning and Monitoring (PPM) department, was found dead while on duty on Monday.

    The officer reportedly collapsed and died while going to his office chamber on the third floor of the building. Other employees rushed him to the primary health centre and from there he was taken to Steel General Hospital but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

    Prasad had been associated with VSP since 1995.

    Deputy General Manager Sahadev Kumar lodged a complaint with the police. VSP police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and took up investigation.

    SRINAGAR: A 28-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Tengan Nowgam area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Wednesday morning.

    Quoting a police officer, KNO reported that an unidentified body was spotted by locals in Tengan area of Nowgam, who subsequently informed the local police.

    Police rushed to the spot and dispatched the body to SMHS hospital for medico-legal formalities.

    The deceased was later identified as Suhail Rehman Beigh, resident of Karfali Mohalla, Nawab Bazaar.

    As the body of Suhail Rehman Beigh reached his residence in Nawab Bazar this evening, a pall of gloom descended the entire area.

    Family members of Suhail while demanding justice for his alleged murder said, “Suhail dropped his father near Habba Kadal in Srinagar on Monday, and soon after that he went missing.”

    “In the morning, we were shocked when we saw his photographs circulating on social media,” they added.

    Wife of the deceased said that she was at her home when she received the shocking news. “His phone was switched off for last two days, and I was very worried and tense about his whereabouts.”

    “We would like to request the administration and all the concerned officials to investigate this matter on a priority basis and give us justice,” she added.

    Police said that the body recovered under mysterious circumstances also had an injury mark and investigation in this regard has been initiated.(GNS)

    Jammu, March 8 (GNS): Body of a 50-year-old woman was found under mysterious circumstances in Poonch district on Wednesday, officials said.

    They told GNS that the body was found by police in an open field near Ari Bridge at Mendhar area of the Poonch district this morning.

    The deceased was later identified as Shahmim Akhter (50) wife of Mohammad Ashraf of Ari village.

    Meanwhile, police shifted the body to Sub District Hospital Mendhar for autopsy, they said. “We have started inquest proceedings,” a police officer told GNS. (GNS)

    JAMMU: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta on Tuesday in a meeting with traffic authorities made it amply clear that in no case should travel time between the two capital cities of the UT exceed beyond 7 hours on any day for light motor vehicles.

    He made these remarks in a meeting called to review the traffic scenario on this road including that of the two cities.

    The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Home; Principal Secretary, PWD; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; IG Traffic; Secretary, Transport; Deputy Commissioners Anantnag/ Ramban; SP Traffic,  National Highway; District SPs, Jammu/ Srinagar/ Anantnag/ Ramban; Transport Commissioner and many other concerned officers.

    Dr Mehta enjoined upon the traffic authorities to submit daily reports about the actual time taken to reach from one city to another. He told them to enhance their personnel on all the damaged portions of the road for better traffic management. He urged them not to let the traffic come to halt due to any of the hindrance. He asked them to improve the road surface damaged due to weather vagaries at all costs for smooth movement of the vehicles on this road.

    The Chief Secretary impressed upon them to show zero tolerance towards road side parking hindering traffic flow.  He directed for having stringent regulations in place to deal with all the violators. He asked them to deploy traffic police personnel in busy places like markets etcfor continuous vigil and better traffic management on the highway.

    Dr Mehta also took stock of the construction works on different projects presently under progress. He exhorted upon them to make all out efforts to through open the T5 tunnel on Panthiyal stretch of the highway by March 15, Jaiswal Bridge by March 31, and double lane of Ramban Flyover and Banihal Bye-pass by 15th of April this year. He advised them to accelerate the pace of work to meet these deadlines without any fail. He also asked the Secretary Transport and IG Traffic to drive down this road for have better idea about the measures to be taken for making the road better and safe.

    The Chief Secretary also emphasized on making all the way side amenities like washrooms etc functional throughout the entire stretch of the highway. He enquired about the status of the truck holding areas designated at many locations on this road. He told them to look for one more such facility at Ramsoo also. He suggested them to come up with a DPR for additional Bailey Bridge near Ramban at an earliest so that work on the same is taken in hand by March this year.

    While reviewing the traffic scenario on the roads of the two capital cities, the Chief Secretary directed the concerned authorities to make the completed phase of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) functional within 7 days. He asked them to use the CCTV network of the system to look for the violators and e-challan or tow away their vehicles for hassle-free movement of vehicles on city roads.

    On the request of the Traffic authorities the Chief Secretary asked the administration to look into the possibility of taking a traffic holiday for a day every week on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway till 15th of March so that it is better utilized for making some crucial repairs and completing few essential works for making travel on this road a  pleasant  experience for the commuters.

  • Elderly Man Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances

    SRINAGAR:  A 60-year-old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home here on Tuesday, officials said.

    Quoting officials news agency GNS reported that one Mushtaq Ahmad son of Hassan Mohammad, a resident of Mendhar, was found lying unconscious and later on declared dead.

    The body, they said, was shifted to SDH Mendhar for post-mortem.

    Confirming the death of the person, SHO Gursai Farooq Ahmad said that investigations under section 174 CRPC have been initiated.
