RTE Act 2009: Private Schools To Provide Free and Compulsory Education To Children From Disadvantaged Sections

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: The School Education Department Tuesday sought list of all private schools functioning from government land and ordered its management to compulsorily provide free education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections.

Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), in a communique has directed all the  Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of the region to implement the free and compulsory education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections by private unaided schools under section 12 (1) C of RTE Act 2009.

DSEK said that RTE, Act Section 12 (1) C envisages that all private unaided schools have the responsibility to dispense and provide free education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections and admit at least one-fourth that is 25 percent of the total strength of class-I or pre-school education.

It further said, “All those private schools which are functioning on state land shall compulsorily admit the 25 percent of students from weaker section of their catchment area by properly publicizing the admission.”

The director of the region in this regard has requested all the CEOs to immediately furnish the list of all Private Schools functioning on the state land immediately.

Pertinently, the section 12 (1) (c) of the RTE Act, 2009 fixes the responsibility of private unaided schools to provide free and compulsory education to children from weaker and disadvantaged sections by admitting at least one- fourth of the total strength of class I or pre-school education. • Embracing a childfree life – podcast

    [ad_1]

Helen Pidd, the Guardian’s north of England editor, had always wanted to be a mother. The moment she realised that her third round of IVF had failed was devastating.

“I couldn’t see beyond how sad I felt,” she tells Hannah Moore.

Since then, she’s been trying to imagine what the next part of her life might look like by speaking to people who are childfree by choice.

Pidd speaks to 80-year-old Marcia Drut-Davis, author of Confessions of a Childfree Woman, who lost her job as a teacher after speaking on television about her choice not to have children. Asked what advice she gives to childfree people, Drut-Davis recommends good financial planning and emphasises the importance of “heart connections” with younger people.

Pidd also interviews Zoë Noble and James Glazebrook, the founders of the We Are Childfree network, and Lise Scott, a nanny who does not want children of her own.

“I hope that in talking about it and being open about how painful it can be, but also offering this kind of optimistic vision, that it might touch other people who have also felt alone and give them a bit of hope that all is not lost if you can’t have children and you wanted to,” Pidd says.

Organs of minor declared brain dead give new lease of life to 2 children

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The family of a nine-year-old boy who was declared brain dead at AIIMS, Delhi following a head injury donated his organs giving a new lease of life to two children.

The parents of the child admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre after suffering a severe head injury in a road accident on April 15 gave consent to donate the minor’s organs following counselling.

The minor passed away on April 21.

    MS Education Academy

This is the fifth paediatric donation (in the 1-6 years of age group) amongst 19 donations to have taken place at JPN apex trauma centre, AIIMS, here since last April.

Children are a very special group and need targeted approaches for brain death certification, maintenance of donor organs after brain death, subsequent organ retrievals and transplantations, Dr Deepak Gupta, Professor of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, Delhi.

There is a large unmet need for organs by children suffering from end-stage diseases of the kidney, liver and heart across India and training of doctors in transplants in children needs to be reinforced at regular intervals.

“Incidentally, 6 year old Master S was born with only one kidney (as was confirmed on CT and USG abdomen) and hence only one kidney was retrieved to be transplanted to another boy at AIIMS Delhi, while liver was transplanted at ILBS to another 16-year-old boy in Delhi as per allocation by NOTTO,” Dr Gupta said.

National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation is an organisation set up under the Directorate General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Both corneas retrieved by the RP Centre Eye bank team will be used to give new vision to patients in need at AIIMS in subsequent days, he said, adding that heart valves were also retrieved for later usage.

However, the heart and lungs were not found to be suitable for transplantation by a team of experts from NOTTO.

The entire process of brain death certification, donor organ management and counselling for consent and further retrievals was coordinated by a team of doctors, paramedic support staff from the Organ Procurement team (OPT), Organ retrieval banking organisation (ORBO) of AIIMS, transplant team of doctors and support staff from the hospital, said Dr Aarti Vij, Head of ORBO at AIIMS said.

Talking about the challenges involving organ donations from very young donors, Dr Gupta said the Biggest myth amongst many is that organ donations can be done only between the 18-60 years of age group.

Organs can be harvested for donations after a patient has been declared brain dead irrespective of age. For a patient, a set of 2 tests by a team of 4 doctors are conducted 6 hours apart in adults and 12 hours apart in children, giving new life to an average of 8 patients after due informed consent by relatives of the patient.

“It is true that many neonatal donors are too small to recover organs for transplantation (especially those younger than a year), finding suitable recipients in such young donors can be a challenge too. Donations and subsequent successful transplantations have been reported from India even in children younger than 1 year of age,” he said.

Over 40% children in 6 states of India never used technology for learning: Survey

    [ad_1]

Delhi: More than 40 per cent of students in six states have never used technology for learning while around 8 percent have stopped using it, according to a survey conducted by the Central Square Foundation.

Under the Bharat Survey for EdTech (BaSE), more than 6,000 households in six states — Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh — were surveyed covering 9,867 children.

“Forty-one per cent children across surveyed households had never used technology for learning, and eight per cent had discontinued using it. Urban households had a higher prevalence of ‘present users’.

    MS Education Academy

“The secondary (72 per cent) and middle (55 per cent) grades had the highest proportion of ‘present users’ compared to primary grades (39 per cent),” according to the survey report released at an education conclave here on Tuesday.

The survey pointed out that YouTube was found to be the most popular tool used for learning purposes (89 per cent), followed by WhatsApp (62 per cent) and Google (52 per cent). Overall, the prevalence of low-tech tools was low, which included text messages (8 per cent), TV (7 per cent) and interactive voice response (7 per cent).

“English (84 per cent) and Mathematics (76 per cent) were the most studied subjects using EdTech tools. Further, with increasing grades, higher usage of EdTech tools to study Science/EVS, English, Language, Coding, and GK was reported,” the survey found.

More than half the children (53 per cent) used EdTech tools because of the ease of understanding of complicated topics.

“Other prominent reasons highlighted for the use of EdTech tools included self-paced learning’ (47 pc) and doubt clarification’ (42 pc),” it stated.

At the level of state, Gujarat (95 pc) and Madhya Pradesh (59 pc) found availability of vernacular content most helpful compared to Odisha (12 pc), Uttar Pradesh (8 pc), Telangana (5 pc), and Mizoram (0.3 pc), it said.

The survey found that among children who were currently not using technology for learning, 61 per cent cited reopening of schools after the coronavirus-induced lockdown as the most prominent reason.

“Thirty per cent of respondents cited the availability of other learning avenues (such as tuition) as the reason for not using technology for learning,” it said.

Muslim man poisons children, kills self after UP officials threaten to demolish home

    [ad_1]

A 50-year-old man named Mohammed Saleem, a resident of Shadi ki Madaiyan, Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh consumed poison along with his two children aged eight and six on Friday after administration sleuths arbitrarily informed him his house would be demolished.

The man and his daughter died on Saturday morning however, his son survived and is admitted to a local hospital.

The tragic incident took place after revenue officials allegedly visited Saleem’s house and told him that his house would be bulldozed as it was allegedly built on government land.

    MS Education Academy

The deceased was working at a tyre repair shop in his locality.

According to the locals, in 2016, Saleem purchased land for Rs 1,90,00 and built a house on it.

According to a report published in The Times of India, the land he purchased, used to be part of a dried-up pond.

Notably, 20 other people had purchased land next to Saleem which is part of the dried-up pond. They were unaware that the land was given on lease to the seller by the revenue department.

“In 2021, Saleem along with 20 people were served legal notices by the court of tehsildar in which they were asked that their houses have encroached on Garam Samaj land, however, the case related it is still pending in court and no further order was delivered as yet,” Sub-divisional Magistrate Nirankar Singh was quoted by TOI.

As per a TOI report, Mehtab Jahan, wife of Saleem, claimed that several officials visited their house and told her husband that their house would be demolished soon as per court order.

She further alleged that previously they had received a notice from the tehsildar court demanding them a ransom of Rs 64 lakh.

“I have lost my daughter and husband. I want justice from the government,” she said.

Relative of Saleem alleged that, on Thursday, the revenue officials took Saleem’s thumbprint on some documents however, the officials are denying it now.

“As Saleem is not a reader, they took his thumbprint on some documents, nothing of which he understood,” said a relative.

Watch: Mumbai preschool teacher manhandles children in anger, 2 booked

    [ad_1]

In a horrific incident, a video has surfaced on social media where a CCTV camera caught a preschool child being forcibly dragged by his angry teacher.

The incident reportedly took place in Kandavalli, Mumbai. Based on a complaint by a father of a two-year-old child, two teachers have been booked by the police.

The video shows how children, less than three years of age, are dragged on the ground, thrown, slapped and at times pinched by teachers.

    MS Education Academy

According to police, the teachers assaulted the children between January 1 to March 27.

The 35-year-old man, whose child was also assaulted stated in his complaint that his son had attended the preschool ever since its inception. There are 28 children registered.

“They too told me that they had noticed changes in their children’s behaviour, who had become aggressive at home,” the complaint said.

The father was initially told by the preschool, authorities that the changes could be due to indulging in “some wrong activities”. However, on persuasion by the father, they checked the CCTV image and saw the horror the children were undergoing every day.

“The parents sought a copy of the CCTV footage from the playschool after which they approached the police to lodge a complaint,” a police officer said.

Autism is the world’s third most common developmental disability, a neurological illness that usually manifests by the age of three. Roughly one per cent of the world’s population is born with Autism, that is more than 75 million children globally.

    MS Education Academy

They often face challenges in traditional learning environments due to difficulties with communication, socialization, and sensory processing.

CognitiveBotics provides a unique gamified learning environment for an effective and engaging learning experience that can positively impact the growth and development of children with ASD.

The platform is designed to augment therapy and keep children engaged with home-based activities between sessions. The child’sprogress can be tracked and measured by the therapist remotely and timely feedback is provided.

The platform is therapy agnostic and covers all aspects such as behavior, speech, language, occupational, social, and emotional.
CognitiveBotics provides numerous benefits to children with ASD, including the ability to:

    • Learn in a safe and supportive environment
    • Receive tailored learning experiences that meet their unique needs
    • Improve their communication, social, and cognitive skills
    • Develop greater independence and confidence in learning
Therapists are at the core of our business and we believe in building long-term relationships that result in mutual growth. Partnering with CognitiveBotics offers several advantages to therapists and educators, including the ability to:

    • Retain and build a strong client base, with increased earning potential
    • Monitor and track the child’s progress remotely and provide individualized learning plan

The inspiration behind the company’s creation is personal for the founders Udaya Dintyala and Meenakshi, who are also proud parents of a son with ASD.

Their son’s journey has taught them the power of perseverance, and today, they are thrilled that he has graduated and is living an almost independent life.

Through their personal experience, they understood the challenges that come with raising a child with ASD. So, they combined their expertise in technology to create a make-in-India product that complements therapy and supports parents to give a better learning environment to children with ASD across the world.

“Our team has spent years in research and developed the platform to provide the most effective and engaging learning experiences for children with Autism,” said Srinivas Punnamaraju, CEO of CognitiveBotics Technologies.

“We are excited to launch our platform and offer a new way to support the growth and development of children with ASD. CognitiveBotics brings hope and joy to millions of children and their families across the world.”
