    New Delhi: The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 2 and the final of the ongoing Indian Premier League on May 26 and 28 respectively, the BCCI said on Friday.

    Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium will stage the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on May 23 and 24 respectively, the IPL said in its advisory after the sport’s apex body in the country finalised the schedule for the league four biggest matches.

    The 16th IPL began on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s biggest cricketing arena. The venue also hosted the final of the league’s last edition in 2022.

    The 2022 edition was played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune but the play-offs and the final were held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

    In this edition, the league reverted to the usual home and away format.

    The league phase concludes on May 21 with a clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans in Bengaluru.

    Bengaluru: Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs in their Indian Premier League match here on Monday.

    Set an imposing target of 227, RCB looked on course until the departure of Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36 balls) and skipper Faf du Plessis (62 off 33) in quick succession. The duo added 126 runs for the third wicket to raise hopes of an RCB victory.

    Earlier, CSK scored 226 for six after being asked to bat first.

    Opener Devon Conway struck 83 off 45 deliveries and was involved in a 74-run partnership for the second wicket with Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 20 balls).

    Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the state-of-the-art New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at the Chennai Airport.

    Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the about Rs 1,260 crore NITB in the presence of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan and others.

    Along with the existing terminals, the airport will cater to a combined annual capacity of 30 MPPA (million passengers per annum) from the present capacity of 23MPPA and 35 MPPA with completion of phase II.

    The NITB Phase I spanning over an area of 1,36,295 Sq.m boasts of an impressive array of airport amenities. With 100 check-in counters, 108 immigration counters,17 elevators, 17 escalators, 06 baggage reclaim belts, and more with which passengers are guaranteed a seamless experience inside the terminal.

    The NITB with 2,20,972 Sqm. area is envisaged in two phases at a cost of Rs 2,467 crore.

    Earlier, Modi was welcomed by Governor Ravi and Chief Minister Stalin and others.

    Chennai: The Chennai police have arrested an assistant professor of the Kalakshetra Foundation accused of sexually abusing his students.

    The accused, Hari Padman, who was absconding after he returned back to Chennai from a study tour to Hyderabad, was arrested in the early hours of Monday.

    Police sources told IANS that he was arrested from a house in the city’s Madhavaram area.

    Hari Padman has been charged under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 509 (use of words, gestures, or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Women Harassment Act.

    The case was registered after a former girl student of the accused lodged a complaint with an All Woman police station under the Greater Chennai Police.

    She alleged that Hari Padman used to send her obscene messages and had physically abused her while she was studying at the institute. The victim further claimed that she discontinued her studies following his physical abuse.

    The students of the institute had sent a letter to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Culture, that current and former students of the institute had faced verbal and physical abuse in the institution.

    Repertory artists of the institute Sanjit Lal, Sai Krishnan, and Sreenath have also been charged under the case.

    The students had formed a union with Jisma K.K as president and Shakthi Shivani as secretary and have also charged the director of the institute, Revathi Ramachandran, and head of the dance department, Jyotsna Menon of having body shamed and hurled casteist remarks against them.

    Chennai: Chennai police have registered an FIR against an assistant professor of an arts college belonging to the Kalakshetra Foundation, after a former girl student filed a sexual harassment complaint.

    The assistant professor, Hari Padman, was booked under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Woman Act.

    The Adayar All women police registered the FIR against Hari Padman after the girl student met the Chennai city police commissioner Shankar Jiswal who promptly forwarded the complaint to the Adayar Women Police station.

    Hundreds of girls from the Kalakshetra Foundation conducted a sit-in dharna on Friday complaining of sexual harassment and sending obscene messages against four male faculty members.

    Addressing reporters here, the Tamil Nadu Women’s Commission chairperson A.S. Kumari said that several complaints were received from girl students against teachers on sexual harassment.

    The chairperson also met several students and teachers as well as the director of the Kalakshetra foundation, Revathi Ramachandran.

    It is to be noted that several girl students have in private said that they were not able to go to the institution for fear of being sexually harassed.

    The girl students have also complained to the Union Ministry of Culture about the harassment meted out to them and requested for stern action against those responsible.

    Chaos prevailed at a popular cinema hall in Chennai, Tamil Nadu after its staff allegedly stopped a tribal family from entering its premises.

    In a viral video that is being shared across social media platforms, the family, belonging to the indigenous Narikuravar community (Scheduled Tribe), was stopped at the gates by a staff member of Rohini Silver Screens even after purchasing a ticket.

    They had come to watch the Silambarasan starrer Pathu Thala.

    People gathered around and questioned the staff on the treatment of the family. However, the staff did not let them in.

    The video soon went viral on Twitter evoking strong reactions and a call to boycott the theatre. Owing to the pressure, the theatre management issued a statement clarifying the incident.

    “A woman along with children who had come with valid tickets sought entry to the cinema to watch Pathu Thala movie. As we know the movie is censored U/A by the authorities,” the statement reads.

    The statement mentioned that since the children were below 12 years, the family was not permitted.

    “Our ticket checking staff has denied entry on this basis to the family which had come with children aged 2,6,8 and 10 years,” the statement read.

    “However, since the audience gathered turned into a frenzy and took a different perspective of the situation without full understanding, to avert any law and order problem and the same family was allowed entry to watch the movie on time,” the statement said.

    Later, the theatre management released a video of the family enjoying the action flick.
