Religious leaders can change mindset of those involved in violence: Bommai

    [ad_1]

Chickmagalur: With violence and militancy are happening in present times in the name of religion, the mindset of those who are involved in such activities has to be changed, and that can be done only by religious leaders, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday.

In his speech after inaugurating Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya Jayanthi Yugamanotsava, Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Maharathotsava, and the foundation stone for the 51-foot tall statue of Sri Renukacharya here, he said it is lucky that they have Rambhapuri in south India just like Kashi in north India.

The preaching, ideology, and culture of Jagadguru Renukacharya are a strong foundation for a bright future, he said, adding that the pontiff always propagated the ‘Manava Dharma’ saying that those who tread the path of truth and act to their conscience are the real human beings.

The Siddartha Shikamani shows several ways to keep their mind in control. They must adopt these two in their lives. The seers are undertaking the campaign continuously to remove differences among the castes and communities, and for the establishment of social harmony, ommai said.

The CM said Sri Jagadguru is playing an important role in creating awareness about the religion. Former CM, B.S.Yediyurappa, irrespective of caste or community, released the grants to the Rambhapuri Peet, Kaginele Gurupeeta, development of Baada (the birthplace of Saint Kanakadasa), and Rs 40 crore for Haj Bhavan. The mutts are offering shelter, food, and education to the children. This has helped in the development of the state, he added.

Bommai said everyone must understand that it is possible to ensure world peace only through religion. The need of the hour is to build an equal society. It is a matter of happiness that the Jagadguru Renukacharya award has been presented to Yediyurappa in recognition of his contribution to the people.

  • I want to be part of the change in Indian tennis: Sania Mirza

I want to be part of the change in Indian tennis: Sania Mirza

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The retired Sania Mirza on Saturday said she wants to be a part of the change in Indian tennis and is open to joining sports administration or even become a coach in future.

The 36-year-old from Hyderabad bowed out of international tennis after a first round defeat at the WTA Dubai Duty Free Championships along with American partner Madison Keys last month.

“At this moment, I want to take a break. But I don’t know. I would be very open to the fact that I would like to see a change. Just wanting to see a change, a change does not happen. You have to try and be part of the change,” she told reporters.

“I am happy to be part of the change in whatever capacity that’s possible. I cannot commit to a timeline of when I want to do that. But it is something that I am open to. It’s not something I am against.”

Sania will play two exhibition matches as part of her farewell on Sunday at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here.

“Like I said, if I want to stand on the court and coach. I don’t know. I never say never for things. Because, I don’t know these things. But, I am very open.

“For example, Karman Kaur Thandi was in Dubai last month and she was practicing for two weeks at one of my academies. I was helping her for two weeks.

“I was very happy to do that…Whether I want to do that on a full time basis or not, I don’t know as of now, but I am open to helping,” she added.

Sania, who won six Grand Slam titles, including three women’s doubles with Swiss legend Martina Hingis, said a proper system can only produce champions.

“We need a system to support these young girls. If we have a solid system in place we can produce champions.

“We can’t produce champions every 20, 30 years, we have to produce them every year. If we put a system in place, we can do that. If we want to send our kids to sports, literally there is no one here to go to,” she said.

Talking about the reasons which prompted her to quit, Sania said: “Well, my body… I have had so many surgeries. That is taking me 45 minutes to warm up before the actual warm-up of the match. The physio is working on me more time than I am actually on the tennis court.

“I have had a 20-year long career. I wanted to finish on my own terms. I want to finish when I am still playing well. I want to finish when I am on top. I also want different things in life now.

“And the most important thing is, I would like to spend more time with my son… I feel like my priorities are different today.”

  • Change for a ‘new engine’: Kejriwal at first AAP poll rally in Karnataka

Change for a ‘new engine’: Kejriwal at first AAP poll rally in Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Davangere: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed to the people of poll-bound Karnataka to give his Aam Aadmi Party a chance to give a corruption-free government for five years.

He also promised to give free electricity, quality education in government schools and good healthcare for the state’s people.

Addressing his maiden election public meeting in Karnataka, the AAP supremo said the party has zero tolerance for corruption as a minister and an MLA in party-ruled Punjab were jailed.

“We are staunch honest. We will give a corruption-free government. We will give free electricity, build good government schools and provide quality education,” Kejriwal said.

Assembly elections are due in Karnataka by May.

The AAP chief alleged that corruption in the state doubled since the last assembly polls in 2018 and urged the people to vote in a ‘new engine’ government by throwing out the ‘double-engine’ regime of the BJP.

Taking a dig at the ruling BJP in Karnataka, Kejriwal alleged that there is a 40 per cent commission government running in the state.

“The people of Karnataka are good but the leaders are not. They defamed and destroyed the state before the world. There is a 40 per cent commission government here in which 40 per cent cut is taken in every public work,” Kejriwal alleged.

In this context, he mentioned the recovery of Rs 8.23 crore unaccounted cash from Channagiri BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa’s son Prashanth Kumar M V.

“Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah came to Karnataka and appealed to the people to give absolute majority in the upcoming assembly election so that a corruption-free government can be established in the state. Then, someone reminded him that already there is a BJP government in the state. I want to ask him why you could not eradicate corruption in the last four years,” the Delhi Chief Minister said.

He said the very next day after Shah flew back to Delhi, a BJP MLA’s son was caught with crores of unaccounted cash.

“That MLA and his son who hail from Davangere have not been arrested yet. Instead, Manish Sisodia was arrested,” Kejriwal said referring to Delhi Deputy CM Sisodia’s arrest by the CBI in the excise policy scam case.

He added that the raids at Sisodia’s house could not yield anything.

“They (BJP) alleged that Sisodia hushed up hundreds of crores of rupees. If that was true, then at least some crore of rupees should have been found but only Rs 10,000 was found,” Kejriwal claimed.

Taking a jibe at the BJP, the Delhi Chief Minister said the MLA in the dock may be given Padma Bhushan award next year. “All the criminals be it thieves, robbers, rowdies or rapists are absorbed in the BJP,” he further claimed.

After the BJP formed governments in Nagaland and Tripura and formed a coalition government in Meghalaya, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech during the victory celebrations in Delhi asked people to stay away from ‘staunch honest people’, Kejriwal said.

“We did not fight the election in these three states but the Prime Minister mentioned us. He asked people to stay away from staunch honest people. He is afraid of us,” the Delhi Chief Minister said.

He ‘advised’ Modi not to be jealous of “AAP, the fastest growing party”. “Learn from us. You too become honest just like us,” the AAP supremo quipped.

Stating that AAP is a ‘staunch honest’ party, Kejriwal said raids never led to any recovery.

The Delhi Chief Minister said during the 2018 assembly elections in Karnataka, there was a ’20 per cent commission government’ in the state.

“The Prime Minister came to Karnataka and alleged that there is a 20 per cent commission government (during 2018 polls). He assured that he will eradicate corruption if the ‘double-engine government’ is formed in the state,” the AAP chief said.

He added that people trusted the Prime Minister’s words and formed the ‘double engine government’ (BJP government in the Centre and the state).

Corruption doubled in the state from 20 per cent to 40 per cent commission, the Delhi CM alleged.

Kejriwal said: “I will tour across the country and tell everyone not to form the double engine government. Corruption doubles in double-engine government. We need a new engine government.”

BJP MLA Virupakshappa has been booked while his son Prashanth, a government officer, was arrested by Lokayukta following raids in several places in the state.

The AAP chief added that the state contractors’ association president Kempanna wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the ministers in Karnataka are demanding 40 per cent commission.

Instead of addressing the octogenarian office-bearer’s grievance or taking action against the ministers and MLAs, the 82-year-old contractor was arrested in a defamation case, Kejriwal alleged.

The Delhi Chief Minister charged that 40 per cent commission is charged from contractors, private unaided schools and Maths (hermitage).

Kejriwal said in the last five years, Rs 20,000 crore was spent on repairing the pothole ridden Bengaluru roads but not even 20 potholes were filled.

Due to this indifferent government, over 100 people lost their lives due to potholes, he claimed.

Highlighting the corruption prevailing in the state, Kejriwal said bribes are taken to recruit police sub-inspectors and lecturers.

“Even the MLAs are on sale. The ruling party MLA has said that anyone who has Rs 2,500 crore can become the chief minister in Karnataka. Throw them out and give a chance to the staunch honest AAP,” the party chief said.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann too addressed the public meeting.

Users can now change behaviour of AI Bing chatbot

    [ad_1]

San Francisco, March 3 (IANS) Tech giant Microsoft has added a new feature to its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered Bing chatbot that allows users to choose different tones for responses.

Users can choose between three options for the chatbot’s responses — precise, balanced and creative.

The creative mode provides responses that are “original and imaginative”, whereas the precise mode gives “accuracy and relevancy for more factual and concise answers”, reports The Verge.

The tech giant has set the Bing chatbot’s default mode to balanced, which it thinks will strike the right balance between accuracy and creativity.

These new chat modes are currently rolling out to all Bing AI users, and about 90 per cent of users should already be seeing them.

According to Mikhail Parakhin, the head of web services at Microsoft, the update includes a “significant reduction in cases where Bing refuses to reply for no apparent reason”.

Last month, the company had said that it was also going to test an additional option that would allow users to choose the tone of the chat from more precise, to balanced and more creative.

“The goal is to give you more control on the type of chat behaviour to best meet your needs,” it added.

Centre must change attitude towards agriculture: Niranjan Reddy in Kerala

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana agriculture minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy at a conference in Trivandrum on “Developing value chain in agricultural products” said that CM K Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) pro-agriculture policies are reason for the state’s success.

At Yiga 2023 held in Kerala’s capital, Reddy said that Telangana government prioritises agriculture first and 65 lakh farmers in the state are working on 50 lakh acres across the state. He further said that agriculture contributes to 18.2% of state’s GDP.

“Telangana’s agriculture sector is at the top of the country as a result of the policies followed in the last nine years. In the last two terms, the state government has focused on large-scale peasant agriculture and hence agricultural production has increased significantly.”

Reddy claimed that even young people are attracted towards agriculture as an employment sector.

Discussing future course of action, Reddy said that there is a need to divide the country into crop colonies. In order to make agriculture profitable, the Centre should cultivate its commitment to the agriculture sector and change its attitude.

Environment | A considerable part of the palsa swamps of Upper Lapland has disappeared due to climate change

Pals are peat mounds in permafrost with an icy core. When the average temperature rises, the ice inside the mounds melts and the mounds collapse. No new mounds are formed.

Third Compared to the situation in the 1990s, the number of palsas in the conservation and wilderness areas of Upper Lapland has disappeared, says Metsähallitus.

The reason for this is climate change. Pals are peat mounds in permafrost with an icy core. When the average temperature rises, the ice inside the mounds melts and the mounds collapse. New palsa mounds are no longer formed, and thus the palsa swamps disappear.

Metsähallitus and the Finnish Environment Agency mapped almost three million hectares of the natural state of Upper Lapland in 2020–2022. The material produced with the help of machine intelligence is the most accurate that has ever been collected about the area’s habitat types and their condition.
