Make Bulldozer Last Resort, Give People Chance To Prove Their Claim: Omar to J&K Admin

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR:  Stating that the ongoing demolition drive going on across J&K has triggered a wave of frustration and chaos among people, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Monday advocated that the government should make the bulldozer its last resort, give people a chance to prove their claim and issue proper notices to the people having illegal possession of State land. He was quick to add that the National Conference was not against those who have grabbed State land but “a proper procedure should be followed.”

“In J&K, there is chaos everywhere. Bulldozers are being sent everywhere to demolish houses, complexes and buildings. But nobody knows what is the procedure and on what basis this demolition drive is being conducted,” said Omar while addressing a press conference in Srinagar, as per news agency KNO.

He said his sister approached the High Court with regard to the proposed demolition of the Gupkar house of Omar and was told by the government before the Court that the list making rounds in the media are “forged.” “Given the government response in the court, I urge the government to make the genuine list of people who have grabbed State land public,” he said.

Omar suggested a slew of measures to the government with regard to the demolition drive. “No government is supposed to bring trouble for the people. Bulldozers should be the last resort. The Government must issue proper notices to those who, according to it, have grabbed State land and given them at least six weeks’ time to prove their claim on land under them and show the documents,” he said. “In our case, my sister produced the documents before the HC that states that the lease of Gupkar house is still active and has some years to expire. Likewise, people should be given time to present the documents and let the revenue team verify the same. If after proper verification land under anybody is found under illegitimate possession, then a bulldozer can be used for sure.”

Omar said that the government should also make a public “genuine list of people who have occupied State land.” “It seems that the ongoing drive is aimed at creating a wedge between communities. This drive lacks proper procedure,” he said.

He said in the case of demolition of NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar, he found that no notice was served. “There is a procedure that if the person doesn’t receive the notice, the same is fixed on the front portion of the gate. Nowhere this is being done,” he said, adding, “Officials accompanying bulldozer at Nedous, told my relatives that they had pressure from the top and have to do something to show their bosses.”

Omar said in many areas the ongoing demolition-cum-eviction drive is becoming a “hub of corruption.” “I got many calls from several areas with people saying that they are being told to pay Rs 1 or 1.5 lakh to get their names removed from the list,” he said.

He said that NC MPs will try to raise the issue in the Parliament if they are given time to speak.

To a query that whey NC would approach the court on the issue, Omar said that he has suggested some measures to the government and that if the J&K administration fails to give positive response, they would surely consult lawyers and discuss the future course.

At BJY’s culmination in Sgr, Rahul reveals dress code secret: ‘Wore White T-shirt to give enemies a chance to change its col

Srinagar, Jan 30: Donning the Kashmiri traditional gown (pheran), Congress leader and Member Parliament (MP) Rahul Gandhi Monday said he deliberately wore a white T-shirt to give chance to his enemies to change its colour but he received endless love instead of grenades. He said the message Bharat Jodo Yatra(BJY) was to see the end of phone calls giving the message of deaths in the Valley.

Addressing a rally on the last day of BJY at SK Stadium, Sonwar, Srinagar, amid heavy snowfall, Rahul, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that much was talked about his T-Shirt. “I wore (white) T-Shirt to give chance to my enemies to change its colour, but instead I received lots of love and warm wishes instead of grenades,” Rahul thundered from the stage amid slogans from the participants: “Jodo, Jodo Bharat Jodo”

Rahul said he can well understand the pain and agony of Kashmiris. “Every Kashmiri I met during my Yatra had tears in his/her eyes. The main message of BJY is to see the end of phone calls giving messages of deaths. What would be the fate of the families including soldiers, CRPF men and Kashmiris when they get phone calls with messages of deaths/killings of their loved ones? Who else can understand that other than me? I have received phone calls about my father’s death and even my grandmother’s death and thus I could realize the pain of families of those killed in Pulwama,” he said as snowflakes filled the air.

Rahul dared Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders to conduct or hold Padyatra in the Valley like the one he did. “I am sure they can’t do it as they are afraid and have fear in their hearts,” he said and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of “instigating violence”.

Rahul said that Kashmiriyat was a thought and Kashmir was a home for him. “In fact, the thought Kashmiriyat presents is a home for me. For me, the home is not just four-walls but the thought Kashmiriyat gives and presents,” he said.

While speaking on the occasion, Rahul said that he has not carried out this yatra for himself or for the party, but for the people of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Rahul’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi said that the main message of BJY was to spread love and call for the end of hatred by bringing the hearts together. “Finally, we have succeeded,” he said.

Former J&K chief ministers including Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti while speaking on the occasion said that they see a ray of hope in Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier in the day, Rahul unfurled the national flag at the yatra’s campsite at Cheshma Shahi in Srinagar. He later hoisted the national flag at PCC office here following which the main culmination event was held in which the former chief minister’s of J&K including Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also participated—(KNO)

  • Himachal Pradesh Polls: Voting Begins; Will HP Keep Alternate Government Traditions Or Give Another Chance To BJP?

Himachal Pradesh Polls: Voting Begins; Will HP Keep Alternate Government Traditions Or Give Another Chance To BJP?

    [ad_1]

    • Will Himachal Pradesh keep selecting alternate government tradition alive or give another chance to Bhartiya Janata Party
    • Voting for 68 Assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh begins, CM Jai Ram Thakur casts his vote
    • Request all voters to participate with full enthusiasm in this festival of democracy, says PM Modi

The voting for the Himachal Pradesh elections has begun, with a two-pronged contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. In the hill state, over 55.92 lakh voters will decide the fate of 412 candidates.

The upper areas of Himachal Pradesh have received new snowfall, lowering the temperature by several notches. 140 polling booths are snowbound in the tribal districts of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, and Chamba.

A total of 30,000 security personnel, including 67 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), have been deployed throughout the state to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.

The state has 7,884 voting locations, with 7,235 in rural areas and 646 in urban areas. Polling will continue until 5:30 p.m. today, and votes will be counted alongside Gujarat on December 8.

The ruling BJP has expressed confidence in returning to power based on performance, while the Congress hopes that voters will continue the history of alternate governments.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP won 44 seats, the Congress 21, two were won by independents, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) gained one seat by fielding candidates in 11 assembly divisions.

In its manifesto, the opposition Congress promised the restoration of the previous pension scheme, 300 units of free electricity, the establishment of a commission for the youth to look into their issues of education and job creation, as well as financial aid of Rs 1500 to women.

Meanwhile, the BJP is vying for a second term, promising to adopt the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), 33 percent reservation for women in government employment, five new medical institutes in the state, and cycles for girl students in classes 6 to 12.
