Nadda to chair meeting of BJP’s OBC MPs

New Delhi: BJP National President J.P. Nadda will chair a meeting of all the OBC MPs of the party at party headquarters in the national capital on Wednesday.
According to a source, Nadda will meet all the OBC MPs at the party office at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The focus of the meeting will be the upcoming state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
“Party president will review the ongoing outreach programmes for the OBC community. He will also discuss the party’s strategy to win the hearts of the community… There are many policies and programmes of the Modi government for the benefit of OBCs, party will highlight them during the outreach campaign,” he added.
The source further said: “Most importantly, Rahul Gandhi’s Modi surname remark issue will be discussed thoroughly in the meeting.”

SNB chair resigns after his Credit Suisse comments caused investor panic

London: The chair of the Saudi National Bank (SNB) has resigned for “personal reasons”, less than two weeks after his comments spurred investor panic over Credit Suisse that ended in an emergency takeover by its larger Swiss rival, UBS, according to a media report.
The Saudi National Bank (SNB), which was Credit Suisse’s largest shareholder, announced on Monday that it has “accepted” Ammar al-Khudairy’s resignation, and that he would be immediately replaced by its chief executive, The Guardian reported.
The bank gave little detail regarding the swift replacement, only saying that al-Khudairy was stepping down “due to personal reasons”, according to a statement released to the Saudi stock exchange.
Al-Khudairy’s exit came less than two weeks after he told journalists that SNB had ruled out providing any further funding for Credit Suisse because of additional regulations that would kick in if its stake in the Swiss lender then at 9.9 percent went above 10 percent, The Guardian reported.
Despite also assuring that the 166-year-old Swiss lender was “a very strong bank” and was unlikely to need more cash, the damage had been done.
Al-Khudairy’s comments spooked investors, who sent Credit Suisse shares plunging to record lows amid fears that SNB’s reluctance could limit emergency funding for the already-embattled lender, The Guardian reported.
The Swiss authorities were forced to step in, originally offering a 50 billion Swiss franc (45 billion pound) line of credit, and eventually orchestrating an emergency takeover of Credit Suisse by its larger domestic rival UBS that was confirmed only four days after al-Khudairy’s comments, The Guardian reported.
The swift action by Swiss regulators were part of efforts to curb further panic over the state of the global financial system, which started after US tech lender Silicon Valley Bank collapsed, and triggered government intervention earlier this month.

Waqf Board Chair Suspends 31 Employees, Orders Enquiry

SRINAGAR: Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, the Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board On Saturday suspended 31 employees for neglecting their duties at various shrines in Srinagar.
According to a statement issued, during a surprise inspection conducted by the chairperson, it was discovered that numerous employees were absent without authorization. However, the majority of the suspensions were due to the employees’ inability to maintain cleanliness at the shrines, mosques, and associated sanitary complexes/ablution points.
Dr. Darakhshan took action following her visit to the shrines of Makhdoom Sahab, Aasari Shareef Hazratbal, and Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar. The Tehsildar of J&K Waqf Board has been instructed to investigate the incident and submit a report to the Chairperson within three days for further action.(KNO)

Elizabeth Warren: Fed chair has failed at both his jobs

The Massachusetts senator, who has been vocal in calling for stronger regulations of the banking sector, also slammed Powell for deregulation that happened under his watch, including the roll back of measures in the Dodd-Frank Act, legislation that was enacted in 2010 in response to the 2008 financial crisis.
Powell “stepped up and took a flamethrower to the regulations,” Warren said on ABC’s “This Week.”
It is moves like this that led Warren to oppose Powell’s nomination to the Fed, she said.
“Jerome Powell has said that all he wants to do is lighten regulations on the banks. I opposed him as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank precisely for that reason. I said he was a dangerous man to have in this position,” she said.
Warren, who has long opposed government intervention that helps big business at the expense of small business and the nation’s workforce, also criticized Powell for sacrificing U.S. employment in order to combat inflation.
“What Chair Powell is trying to do — and he has said fairly explicitly is that they are trying to, in effect, slow down the economy so that (this is, by the Fed’s own estimate) — 2 million people will lose their jobs. And I believe that is not what the chair of the Federal Reserve should be doing,” Warren said.
When asked whether President Joe Biden should replace Powell, Warren told NBC’s Chuck Todd: “I don’t think he should be Chairman of the Federal Reserve.”

While talking to ANI, Shukla said, “I think Swati Maliwal has lost her mental balance. That’s why she talks like this. First she made many serious allegations about her husband, after which she is now accusing her dead father. She is making allegations in such a manner which does not exist in this world, it is absolutely wrong and extremely shameful.”
Swati Maliwal on Saturday narrated her childhood ordeal and said that she was sexually assaulted by her father when she was a child.
Demanding Swati Maliwal’s resignation, she said, “Swati Maliwal, who calls Arvind Kejriwal a potato, should live with him because potatoes and chips are friends. She levelled many serious allegations against her husband that he used to beat her, and now she is accusing her father in this manner. She has lost her mental balance, and sitting on the post of Chairperson of Delhi
Commission for Women. Talking like this is shameful. This post is a dignified post. It should be respected.”
“If they talk like this, then what message will be sent to the rest of the women of the society?” she added.
Barkha Shukla said, “In the year 2016, Swati Maliwal had said that her father is a soldier and she is proud of him. He can even give his life for the country and the same father, when he is not alive today, Swati Maliwal is talking about him. She is accusing him of physically assaulting her when he is not in this world and is dead. I request the LG sir that she should be immediately dismissed from her post because it will create a lot of trouble in the society. This is a wrong message that will affect the women and daughters of Delhi. This is a wrong notion about the relationship between father and daughter.”
Questioning Maliwal’s position, Barkha said, “In what way will Swati Maliwal emancipate women? She stays abroad half the time. She should be asked what she does abroad. Why does she go abroad? Does she go abroad to collect funds?”

Dem Intel chair: Biden admin position on classified docs fails ‘the smell test’

Rubio agreed, saying Congress needs to review the classified documents found in the possession of the president, former president and former vice president to assess whether the response was appropriate.
“A special counsel cannot have veto authority over Congress’ ability to do its job,” Rubio said. “This is going to be addressed one way or the other.”
Warner responded: “Amen.”
None of the intelligence officials who testified on Wednesday, including Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, immediately responded to Warner or Rubio’s comments at the end of the open hearing.
The Justice Department has cited ongoing special prosecutor probes into Biden and Trump as limiting its ability to share the documents with the lawmakers.
Earlier in the hearing, both Haines and FBI Director Christopher Wray said under questioning from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) that they had personally reviewed some, but not all, of the recovered classified documents. Specific teams conduct document reviews and provide reports following those, Haines and Wray said.
“Although I have not reviewed all of the documents myself, I have gone through a fairly meticulous listing of all the documents that includes detailed information about the content,” Wray said. “So it’s not reading every page.”
Cotton said members were “very frustrated” that the documents haven’t even been characterized to the committee, warning that “some of us are prepared to start putting our foot down” without better answers from intelligence community agencies.

Any candidate who wants to take part in the GOP’s first primary debate in Milwaukee later this year will have to sign a pledge promising to support whoever wins the nomination, Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel said Sunday.
“We’re saying you’re not going to get on the debate stage unless you make this pledge,” McDaniel said during an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.” McDaniel, who recently won her fourth term as RNC chair after a contentious battle against Harmeet Dhillon, said that Republican voters are tired of “infighting” within the party, and “want to see us come together.”
So far, three prominent candidates have entered the GOP presidential primary — former President Donald Trump, former Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley and conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. More are expected to join the race, potentially including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

House Dem leaders calm outrage over Hispanic Caucus chair

Usyk’s removal had roiled the bloc’s members, who are typically conflict-averse. A well-respected Hill veteran, she’d been brought on as the Hispanic Caucus head staffer earlier this year after stints with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-Calif.). The group, following Usyk’s termination, now has no staffers.
Barragán, a fourth-term lawmaker, has developed a reputation as a harsh boss — netting higher-than-average turnover in her office, as tracked by the nonpartisan site Legistorm. She’d brought on Usyk as the top staffer for the Hispanic Caucus, but other top staffers departed the group soon after Barragán was elected unopposed to its top job in December.
The lack of staff threatens to hurt the caucus’ ability to meaningfully engage on policies like immigration, preventing the group from leading House Democrats on certain critical issues. The group was set this week to bring on a new communications director, Bianca Lugo Lewis, though it is unclear if she will still start the job. She did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Chair hurled at Nitish Kumar during Samadhan Yatra in Aurangabad

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had a close shave on Monday when an unidentified man hurled a plastic chair at him in Aurangabad during his Samadhan Yatra.
Nitish Kumar reached the Barun block to inaugurate the panchayat building, and attend a programme there, when a chair fell in front of him.
Following the incident, security personnel surrounded the Chief Minister and took him away after the event. The local police started the investigation to identify that person responsible for hurling the clair on CM Nitish Kumar.
Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar visited Rohtas district as well and reviewed the government projects. He also met viral girl Saloni in Rohtas and appreciated her effort of creating awareness against liquor consumption.
Saloni sang a song in Bhojpuri on the consequences of drinking liquor consumption for the Chief Minister. She came into the limelight when she sang the song in her school last year.
Liquor has been banned in Bihar since April 2016 but is still available illicitly and a large number of people have lost their lives by drinking spurious or poisonous liquor. One such incident recently occurred in Chapra district when more than 100 persons died in January this year.

GOP intelligence chair ‘stumped’ by Biden-Pence-Trump document handling

Since the revelations that all three of them have possessed classified documents, members of Congress have expressed outrage at the apparent mishandling, though much of it has fallen along defensive partisan lines. There’s also been a certain befuddlement, particularly among those in Congress who sometimes handle classified material, as to why anyone would take any of this material home.
“They are not to be taken lightly. And we’re just amazed as people keep finding them stuffed in the strangest places, like behind Biden’s Corvette,” Turner said, referring to the discovery of documents in Biden’s garage.
Sensitive materials have been found in Biden’s Wilmington, Del., home, and in a private office space associated with him. The FBI found a classified document in a consensual search of Pence’s suburban Indianapolis home Friday, after one of his lawyers found a dozen classified documents in the home in January.
In the first high-profile discovery, law enforcement found a large number of classified documents while executing a search warrant for former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last year.
Turner has previously pondered how and why these classified documents ended up where they did.
“I can’t imagine a circumstance where anyone would believe that they need to have them in their home,” he said last month on ABC’s “This Week.”
