Eid milap celebration in New Zealand

Auckland: On 28 April, the Mana Andhra Telegu Society of New Zealand hosted its third Eid Milap event, which was attended by various dignitaries Members of Parliament Helen White and Melissa Lee, the Honorary Consul of India Bhav Dillon, Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi Guest of Honour Ex M.P, Rahul Chopra, Representative ACT Party, and Ann Degia Pala.
The event was a show of unity by a committee comprising individuals of different faiths. Three community leaders were recognized during the event, including Anjum Rahman MNZM for her services to the community, Syed Mujeeb QSM for his contributions to community organizations and the Muslim community, and Ibrar Sheikh, the President of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand. The event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Reginald Samuel, followed by a recitation of Tilawat-E-Quran-E-Pak by Janaab Hafiz Junaid, and Hamd and Naat by Nisar Mirza and Rustom Khan, respectively.
First Anjum Rahman MNZM was recognised for her service to the community, which included being a founding member of women’s organisations such as the Islamic Women’s Council of New Zealand and Shama Ethnic Women’s Trust. She has contributed to the Waikato Interfaith Council, is a board member of a major funder Trust Waikato, and on the governing council of InternetNZ. Internationally, she is a co-chair of the Christchurch Call Advisory Network and the Vice-Chair of the Independent Advisory Committee of the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism.

Anjum Rahman
In receiving her award, Rahman recognised the work of her parents in building the Muslim community in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton), as they were the first Muslim family to settle there permanently. They had provided an excellent example of generosity and service to others. While Rahman would prefer to contribute quietly, circumstances had required her to interact in the wider community to increase understanding and build belonging for Muslims and others. Her current role as co-lead of the Inclusive Aotearoa Collective Tāhono.
The next person recognised was Syed Mujeeb QSM, who has contributed significantly to community organisations such as the Mana Andhra Telegu Society and the Urdu Hindi Cultural Association. Syed Mujeeb is a highly respected journalist and the New Zealand correspondent for The Siasat Daily. He has made significant contributions to the Muslim community, earning him the title of “Eminent Personality of Islamic Community in New Zealand.” As the General Secretary of the Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of New Zealand, he plays an active role in organizing poetry programs and supporting social and community projects. Mujeeb Syed has received recognition for his work from notable figures, Melissa Lee, MP of the National Party, and Hon Helen White MP.
Finally, a special award was given to Ibrar Sheikh, the President of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand.

Jr NTR removed from N.T. Rama Rao’s centenary celebration guest list?

Hyderabad: The countdown to the grand celebration of the birth centenary of iconic actor and politician N. T. Rama Rao has begun. However, his grandson, the talented Jr NTR, has been reportedly omitted from the guest list, which appears to be a major disappointment among his fans and supporters.
According to Track Tollywood reports, Jr NTR, who is carrying on his grandfather’s legacy, is absent from the list of invited guests. This has raised a lot of eyebrows and sparked a lot of emotions among Nandamuri fans. They believe Jr NTR has been excluded and rejected by his own family.
The announcement of Vijayawada’s centenary celebrations on April 28th has taken the town by storm. The event is expected to be attended by the Indian film industry’s who’s who, including superstar Rajinikanth. However, the absence of Jr NTR from the guest list has disappointed many of his fans.

The Nandamuri family, well-known for its contributions to the Telugu film industry, appears to be at odds over Jr NTR’s non-invitation. While NTR’s son, Nandamuri Balakrishna, has extended an invitation to all, including fans, to attend the event, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that his own nephew has been excluded.
The absence of Jr NTR from the guest list has only added fuel to the fire as the excitement surrounding the event grows. It’s a glaring omission that has many people wondering if there’s something bigger going on here. Will Jr NTR attend the event, or will he opt to stay away? The only way to know is to wait and see.
For the time being, Nandamuri fans are disheartened and disappointed, with many hoping for a surprise appearance by their favourite star. It remains to be seen whether the family will put aside their differences and come together to honour their beloved patriarch’s life and legacy.

TV actors talk about their Eid celebration plans

Mumbai: From enjoying different delicacies to meeting family and friends, TV actors have all the plans to make the Eid celebration exciting and special.
On the auspicious occasion, they share how they plan to celebrate the festival and make it enjoyable and memorable.
Hiba Nawab from ‘Woh Toh Hai Albela’ says: “This Eid will be a little special as my mother is here so will get to eat all yummy food prepared by her. I love eating biryani so I’m very happy. This whole month is about doing good deeds and doing charity so I’ve been doing that and I keep this as my every year ritual.

“I’ll also celebrate it with my family on set on ‘Woh Toh Hai Albela’ as we also do Iftar together on set. On the day of Eid, I’ll call all my friend’s home and have good food and spend some good time together.”
Talking about celebrating the festival, Alma Hussein from ‘Sapnon Ki Chhalaang’ shares: “This year, I will celebrate Eid through a video call with my family because I am currently shooting and will be celebrating this festival with the cast. While we connect with the Almighty in this holy month, it’s also a time when the family gets together, and I have a lot of fun and enjoyment because I get Eidi from them. While I’m missing all of that, I have prayed to Allah to keep everyone happy and safe. Eid Mubarak to all my fans and friends.”
On the other hand, ‘Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal’ actress Reem Sameer Shaikh says that the best of all gifts on Eid is the presence of a happy family.
“Every year I try to celebrate the holy day with my family and friends. It feels so positive to be trying on new clothes, eating delicious food specially cooked by my Dadi and hosting the guests. I remember, as a child every year, I would dress up in the finest of my clothes and wait for the elders to give me Eidi.”
Sana Sayyad, who essays the role of Palki in ‘Kundali Bhagya’, shares: “Eid is a joyous occasion that brings together family, friends, and communities to celebrate the blessings and grace of Allah. Having said that, Eid has always been about my family and I only meet my family and relatives on Eid. In fact, every year, my entire family comes to my house and we have a huge feast.”

“While we also give each other Eidi, rather than focusing on just material possessions, we also have a deep appreciation for the opportunity we have got to spend time with our families. Though I will be shooting for Kundali Bhagya this year, I plan to pack up early and spend time with my family. Here’s wishing everyone Eid Mubarak,” she concludes.

Prez Murmu attends platinum jubilee celebration of Gauhati HC

Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday attended the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Gauhati High Court here. On the occasion, she launched a mobile app ‘Bhoroxa’ made for the safety of women and elderly people.
Women in need of assistance can use this app, which features women-related programmes and a number of helplines throughout the state. The 181 helpline number for women seeking assistance is one of the key features of the app. This helpline will make sure that women in need may contact the authorities and request assistance right away.
Addressing the gathering, Murmu said: “Gauhati High Court holds a unique place in India’s judicial landscape. After its inception in 1948, it had jurisdiction over seven states for more than six decades and still has jurisdiction over four states. It has established a distinct identity for itself by producing a number of legal luminaries. It has also received attention for delivering several landmark decisions.”

She expressed confidence that the Gauhati High Court would continue to serve the people in the same manner in the years to come.
Murmu said: “The northeastern region is possibly the best example of how various communities have lived together historically. As a result, it has rich ethnic and linguistic diversity. In such a region, institutions need to have a great deal of sensitivity and responsibility, as divergent traditions and laws govern the lives of the people of the region. The legislations applicable to different areas may vary, but the entire area is administered by a common High Court.”
She further said that it is heartening to see that the Gauhati High Court continues to uphold the customary laws that have been in practice in some of the states under its jurisdiction.
By respecting the sentiments of the indigenous people, this institution has helped enhance the ethos of peaceful coexistence in this region.
The President said: “Justice is hindered by many factors. Cost of justice is one of them. We need to keep expanding the reach of free legal counselling.”

She said that the language of justice is another hindrance but there is praiseworthy progress in that direction and the higher judiciary has started making verdicts available in more and more regional languages.
Murmu asserted that the increasing role of technology in the administration of justice has been solving many problems that had affected the system for long.
She urged lawyers and students of law to find technological solutions in the legal domain that can provide a helping hand to the poor and the needy.

Los Angeles: History has been scripted! It was truly a memorable day for India as it celebrated two big wins at the Oscars. Living every moment of it, the team ‘RRR’ celebrate this historic win.
Taking to Instagram stories, Ram Charan’s wife Upasana Kamineni Konidela shared a glimpse of celebration from MM Keeravani singing to Ram posing with the trophies.
The celebrations are held at SS Rajamouli’s home.
In the picture, Ram Charan can be seen in his happy mode while greeting the people.
Next, she shared a video featuring Keeravani singing and playing piano while Rajamouli’s wife Rama, Ram Charan and others enjoying it.

‘Naatu Naatu’ has won the award trumping big names like Rihanna and Lady Gaga. Composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose accepted the award on behalf of the team. Singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava and composer along with director SS Rajamouli and lead actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan are all present at the big event.
‘Naatu Naatu’ is the first Telugu song to be nominated in the ‘Original Song’ category at the Oscars.
Earlier, the singers gave a live performance. It was a goosebump moment for all when Naatu Naatu took over the Oscars stage with American dancers doing full justice to the track.
American actor-dancer Lauren Gottlieb also grooved on the track. Actress Deepika Padukone introduced the song to the audience and called it a ‘banger’.
The audience loved Rahul and Kaala’s performance as they all stood up from their seats and applauded them.
Talking about ‘Naatu Naatu’, the song, as mentioned, the lyrical composition by MM Keeravani, high energy rendition by singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, unique choreography by Prem Rakshith, and lyrics by Chandrabose are all the elements that make this ‘RRR’ mass anthem a perfect dance craze.
The song competed against ‘Applause’ from the film ‘Tell It Like A Woman,’ ‘Hold My Hand’ from the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ ‘Lift me Up’ from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ and ‘This Is Life,’ from ‘Everything, Everywhere All At Once’.
The film is a fictional story based on the lives of two Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Ram Charan and Jr NTR played lead roles, respectively. The film collected over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide. Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran also starred in the film.
Earlier the Indian documentary film ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the Oscar in the ‘Best Documentary Short Film’ category.
Producer Guneet Monga along with director Kartiki Gonsalves took centre stage to accept the honour.

Biden at Lunar New Year celebration: ‘Silence is complicity’

The president said he asked Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, whether he should go to California or host the celebration at the White House.
“She felt very strongly. She said, ‘We have to move forward,’” Biden said. Chu told Biden to “stand in solidarity and in the spirit of toughness that this holiday is all about,” he added.
Chu was previously on the Monterey Park City Council, and she served as mayor three times. She was among members of Congress who wanted to attend the White House’s celebration but had votes on the Hill, Biden said.
Biden also recounted his conversation with Brandon Tsay, the man who disarmed the Monterey Park gunman in a physical altercation in nearby Alhambra after the shooting, which left 11 people dead and several others wounded. (The gunman later killed himself.) Tsay told Biden he thought he was going to die but acted to protect others, the president said.
“Sometimes we underestimate these incredible acts of courage — someone shooting has a semi-automatic pistol aimed at you, and you think about others. That’s pretty profound,” Biden said.
The president said that he’d been in contact with California Gov. Gavin Newsom this week. The state suffered other high-profile, deadly mass shootings since Saturday night, when the shooting happened in Monterey Park: two related shootings in Half Moon Bay that killed a total of seven people, and an additional shooting in Oakland that left one person dead.
Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Monterey Park on Wednesday to mourn the victims.
Biden on Thursday thanked first responders, and he asked the nation to support the communities involved in the shootings.

“These are tight-knit communities, as you all know,” Biden said. “They’ll be affected by what they saw — and what they lost — for the rest of their lives.”

Latitude: A Celebration Of Regional Diversity Through Architecture

The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is the National body of Architects in the country. Established in 1917, the institute today has more than 25,000 members and plays a major role in promoting the profession of architecture by organizing and uniting the Architects of India to promote aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession both in Practice and in Education.
In light of the fact that the construction sector contributes 36% of carbon dioxide emissions, an optimistic outlook would be to build more judiciously and mindfully keeping the environment and nature at its core, thereby minimizing this damage.
A significant step towards this cause is the event – ‘Latitude’ – the IIA Southern Regional Conference 2022, which is bringing together architects, academicians, and students from all over India to meet, deliberate, and learn from each other’s best practices and collectively address these issues which are both global & regional.
The Southern Regional Conference (SRC) 2022 is a two-day premier event showcasing acclaimed international and national (southern regional) architects. The SRC is a curated confluence of architects and their expressions across latitudes.
