Telangana govt even today hesitates to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day: Amit Shah

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah hoisted a 103 ft high national flag and inaugurated the ‘Gorata Shaheed Smarak’ and memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Gorata ground in Bidar district on Sunday.

On the inaugural of the memorial Shah attacked the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana stating that the Telangana government even today hesitates to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day.

“In this Gorata village, hundreds of people were killed by the army of a cruel Nizam for hoisting just a 2.5-ft tall Tricolour. Today, I proudly say that on the same land, we have hoisted a 103-ft tall Tricolour that can’t be hidden from anyone,” stated Shah.

“On the same land, a memorial of those immortal martyrs has been erected. This 20-ft tall statue of Sardar Patel is a symbol of the significant role played by our first Home Minister in ousting the Nizam from Hyderabad. That is why this area, this Bidar could become a part of India,” he added, stating that the BJP will celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day in a grand manner.

Telangana is due for elections at the end of this year.

Later, in an apparent move to woo the two dominant communities, Lingayatas and Vokkaligas, in the poll-bound Karnataka, where elections are due by May, the BJP leader will unveil the statues of 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara and the founder of Bengaluru city ‘Nadaprabhu’ Kempegowda on the ‘Vidhana Soudha’ premises.

It will be good if people respond positively to celebrate Feb 14 as ‘Cow Hug Day’: Rupala

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Union Minister Parshottam Rupala on Thursday said it will be good if people respond positively to the call given by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day’.

Rupala, who is Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, said nothing much should be read into the choice of February 14 as a date for this purpose.

February 14 is observed as Valentine’s Day across the world.

“This country has an age-old tradition of worshipping the cow and it is a matter of great happiness that people embrace the cow It is good if people respond positively to our appeal,” the minister told reporters.

Since February 14 is a day of love, it is good if people remember and love the cow on that day. “And if someone taunts on this, then one should not feel angry but feel pity…,” he added.

It is for the first time, AWBI — a statutory advisory body on animal welfare laws, has appealed to cow lovers in the country to celebrate ‘Cow Hug day’.

The Board noted that the appeal has been made because the vedic traditions are almost on the “verge of extinction” due to the progress of western culture.

The Board, established in 1962 under Section 4 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, provides grants to animal welfare organisations and advises the Centre on animal welfare issues.

‘He rope-a-doped them’: Democrats celebrate GOP jeers at SOTU

    [ad_1]

Schumer said on Democrats’ side of the room Tuesday, “there was excitement” as Biden was “hitting it out of the park.” The contrast with the Republican side of the room, he said, will be “remembered for quite a while, by anybody who watched it.”

At one particularly tense moment, GOP lawmakers booed the president when he claimed Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset — referring to Sen. Rick Scott’s (R-Fla.) proposal to wind down all laws after five years. Biden went off-script as the outrage from Republicans on the floor grew louder, attempting to clarify “I don’t think it is a majority of you” and finally saying, “So folks, as we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare, off the books now, right?”

Schumer said Wednesday “there is no way” to eliminate the deficit in 10 years — a goal of Republican leadership — without slashing Medicare and Social Security, though House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) did pledge Tuesday that he wouldn’t touch the two programs in the ongoing debt limit fight. The New York Democrat also called Biden “deft” for letting Republicans “walk into his trap” by essentially making them assert to the public they aren’t for cutting Medicare and Social Security.

“Joe Biden was so deft. He let them walk into his trap. He rope-a-doped them,” Schumer said. “And now all of America has seen the Republican Party say, ‘No, we’re not going to cut Social security and Medicare.’ He did a service.”

Vice President Kamala Harris called the Republican jeering “theatrical” and applauded the president for being “in command” and staying “focused on the American people” as opposed to “the gamesmanship that was being played in the room.”

“The president, it’s his nature and it’s his commitment to the American people to work across the aisle,” Harris said on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “That’s not going to stop even if some people are cynical about it.”

Assistant Democratic leader Rep. James Clyburn (S.C.) said Biden’s speech could be a preview for his 2024 campaign for reelection, should he make good on his stated intentions to mount another White House bid. Clyburn added that “it was the best effort I’ve seen” from Biden in a “long, long time,” and praised his “maturity” in responding to the hecklers.

“I saw in him last night the kind of maturity that the American people would like to see in a president,” Clyburn said. “He took on the hecklers. Let them have their say. Gave them a nice little smile and responded in a very positive way.”
