  • Big Update For PHH/AAY Category: 70% ‘bogus’ Ration Cards Cancelled – Know Details – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

Bandipora, Mar 18 : Around Seventy percent of ‘non-deserving’ households, who were holding AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana), PHH (Priority Households) ration cards have been weeded out from the particular categories in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.

Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Bandipora, Bilal Ahmad told GNS that the department has canceled around 70% of the PHH & AAY bogus ration cards in the district while the exercise to find out the authenticity of remaining 30% is in full swing.

He said that among the canceled ration cards, mostly were on the names of government employees, pensioners and other financially sound households.

He appealed the ‘ineligible’ PHH and AAY card, whose economic status has increased over the time to surrender their ration cards in the concerned Tehsil Supply Office within 15 days, adding the department will initiate legal action after the lapse of the given time period.

“Since the implementation of NFSA Act 2013 in 2016, two categories of households viz AAY & PHH identified on the basis of poorest of poor were registered for receiving ration on highly subsidized rates,” reads an order issued by AD Foods Bandipora.

“Since the implementation of NFSA Act 2013 more than seven (07) years have passed and reportedly the economic status of many families have improved”, it reads adding “a number of representations are being received by this office on daily basis for adjusting them under AAY/PHH.”

“Whereas, frequent inputs have been received from various quarters that some in-eligible/non deserving households are still getting benefits of AAY/PHH Ration Cards which is quite contrary to the guidelines and is sheer injustice to those who are needy and deserving and as reported by field functionaries many families whose economic status has improved by way of Govt. Employment, Business and other sources are not cooperating with them for conversion of their Ration Cards from PHH/AAY to NPHH/EX”, reads the order.

“Now in view of above (observations) and through the medium of this circular, all the Households whose economic status has improved and are still having AAY/PHH Ration Cards are hereby informed to surrender their AAY/PHH Ration Cards to their concerned Tehsil Supply Office within fifteen days (15) falling which action under norms shall be initiated forthwith,” the order added. (GNS)

Assam: Students protest after 2nd exam cancelled due to paper leak

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: As the second test of the state board-conducted Class 10 exam was cancelled within a week following leak of question paper, students on Friday staged protests in different parts of Assam.

While the AASU and NSUI organised demonstrations in several places, many examinees staged protests in various areas.

The general science exam, scheduled for Monday, was cancelled the night before the test by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, (SEBA) following reports of a leak of the question paper. It will now be held on March 30.

On basis of information extracted from one of the masterminds of the case, SEBA on Thursday night announced cancellation of examinations of all Modern Indian Language (MIL) and English papers, slated for Saturday. It has been rescheduled to April 1.

The CID is investigating the case and 27 persons have been arrested, four detained and one has surrendered so far.

Students from about five schools of Guwahati, including many who are appearing for the Class 10 board exam, staged a protest in front of the SEBA office here, demanding clarifications from the board chairman.

They squatted at the two entries of the office and urged the SEBA chairman to step outside the building and answer their questions.

“We want assurance that the question papers of the exams already held were not leaked and that it won’t happen for the subjects that are due,” one of the students said.

“We will continue sitting here until we get our replies as it will affect our future,” another added.

In Sivasagar, several students, including matric examinees, staged a silent demonstration in the town, demanding measures for the smooth conduct of the examination.

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), which has been protesting since the question paper leak case came to light on March 13, also staged demonstrations and took out processions in Dibrugarh, Sadiya, Sivasgar, Golaghat and Jorhat, among other places.

The Congress’ students’ wing, NSUI, also staged a demonstration at Bilasipara in Dhubri district, and burnt the effigy of Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu.

Some NSUI workers were detained by police during the protest, they claimed.

  • Nepal PM Prachanda’s visit to Qatar cancelled amid threat to his govt

Nepal PM Prachanda’s visit to Qatar cancelled amid threat to his govt

    [ad_1]

Kathmandu: Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has cancelled his first foreign visit to Qatar due to some “important political engagements” at home, officials said on Monday, amidst a threat to the stability of his coalition government ahead of the presidential election.

“Prachanda” was scheduled to leave for Doha on March 3 to participate in the Fifth Conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) taking place there, his first official foreign trip since assuming office two months ago.

“The Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar to attend the Fifth Conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) has been cancelled due to his important political engagements at home,” Prachanda’s Media Coordinator Surya Kiran Sharma told PTI on Monday.

Earlier, on Sunday the Foreign Ministry announced that Prime Minister Prachanda would visit Qatar, in connection with participating in LDCs meeting, as his first foreign trip after assuming the top executive position.

However, the Prime Minister decided not to leave the country in view of the presidential election scheduled to take place on March 9, the Prime Minister’s aide confirmed.

Meanwhile, just hours before Foreign Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal was scheduled to fly to Geneva to attend a high-level session of the UN Human Rights Council, Prime Minister Prachanda asked her to cancel the visit.

The development comes as a new ruling coalition minus the CPN-UML is in the making in Kathmandu just ahead of the presidential election on March 9, Nepalease media reported on Monday.

Eight political parties, including CPN-Maoist Centre led by Prachanda, have decided to support senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Poudyal for the post of head of the state during the election.

Prachanda, the 68-year-old Maoist leader was sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third time on December 26 last year after he dramatically walked out of the pre-poll alliance led by the Nepali Congress and joined hands with opposition leader Oli.

The Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (PPP), a key partner in the seven parties ruling alliance in Nepal, has decided to withdraw its support to ‘Prachanda’-led government, citing changes in the political equation.

Maoist Center Chairman and Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ has dealt a blow to the ruling alliance by selecting a presidential candidate from outside the ruling alliance.

The presidential election scheduled for early next month has put a serious question mark on the future of the seven-party ruling alliance.
