  • LAB Gets MHA Call To Submit Revised Proposal On Ladakh Dialogue

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: After the widespread protests by the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), for the Sixth Schedule like status to the UT of Ladakh and fulfillment of other long pending demands, the Union Home Ministry has sought for a revised proposal from the two bodies thus initiating a fresh dialogue.

As per media reports the development came after a 30-member delegation from LAB initially met the Lieutenant Governor B D Mishra in Leh and briefed him about the issues including four-point agenda of LAB and KDA which included Statehood for Ladakh, Constitutional safeguards under Sixth Schedule status, two Parliamentary seats for the UT (one each for Leh and Kargil) and employment opportunities for the local youth.

The two bodies have also been demanding inclusion of some of its members in the High Power Committee (HPC).

LG Mishra, as per media reports briefed the MHA in Delhi about the four point agenda of the two bodies and within 24 hours of the meeting the major breakthrough from the MHA came.

Media reports said that a high level meeting in this regard is expected to take place in the next week of April. Home Ministry might revise HPC and issue fresh agenda and incorporate names given by LAB and KDA among others to initiate stalled dialogue with the two bodies.

Pertinently, after reading down of article 370, the Leh Apex body was formed with the support of all religious, political, and social organisations. Then on the first anniversary of Article 370 abrogation Kargil decided to observe it as a black day. Subsequently after proper deliberations, the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) was formed.

In August 2020, the Leh LAB and KDA held a meeting at the Grand Dragon hotel Leh and came up with agreement on the four-point common agenda.

Meanwhile, LAB has called meeting with KDA leaders shortly to draft the proposal before submission to the Union Home Ministry, media reports said.

  • Howrah violence: TMC vs Guv on Raj Bhavan’s call to set up seperate monitoring cell

Howrah violence: TMC vs Guv on Raj Bhavan’s call to set up seperate monitoring cell

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Saturday questioned the decision of West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose to set up special cell for real time monitoring the situation at Howrah’s Shibpur- Kazipara area in wake of the clashes over a Ram Navami procession that started on Thursday and continued till Friday afternoon.

On late Friday afternoon after the Governor took a detailed report from the state chief secretary H. K. Dwivedi and the state home secretary B. P. Gopalika about the situation in the tension-prone area, a strong-worded statement was issued by the Raj Bhavan from where the decision to set up this special monitoring cell was announced.

“Governor ordered real time monitoring of the situation and constituted a special cell for the same,” the statement of Raj Bhavan read.

The statement also mentioned about “a confidential discussion to review the situation” between the Governor and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

On Saturday, Trinamool Congress’ state general secretary and the party’s spokesman in West Bengal Kunal Ghosh said that it is not clear whether the decision to set up the special monitoring cell was just a verbal announcement or there had been formal notification in the matter.

Raising doubts over whether there are legal provisions on whether such a cell can be set up by the Raj Bhavan, Ghosh also expressed apprehension that in case the said cell procures information from independent or private sources, doubts will remain whether the information received was authentic or not.

However, BJP’s state spokesman Samik Bhattacharya has justified the setting up of the special monitoring cell by the Raj Bhavan.

“As the constitutional head of the state it is the duty of the Governor to protect the democratic rights of the citizens of the state. So, he is well within his limits to order the opening up of the cell just as he sought reports of the situation from the state chief secretary and state home secretary,” Bhattacharya said.

Jamshedpur: Ram Navami immersion passes peacefully, ‘bandh’ call lifted

    [ad_1]

Jamshedpur: After discussions with state government officials, the Central Ramanavami Akhara Committee (CRAC) on Friday said it has withdrawn its call for a Jamshedpur ‘bandh’ and agreed to immerse its Ram Navami flags along with other akharas (religious groups).

Earlier, CRAC which is headed by a local BJP leader, had decided not to take out Ramanavami procession to protest seizure of truck with a music system and trailer which belonged to Sri Bal Mandir.

CRAC supported by a few more religious oraganisations had staged dharna on the industrial city’s roads including in Jugsalai in support their demands and raised anti-administration slogans as well as announced a dusk to dawn shut down of Jamshedpur city on Saturday.

However, at a meeting held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav, Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar, BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato and CRAC Patron and local BJP leader Abhay Singh and others in district collectorate late in the evening of Friday, the matter was resolved and CRAC agreed to take out the procession tonight.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Mahato said the issue has been settled amicably and Ramnavami procession will be taken out tonight.

Mahato attributed that the misunderstanding was caused because of “confusion and miscommunication”.

CRAC’s Abhay Singh confirmed that procession will be taken out tonight and tomorrow’s bandh called off.

Earlier, security was tightened in the steel city on Friday ahead of Ramanavami processions being taken out especially in sensitive and super sensitive areas.

Areas like Mango, Hanuman Mandir, Munshi Mohalla masjid, Daiguttu and Shastri Nagar are considered super sensitive, while Kharangajhar, Telco, Dhatkidih and Sakchi are sensitive areas.

The district administration had set up temporary CCTV and night vision cameras in these areas to keep a vigil on mischief makers, an official statement said.

Besides drones were also deployed for surveillance of the processions.

The police also staged flag marches in the city on Thursday and deployed rapid action force to ensure peaceful conduct of Ramanavami processions.

Jamshedpur has a long history of riots and clashes on Ram navami.

Ram Navami clashes: Bengal Guv summons chief secy after call from Shah

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose sprang into action on Friday regarding the clashes in Howrah district on Thursday over a Ram Navami procession after receiving a call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on this count.

Raj Bhavan sources said that after receiving the call from the Home Minister, the Governor summoned the Chief Secretary, H.K. Dwivedi, and Home Secretary, B.P. Gopalika, to the Governor House on Friday evening.

The sources said that during his meeting with the two top bureaucrats of the state, Bose sought details of the prevailing situation in Howrah and actions taken by the police to restore normalcy in the troubled areas.

The sources also said that there is a possibility that the Governor might also visit the troubled areas. However, there was no confirmation about the timing of his visit.

As per the latest information available, a large contingent of police have already been deployed in the troubled pockets of Howrah district who are conducting flag- marches and frequent patrolling for the purpose of area domination.

Frequent announcements are also being made asking the people to avoid any kind of gathering in the area, cautioning them of legal actions in case of any violation on this count.

  • Elon Musk, top researchers call for immediate pause on all giant AI experiments

Elon Musk, top researchers call for immediate pause on all giant AI experiments

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: As AI chatbots come of age, several top entrepreneurs and AI researchers, including Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, Co-founder of Apple, have written an open letter, asking all AI labs to immediately pause training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 for at least 6 months.

Arguing that AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society and humanity, more than 1,100 global AI researchers and executives signed the open letter to pause “all giant AI experiments”.

“We call on all AI labs to immediately pause for at least 6 months the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. This pause should be public and verifiable, and include all key actors. If such a pause cannot be enacted quickly, governments should step in and institute a moratorium,” they wrote.

The open letter comes as reports surfaced that Musk tried to take control of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, in early 2018 but Sam Altman and OpenAI’s other founders rejected Musk’s proposal.

Musk, in turn, walked away from the company and reneged on a massive planned donation, according to Semafor. Musk reneged on a promise to supply $1 billion in funding, but contributed only $100 million before he walked away.

The open letter against AI experiments has other big names like Jaan Tallinn, Co-Founder of Skype, Evan Sharp, Co-Founder, Pinterest, and Chris Larsen, Co-Founder, Ripple.

The letter said that advanced AI could represent a profound change in the history of life on Earth, and should be planned for and managed with commensurate care and resources.

“Unfortunately, this level of planning and management is not happening, even though recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control,” it elaborated.

“Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?”

“Should we automate away all the jobs, including the fulfilling ones? Should we develop non-human minds that might eventually outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us? Should we risk loss of control of our civilisation?” asked the letter.

The letter stated that such decisions must not be delegated to unelected tech leaders.

“Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable. This confidence must be well justified and increase with the magnitude of a system’s potential effects.”

OpenAI’s recent statement regarding artificial general intelligence, states: “At some point, it may be important to get independent review before starting to train future systems, and for the most advanced efforts to agree to limit the rate of growth of compute used for creating new models.”

“We agree. That point is now,” the letter said.

Angered by power cut, man makes hoax call about bomb at Maha Dy CM’s house

    [ad_1]

Nagpur: Angered by a power cut at his house, a man allegedly made a hoax call that a bomb was planted at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ house in Nagpur on Tuesday, police said.

The police traced the 30-year-old caller to Kanhan town, around 30 km from the city, and have detained him, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said.

The Nagpur police’s control room received a call around 2 am from a man claiming that a bomb had been planted outside Fadnavis’ house. However, the caller abruptly disconnected the call, he said.

A police team with a bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and dog squad were rushed to the deputy chief minister’s house near Trikoni Park in Dharampeth and a thorough check was carried out inside and outside the premises, but no explosives were found, the senior official said.

Fadnavis and his family are currently in Mumbai, he said.

The caller was allegedly facing a power cut at his house and had made the hoax call in a fit of rage to mislead the police, Kumar said.

  • Muslims compared to snakes, call for Akhand Bharat at Digital Hindu Conclave

Muslims compared to snakes, call for Akhand Bharat at Digital Hindu Conclave

    [ad_1]

Leaders from the ruling BJP delivered Islamophobic speech in full swing at the recently concluded Digital Hindu Conclave held on March 18.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra, Kajal Shingala aka Kajal Hindusthani and far-right author Kshitij Patukale compared minorities, particularly those belonging to Muslim community, to snakes, distorted history by calling for violence as the only way to attain Akhand Bharat besides raising the topic of Love Jihad.

Kajal Shingala said that there can never be brotherhood between Hindus and Muslims and called out those who support secularism and peace between the two communities as a “sinking ship”.

“I want to let these people who have one leg on the Hindu boat and the other on a Muslim boat, you are going to drown,” she said.

She stressed that the making of Hindu Rashtra is inevitable and no one can stop them. “They (Muslims) kept shouting against Ram Mandir. But we succeeded and now it will be completed by next year. Similarly, I am confident that we will achieve success by creating a Hindu Rashtra and that day is not far away,” she said.

Without mentioning names, Kajal referred to Shah Rukh Khan’s recent visit to Vaishno Devi temple before the release of his movie Pathaan as well as Aamir Khan’s photograph doing Kalash pooja.

“We will make sure each one of them undergoes ghar vaapsi,” she said.

Ghar Vaapsi is a Hindutva programme meant to convert those belonging to other religions to Hinduism. it is conducted by right-wing organsations Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal, and their allies.

She also alleged that the Waqf board is forcibly snatching land from the Hindus. “You people came some 1,400 years before. We have been here forever. How can you claim this is your land?” she said.

She also spoke highly about the bulldozer culture introduced by the Yogi Adityanath government. “Such large-scale demolitions of Muslim homes have never been recorded in Indian history,” she said proudly.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra spoke about Love Jihad. Taking the recent murder of Shraddha Walker, whose live-in partner Aftab Poonawala stored her chopped body in a refrigerator, he said, “There will come a day when we will see ads like keep fruits in the fridge, not ‘Shraddha’.”

Far-right author Kshitij Patukale said, “It is our duty to protect our dharma and if that comes at the cost of the country, we should not hesitate. This is not a 200-year-old slavery (referring to colonial invasion), but around 1,200 years of slavery.”
