Bengaluru: A bus conductor was charred to death in the early hours of Friday when the vehicle belonging to state-owned BMTC caught fire at Lingadheeranahalli in the city, police said.
The driver was sleeping inside the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus when it suddenly caught fire killing the conductor Mutthaiah (45), a native of Ballari, and reducing the vehicle to ashes, police said.
The body has been sent for conducting a post-mortem, they said.
The driver of the bus was sleeping in another place when the fire engulfed the vehicle.
Police have started an investigation to find out the cause behind the blaze.
Bengaluru: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be providing free travel facility to all women passengers in all its bus services in the city on Wednesday (March 8).
An official release on Tuesday stated that the initiative is being taken to provide safe, secured transportation facilities for women and to promote public transportation.
As a large number of women use public transportation in the city, traffic congestion and air pollution in the city will be reduced and it will also improve mass transportation in the city.
The free travel will be provided in BMTC’s bus services including AC Vajra and Vayu Vajra (Airport) Services.
With a fleet size of 6,600 buses, BMTC currently has 5,567 schedules, covering 10.84 lakh kilometers in Bengaluru carrying an average of 29 lakh passengers every day.
New Delhi: A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus on Saturday ran into the compound wall of christian cemetery at Delhi’s Prithviraj Road area and damaged the wall and graves, the police said.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning at 6:50 am, police said.
So far, no casualty or injury to anyone has been reported in the incident, police said.
The exact reason behind the accident was not clear.
Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has introduced daily special bus services for girl students and women passengers, on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8.
Ladies’ Special bus services will be functioning from the outskirts of Hyderabad to various places in the city. TSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar urged women and girls to utilize the service for safe travel.
The special bus services will be organised from Uppal to Bogaram via Ghatkesar, Bogaram to Secunderabad via Ghatkesar, LB Nagar to Ibrahimpatnam and Ibrahimpatnam to LB Nagar.
Special bus services will also be extended to include Gurunanak University. The bus routes will be LB Nagar to Ibrahimpatnam – Gurunanak University and Gurunanak University to LB Nagar.
Rajouri, Mar 02: Two persons died while 12 others were injured after a minibus turned turtle at Kewal Turn in Rajouri district on Thursday morning.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a minibus turned turtle near Kewal Turn in the district, resulting in injuries to at least 14 persons.
Block Medical Officer Kandi, Dr Iqbal Malik said that 14 injured were received at Community Health Center Kandi, but two of them succumbed to injuries.
He said of 12 injured two have been referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri.

Hyderabad: A bus conductor died of cardiac arrest in a moving bus. The incident took place in Narsapur in Medak district of Telangana. This bus was going from Parganapur towards Sangareddy.
The conductor has been identified as Bhikshapati who collapsed on the bus due to cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital by auto, but the doctors declared him brought dead after examining him.
According to sources, RTC employees have alleged that higher officials are responsible for the conductor’s death, who have rejected his request for leave on the grounds of ill health. It is said that the checking officials had issued a memo to the conductor as a result of which he became frustrated.
