  • RTO Kashmir All Set To Start Integrated Bus Service On 11 Routes

    SRINAGAR: After the completion of the route integration plan, traffic authorities in Kashmir are ready to commence bus services on 11 routes in Srinagar, officials stated on Monday.

    The Regional Transport Officer (RTO) for Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, announced that they are prepared to initiate the bus service on 11 routes with a fleet of 185 minibuses. Officials from the department and transport associations will be present at every station..

    “We have completed the route integration process and from tomorrow we are going to start a full-scale bus service on 11 routes,” he said.

    The RTO Kashmir has sent a letter to all Mini-Bus Transport Unions/Associations instructing them to operate Mini/Medium-Buses on specific routes from 04-04-2023 between 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. The letter also requires the vehicles to display a Route Plate indicating the route number, measuring at least 1 foot by 9 inches.

    “As far as your internal arrangements are concerned, you may pool in your vehicles onto these routes in the proportion of your existing vehicle fleets affiliated with respective unions/associations. It may also be noted that this route arrangement is also subject to change, on working efficiency, on public review and feedback,” stated the letter.

    The RTO Kashmir revealed that they have incorporated 10 JKSRTC buses on some routes, in addition to privately-owned mini buses. “The service will ply at a time interval of every 15-20 minutes on all routes,” he said, emphasizing the convenience for commuters. “I want people to come and avail of the services.”

    The RTO authorities in Kashmir have allocated 45 minibuses for circular route number seven (07), running from Qamarwari to the cement bridge, Noorbagh, Seki Dafar, NawaKadal, Rajouri Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Khanyar, Dalgate, Residency road, Lal Chowk, H.S.H.S, Jahangir Chowk, Batamaloo, Bemina crossing, and back to Qamarwari. “According to the newly framed integrated route plan,” this arrangement was made.

    Additionally, the route plan specifies that 10 minibuses have been assigned for route number three (03) from Pantha Chowk to Soura, and 20 minibuses for route number four (04) from Chadoora to Soura. Moreover, 15 minibuses are allocated for route number one (01) from Budgam bus stand to Hazratbal, 10 minibuses for route ten (10) from Panthachowk bypass to Narbal passing through the bypass road connecting JVC and children’s hospital, and 20 minibuses from Parimpora to Hazratbal.

    Last month, the RTO Kashmir authorities stated that they carried out the route integration exercise to streamline the public transport service arriving in Srinagar.

    New York: A 47-year-old Indian-American data analyst was killed on the spot after being struck by a bus at Boston’s international airport where he had gone to pick up a friend, according to a media report.

    Vishwachand Kolla, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was an employee of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.

    He was at the Logan International Airport, Boston to pick up a visiting musician from the airport travelling to Boston when the incident took place on March 28, US media report said.

    Massachusetts State Police said Kolla was at the lower level of Terminal B to pick up a friend around 5 p.m. when he was struck by a bus.

    “Kolla was standing on the driver’s side of his Acura SUV while, simultaneously, the Dartmouth Transportation motor coach was travelling on the roadway. The investigation indicates that the middle of the bus made contact with Kolla and dragged him along the driver’s side of his SUV,” State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement.

    An off-duty nurse rushed to help Kolla but he died at the scene, the report added.
    Troopers interviewed the bus driver, a 54-year-old woman, and inspected the bus. She has not been charged at this point in the investigation, the report said.

    The passengers were quickly rushed off the bus and their luggage was moved to another part of the airport.

    In a statement, Dartmouth Coach said, “Our deepest sympathies are with everyone impacted by this evening’s incident at Logan Airport. We’re working in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and Massport to gather further information.”

    Kolla worked at Takeda in the company’s Global Oncology division. Takeda industries told Boston.com in an email that they are “deeply saddened to learn of his unexpected passing.”

    “We send our heartfelt condolences to Vishwachand’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time and will be looking at how we can help offer any support as we respect the family’s privacy during this time,” they wrote.

    Meanwhile, Kolla’s relatives have set up a gofundme page USD 406,151 raised of USD 750,000 goal.

    Kolla is survived by his wife, and two sons, according to the page.

    New York: A 47-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh died on the spot after being struck by a bus at Boston’s Logan International Airport where he had gone to pick up a friend.

    Massachusetts State Police said Vishwachand Kolla of Lexington was standing outside his car near the curb of Terminal B last week when a Dartmouth Transportation motor coach hit and dragged him, along with the driver’s side of his SUV, CBS News reported.

    An off-duty nurse rushed to help Kolla but the father of two died at the scene.

    Police have not released the name of the bus driver, a 54-year-old woman who is assisting the police with investigations, and has declined any medical attention.

    After the accident, the passengers were rushed off the bus and all bus service was canceled for the rest of the night at Terminal B.

    “Our deepest sympathies are with everyone impacted by this evening’s incident at Logan Airport. We’re working in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and Massport to gather further information,” Dartmouth Coach said in a statement.

    Massachusetts State Police said the investigation is on, and no criminal charges have been filed at the moment.

    Kolla was a data scientist by profession and has most recently worked at Takeda as a Data Analytics Director, according to his obituary.

    He had worked as a Management Consultant at John Hancock, Deloitte, Boston Consulting Group, IBM and Sun Microsystems.

    He was also an active member of Telugu and Indian communities in the Greater Boston area including NRI Vasavi Association and Telugu Association of Greater Boston.

    “Vishwa was a philanthropist who put others before himself and led a minimalistic lifestyle. He was a deeply spiritual person who committed his life to Vedic and Spiritual living, his obituary read.

    Last month, Plainsboro resident Sreekanth Digala, also hailing from Andhra Pradesh, died after he was struck by an inter-city train in New Jersey.

    SRINAGAR: A minor girl died after slipping into an irrigation canal in Perniya area of Boniyar in Baramulla district.

    An official said that a minor girl identified as Rukaya Bashir (14) daughter of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie resident of Nowpora Jagir slipped into the canal.

    The class 9 student was waiting for school bus along Lower Jhelum Hydroelectric power Project (LJHP) canal when she slipped and fell into the canal, he said.

    Soon after the incident, a search operation to retrieve her body was launched and body was retrieved.  Water supply of the canal was stopped and it helped in fishing out the body, said the official.

    He said the body was handed over to her family after medico legal formalities were completed.

    Tehsildar Boniyar, Vikramjeet Singh said fencing would be carried out along the LJHP, especially at accident prone sites soon.

    He said he will write to the higher ups for an SDRF team for Boniyar so that people may do face any difficulties during such incidents.(KNO)

    Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is offering free bus travel to students who will be appearing for their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations from April 3 to April 13, 2023.

    Regardless of their distance and origin, students can avail of this free bus travel facility anywhere across the State. However, to avail of the free travel facility, students must produce their exam hall ticket and bus pass.

    A total of 4,94,458 students have registered for the SSC examinations that will be conducted at 2,652 centers spread across the State. The timings of examinations are from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.

    Meanwhile, Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy recently reviewed the preparations for the SSC examinations through a video conference with district collectors. She appealed to the students to participate in the examinations without any pressure or confusion.

    To ensure the smooth conduct of the exams, CCTV cameras have been installed at the examination centers, and a special control room comprising officials has been set up.

    Hall tickets have been sent to the respective schools, and candidates can also download them online.

    Riyadh: The death toll in Monday’s bus accident in southern Saudi Arabia carrying Umrah pilgrims has risen to 21, while the number of injuries reached nearly 29.

    The accident occurred at around 4 pm on Monday in Aqabat Sha’ar in the Asir region, while they were on their way to Makkah to perform Umrah.

    The bus departed from Khamis Mushayt, heading to Abha.

    As per media reports, the victims were of “different nationalities” but did not name them.

    The accident was due to a malfunction in the bus brakes, which led to it colliding with a bridge, overturning and burning.

    The dead bodies were taken to the morgue at Mahayil Hospital.

    The injured were transferred to Asir Central Hospital, Muhayil Hospital, and the private Abha Hospital in Muhayil Governorate, Asir Region.

    According to Aranic daily Al Watan, the health authorities in Asir started collecting DNA samples from the deceased to identify the remains and contact family members.

    Hyderabad: Narrow escape for passengers after a TSRTC bus caught fire in the Suryapet district in the early hours of Wednesday.

    Twenty passengers, who were travelling on the bus escaped immediately after they were alerted of a short circuit in the engine of the bus.

    According to the passengers, the bus had left Khammam depot and reached crossroads in Suryapet when the incident took place.

    However, the fire was doused by the fire engine that reached the spot. However the bus was gutted till then.

    Champawat: Five devotees from Uttar Pradesh died in Uttarakhand’s Champawat district on Thursday when a bus ran them over while they were sleeping on the roadside, police said.

    Five more were injured in the accident and have been hospitalised, they said, adding that the victims had come to Champawat to attend the Maa Purnagiri fair held on the occasion of Chaitra Navratri in the Tanakpur area.

    Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the accident and cabinet minister Rekha Arya reached the hospital in Tanakpur to inquire about the condition of the injured.

    According to police, the accident took place when the driver was reversing his bus in the morning when the wheels of the vehicle ran over the devotees sleeping on the roadside.

    They said three people died on the spot Mayaram (32) and Badrinath (40) of Chittaura in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh and Amravati (26) of Bilsi in Budaun district.

    A police official said Nemwati of Budaun’s Ujhani and Ramdehi of Bahraich died of injuries in the hospital.
