BRS stages protests across Telangana over LPG price hike

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Thursday staged protests across the state against the hike in price of cooking gas.

Ministers, MPs and state legislators led the protest at various places in the state. Large number of women along with empty gas cylinders participated in the protests.

The protestors were carrying posters and raising slogans slamming the BJP-led government at the Centre for further burdening the common man with another hike in LPG price.

On a call given by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, protests were organised in headquarters of all Assembly constituencies.

Rama Rao also took to Twitter to taunt the Modi government over the price rise. “Congratulations to the “Double Engine” NPA Government on successfully Tripling the LPG Cylinder prices,” wrote the BRS leader who calls National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as Non Performing Alliance (NPA).

Finance minister T. Harish Rao led a big protest at Medchal near Hyderabad. He alleged that the Modi government continued to burden the common man by hiking the gas price.

“When gas price was Rs 400, the same BJP used to raise a hue and cry but it has tripled the price,” he said.

Harish Rao alleged that the BJP has almost lifted the subsidy on cooking gas. He pointed out that during the UPA regime, the subsidy was Rs 2.14 lakh crore but after BJP came to power it reduced the subsidy every year and it has now come down to Rs 37,209 crore.

The minister recalled that the price of domestic cooking gas cylinder in 2014 was Rs 410.50 but with the latest hike, it has gone up to Rs 1,155. “In nine years, the price of a cylinder has increased by Rs 744.50. Thus there has been an increase of 178 per cent in this period,” he said.

The BRS leader said that the BJP government was increasing the price by Rs 100 after every election. He pointed out that this time too the price has been increased soon after voting was over in Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland. He predicted the price will go up further after the Karnataka elections.

He urged people to question the BJP leaders about the price rise when they come to their areas for street corner meetings.

Minister for animal husbandry led the protest at Gandhi statue in Secunderabad in the state capital. As a mark of protest, BRS workers cooked the food on firewood.

The ruling party also organised a huge protest on Tank Bund. MLA D. Nagender led the protest.

Large number of women participated in the protest through cooking in Karimnagar. Participants in the protest led by civil supplies minister Gangula Kamalar raised the slogan aBJP hatao desh bachao’. Excise minister Srinivas Goud led the dharna in Mahabubnagar.

In Warangal, Government Chief Whip Vinay Bhaskar led the protest. Bhaskar termed the hike in gas price as a gift to women on the eve of international women’s day. “At a time when women are preparing for the celebrations, the central government has betrayed them by increasing the price,” he said.

BRS men hurl eggs, tomatoes on Congress leader during yatra

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed in Bhupalapally town of Telangana on Tuesday night after BRS supporters hurled eggs and tomatoes at state Congress chief A. Revanth Reddy when he was addressing a public meeting.

Revanth Reddy, who was addressing the meeting as part of his ongoing “Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra”, continued his speech, blaming ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for the attack.

Later, supporters of both parties pelted stones on each other. A policeman sustained head injuries in the clash.

Trouble began when BRS supporters raised slogans against Revanth Reddy when he was addressing the public meeting. They tried to surge towards the dais. Police acted swiftly to lock up the protestors in the premises of a nearby cinema theatre.

However, BRS men hurled eggs and tomatoes towards the Congress’ Telangana unit President.

Security personnel formed a ring around Revanth Reddy and tried to shield him by holding a piece of cloth. Some Congress workers retaliated by pelting stones and bottles on BRS men in the theatre. The stone pelting by both sides continued for about 10 minutes. Window panes of the theatre were damaged in the attack. A sub-inspector of police was injured in stone pelting.

Normalcy restored after the public meeting was over and Revanth Reddy left the venue.

Telangana: Supreme Court hears pleas on BRS MLA poaching case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Supreme court bench comprising Justice BR Gavai, and Justice Aravind Kumar heard the BRS MLA Poaching case on Monday.

Senior advocate Dushyant Dave, representing the state government, requested the case be transferred back to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and asked for the Telangana High Court verdict to be struck down.

He told the bench that CBI is under BJP and that it should not investigate the issue.

Earlier this month, the apex court agreed to take up a plea filed by Telangana Police challenging the high court order which upheld the CBI probe into the alleged criminal conspiracy behind an attempt to poach BRS MLAs by the BJP.

A division bench of the High Court on February 6 upheld the earlier order of a single judge on December 26, 2022 transferring the case to CBI.

The plea argued that the high court did not appreciate that the CBI directly works under the Centre and is under the control of the office of the Prime Minister and the Home Ministry. The state government alleged the involvement of some top BJP leaders to poach its four MLAs, was an attempt to topple the government.

The plea said: “The Bharatiya Janata Party is in power in the Central Government and the allegations in the FIR are squarely and directly against the said party adopting illegal and criminal steps and methods to destabilise the Government of Telangana, the Hon’ble High Court therefore could not have entrusted the investigation to CBI in any case.”

“The High Court has unnecessarily drawn the conclusion that release of the CD by the Chief Minister on 03.11.2022 amounted to interference with the investigation and therefore concluded that investigation was not fair and violated the rights of accused for fair investigation,” it added.

Means to divert attention: BRS party supremo KCR condemns Sisodia’s arrest

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo and state chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has condemned the arrest of Delhi deputy chief minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy scam case.

The BRS party released a statement from its official Twitter page saying, “We condemn the arrest of Delhi Dy CM Sri Manish Sisodia by CBI. It is nothing more than diverting people’s attention from Adani – Modi nexus. – CM Sri KCR”

Earlier in the day, BRS working president and IT minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) termed Sisodia’s arrest as undemocratic and alleged that the BJP’s treatment of opposition is vicious.

KTR said that Sisodia’s arrest is part of a conspiracy to use central government agencies to weaken the parties in the states and in regions where the BJP cannot come to power.

Terming Sisodia’s arrest as the height of the BJP’s vendetta politics, he said that Sisodia was arrested after BJP suffered defeat in the Delhi mayoral election.

Delhi court on Monday ordered Sisodia to a five-day CBI custody after the latter said the conspiracy was hatched in a very deliberate and covert manner.

Sisodia’s lawyer opposed the agency’s remand application, arguing, “If someone is not willing to say something, that can’t be a ground for arrest”.

BRS condemns Sisodia’s arrest, calls it undemocratic

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday condemned the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Delhi liquor policy scam case.

BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao termed Sisodia’s arrest as undemocratic and alleged that the BJP’s treatment of opposition is vicious.

The BRS leader wanted to know how many ED, IT and CBI raids were conducted on BJP leaders or their kith and kin in last 8 years? “Kya Sab Ke Sab BJP Wale Raja Satya Harischandra Ke Cousins/Rishtedaar Hain?,” he asked.

“The country is watching how PM’s cronies are protected despite serious allegations & how Opposition leaders are hounded,” he tweeted.

“Modi’s Operandi is clear Target opposition parties by all means at his disposal; Either split the parties Or poach their MLAs & dislodge elected Governments If nothing works, use their only allies; CBI, ED & IT to harass and launch a smear campaign Back it with Paid Troll Army,” added KTR.

In a statement, he alleged that BJP was resorting to politics of deceit by letting loose government agencies on the opposition

KTR, as the leader is popularly known, said that Sisodia’s arrest is part of a conspiracy to use central government agencies to weaken the parties in the states and in regions where the BJP cannot come to power.

He said the political conspiracies of the BJP against the opposition posed serious threat to democracy in the country.

Terming Sisodia’s arrest as the height of the BJP’s vendetta politics, he said that Sisodia was arrested after BJP suffered defeat in the Delhi mayoral election.

“BJP does cowardly politics, unable to face the leaders of the strong parties questioning the inefficient policies and corruption,” he said.

KTR stated that the nation is watching the unethical and evil politics of the BJP.

“People will definitely reject BJP’s conspiracy politics. BJP leaders will face the same fate in future,” he said.

“BJP is an undemocratic party that has already pulled down 9 state governments in the country. BJP makes conspiracies to damage the parties that do not succumb to its temptations,” he said.

KTR said that in Telangana, the BJP’s conspiracy to buy MLAs was foiled. People have seen on camera the efforts by the BJP to buy MLAs. The time for BJP’s undemocratic nefarious conspiracies is near, he added.

Telangana: Eatala invites Boga Sravani to join BJP post BRS exit

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national executive member and Huzurabad MLA Eatala Rajender called on former Jagtial municipal chairperson Boga Sravani to join BJP, a day after she resigned from Bharat Rashra Samithi (BRS).

Eatala Rajender reached out to her in Jagtial and extended solidarity with Sravani while criticising BRS.

Rajender claimed that BRS leaders played dirty politics while alleging, “In KCR’s rule, not only the backward and SC communities but the leaders of his own party were facing injustice.”

Jagtial Municipal Chairperson row was a fine example of it, he added.

Rajender further claimed that the ruling party invested their time in praising the party head and paid the least interest towards resolving issues existing among their party members.

However, Sravani while speaking to the media said that she had not made any decision yet.

While she resigned from the post of municipal chairperson, alleging harassment by MLA M Sanjay Kumar in January, her resignation from the BRS was announced at a press conference Thursday.

Sravani’s sent her resignation letter to BRS working president KT Rama Rao reasoning that all major parties had invited her to join them, but she was yet to decide her next move.

She also expressed her gratitude to MLC K Kavitha and KTR in her letter.

“My political career was disrupted due to MLA Sanjay Kumar’s conspiratory politics. I resigned as Municipal chairperson to protect my self-respect,” Sravani wrote.

Hyderabad: Former chairperson of Jagtial municipal corporation, Boga Sravani resigned from the primary membership of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and from her post as ward councillor on Thursday.

While she resigned from the post of municipal chairperson, alleging harassment by MLA M Sanjay Kumar in January, her resignation from the BRS was announced at a press conference yesterday.

She claimed that Sanjay Kumar was distancing himself from the party to protect his vested interests.

“After resigning from the post of Municipal chairperson, I had expected cooperation from the party leaders, but in vain,” she added.

In January, Sravani accused the MLA of harassing her for money and commenting on her dress sense and added that she was disrespected by the MLA for being a BC woman.

However, her allegations were denied by the MLA a few hours after her tearful video circulated.

Telangana: KTR’s remarks against PM Modi due to BRS’ desperation, says BJP

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP’s official spokesperson NV Subhash on Friday said that the ruling BRS, after realising that it is losing the confidence of people, is now resorting to ‘derogatory remarks’ against PM Narendra Modi.

Reacting to KT Rama Rao’s remarks at Bhupalpally, Subhash said that KCR is unable to digest the popularity and people’s support for BJP.

Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) at a public meeting on Thursday in Bhupalpally, alleged that prime minister Narendra Modi was helping Gautam Adani become rich.

“Modi indeed helped Adani get that money,” he said referring to the recent Hindenburg research report row. KTR said that the Prime Minister failed to fulfill his election promise to deposit Rs 15 lakhs in Jan Dhan accounts.

“He is indulging in mud-slinging by using objectionable words against the Modi government,” said the BJP spokesperson.

NV Subhash stated that inspite of the BJP’s challenge for an open debate on the funds from centre to Telangana,’ the BRS ministers are not coming forward.’

He alleged that all the scams happening in the country led to Pragathi Bhavan and members of chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s family and BRS leaders being involved.

He echoed the statement of BJP party chief Bandi Sanjay that the BJP would destroy the tombs if they are voted to power.

Subhash said, “BRS is in power not because of Muslim votes, it is your duty and responsibility to protect our culture and respect sentiments of Hindu voters.”
