BRS to contest all panchayat seats in Maha local body polls: KCR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrashekhar Rao on Sunday announced that the BRS will contest every panchayat in upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra.

The Telangana CM KCR at Kandhar Lohate, replying to the comments of deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis who asked KCR to take care of affairs in his state, the latter replied, “I am a citizen of India and I have work in every corner of the country.”

KCR said that the Telangana model for agriculture should be implemented across the country and farmers should be provided free power, financial assistance; free water all across the country, and insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh to farmers and all agricultural produce should be procured by the government.

“If Devendra Fadnavis gives an assurance, I will not come to Maharashtra. If you want to stop me from coming to Maharashtra, please do it. Otherwise, I will come again and again to Maharashtra and fight for the rights of the farmers,” said KCR said.

He further said that the Dalits and Adivasis in Maharashtra have been facing problems for several decades. “It is not a healthy sign for the country. In Telangana, we have good schemes for Dalit families by announcing a scheme wherein Rs 10 lakh is provided to each family to use the money and improve their living standards. Devendra Fadanvis ji, you implement the scheme in Maharashtra and I would not come here,” he reiterated.

KCR said that compared to other countries there is fertile soil in the country and there is an abundance of rain and farming friendly environment. Our population is 140 crores in the country. “When I came to Maharashtra I noticed the land here is barren. Isn’t there water? There is a lot of water but there is no proper channelization of water for agriculture and water flows down into the sea. There is no need for us to beg for water from any country. We need to ponder about why there is no water for farming and drinking.”

  • Will teach BJP lesson at appropriate time: BRS MLA on Kavitha’s questioning by ED

Will teach BJP lesson at appropriate time: BRS MLA on Kavitha’s questioning by ED

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: With Enforcement Directorate (ED) grilling Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s daughter K Kavitha in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Danam Nagender lashed out at Centre saying the BRS will teach Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a lesson at the appropriate time.

Speaking to ANI, Nagender said, “This is a clear-cut issue. The people are well aware of the vindictive activities of the BJP government. ED is acting as the mouthpiece of the BJP and central government. This is very unfair. She (Kavitha) categorically said yesterday that she is not involved in any of this and she is in no way connected with this liquor business.”

“If someone X, Y or Z mentioned her name, they (ED) cannot take it as a conspiracy. The important thing is that each time she has been requesting the ED to mention a certain time limit. In spite of it, even yesterday she came out around 10 pm. No one will spare (BJP) when a woman is being tortured like this. The BRS party will not step back and we are ready to face any consequences. We will definitely teach BJP a lesson at the appropriate time,” he added.

The ED on Tuesday questioned BRS MLC K Kavitha for over 10 hours in the national capital regarding her alleged role in the Delhi liquor policy case. It was the third day that Kavitha was questioned by the federal agency.

Kavitha said she submitted all the phones she has used so far as she went for the third round of questioning in the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case at the ED office in the national capital.

On Monday, Kavitha appeared before ED after the federal agency on March 16, issued a fresh summon to the BRS leader to join its ongoing investigation in the case.

The federal agency issued the fresh summons as Kavitha refused to attend the ED interrogation on Thursday citing a pending petition in the Supreme Court.

Kavitha did not appear for questioning conveying to the probe agency that the matter is still pending before the apex court.

According to sources, Kavitha has sent the necessary documents sought by the probe agency through her legal representative.

The ED had summoned her earlier this month to appear before it on Thursday in the Delhi excise scam, alleging that she was a key member of the south cartel.

The BRS leader had approached the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing claiming that as a woman, she cannot be summoned to the ED office, and the probe agency’s representatives must visit her instead.

On Wednesday the Supreme Court had agreed to hear her plea challenging the ED summons on March 24 but refused to grant her interim relief.

Over the course of its investigation, the ED has come to know that Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai is one of the key persons in the alleged scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and the formation of the biggest cartel of the South Group.

South Group comprises Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others. The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency investigation has revealed.

Pillai along with his associates was coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pillai has been an accomplice and was involved in the kickbacks from the South Group and the recoupment of the same from the businesses in Delhi, ED investigation revealed.

The ED had earlier said that the South Group gave kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to AAP leaders.

Pillai is learnt to be a partner of 32.5 per cent in Indo Spirits, which had got an L1 licence. Indo Spirits is a partnership firm of Arun (32.5 per cent), Prem Rahul (32.5 per cent) and Indospirit Distribution Limited (35 per cent), wherein Arun and Prem Rahul represented the benami investments of Kavitha and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta.

Pillai is a partner in Indo Spirits. In this partnership firm, Pillai represented the interests of Kavitha.

Kavitha, who is a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.

ED, last year filed its first chargesheet in the case. The agency said it has so far undertaken nearly 200 search operations in this case after filing FIR after taking cognisance of a CBI case which was registered on the recommendation of the Delhi lieutenant governor.

The CBI inquiry was recommended on the findings of the Delhi chief secretary’s report filed in July showing prima facie violations of the GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009, and Delhi Excise Rules-2010, officials had said.

In October, the ED had raided nearly three dozen locations in Delhi and Punjab following the arrest of Sameer Mahendru, Managing Director of Delhi’s Jor Bagh-based liquor distributor Indospirit Group, in the case and arrested him later. The CBI too filed its first charge sheet in the case early this week.

The ED and the CBI had alleged that irregularities were committed while modifying the Excise Policy, undue favours were extended to licence holders, the licence fee was waived or reduced and the L-1 licence was extended without the competent authority’s approval. The beneficiaries diverted “illegal” gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to evade detection.

As per the allegations, the Excise Department had decided to refund the Earnest Money Deposit of about Rs 30 crore to a successful tenderer against the set rules. Even though there was no enabling provision, a waiver on tendered licence fees was allowed from December 28, 2021, to January 27, 2022, due to Covid-19.

This allegedly caused a loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer, which has been instituted on a reference from the Union Home Ministry following a recommendation from Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.

KCR’s letter to BRS cadre emotional blackmail: Telangana BJP chief

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday called Telangana chief minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supremo K Chandrashekar Rao’s letter to his party cadre “emotional blackmail of party workers”.

Bandi Sanjay said that the people of Telangana have “learnt that the KTR family members are behind many scandals like the Kaleshwaram scam, the death of intermediate students, the IT scam Dharani scam, and the real estate mafia”. He released his version of a letter after KCR wrote one to BRS party workers calling for support

“Scared that all of these scams are going to be revealed soon, KCR wrote the letter emotionally blackmailing his own party workers from turning against his family. This is a conspiracy to incite the opposition,” the BJP Telangana chief alleged.

“The letter is an example of the loss of people, party leaders and workers’ trust in the leadership of the BRS party and the Kalvakuntla family. A big conspiracy is hidden behind this move of KCR, who never cares about the activists, writing a letter today,” said Bandi Sanjay in his reply.

The BJP leader alleged that KCR directs police “to wave batons and beat up people” who come to Pragati Bhavan to raise their issues. He said that the chief minister has confined himself to the farmhouse and continued to rule.

Bandi Sanjay continued, “KCR has written this letter to incite the emotions of the party activist to prevent the discussion of his family’s corruption, as his ‘paper leak’ son, and ‘liquor scam’ daughter are drowning in many scams. KCR has a history of throwing out activists and leaders who questioned his selfish usage of Telangana. God knows what happened to the common people in 9 years”.

The BJP president called on people to support the BJP for the realisation of the aspirations of the Telangana movement. “If BJP comes to power we will announce a job calendar like the UPSC every year. We will build houses for the poor, and provide loss compensation to the farmers who lost crops. We will provide free education and healthcare,” added the BJP chief.

Telangana: KCR urges BRS cadre to dispel ‘misinformation campaign’ of opposition

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday exhorted his party cadre to reach out to people ahead of elections this year and dispel the “misinformation campaign” of opposition parties.

In an open letter addressed to BRS “family members”, he slammed the BJP for attacking the BRS that is working for the country by taking up the slogan of ‘Ab ki baar, kisaan sarkar’ (This time around, a government for farmers).

The BJP-led Central government is creating hurdles for the development of Telangana, he claimed.

Noting that the BRS has a history of defeating “conspiracies and attacks”, Rao said the state of Telangana would not have been a reality had BRS felt fearful about such attacks in the past.

He also said Telangana, which once only had “problems, tears and droughts”, has now emerged as a role model for the entire country by implementing various welfare schemes that cater to all sections of society.

Meanwhile, Rao said the country is faced with problems related to drinking water, availability of food for the poor, irrigation facility to agriculture and electricity supply.

Alleging that the BJP and Congress lacked vision and resolve for development, he said a new journey has been started in the form of BRS to influence national politics.

The BRS had earlier alleged that the NDA government misused investigation agencies like CBI and ED and also harassed several BRS leaders, including party MLC K Kavitha.

  • BRS, SP skip Oppn meet at Kharge’s chamber in Parliament premises

BRS, SP skip Oppn meet at Kharge’s chamber in Parliament premises

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After a week-long bonhomie among the opposition parties, the BRS and the Samajwadi Party on Monday skipped the meeting at leader of opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge’s chamber in Parliament House, but later both attended the joint press conference.

Trinamool has already been maintaining a distance, while the AAP was present in the meeting.

Apart from the Congress, the following parties attended the Monday meeting — DMK, RJD, CPI(M), CPI, NCP, JD(U), AAP, IUML, SS (Uddhav),JKNC, MDMK, RSP, Kerala Congress and JVCK.

The Samajwadi party (SP), which was absent in the meeting, later addressed the joint press conference of the opposition MPs at the Vijay Chowk.

The SP skipping the meeting following Akhilesh Yadav’s meeting with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata is significant as it is trying to maintain distance with the Congress.

Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, “BJP is scared that if JPC investigates, the nexus between Adani and the Central government would get exposed and the real culprit would come before the people. The public is angry because they think that they would lose their money.”

Yadav added, “It is a strange situation when the government is not making a statement even when the public is perturbed. We are seeing for the first time that the government is not making any statement even when there is such a serious scam, let alone a probe. So, they definitely are guilty.”

Earlier, Kharge earlier told the mediapersons that the Congress has asked for time tomorrow (Tuesday) for Rahul Gandhi to speak in the Lok Sabha.

“If allowed, he (Rahul Gandhi) will speak in Parliament tomorrow,” Kharge said.

Gandhi had met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week, seeking time to speak in the House regarding his comments made in London earlier this month on democracy under attack in the country.

Telangana: BRS to campaign in Maharashtra using video screen vehicles

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad/Maharashtra: Armor MLA and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Nizamabad district president Asannagari Jeevan Reddy on Sunday launched 16 video screen vehicles designed to explain the development and welfare schemes implemented by CM K Chandrashekar Rao in Maharashtra’s Kandar Loha.

He said that the mammoth public meeting organised at Kandar Loha on March 26 will make history.

“We will send 16 video screen-enabled vehicles to 1,600 villages in 16 talukas in Kandar Loha to explain about the Telangana model,” he said.

Mentioning the Kaleshwaram project, Rythu Bandhu, and Rythu Bima as unique welfare schemes implemented by the BRS government, Jeevan Reddy said, “The Telangana model is to guarantee 24 hours free electricity to farmers. The uniqueness of the model is that high-quality seeds and fertilisers are available to farmers in any season, especially in Kharif and Rabi. BRS means the welfare of Backward Classes (BCs) and farmers.”

He further said that Telangana has become a role model for the country in agriculture, and KCR spent Rs 80,000 crores to build the Kaleshwaram project facilitating the irrigation of crores of acres.

The BRS MLA said that Telangana is flourishing as a storehouse of grains and juices. “Seeds and fertilisers are being supplied on time and we have spent nearly Rs 3 Lakh crores for the welfare of farmers. As a result, Telangana became top in agriculture surpassing Punjab,” he added.

Delhi liquor scam : BRS MLC Kavitha leaves for Delhi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha left for New Delhi on a special flight, amid uncertainty on whether she would appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED), from Begumpet Airport here on Sunday.

Kavitha was accompanied by IT Minister and elder brother KT Rama Rao and MP Santosh Kumar. According to sources, advocates and senior members of the BRS legal cell have also headed to Delhi.

On March 16, she skipped the ED asserting that no woman shall be compelled to attend as a witness anywhere other than where she resides. She had authorized BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar to appear before the ED on her behalf.

In her letter, Kavita stated that since the petition filed by her in the Supreme Court is listed on March 24, its outcome must be awaited before any further proceedings with respect to the summons issued by the ED.

However, hours after receiving the letter from Kumar, the ED issued a fresh summons to Kavitha asking her to appear before the agency on March 20.

Earlier, the daughter of CM K Chandrashekar Rao was questioned for hours by the Enforcement Directorate on March 11. Kavitha was summoned on March 16 but she skipped her appearance and sought time. She has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the summons in the case.

She expressed apprehensions that the ED might adopt highly coercive tactics and even resort to third-degree measures in connection with their purported investigations.

Kavitha has alleged a political conspiracy behind the ED summons and termed it as an “extended arm” of the Central Government. She alleged that she was summoned by the probe agency on the basis of statements made under threat and coercion.

Telangana: After BRS, now BJP puts up posters shaming Kavitha

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The posters of BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, ‘shaming’ her on the issue of the ED investigation into her involvement in the Delhi Excise scam case surfaced on Saturday in the state with taglines like ‘You brought shame to Telangana’.

This comes after a series of posters put up by the BRS party mocking the BJP-led centre on several issues.

Kavitha on Thursday skipped the Enforcement Directorate(ED) summons here for questioning in the Delhi excise policy money laundering case and made a plea to defer the proceedings but it was rejected by the probe agency which asked her to appear on March 20.

Kavitha, MLC and daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, wrote to the ED saying it must wait for the outcome of her plea before the Supreme Court challenging the summons and seeking protection from arrest. The apex court on Wednesday agreed to hear the plea on March 24.

The Bharat Rashtra Samiti(BRS) leader, who was first questioned in this case by the ED on March 11 and asked to depose again on March 16, sent her “authorised representative” Soma Bharat Kumar, general secretary of the BRS, in the morning with a six-page petition to the investigating officer stating she was skipping the March 16 summons as they explicitly does not require her to appear in person.

“I humbly beseech your good self that the proceedings before the Supreme Court being sacred and sacrosanct, the outcome thereof must be awaited before any further proceedings take place with respect to the subject summons.

“I once again request your good self that you may please defer the proceedings awaiting appropriate order(s) or direction(s) by the Hon’ble Supreme Court,” she wrote in the letter sent to the ED.

Sources in the ED said her plea was rejected in view of the ongoing investigations which is at an important phase including the requirement of her physical and document-based confrontation with other accused arrested/involved in the case.

Kavitha has been asked to appear on March 20, officials said.

In her letter, Kavitha spoke about her first deposition before the ED where she said she “furnished all relevant information and answered all queries to the best of my knowledge, ability and understanding”.

Kavitha, however, expressed surprise and “shock” that her phone was “impounded” by the agency that day and she was not physically confronted with any arrested accused despite the agency’s earlier “categoric assertion” for the same.

She also wrote to the agency that being a woman she should not be called to the ED office for questioning but this exercise should either be conducted over a video link or the investigators can visit her residence for the same.

“I, therefore, have reasons to believe and a grave apprehension that the enquiry/investigation being carried out may not have the sanctity of law and my expectation of a free, fair, or impartial enquiry or investigation has been severely impaired,” she wrote.

Official sources had said that during the nine hours she spent at the ED office in Delhi on March 11, she was confronted with the statements made by Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandran Pillai, an arrested accused in the case who allegedly shares close ties with her, apart from those of few others involved in the case.

The BRS MLC’s statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Kavitha has asserted that she had done nothing wrong and alleged that the BJP-led Centre was “using” the ED as the saffron party could not gain a “backdoor entry” in Telangana.

Pillai, the ED had said, “represented the south group”, an alleged liquor cartel linked to Kavitha and others that paid kickbacks amounting to about Rs 100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to gain a larger share of the market in the national capital under the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2020-21.

The “south group”, according to the ED, “comprises” among others Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Pharma), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (YSR Congress MP from Ongole Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh), his son Raghav Magunta and Kavitha.

The ED also alleged in Pillai’s remand papers that he “represented the benami investments” of Kavitha in the excise policy case.

The BRS leader was earlier questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the case.

The ED has so far arrested 12 people in the case, including former Delhi deputy chief minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia.

It has also recorded the statement of Butchi Babu, an accountant allegedly linked to Kavitha, where he allegedly said “there was political understanding between K Kavitha and the chief minister (Arvind Kejriwal) and the deputy chief minister (Sisodia). In that process, K Kavitha also met Vijay Nair on March 19-20, 2021”.

Nair was arrested in the case by both the ED and the CBI. Butchi Babu has been arrested by the CBI.

According to Butchi Babu’s statement, Nair was “trying to impress Kavitha with what he could do in the (excise) policy”.

“Vijay Nair was acting on behalf of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia,” the statement recorded by the ED read.

It is alleged that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 to grant licences to liquor traders allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it, a charge strongly refuted by the AAP.

The policy was subsequently scrapped and the Delhi lieutenant governor recommended a CBI probe, following which the ED registered a case under the PMLA.

  • SC asks Telangana police not to continue probe into BRS MLAs poaching case

SC asks Telangana police not to continue probe into BRS MLAs poaching case

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Telangana police not to continue its investigation into the alleged criminal conspiracy behind an attempt to poach BRS MLAs allegedly by the BJP.

The development comes after the apex court, earlier this week, asked the CBI to not begin its probe in accordance with the Telangana High Court direction.

Senior advocate Dushyant Dave, representing the Telangana Police, contended before a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and M.M. Sundresh that on the last date of hearing on March 13, the matter was mentioned for hearing as no formal notice was issued. The apex court said the Telangana Police can’t continue with its probe, while issuing notice to the central agency, the BJP and others.

On March 13, the Supreme Court said the CBI should put on hold its investigation into alleged criminal conspiracy behind an attempt to poach BRS MLAs allegedly by the BJP, while hearing an appeal filed by the Telangana Police against the high court order in the matter.

The top court orally observed that the CBI should not proceed with the matter, while listing the matter for further hearing in July.

Dave had vehemently opposed transfer of probe to the CBI. The top court was informed that the case materials have not been handed over to the central agency so far. The bench said it is making it very clear that the CBI probe should not be continued while the matter is sub-judice.

Earlier, Dave had argued that the consequences of transferring the case to the CBI, which was allegedly under Centre’s control, would be serious. He had submitted that it would go to the heart of democracy.

A division bench of the Telangana High Court on February 6 upheld the earlier order of a single judge on December 26, 2022 transferring the case to the CBI. The Telangana Police had moved the apex court challenging this order.

The plea argued that the high court did not appreciate that the CBI directly works under the Centre and is under the control of the office of the Prime Minister and the Home Ministry. The state government alleged the involvement of some top BJP leaders to poach its four MLAs, was an attempt to topple the government.

The plea said: “The Bharatiya Janata Party is in power in the Central government and the allegations in the FIR are squarely and directly against the said party adopting illegal and criminal steps and methods to destabilize the Government of Telangana, the Hon’ble High Court therefore could not have entrusted the investigation to CBI in any case.”

“The High Court has unnecessarily drawn conclusion that release of the CD by the Chief Minister on November 3, 2022 amounted to interference with the investigation and therefore concluded that investigation was not fair and violated the rights of accused for fair investigation.”

Three persons – Ramachandra Bharati alias Satish Sharma, Nandu Kumar and Simhayaji Swamy, named as accused – have already been granted bail.

According to the FIR, MLA Rohith Reddy alleged that the accused in October last year, offered him Rs 100 crore for leaving the BRS.

It was also alleged that they asked Reddy to bring some more BRS MLAs by offering Rs 50 crore each to join the BJP.

In November last year, the state government had formed an SIT, comprising state police officers to investigate the matter.

BJP’s win in Teachers’ MLC proves anti-incumbency against BRS: Bandi

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay on Friday said that BJP winning the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency has proven strong sentiment of anti-incumbency against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

He added that polling for Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad teacher’s constituency has set the mood for Assembly elections.

While speaking to the media persons, Sanjay said, “This is the first time in the history of Telangana that the BJP won the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency.

This election proves strong anti-incumbency against the BRS, especially among government employees and the educated sections. This election has set the mood for the Assembly elections in November.”

The polling for the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers Constituency was held on March 13, with about 29,720 voters enrolled spread over nine districts in the constituency.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed candidate AVN Reddy won the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seat in Telangana.

After 21 rounds of counting, AVN Reddy secured 13,436 votes, crossing the required quota of 12,709 votes to emerge victorious.
