New Delhi: Cybercriminals have stolen about $4,00,000 using Tor Browser malware, affecting more than 15,000 users across 52 countries in 2023, a new report showed on Monday.

According to cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, the Tor Browser malware operates by replacing a portion of the entered clipboard contents with the cybercriminal’s own wallet address once it detects a wallet address in the clipboard.

“Despite the fake Tor Browser attack’s fundamental simplicity, it poses a greater danger than it seems. Not only does it create irreversible money transfers, but it is also passive and hard to detect for a regular user. Most malware requires a communication channel between the malware operator and the victim’s system,” said Vitaly Kamluk, Head of APAC Unit, Global Research & Analysis Team.

Cryptocurrency owners and traders are now actively being targeted by this new type of malware, which has been around for more than a decade and originally used by banking trojans for replacing bank account numbers, the report said.

The target user downloads a trojanized version of Tor Browser from a third-party resource containing a password protected RAR archive.

The purpose of the password is to prevent detection by security solutions. Once the file is dropped inside the user’s system, it registers itself in the system’s auto-start and is masqueraded with an icon of a popular application, such as uTorrent, according to the report.

Furthermore, the report mentioned that the malware targeted cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Monero.

These attacks have spread to at least 52 countries worldwide, with the majority of detections in Russia due to users downloading the infected Tor Browser.

The top 10 affected countries also include the US, Germany, Uzbekistan, Belarus, China, the Netherlands, the UK, and France.

New Delhi: Web browser company Opera on Wednesday announced that it is adding AI-powered features to its desktop browsers Opera and Opera GX — namely AI Prompts, plus sidebar access to ChatGPT, and ChatSonic, to transform users’ browsing experience.

These new tools are available in early access across all desktop platforms, according to the company.

AI Prompts, a native feature in the Opera Browser, will help users shorten a long confusing text or explain it to them, whether it’s a paragraph, a whole article, or even a website.

“Accessible when you highlight text or directly from the address bar, AI Prompts is your new, go-to tool to interpret, to summarise, and to explore the web, offering you an experience that’s tailored to your interests and needs,” Opera said in a blogpost.

Besides the new AI Prompts feature, users now also have access to the web versions of ChatGPT and ChatSonic right in the sidebar of the Opera browser.

The company said these two new features will help generate ideas, summaries, translations, and itineraries, plus users can write code, learn music, get help on math, draft text, and more.

“ChatSonic is additionally so clever that it can create images for you. Altogether, the new AIGC tools offer a portal to a more personal and intelligent web – one that provides solutions to your specific needs,” the browser maker mentioned.

Moreover, the company stated that it intends to announce more AI-powered features in the future, powered by its own GPT-based model.

  • Microsoft launches new AI-Powered Bing and Edge browser

Microsoft launches new AI-Powered Bing and Edge browser

    [ad_1]

Microsoft has announced an all-new AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge web browser based on a new OpenAI model that is more powerful than ChatGPT.

To empower people to unlock the joy of discovery, feel the wonder of creation and better harness the world’s knowledge, today we’re improving how the world benefits from the web by reinventing the tools billions of people use every day, the search engine and the browser.

Available in preview now at Bing.com, the new technology offers better search, more complete answers, a new chat experience and the ability to generate content.

“AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all – search,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “Today, we’re launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.”

    The new Bing and Edge

We have brought together search, browsing and chat into one unified experience you can invoke from anywhere on the web, delivering:

The new Bing gives you an improved version of the familiar search experience, providing more relevant results for simple things like sports scores, stock prices and weather, along with a new sidebar that shows more comprehensive answers if you want them.

    Complete answers

Bing reviews results from across the web to find and summarize the answer you’re looking for. For example, you can get detailed instructions for how to substitute eggs for another ingredient in a cake you are baking right in that moment, without scrolling through multiple results.

    A new chat experience

For more complex searches – such as for planning a detailed trip itinerary or researching what TV to buy – the new Bing offers new, interactive chat. The chat experience empowers you to refine your search until you get the complete answer you are looking for by asking for more details, clarity and ideas – with links available so you can immediately act on your decisions.

    A creative spark

There are times when you need more than an answer – you need inspiration. The new Bing can generate the content to help you. It can help you write an email, create a 5-day itinerary for a dream vacation to Hawaii, with links to book your travel and accommodations, prep for a job interview or create a quiz for trivia night. The new Bing also cites all its sources, so you’re able to see links to the web content it references.

    New Microsoft Edge experience

We’ve updated the Edge browser with new AI capabilities and a new look, and we’ve added two new functionalities: Chat and compose. With the Edge Sidebar, you can ask for a summary of a lengthy financial report to get the key takeaways – and then use the chat function to ask for a comparison to a competing company’s financials and automatically put it in a table. You can also ask Edge to help you compose content, such as a LinkedIn post, by giving it a few prompts to get you started. After that, you can ask it to help you update the tone, format and length of the post. Edge can understand the web page you’re on and adapts accordingly.
