Muscat: In a major step aimed at promoting family reunification and attracting skilled foreign workers, Oman has reduced the minimum salary requirement for expatriates to obtain a family visa, local media reported.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said the salary threshold for family visas has been reduced by more than 50 per cent.
As per a report by Times of Oman, previously, expatriates had to earn 600 OMR (Rs 1,29,087) per month to obtain visas for family members. Now, need to earn just 300 OMR (Rs 64,543) per month to qualify for a dependent visa.
The new policy also empowers sponsors to determine their family status as they can better assess their ability to support their family in Oman.
The reduction in the salary ceiling is expected to have a positive impact on the welfare of expatriate workers and their families as they can now reunite and build a more stable life in Oman.
The decision to reduce the salary requirement is expected to provide a significant boost to the Omani economy by attracting skilled workers.
Amaravati: Exuding confidence that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will form the government again in Andhra Pradesh, party’s national General Secretary, Nara Lokesh, on Sunday promised that it will bring down the prices of diesel and petrol.
Lokesh, who was on his padayatra ‘Yuva Galam’, interacted with an autorickshaw driver in Gangadhara Nellore Assembly segment. When the TDP leader enquired about the diesel price, the auto driver replied that it is Rs 95.39 per litre. “How come you are getting it for a lesser price,” Lokesh asked and the driver informed him that he fills the fuel in Tamil Nadu as he lives in the border area.
“It is certain that the TDP is going to come to power again and the taxes on fuel will be reduced to control the prices and there will be no need for you to cross the state border to fill uel to your vehicle,” Lokesh told him.
Later, at Eedigapalle, the Gouda community representatives met Lokesh and submitted a memorandum to him explaining the problems they were facing. Responding to them, Lokesh promised all the steps to resolve their issues once the TDP is back in power and his party is committed to the welfare of the toddy-tapper community.
He also promised to take measures for construction of roads and also extend financial assistance and subsidies to them through the BC Welfare Corporation. “Our sole aim is this psycho should go and cycle should come back,” Lokesh said.
“My mike may be grabbed from me but my voice can not be choked. The people are my strength. I always raise my voice against this atrocious rule,” he said while addressing people at KM Puram of Karvetinagaram.
Pointing out that several leaders undertook padyatras earlier in the State, Lokesh asked why problems were being created only for him when he began his venture. “My campaign vehicle and sound system have been seized while my mike was grabbed from me by the police. But the police can not choke my voice and I will raise my tone even if there is no mike,” he said.
Hyderabad: If Bharatiya Janata Party is voted to power in Telangana, it would demolish the domes of newly-built state secretariat that reflect the culture of the Nizams, state party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar announced on Friday.
Addressing a street corner meeting of the party at Old Boinpally under Kukatpally assembly constituency limits as part of “Janam Gosa-BJP Bharosa” Programme, Sanjay said the forthcoming BJP government would wipe out all kinds of structures that are symbols of slavery of the Nizam regime.
“If we are voted to power, we shall destroy the cultural symbols of the Nizam in Telangana, including the domes of the newly-built Secretariat. We shall make suitable changes that reflect the Indian and Telangana culture,” he said, adding that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had converted Tajmahal-like Secretariat into a graveyard only to appease the Owaisis.
Sanjay also announced that Pragati Bhavan, the official bungalow of the chief minister, would also be converted into a Praja Darbar.
Reacting to minister KT Rama Rao’s statement that the government would demolish places of worship that cause hurdles for the expansion of roads, the BJP president challenged KTR to demolish, if he could, the mosques that were built in the middle of the roads in the old city of Hyderabad.
He alleged that the ruling party leaders had encroached upon the poor people’s lands in Kukatpally and when the latter registered protests, they were being booked in false cases.
Stating that there was an overwhelming response to the BJP everywhere in the state, Sanjay said the street corner meetings were aimed at explaining to the people the anarchic rule of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi to the people and the success stories of the Narendra Modi government.
“The chief minister is confined to either farmhouse or Pragati Bhavan and is least bothered about the people. Till now, the government employees haven’t got their salaries and development has taken a back seat,” he said.
Stating that 60 percent of the income of the state comes from Hyderabad, the BJP leader demanded that the state government explain how much of it is spent on the development of Hyderabad. “The KCR government is caught in neck-deep corruption and it is time the people teach him a fitting lesson,” he added.

Jaipur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday urged the people to bring in a sense of equality along with freedom.
Addressing the Republic Day celebrations organised at Keshav Vidyapeeth here, he said: “B.R. Ambedkar, while dedicating the Constitution to the public, said that there is no slavery in the country. Even the British have gone, but to remove the slavery that came due to social conservatism, the provision of political equality and economic equality was made in the Constitution. That is why, it is necessary to read both the speeches given by Babasaheb in the Parliament on Republic Day.”
Saying that B.R. Ambedkar showed the path of duty, the RSS chief said that for (individual) freedom, it is necessary to take care of the freedom of others.
“That’s why, it is important to have equality. To have freedom and equality together, it is necessary to bring fraternity. Ideological differences arise as part of the democratic process in Parliament. Despite this, if the spirit of fraternity prevails, then the situation of equality and freedom remains,” he said.
“After Independence, the Constitution was framed to define the path and this glorious day is celebrated as Republic Day. The Tricolour is hoisted on both days. Its saffron colour symbolises the tradition of knowledge and continuous work with ‘Sanatan’. This is the colour of the sunrise, the harbinger of action. As a Republic, we will make our country a nation of knowledgeable and hard-working people. It is necessary to get the direction of activism, sacrifice and knowledge. The flag wears white to represent power. This colour unites us. Green colour is the symbol of prosperity and Lakshmi. The feeling of ‘Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu’ is born in the mind. Keeping the diverse society united, we should take a pledge about how far we will move forward till the next Republic Day.
The programme started with the lighting of the lamp and the National Anthem, and ended with the collective singing of ‘Vande Mataram’.
San Francisco: Microsoft is reportedly testing a new split-screen feature for Edge that will let users compare two tabs side-by-side.
The feature was discovered by a Reddit user named Leopeva64-2 and is now available in the beta, dev, and canary versions of Microsoft Edge with an experimental flag, reports The Verge.
Once the feature becomes enabled, a new button will appear alongside the address bar, letting users split an Edge window into two separate tabs side-by-side.
Windows already allows you to compare tabs next to each other by dragging the tab to the right or left of the screen and using the built-in Windows split view, but doing this is fiddly unless you drag the tab all the way there, said the report.
This built-in split view in Edge makes it easier in a single click, without having to re-arrange your tabs or open up a new window of a browser.
Meanwhile, Microsoft ended support for Edge web browser on both Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.
The company has also ended support for Microsoft Edge WebView2 for both operating systems.
WebView2 is a developer control for embedding web content in applications.
Moreover, Chrome support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 has also ended, and now users will need to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11 to use the browser.
Goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen handed Napoli a 2-0 win at Salernitana 2-0 as they took another step closer to ending their 33 year-wait for a Serie A title.
Napoli controlled much of the game and Victor Osimhen thought he had given them a 35th-minute lead but was ruled offside by VAR.
The league leaders eventually went ahead during the first-half stoppage time when a cross fell to Giovanni Di Lorenzo who fired home. An unmarked Osimhen doubled the lead in the 48th minute when he tapped in a rebound after Eljif Elmas’ effort had come back off a post.
The result means Napoli have won 16 of their 19 league games and stretched their advantage over second-place AC Milan, who play Lazio on Tuesday, to 12 points.
Goals either side of half-time from Fabio Depaoli and Darko Lazovic helped Verona secure only their third league win of the season, a 2-0 home success over Lecce.
Antoine Griezmann grabbed a goal and an assist as Atlético Madrid returned to winning ways with a 3-0 home victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga.
First-half goals from Griezmann, Álvaro Morata and Mario Hermoso earned fourth-placed Atlético just their second win in their last seven league games, while a fifth straight defeat for Valladolid leaves them one point above the relegation zone in 17th.
Diego Simeone’s side seized control of the game by scoring three quickfire goals in the first half. Griezmann set up Morata for the first in the 18th minute with a clever flick, before getting on the scoresheet himself with a delightfully improvised backheel.

The Frenchman was heavily involved in the third as well, finding Hermoso with a free-kick. Hermoso’s header was denied by Valladolid goalkeeper Jordi Masip but the rebound fell back at his feet to make it 3-0 in the 28th minute.
Real Sociedad are seven points and a place above Atlético, level on points with second-placed Real Madrid but having played two games more, after a 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano. Alexander Sørloth and Ander Barrenetxea scored the goals.
Martin Braithwaite scored the only goal just before half-time as Espanyol edged out Real Betis at home.
In Germany, Wolfsburg crushed visitors Freiburg 6-0 with three goals in each half as the Bundesliga restarted after a two-month World Cup and winter break.
Jonas Wind struck twice following Patrick Wimmer’s second-minute opener, with Yannick Gerhardt adding another early in the second half to seal their fifth straight league victory. Baku Ridle rattled in another in the 80th minute before a stoppage time Luca Waldschmidt penalty completed the demolition job.
The win lifted Wolfsburg to sixth on 26 points while Freiburg, who had won four of their previous five Bundesliga matches, dropped to fourth place on 30. It was also Freiburg’s heaviest league loss since coach Christian Streich took over 11 years ago.

Bayern Munich lead the standings on 35 points after drawing 1-1 at RB Leipzig on Friday with Union Berlin third after they came from behind to win 3-1 against Hoffenheim thanks to a second half double from Danilho Doekhi.
Cologne scored five goals inside the opening 36 minutes as they thrashed Werder Bremen 7-1 at home. Steffen Tigges was on target twice with Linton Maina, Ellyes Skhiri and Denis Huseinbasic also finding the net before Niclas Fullkrug pulled one back for Bremen before half-time. Skhiri made it 6-1 after the interval before a Marco Friedl own goal completed Bremen’s misery.
