    Nagpur: A 34-year-old man was booked in Nagpur for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage, while two of his brothers have been charged with assaulting her, a police official said on Monday.

    The 27-year-old victim has said she was raped between February 2, 2020 and October 5, 2022 by the accused, and when his brothers came to know about their relationship they thrashed her, the official said.

    New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a case of disproportionate assets case against former Allahabad High Court judge Justice S.N. Shukla and his wife, alleging they allegedly amassing assets worth Rs 2.45 crore disproportionate to their known source of income.

    The CBI has alleged that the assets was acquired by them between 2015 and 2019, when Shukla was serving on the bench.

    In 2019, a case was lodged against Shukla and retired judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, I.M. Quddusi for getting bribe for a court order which was in favour of a medical college based in Lucknow.

    In 2019, them Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra had recommended impeachment of Shukla after a Supreme Court’s in-house probe came against Shukla. However, Shukla wasn’t impeached at that time. Next Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi also favored the impeachment of Shukla.

    Now, the CBI has lodged a fresh disproportionate assets case against Shukla and his wife, and in the coming days, can issue summons to him to join the investigation.

    Aligarh: Three police personnel, including an Inspector and Sub-Inspector, have been booked in connection with the alleged suicide attempt by a 19-year-old woman at the Vijaygarh police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh in May last year.

    Station House Officer (SHO), Jitendra Kumar, Vijaygarh police station, said, “A case against three police personnel — Inspector, and Sub-Inspector, and a woman constable have been registered. Further investigation is ongoing, and action will be taken accordingly.”

    The police personnel have been booked under section 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days) of the Indian Penal Code.

    The woman was reportedly lured by a man identified as Akash to Gujarat, following which her family members filed a case.

    Based on the complaint, police traced the girl and held her at the Vijaygarh police station, but the woman dodged the police and attempted suicide by jumping off the roof of a second-storey building.

    She was taken to the JN Medical College for treatment where she died after three days.

    After the incident, the Aligarh District Magistrate ordered a probe into the matter.

    After months of investigation, a case was registered against the policemen in the matter.

    A case was also filed against Akash on April 28, 2022.

    Hyderabad: Telangana has recorded a total of 991 cases related to the manufacturing and supply of spurious seeds between 2014-2022.

    A coordinated and firm action from all district superintendents of police and commissioners of police lead to curbing the menace of spurious seeds.

    According to officials, 991 cases were booked between 2014-2022 with about 1,932 persons including dealers and suppliers being arrested in connection with the act.

    The Telangana police have so far held 58 offenders under the Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) with a determination to continue crackdown on such dealers.

    Director General of Police, Anjani Kumar said, “A coordinated and firm action mode of police commissioners and district superintendents to curb the menace of spurious seeds was helping in the crackdown against such seeds.”

    “Most of them have no valid license from the Agriculture Department and sell spurious seeds in the guise of genuine seeds to farmers and others,” said an official.

    Police officials elaborated on the act saying that the traders were purchasing huge quantities of unauthorized spurious vegetable seeds from various states like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan for a low price and selling the same to farmers and customers at a higher price in Telangana.

    Police have further advised agriculture sector workers to avoid purchasing the local company seeds in the market especially those without labelling and advised purchasing loose seeds would be beneficial.

    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board member, Sohail Kazmi, was on Wednesday booked for duping unemployed youth on pretext of government job.

    As per information received, a case under FIR number 12/2023 under section 420 IPC has been registered against Sohail Qazmi at Police Station Peermitha, Jammu.

    Quoting sources the news agency KNO reported that Dr K L Sharma filed a written complaint that Sohail Kazmi duped the unemployed youth of Rs 5 lakhs  from the complainant in lieu of providing the fourth class job in government department in 2021.

    “When the candidate was not selected then the complainant approached to Kazmi and requested to repay the amount of Rs 5 Lakh but the accused refused to repay the said amount.”

    Hyderabad: In view of curbing illegal activities on the outskirts of the city, 32 farmhouses were raided by the Special Operations Teams (SOTs) in coordination with the Cyberabad police for organising gambling and illegal supply of liquor.

    On receiving a tip-off, the police conducted surprise checking at 32 locations last weekend and on Monday and booked cases against the anti-social activities carried out in them.

    The farmhouses located on the outskirts of the city that were reportedly raided include the Bigg Boss farmhouse in Moinabad, Jahangir Dream Valley, The Ripplez farmhouse in Shamshabad, and Govardhan Reddy’s farmhouse in Medchal.

    Police seized 29 liquor bottles, hookah material, one lakh cash, 10 sets of playing cards and seven cell phones from these farmhouses.

    Rajkot: A Dalit student in Gujarat’s Rajkot alleged that his classmates beat him because of his caste and a case has been filed against four students, police said on Saturday.

    Darshit Makwana, a student of Information Technology at the Marwadi University, in his complaint at the Kuvadva police station on Friday, said that on Thursday afternoon, Suraj Narodia, Nandkumar Gami, Purav, and one unknown student kicked him and beat him ruthlessly, due to which he almost fell unconscious, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

    Makwana also said that six months ago, the accused had taunted him that because he is from a scheduled caste, he obtained free admission in the college, otherwise, he is not financially sound to study there.

    Barmer: An FIR was registered on Sunday against Yoga guru Ramdev for allegedly promoting enmity and outraging religious feelings over his provocative remarks at a meeting of seers in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, police said.

    The FIR was registered at Chauhatan police station based on a complaint filed by a local resident, Pathai Khan, a police officer said.

    According to Chauhatan police station SHO Bhutaram, the case was registered under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298 (uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person).

    At the meeting of seers on February 2, Ramdev accused Muslims of resorting to terror and abducting Hindu women while comparing Hinduism to Islam and Christianity.

    He alleged that the two faiths were obsessed with conversion while Hinduism taught its followers to do good.

    Lahore: A former provincial lawmaker of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shabbir Gujjar, was on Saturday booked under terrorism charges, local media reported.

    According to the police, 12 provisions, including terrorism, have been added in the case filed against the PTI member, The Express Tribune reported.

    The FIR stated that the former MPA and PTI member Khalid Gujjar used “modern weapons, including Kalashnikovs, on policemen” during a raid, report said.

    It was also reported that the associates of the leader pelted stones and vandalized the official police vehicle.

    The FIR also claimed that the policemen were taken hostage inside the camp and the PTI members opened fire indiscriminately on Raiwand Road in Lahore, The Express Tribune reported.

    Police sources said that more personnel were called and seven people were arrested in connection with the firing incident, adding that Kalashnikovs and bullets were also seized from the camp.

    The police have registered a case and have started the process to arrest the main accused.

    Last year, several PTI leaders were booked on terrorism charges by the Islamabad police in the wake of protests following former premier Imran Khan’s disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), The Express Tribune reported.

    The cases were registered against PTI leaders, including Senator Faisal Javed, among others.

    The FIR registered against the party members had claimed that the protestors had pelted stones at the police and FC officials, leading to many injuries.
