Basant Rath Details His BJP Joining, Blames Kashmir Political Class

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Senior IPS officer, Basant Rath, has hit left, right and centre to justify his joining the far-right BJP. In a write-up, he has attacked the separatists, Kashmir politics and the Congress and termed the Kashmir politicians as “conflict entrepreneurs” “theatre artists of Gupkar” who play “politics of identity capitalism” and politics of “Kashmir exceptionalism”.

“I decided to quit the IPS and join BJP because I intend to challenge the political monopoly of the conflict entrepreneurs of Gupkar, Maisuma and Rajouri Kadal and help open up democratic space for our youth,” Rath wrong in a write up in the Outlook. “Because I wish to focus my energy and integrity to do in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh what Abdul Sattar Edhi did to health and education sectors in Pakistan.”

Rath who never went on central deputation and always remained within Jammu and Kashmir sees the erstwhile state as his karambhoomi. An IGP rank officer, he had face-offs with politicians as well as his bosses. More than once, the police registered cases against him.

His write up starts with this paragraph: “Because while hundreds of people lost their lives in Srinagar in a certain year, the then chief minister who did nothing to prevent those deaths, threw tantrums in Gupkar because he couldn’t get his daily quota of Rainbow-brand milk imported from Dubai.”

Another interesting paragraph is: “Because female students can’t help using tardy, overcrowded buses and matadors run by ill-behaved, abusive drivers; and they can’t help facing harassment, humiliation and monetary loot during their daily commute. And the vehicles are owned by businessmen who pay hefty bribes to cabbages masquerading as politicians.”

The write up talks about “dozens of politicians” who siphoned thousands of crores of rupees of taxpayers’ money to finance their business ventures in Bengaluru and Burz Khalifa. Besifdes, it said the politicians have encroached upon meadows in Gulmarg and Ganderbal; and grabbed public land in Bagat Parraypora, Bathindi and Nagrota to build palatial houses for their clan.

Apparently responding to the question Why I Decided To Quit The IPS And Join BJP, the senior IPS write. “Because these theatre artists of Gupkar play politics of identity capitalism to fool the innocent public, steal their votes and loot their hard-earned money. While in power, they preside over the health department that has blood on its hands, the blood of hundreds of toddlers who die in the children hospital in Srinagar in winters. While out of power, these politicians share requests for oxygen cylinders and blood donation on Twitter.” He adds: “Because some tall leaders play condolence politics in Jammu and Kashmir before polling and thank Pakistan after the elections. In public speeches in Sopore and Shopian, they’ll exhort the masses to stay away from polling booths, and to kill and to get killed in the name of Kashmiri exceptionalism; and away from public glare, they’ll use Pakistani money to build palatial houses in Hyderpora and Maisuma.”

Another reason of the poet-cops is: “Because cabbages are bad for the health of the political space in J and K. Because a clean divorce is healthier than a dirty marriage in one’s life.”

It is not known if his resignation has been accepted and if at all he has formally joined the ruling BJP.

Israel’s cyber security chief blames Iran for cyberattacks

    [ad_1]

Jerusalem: Gaby Portnoy, Director-General of Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD), has accused Iran of “leading an aggressive, orchestrated campaign against Israel’s cyberspace”.

Portnoy made the remarks on Tuesday at the annual CyberTech Global conference held in the coastal city of Tel Aviv with the participation of hundreds of companies, startups, government entities, and organizations, Xinhua news agency reported.

“The Israeli cyberspace experiences attacks much like other countries, except we also have Iran on top of all of them,” he said.

Portnoy claimed that the INCD in 2022 thwarted about 1,000 major cyberattacks, “which could have caused widespread and substantial damage to the Israeli economy.”

Moreover, the official also introduced at the conference the INCD’s “cyber dome” system, which he said will provide various free cybersecurity tools and services to eligible organizations through a public portal.

  • Palestinian Prez blames Israel for tension in meeting with Blinken

Palestinian Prez blames Israel for tension in meeting with Blinken

    [ad_1]

Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that the Israeli government “is fully responsible for the current tension and violence in the Palestinian territories”.

Abbas made the remarks during a meeting held at the presidential headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah with Blinken, who is on a three-day Middle East visit that started on Sunday, the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported on Tuesday.

“The Israeli government is responsible for the deterioration on the ground today because it has undermined the two-state solution and violated the signed agreements,” he was quoted as saying.

The Palestinian President also accused the international community of failing to end the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories and end the Israeli settlement policy in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Xinhua news agency reported.

He added that there is a lack of international efforts to recognise the Palestinian state and its full membership in the UN.

“There is also opposition to the efforts of the Palestinians to defend their existence and their legitimate rights in international forums and courts and to provide international protection for our people,” Abbas noted.

He told Blinken that “this policy encourages the Israeli occupier to commit more crimes and violates international law”.

The Palestinian President listed to US Secretary of State the Israeli unilateral actions and violations, including settlements, actual annexation of lands, settler terror, storming Palestinian territory, killing crimes, and house demolitions.

“Israel is being overlooked, without deterrence or accountability, as it continues its unilateral operations and crimes against the Palestinians and their properties,” said Abbas.

He added that “the complete cessation of unilateral Israeli actions, which violate the signed agreements and international law, is the main entry point for returning the political horizon and ending the Israeli occupation”.

“All this can be achieved under international references and the Arab Peace Initiative to make peace, stability, and security for all in our region and the world,” Abbas said.

The Palestinians want to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel in 1967 and establish an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Peace negotiations sponsored by the US had stopped in 2014 following deep differences on issues like settlement, security and the Israeli recognition of a Palestinian state.

The Palestinian Health Ministry had earlier stated that since January 1, the Israeli Army had killed 34 Palestinians, including children and women, in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Palestinian officials had warned of the Israeli escalation of killing Palestinians, mainly after the formation of the new Israeli government headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which is the most right-wing in Israel’s history.

  • Socialist leader Raghu Takhur blames Cong for rise of Hindutva politics

Socialist leader Raghu Takhur blames Cong for rise of Hindutva politics

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Socialist Raghu Thakur expressed concern over the increasing communal polarization in the country’s politics, and held the Congress responsible for it.

He alleged that the Congress helped build the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) to weaken the socialists in the country.

The BJS, the political arm of RSS, existed from 1951 to 1977.

In a special conversation with IANS, Raghu Thakur said, after Independence, the Congress party tried to take politics to the religious path. The Congress helped build the BJS and it is because of that the condition of the Congress is such today.

Thakur alleged said that the Congress strategised in a planned manner and tried to take the BJS forward. Congress believed that the staunch Hinduist party would not get the support of many people, because the government is of Congress and Congress also runs on Hindu mindset, Muslims will continue to vote for Congress because of their fear. In this way, the Congress started communal polarisation.

He further said that Congress adopted the policy of appeasement of Muslims to take them along in the structure it prepared, but Congress forgot that the consequences of Muslim appeasement would be harmful for itself.

BJP has been successful in uniting Hindus after 70 years and that is the reason why it is in power today. The socialist movement has to bear its biggest loss, the reason for this is because socialists are neither Hindus nor Muslims. This is the reason why many a time Samajwadi contests elections even in Muslim dominated areas and has to face defeat.

In response to a question, Raghu Thakur said that in the present era, BJP is completely moving forward on fanatical Hinduism, while the Muslim vote-bank tries to defeat BJP. But, the result of this is that BJP gets benefitted. Two elections in Bhopal are examples of this, once Agnivesh contested and second time Digvijay Singh, both had to face a big defeat.

In response to a question, Raghu Thakur said both BJP and Congress are opposed to small parties. He said that while Congress swallows small parties, BJP chews them and swallows them.

Raghu Thakur believes that the socialist ideology has deep roots. He says that even though the socialist movement has become weak, the socialist ideology is still there in the society and the political parties are running on it only.

Whether it is BJP or Congress, both move forward with socialist ideas. Examples of this are giving equal rights to women, providing bread to the poor, as well as running schemes for the welfare of the poor.

  • British-Indian doc blames UK hospital for her suicide: Report

British-Indian doc blames UK hospital for her suicide: Report

    [ad_1]

London: A 35-year-old British-Indian doctor, who ended her life in June last year, had blamed the hospital where she worked for her death, according to a suicide note shared by her parents.

Junior doctor Vaishnavi Kumar, who worked at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), said in the letter that the working environment “just broke me”.

“I am sorry mum, I can blame the whole thing on the QEH,” she wrote in her note, which was not read out during her inquest last year, the BBC reported.

Kumar said in her note to her mother that her mental health had declined while working at the QEH and she was “now a nervous wreck”.

The inquest found that Kumar ended her life after she struggled to cope up with “bullying and condescension at work”, and often returned home crying.

Kumar’s parents told the BBC they had now released her final words in an attempt to help other junior doctors.

“She must have gone through a huge amount of bullying and stress otherwise she is not the girl who would have done this,” Dr Ravi Kumar, who believes the QEH “destroyed” his daughter, told the BBC.

“So people who have done this have done a huge amount of damage and that makes me angry,” the heartbroken father said.

Before moving to QEH, Vaishnavi Kumar worked as a chief registrar at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals where she was seen as an outstanding trainee and a mentor for other junior doctors, with strong leadership skills, the report said.

Her struggle at QEH began around December 2021 and she committed suicide on June 22, 2022.

The QEH comes under the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which is recognised as one of the leading NHS trusts in the UK with more than 20,000 members of staff.

Last month, British-Sikh MP from Birmingham Preet Kaur Gill had called on the Health Secretary to initiate an independent inquiry into the alleged bullying culture at the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB).

Gill said staff and former staff members described being harassed over several years, leading to counselling, depression and extended periods off work.

According to the BBC, UHB is currently subject to three separate reviews following reports of staff saying there is a “climate of fear” at the Trust.

The Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board announced a three-part review into the culture at UHB.

The first report is expected at the end of January 2023.
