Vote for any party but not TMC, BJP’s Suvendu urges people

Chandrakona: Donning a white T-shirt with his ‘No Vote to Mamata’ slogan on it, leader of opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Monday addressed a rally in Paschim Medinipur district, urging the people to vote for any party in the panchayat elections but not the TMC.
Addressing the rally in Chandrakona, Adhikari claimed that a BJP government in the state can accelerate the development of West Bengal as it will work in synergy with the Centre.
“I would urge the people not to cast their votes for this corrupt TMC. Vote for any party or candidate you like, but please don’t cast your valuable votes for this party of thieves,” he said.

“If those opposed to the TMC stick to their single-point agenda of removing it from power, then this corrupt regime can be ousted,” he added.
Criticising the ‘No Vote to BJP’ campaign ahead of the 2021 assembly elections, Adhikari coined the ‘No Vote to Mamata’ slogan, which he used extensively during the Sagardighi bypolls in Murshidabad district. The Congress with the support of the Left Front won the by-election last month in a major setback to the TMC.
Amid criticism by the TMC that the state BJP was working in an understanding with the Congress and the CPI(M), Adhikari had earlier clarified that “No Vote to Mamata” doesn’t mean a call to vote for the other two opposition parties.
TMC state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said his party enjoys “solid support” of the people of the state, and the results of the upcoming elections would prove it.
“We all know that the CPI(M), BJP and the Congress have formed an unholy alliance in West Bengal. But, this nexus will be defeated by the TMC with the support of the people of the state,” he said.

Maha: BJP’s Savarkar Yatra in Aurangabad to start on April 2

Aurangabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gaurav Yatra’ in support of late Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district will start from April 2, BJP’s local leadership announced on Wednesday.
This came a day after the BJP announced that Savarkar Gaurav Yatras would be taken out in each district to honour Savarkar’s contribution to the country and to counter Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticism against him.
The Savarkar Gaurav Yatra in Aurangabad will commence on April 2 from Nirala Bazar where the statue of Savarkar is located, said BJP’s city president Shirish Boralkar. The Yatra will go on in one constituency for two days, he said.
In a press meet, BJP leader and state Co-operative Minister Atul Save said, “For the past few days, leaders of opposition parties are using insulting words against V D Savarkar. The people of Maharashtra cannot tolerate this for long. Therefore, BJP has decided to take out Savarkar Gaurav Yatra in every constituency,” he said.
The first rally of Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders is also scheduled in Aurangabad on April 2 on Marathwada Sanskrutik Mandal ground. Former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, NCP leader Ajit Pawar and Congress state unit president Nana Patole will address the rally here.

Nadda to chair meeting of BJP’s OBC MPs

New Delhi: BJP National President J.P. Nadda will chair a meeting of all the OBC MPs of the party at party headquarters in the national capital on Wednesday.
According to a source, Nadda will meet all the OBC MPs at the party office at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The focus of the meeting will be the upcoming state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
“Party president will review the ongoing outreach programmes for the OBC community. He will also discuss the party’s strategy to win the hearts of the community… There are many policies and programmes of the Modi government for the benefit of OBCs, party will highlight them during the outreach campaign,” he added.

Bansuri Swaraj appointed co-convener of Delhi BJP’s legal cell

New Delhi: Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, has been appointed as co-convener of the legal cell of Delhi BJP, paving her entry into active politics.
Swaraj practices law in the Supreme Court.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, in his first appointment in the state unit, after taking over as full-time state president of the party, appointed Swaraj as co-convener of the legal cell.
In a letter issued on Friday, Sachdeva said that Swaraj’s appointment would come into force with immediate effect and hoped that she would strengthen the BJP.
Swaraj said she was a qualified lawyer and had been helping the party in legal matters earlier as well.
“It is just that I have been formally given an opportunity to serve the party more actively in the capacity as a legal department co-convener of the Delhi BJP,” she told PTI.

BJP’s IT, minorities cells go on overdrive in UP for 2024 general election

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh is the most important state to capture the power in Delhi. For the last two Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has been achieving stupendous success in Uttar Pradesh. In 2024 also, the party wants to repeat this success again. This is the reason why the saffron party has made a completely different strategy this time in the state.
The BJP is considered far ahead of its opponents in terms of social media and IT reach. This time the BJP is further strengthening its IT team in the state — a strategy that will not be easy for its opponents to match.
About 27,000 IT teams are being prepared in the state. In fact, there are about 27,000 ‘Shakti Kendras’ in BJP’s state. These centres play an important role in taking the party’s campaigns, programmes to the grassroots level and taking feedback.
The BJP wants to strengthen its network by connecting these Shakti Kendras online. By doing this, the leadership will have a direct eye on the workers working at the grassroots level. Information related to the programmes and campaigns of the party will reach the workers in a better way. Along with this, the party will be able to do video conferencing with the workers even at the smallest level and will be able to get the grassroots feedback directly.
Significantly, in 2019, BJP had won 62 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Ten seats went to the BSP and five to the SP, while Congress got only one seat.
The BJP had won 71 out of 80 seats in the state in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. This success of the party was surprising as it had got only 10 seats in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
Not only the IT department, BJP’s Minority cell in Uttar Pradesh is also way ahead in the preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
‘Sufi Samvad’
BJP’s Minority Morcha on Wednesday launched a year-long outreach programme for Muslims, named ‘Sufi Samvad’. The campaign launched in the run up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections especially focuses on the Muslim-dominated districts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala and Telangana.

According to the party’s minority morcha head Jamal Siddiqui, a team of 150 people associated with Sufism has been formed for the campaign, which will culminate in a large meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative comes months after Prime Minister Modi suggested that the party workers reach out to Sufis, Bohras, and Pasmandas in the country’s Muslim community.
At the launch of the campaign on Wednesday, people working in Sufi dargahs across 30 states and Union territories gathered at the BJP headquarters to firm up various events under the campaign.
Majority of the events under this initiative will be held in the Muslim-majority districts and where there is a substantial population of Muslims.
A special focus will be laid on Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Bihar and Telangana, which cumulatively send 199 members to the Lok Sabha.
Earlier in March, the BJP made history by retaking control of Tripura, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, three northeastern states that recently had Assembly elections, and keeping them under its control with the aid of its allies.

Demonising Tipu: Vokkaliga pontiff pours cold water over BJP’s attempt

Bengaluru: The ruling BJP in Karnataka has made significant electoral gains by opposing erstwhile Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan, but its most recent campaign fell flat after a strong rebuke by the Vokkaliga pontiff.
The saffron party organised protests across the state after the earlier Congress government led by Siddaramaiah began the celebrations of Tipu’s birth anniversary. However, this time, the saffron party’s calculations of projecting Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, believed to be Vokkaliga soldiers, as killing Tipu Sultan have gone awry.
Ahead of the assembly polls, the saffron party’s plan to hijack the Vokkaliga vote bank and register a victory in at least 20 to 30 assembly seats to achieve a simple majority has suffered a setback.
Minister for Higher Education, IT and BT C.N. Ashwath Narayan gave a call at a public rally to finish off Opposition leader Siddaramaiah like Tipu Sultan was finished off by Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda. Though he apologized, the development indicated the saffron party’s calculations about its outreach to the Vokkaliga community.
The Vokkaliga community plays an important role in the elections and it is dominant in the south Karnataka districts. The Bharatiya Janata Party has not been able to make inroads into the Vokkaliga vote bank so far. The Vokkaligas are standing firmly with former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s JD (S) party and the Congress.
Among the 40 to 45 seats that the Vokkaliga candidates won, the BJP was hoping to wrest 20 seats in the upcoming assembly elections.
The theory claiming that Tipu Sultan was not killed by the British but was finished off by Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, both Vokkaligas, was put forth. However, D.K. Shivakumar, Karnataka Congress president, issued a statement that there is no evidence to prove the existence of Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda in history. He also challenged the BJP leaders to produce evidence to prove their claim.
The saffron party was taken aback after the minister for horticulture Munirathna, also a film producer, announced a movie in the name of Nanje Gowda and Uri Gowda and released posters.

Vokkaliga pontiff Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of Adichinchanagiri Mutt intervened and asked the leaders of all the parties imcluding the JD (S), BJP and Congress not to speak about Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda.
“There should not be a distortion of history. Without research, issuing statements is not tenable. There is confusion regarding the Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda narrative. Do not talk about them repeatedly. The Vokkaliga community will be harmed by these statements,” Nirmanalandanatha stated.
He asked BJP national general secretary C.T. Ravi and minister Ashwath Narayan not to rake up the issue and instead submit the relevant documents to the mutt.
After this, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that the BJP has not suffered any setback on the issue. “There is no question of a setback in this regard. Victory will be achieved when the truth is established through research. Many historical facts are hidden in the country and in Karnataka as well. The whole world knows who is behind all this. They can’t tolerate the truth,” Bommai maintained.
D. Javare Gowda (late Kannada writer) has recorded in the book “Suvarna Mandya” that these two characters are not fictional but historical. They are asking for proof of these two killing Tipu Sultan. Research must be carried out in this regard, Ravi maintained. He said that the Vokkaliga pontiff will be given an explanation and the real picture.
Meanwhile, D.K. Shivakumar has issued a warning that if the narrative of Nanje Gowda and Uri Gowda killing Tipu Sultan is pursued, he would begun an agitation as a member of the Vokkaliga community.
Addanda Karyappa, a right-wing litterateur who attempted to object to the statements of the Vokkaliga pontiff, had to face an agitation and apologize.
Sources in the saffron party said that they totally failed to get popular support this time. The BJP only managed to get a response from people opposing the celebration of Tipu’s birth anniversary.
The party also removed parts of the syllabus glorifying Tipu Sultan. However, the attempt to woo the Vokkaliga vote bank by raking up a controversy over the death of Tipu Sultan has failed miserably.

BJP’s win in Teachers’ MLC proves anti-incumbency against BRS: Bandi

Hyderabad: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Bandi Sanjay on Friday said that BJP winning the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency has proven strong sentiment of anti-incumbency against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
He added that polling for Mahbubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad teacher’s constituency has set the mood for Assembly elections.
While speaking to the media persons, Sanjay said, “This is the first time in the history of Telangana that the BJP won the MLC seat in the Teachers’ constituency.
This election proves strong anti-incumbency against the BRS, especially among government employees and the educated sections. This election has set the mood for the Assembly elections in November.”
The polling for the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers Constituency was held on March 13, with about 29,720 voters enrolled spread over nine districts in the constituency.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed candidate AVN Reddy won the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Teachers’ Member of Legislative Council (MLC) seat in Telangana.
After 21 rounds of counting, AVN Reddy secured 13,436 votes, crossing the required quota of 12,709 votes to emerge victorious.

BJP’s minority morcha launches Muslim outreach campaign in run-up to 2024 LS polls

New Delhi: In the run-up to the 2024 parliamentary elections, the BJP’s minority morcha on Wednesday launched a year-long Muslim outreach programme — “Sufi Samvad” — with a special focus on the Muslim-dominated districts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala and Telangana.
A team of 150 people linked to Sufism has been formed for the campaign which will culminate with a large meeting to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party’s minority morcha head Jamal Siddiqui said.
The initiative comes months after Prime Minister Modi suggested that party workers should reach out to Sufis, Bohras and Pasmandas among the Muslim community in the country.
“On the directions of Prime Minister Modi to reach out to the Sufis who are advocates of peace and harmony, this initiative has been taken,” Siddiqui told reporters here.
At the launch of the campaign on Wednesday, people working in Sufi dargahs across 30 states and Union territories gathered at the BJP headquarters to firm up various events under the campaign.
Media coordinator for the programme Yasir Jilani said the fact is that the Modi government has worked for all, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, and the objective is to reach out to the Muslim community and spread this message.

Poonch: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said his party would not remain silent about the alleged onslaught of the BJP on the opposition parties in pursuit of its goal of “making India a BJP Rashtra”.
The former chief minister said the gloomy faces of the people speaks about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, where thousands of youths have been jailed and an atmosphere of fear has been created.
“I want to ask all political parties in the country to wake up as what happened to J&K (after 2019) is finally reaching their necks.
You preferred to remain silent or speak in a half-hearted manner but we will not remain silent and will fight not only for ourselves but for you as well,” Mehbooba said addressing a public meeting in the border district of Poonch.
The PDP leader, who is currently on a three-day tour of Pir Panjal region, said she was warning that BJP has turned J&K into a laboratory to experiment its policies before their implementation in other parts of the country.
“The opposition parties in the country did not understand what was happening to us. Today when the BJP is trampling democracy by jailing opposition leaders with the help of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI, they have started feeling the heat,” she later told reporters.
She said the abrogation of Article 370 was unconstitutional but majority of the leaders stayed silent. “I am of firm belief that we will get back Article 370 with interest. They will come and ask what else you want.”
Referring to the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on political leaders including her and two other former chief ministers, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba said J&K was turned into a jail and an atmosphere of fear was created to silence the people.

Mehbooba said they are not in favour of making India a “Hindu Rashtra” but their policies are aimed at making it a “BJP Rashtra” where everyone who aligns with them will be welcomed.
She also opposed the property tax and hiring of a previously black listed company by the J-K administration to fill vacancies in different government departments and said the youth are the worst sufferers of the policies of the administration.
The PDP chief said from Lt Governor to bureaucrats, everyone has been brought from outside and they (BJP) are claiming to install a chief minister from Jammu.
“Had they been serious, they would have installed a Lt Governor from Jammu or at least one of his advisors but they only believe in hoodwinking the public to get votes,” she said.
