Telangana: BJP planning to tax farmers’ income after driving them into crisis, says KTR

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries minister KT Rama Rao launched a scathing attack against the BJP-led Centre on Tuesday, accusing it of driving the country’s farming community into crisis and considering taxing farmers’ income.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to double the farmers’ income by 2022. But instead, when the income of farmers is shrinking, the BJP-led centre is preparing to levy income tax on them. How is this ok?” he asked.

The Minister made these remarks after laying the foundation for various development projects in the Narayanpet district, as well as inaugurating facilities worth Rs196 crore.

Reacting to the speculations that the BJP is planning to field PM Modi from the Mahabubnagar parliament seat in the upcoming general election in 2024, KTR asked why the people of Telangana should vote for him.

“Telangana had been pleading with the centre for eight years to resolve the Krishna river water-sharing dispute and to grant national status to the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PRLI) scheme, but they refused,” he said.

He also chastised the BJP state unit for failing to raise long-pending Telangana issues with the centre.

KTR demanded that the BJP state executive meeting in Mahabubnagar should pass resolutions demanding national status for PRLI and resolving the River Krishna water dispute.

BJP MP D Arvind slams Telangana govt for not aiding turmeric farmers

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind from Nizamabad on Monday criticised the Telangana government for not taking adequate measures to nullify the loss suffered by turmeric farmers due to excessive rain in the state.

Questioning the government, Arvind wrote a letter to the Center seeking either incentives or support to help the turmeric farmers, and wanted to know if the state government would send the proposals for sanctions in the next financial year.

Addressing the media the BJP MP said, despite their ability to sell turmeric at a rate of Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,500 per quintal, the farmers are facing huge losses. Arvind brought up the farmers in his constituency Nizamabad and asked for additional support.

“I am ready to ensure that the Centre releases funds provided the state government sends the proposals,” he said.

  • BJP only national party in India, says Nadda

BJP only national party in India, says Nadda

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: BJP President J.P. Nadda on Monday said that his party is the only national party left in India as all others, including the Congress and several regional outfits, have become “family parties”.

Addressing the BJP Rajasthan State Working Committee meeting here, he attacked the Congress over its Bharat Jodo Yatra, alleging that those who raised slogans against India are walking in it.

Nadda also said that in 2023, the BJP will form a government in Rajasthan with a three-fourth majority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congratulating the state leadership and their entire team for the successful organisation of Jan Aakrosh Yatra and Jan Aakrosh meetings, he said: “We have to maintain this mission and continuity of such campaigns.”

Nadda claimed that the condition of Rajasthan is the worst under the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government under which the graph of crime against women, and Dalits and cyber crime is rising rapidly, while the continuous increase in the prices of electricity, petrol and diesel left the common man of the state troubled.

He said that the BJP was “not just a political organisation but also a party working for social concerns with human aspect and the whole of India and the whole world saw the social face of the party during the Corona period as it served food, ration, water etc. to the needy across the country”.

“Along with politics, the social side of the BJP also came in front of the whole world through service. Our party is a party with ideas, we work with politics with mission, politics with ideology, service to the country, party and ideology are paramount for us.

“There is democracy in our party and we work for the strength of the cadre in a democratic way, BJP is the only national party, all other parties have become family parties, Congress is completely finished, and regional parties have also become family parties,” he claimed.

Attacking the Congress over its Bharat Jodo Yatra, Nadda alleged: “Congress doesn’t know whom they are uniting, or breaking, in the entire journey of Rahul Gandhi. The same people who shouted slogans against India and made conspiracies against India are walking besides him.”

He said that the Narendra Modi government gave 22 medical colleges to Rajasthan, while the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will spur development of all its districts, and through the Har Ghar Nal and Har Ghar Jal Abhiyan, it has ensured that pure drinking water is delivered to crores of households in the country, including Rajasthan.

Telangana BJP demands scrapping of controversial GO

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Leaders and activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Monday tried to lay siege to Telangana Chief Minister’s official residence Pragathi Bhavan in support of the demand of teachers to amend the Government Order 317 to enable spouses to work in the same district.

Police detained the protestors when they tried to advance towards Pragathi Bhavan and shifted them to Panjagutta police station.

A police constable was injured when he fell on the windscreen of the bus when he was allegedly pushed by the protestors who were detained and being shifted to the police station.

BJP minority morcha activists also tried to advance towards the Chief Minister’s official residence but were detained by police. The protestors were physically lifted and shifted to waiting police vehicles.

Government school teachers had on Sunday staged a protest at Pragathi Bhavan demanding the scrapping of or amendment to the GO, saying injustice was being done to them.

Meanwhile, BJP state President Bandi Sanjay Kumar has demanded that the GO be scrapped immediately. He said the BRS government has kept the problem pending for two years.

Sanjay alleged hundreds of teachers were suffering due to the lacunae in the GO. He said as transfers of spouses were stopped in 13 districts, this was causing severe hardships to teachers. He claimed that 34 teachers committed suicide due to the GO.

The BJP leader said if the government failed to scrap or amend the GO, teachers will be forced to go on strike.

Sanjay condemned the arrest of teachers who were staging protests along with their children. He urged the police not to use force against teachers and reminded them that they are also government employees.

The BJP leader said if the BRS failed to resolve the demand of teachers, the BJP would amend the GO and ensure justice to teachers after coming to power in the state.

The GO was issued on December 6, 2021 with a zonal system in allocation of jobs. The zonal system was introduced after Telangana was reorganised into 33 districts from 10 in 2016.

  • Thackeray-Ambedkar ‘unity’ rattles Maha politics; MVA lauds, BJP trashes

Thackeray-Ambedkar ‘unity’ rattles Maha politics; MVA lauds, BJP trashes

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Ending two months’ political suspense, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) entered into a brand-new ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ alliance here, coinciding with the 97th birth anniversary of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, on Monday.

Uddhav, 62, ex-Chief Minister and son of Balasaheb Thackeray, and Ambedkar, 68, the grandson of the Chief Architect of Indian Constitution Dr B. R. Ambedkar, jointly made the formal announcement of the new political tie-up intended to electrify the state political scenario, with plans to fight the upcoming BMC civic elections.

Addressing the media, Thackeray recalled how his grandfather, Keshav Sitaram, alias Prabodhankar Thackeray, and Ambedkar’s grandfather Dr B.R. Ambedkar were good friends and had followed the ideology of ‘Desh Pratham’ (Nation First).

“We are now coming together to safeguard the nation and raise the concerns of the masses. We will take decisions on the next political courses in due time,” said Thackeray.

Declaring that the BJP is trying to finish off political leadership with the help of central agencies like the ED, Ambedkar forecast that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will end soon”, and the ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ tie-up will work to save the Constitution and Democracy.

Thackeray claimed that the new partnership has been discussed beforehand with the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies comprising Congress-Nationalist Congress Party-Sena (UBT), while Ambedkar expressed the hope that the MVA would soon accept the VBA.

The duo – Thackeray, flanked by senior leaders like MPs Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant and ex-minister Subhash Desai, and Ambedkar, accompanied by state president Rekha Thakur and Mumbai chief Abul Hassan Khan – expressed confidence that the new force would prove beneficial in dethroning the Bharatiya Janata Party and would work in tandem with other political parties.

Confirming that Thackeray had discussed the partnership with Ambedkar, Congress state President Nana Patole welcomed the new ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ alliance saying it will help the Opposition parties’ ambitions of dislodging the BJP in the state and Centre.

NCP leader Anil Deshmukh also welcomed the Sena (UBT)-VBA tie-up saying all parties have a right to make their alliances.

Sena (UBT) Chief Spokesperson Raut pointed out that the ‘Shiv Shakti-Bhim Shakti’ experiment had been carried out in the past and “it was the desire of the late Balasaheb Thackeray that these two forces should unite in the state”.

Asked what will be the impact of the tie-up in the upcoming civic polls, Ambedkar said it will work with other MVA parties, “will succeed and emerge victorious”.

In his first reaction, Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena (BSS) leader and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his ‘good wishes’ to the new entity, while the ally and BJP’s leaders like Union Minister Narayan Rane and state President Chandrashekhar Bawankule trashed it saying it will make no difference to the party.

Criticising the tie-up, Rane asked ‘where is the Shiv Sena’ and ‘what has Ambedkar done for Dalits’, while Bawankule predicted that the alliance will not last long.

  • AAP accuses Delhi BJP leaders of amassing disproportionate assets

AAP accuses Delhi BJP leaders of amassing disproportionate assets

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday accused former Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta and its ex-national vice president Shyam Jaju of amassing properties worth crores disproportionate to their known sources of income when the former was the mayor of the erstwhile North Delhi civic body.

Gupta, however, termed the allegations “false and politically motivated”.

AAP leader Durgesh Pathak said the BJP should cancel the primary membership of Gupta and Jaju within two days, failing which the Aam Aadmi Party will take to the streets and gherao the BJP headquarters.

“The former state president and in-charge of the BJP got a company (promoted by their sons) registered on the address of the party office… They own 40 to 45 properties in Delhi and neighbouring areas. The Lokayukta has sent them three notices but they have not replied yet,” he alleged.

Demanding that both the BJP leaders reveal the source of their income within two days, Pathak said there should be a thorough investigation to ascertain if they had the backing of senior leadership of their party.

There should be a probe to find out if there is a link between the rise of the two leaders and the “downfall” of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, he said.

The AAP’s chief spokesperson and MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said the Lokayukta is conducting a probe into the allegation of disproportionate assets against Gupta.

“Despite the Lokayukta issuing notices multiple times, Adesh Gupta did not declare his source of income. The company promoted by the sons of Gupta and Jaju is under the scanner for allegedly using as it a vehicle to aid financial wrongdoings,” he claimed during a press conference.

Bhardwaj claimed that a complaint with the Lokayukta has claimed that Gupta got the company incorporated while he was the North Delhi MCD mayor and his earnings are disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

Delhi Lokayukta Justice H C Mishra (retired) issued notices to Adesh Gupta from August 2022 to January 2023 asking him to declare his assets and sources of income, but he has not provided any information to date, he claimed.

“The Lt Governor should write a letter to the Anti-Corruption Branch and CBI about how these properties were bought and sold. The centre should take up a detailed investigation of the case to prove whether it believes in the principle of anti-corruption or not,” he said.

Reacting to the allegations, Adesh Gupta said, “I will file a defamation case against Saurabh Bhardwaj. They have a history of making false allegations and then apologising to BJP leaders following defamation cases. Bhardwaj should also be prepared for this.

“I respect the Lokayukta and will share all the details. Every year, I share details of my assets with the government. I am a dedicated BJP worker and have been exposing corrupt acts of the AAP and they are targeting me and my family to suppress my voice,” he claimed.

  • MP BJP focuses its energies on 103 seats party lost in 2018

MP BJP focuses its energies on 103 seats party lost in 2018

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: The BJP has geared up for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh as the party has started preparations to bring the government, organisation and all the leaders to the ground level.

The main focus of the Bharatiya Janata Party this time is on the 103 assembly seats where MLAs belonging to Congress and other parties are there.

In the assembly elections held in the state in 2018, the BJP lagged behind the Congress and even lost power.

However, the party returned to power due to the defection of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and also won the bypolls, but the party is worried about the upcoming elections. This is the reason why all the big leaders are being made partners in the election campaign.

According to the information received from BJP sources, a meeting of the State Working Committee is going to be held in the coming days, in which ministers of the state government, MLAs, MPs, besides central ministers are being called. This meeting is very important for the upcoming polls as the road map for the elections can be finalized in this meeting.

If party sources are to be believed, the BJP is eyeing most of the 103 assembly seats which are held by Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party or independent candidates.

BJP has been engaged in ground preparation for a long time regarding how these seats can be won. Now all the big leaders of the party are sitting together trying to implement the feedback received from the grassroots level.

Party sources say that on the 127 seats in the state where the BJP has sitting MLAs, the displeasure of the general public can be reduced by changing the face of the candidate and by making other efforts

It won’t be very difficult to win the 103 seats where the opposition MLAs are there because resentment is there towards the MLAs of those areas and it is easy to cash in on that.

BJP has been continuously gathering ground feedback for more than a year and on the basis of this, the party has made up its mind to work on the upcoming strategy.

In the meeting of the National Working Committee held in Delhi recently, some instructions have been given to the prominent leaders of the state and to take these instructions to the lower level, a gathering of big leaders is going to be held in Bhopal in the coming days.

  • Siddaramaiah slams BJP for not banning SDPI ‘to divide votes’

Siddaramaiah slams BJP for not banning SDPI ‘to divide votes’

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre did not ban the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) with an intention to divide votes.

The Centre banned only the Popular Front of India (PFI) but spared its political wing SDPI to ensure that the votes get divided, Siddaramaiah, who is Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said while addressing the ‘Prajadhwani Yatra’ of the Congress in Udupi.

Siddaramaiah likened the PFI to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the SDPI to the BJP.

He also termed as baseless the allegations by the BJP that that the Congress government led by him had released PFI or SDPI activists involved in criminal activities or communal violence from jail.

Terming Congress the only secular party in the country, he stated that Nathuram Godse who killed Mahatma Gandhi was the first terrorist. Congress leaders Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were victims of terrorism, he added.

The Congress leader also alleged that the RSS and the BJP which promoted Hindutva did not believe in the Constitution. “None of the RSS or the present BJP leaders participated in the freedom struggle,” he said.

Siddaramaiah cautioned the youth in the coastal belt against falling prey to the communal designs of the BJP and the RSS.

He said that while Hindus believed in humanity, the supporters of Hindutva opposed it.

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is the founder of Hindutva. The BJP and the RSS revered Godse and Savarkar, he said.

  • Amit Shah to attend BJP farmers’ convention in Patna next month

Amit Shah to attend BJP farmers’ convention in Patna next month

    [ad_1]

Patna: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Patna to attend a farmers’ conclave organised by the Bihar BJP on February 22, the birth anniversary of Swami Sahajanand Saraswati who was an ascetic and a peasant leader, party leaders said here.

They also described Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as “anti-farmer”, referring to the violence on January 11 in Buxar where a peasants’ protest over compensation demand for acquired land for a thermal power project turned violent.

At a joint press conference, state BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Thakur said that Shah will attend the party’s farmers’ convention on February 22.

To a query, Jaiswal denied that Swami Sahajanand Saraswati’s birth anniversary was being celebrated as a strategy to consolidate the party’s upper caste support base.

“Swami Sahajanand Saraswati’s contributions have been acknowledged by historians around the world. Please do not view him through a narrow prism,” said Jaiswal.

The Swami, who was born in Uttar Pradesh in 1889, had set up an ashram at Bihta in Bihar where he got involved in peasant activism.

His social and political activities focused initially on Bihar, and gradually spread to the rest of India with the formation of the All India Kisan Sabha. He was an iconic figure for the influential Bhumihar community, largely seen as BJP supporters whom the RJD has of late been trying to win over.

“It is because of the lacklustre attitude of the state government, Saraswati is a less-known personality in Bihar. The state government must hand over the defunct Bihta Bazar Samiti and its land to the central government so that it can be developed into an advanced farmers’ facilitation centre to be named after Sahajanand Saraswati,” said Thakur.

On the Buxar incident, he claimed that beating up protesting farmers by security forces exposed the “inhuman, anti-farmer and anti-poor” face of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“Farmers were protesting for compensation for their land acquired for establishing a thermal power plant at Chausa. Several farmers suffered severe injuries following police lathi charge,” Thakur said.

When the CM recently visited Buxar during his Samadhan Yatra, he did not bother to meet the affected farmers, the BJP leader said.

Amid speculations that senior JD (U) leader and former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha may join the BJP, Jaiswal said, “All those leaders inclined towards the politics of development and nationalism are welcome to join our party. Besides, all those who fought against the jungle-raj in Bihar are welcome”.

  • Lingayat vote bank appears shaky for ruling BJP in north Karnataka

Lingayat vote bank appears shaky for ruling BJP in north Karnataka

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The north Karnataka region known for harmony and peaceful co-existence plays an important role in shaping the political scenario of the state.

Consisting of 13 districts, the voting pattern has seen a paradigm shift. The region, which was a Congress bastion, is now rallying behind the state’s ruling BJP.

The BJP wins a major chunk of seats from north Karnataka and Congress is struggling to return to its days of glory. The JD (S) has managed to show its existence. It appears, though, that cracks have developed in the Lingayat vote bank this time, giving an opportunity to the Congress.

Among the 224 Assembly seats, the region has more than 100. A major chunk of seats are won by the BJP.

After the elevation of Mallikarjun Kharge as the Congress President, the party is hoping to make a comeback.

Political analysts explain that Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and Kharge’s combination will make magic for the party in north Karnataka region.

The ruling BJP in the state draws its core strength from north Karnataka and garners a major chunk of seats from the region.

Lingayat votes, which play an important role in elections in the region, were garnered by the BJP under the leadership of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, a Lingayat strongman.

However, the ensured vote bank appears to be shaky this time.

A change of guard in the leadership, hostile posture of Lingayat seer Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji of Panchamasali sub sect, a war of words between senior BJP leaders of the region seems to affect the ruling BJP.

Gali Janardhana Reddy’s new party Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha is also likely to pose a challenge to both Congress and BJP.

Janardhana Reddy has stated that in spite of national parties not attaching any importance, his party would make an impact in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha is likely to disturb national parties in Kalyan Karnataka region comprising districts of Raichur, Koppal, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, Ballary and Vijanaynagara.

Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji has attacked Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai for failing to give reservation for Panchamasali sub sect under OBC quota. Vijayapura BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal stated that it is a failure on part of Bommai and he has disappointed the community.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries Murugesh Nirani had charged that the Lingayat seer is acting on the behalf of the Congress.

However, the agitation for reservation is being taken up for years and the issue is likely to hit the prospectus of BJP in the upcoming elections, say analysts.

The BJP has got a shot in the arm by approving DPR for Kalasa-Banduri project which will mitigate the drinking water problem in major districts of north Karnataka.

The Congress has also organised a massive rally for speedy implementation of the project.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts this month and laying the foundation stone and inauguration of more than Rs 10,000 crore for development works in the region is seen as an attempt to outreach to the people of North Karnataka.

The BJP is expecting a boost in 41 constituencies of the region.

Experts say that this time, it won’t be a cake walk for the saffron part in north Karnataka. However, the BJP camp is upbeat and confident that the Hindutva agenda will work for them.
