‘Kill Kharge plot’ launched by BJP, alleges Congress; presents audio clip

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Congress on Saturday alleged that a “sinister and “ugly plot” is being “hatched” by the Bharatiya Janata Party to “kill” its party President Mallikarjun Kharge and his family.

At a press conference in Bengaluru today the Congress played an audio clip, claiming that the BJP candidate from Chittapur Manikanth Rathod used derogatory language for Kharge and could be heard talking about eliminating him and his family.

“BJP leaders are now hatching a plot to murder Mallikarjun Kharge and his family members. This is now clear from the recording of BJP’s candidate from Chittapur who also happens to be the blue-eyed boy of PM Modi and chief minister Bommai,” Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said.

    MS Education Academy

“I know the prime minister will remain mute, and so will Karnataka police and the Election Commission of India. But people of Karnataka will not remain mute and will give a befitting reply” he said.

Pawan Khera was also present at the Congress briefing here today.

As per a Congress statement, “the brazen hatred of the BJP towards Kannadigas is manifesting itself into a ‘Murder Plot’ to kill Karnataka’s Son of the Soil, Kharge”.

It added: “The Prime Minister and the BJP leadership remain “mute” as “assassination plot” brews”.

Manikanth Rathod Rathod was arrested on November 13, 2022 for allegedly threatening Priyank Kharge, who is the Congress candidate in Chittapur, with murder and later, released on bail.

In a media conference then, he had openly expressed his readiness to shoot down Priyank Kharge.

“Intimidated by the all-round blessing of Kannadigas being showered on the Congress Party and facing a complete rout in the ensuing assembly elections, BJP and its leadership are now resorting to hatching a “murder plot” to kill AICC President, Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family. This is clear from the audio recording of BJP Candidate from Chittapur,Manikanta Rathod, who also happens to be the ‘blue eyed boy’ of PM Narendra Modi and PM Basavaraj Bommai,” read the Congress statement.

“On May 2, BJP MLA and General Secretary, Madan Dilawar wished “death” for Mallikarjun Kharge and said “Congress President is 80 years old; God can take him away any time”. Now BJP leaders are openly plotting the assassination of Mallikarjun Kharge, his wife and the entire family,” the Congress Party alleged in the statement.

As per the Congress statement, the frustration and desperation of the BJP and its leadership has now reached dangerous proportions.

“Instead of presenting a vision of development for Karnataka, the pathetic state of the BJP is that they coin one ugly polarising issue a day to somehow save their skins from answering for the 40 per cent Corruption. Even these abusive and divisive tactics of the BJP are sinking without a trace. Now, they are using assassination plots as their last weapon in their armoury,” alleged the Congress.

As per the Congress statement, “Of course, PM Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Police and the Election Commission will play “mute” on this sinister conspiracy to kill AICC President and his family”.

“The only befitting reply by 6.5 crore Kannadigas to this nefarious and sinister murder plot is to decimate this murderous thought process of the BJP in the ensuing state elections,” read the Congress statement.

Cong ups attack on BJP, shares ‘rate card of corruption in Karnataka’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: With just a few days to go for the May 10 assembly elections in Karnataka, the Congress on Friday targeted the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the issue of corruption, and also released a “rate card” of alleged corruption in the southern state.

The Congress first shared the rate card from the official Twitter handle of the party in a bid to scale up attacks on the issue of corruption.

In the post, the Congress alleged that the Karnataka Chief Minister’s post was up for grabs for Rs 2,500 crore and the rate of ministerial posts was Rs 500 crore.

    MS Education Academy

Sharing the post on Twitter, the party wrote, “Kannadigas! Here is the corruption rate card of the ‘TROUBLE ENGINE’ 40% Sarkara.”

The post also highlighted figures for “Appointment and Transfer Rates”, “Job Rates”, and alleged commission for government deals.

Following the party’s stand, even former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also shared the post and targeted the BJP, saying “trouble Engine BJP is in love with the number 40, people of Karnataka will give them 40 seats only”.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said: “BJP’s 40% Commission Sarkara’s ‘Rate Card’! ‘Trouble Engine’ BJP is in love with the number 40, people of Karnataka will give them 40 seats only!”

The Congress and Rahul Gandhi has been attacking the BJP over the alleged corruption in the BJP government in the state.

Last year, the Congress launched PayCM campaign in the state to highlight the alleged corruption.

The Congress has been campaigning aggressively in Karnataka and has cornered the BJP on issues of corruption and several other matters.

The Congress released its manifesto on Tuesday and also announced several promises for the people of the state.

The party also promised to repeal, within one year of coming to power, “all unjust laws and other anti-people laws” passed by the BJP government in the state.

To woo the voters in the state, Congress announced Gruha Jyothi (200 units of free electricity), Gruha Lakshmi – Rs 2,000 monthly to every woman head of the family, Anna Bhagya – 10 kg of food grains of their choice (among rice, ragi, jowar, millet) to every person in a BPL family.

The election for the 224-member assembly is scheduled on May 10 and counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Ashok Gehlot asks BJP: Aren’t we Hindus?

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday accused the BJP of linking the voting preference of people with Hinduism and asked whether those who don’t vote for the party are not Hindus.

“You (BJP) come up with one issue or the other to provoke people in the name of religion, caste. All are Hindus. Aren’t we Hindus? Where is it written that the one who votes for the BJP is a Hindu?” Gehlot asked.

Speaking at the inauguration of Haldighati Youth Festival at Nathdwara in Rajsamand district, Gehlot appealed to the youth to decide whether they want development or just issues that provoke people.

    MS Education Academy

“In a democracy, some vote for the BJP, some don’t. Some vote for the Congress, some don’t,” he said.

“Where did they get this definition that those who do not vote (for the BJP) are not Hindus? It is not in the interest of the country,” Gehlot said.

Alleging that a BJP government will stop the schemes run by the current government in Rajasthan, Gehlot said, “I would like to tell the youth, you decide whether you want development, whether you want a vision or (not).”

He also told the youth that “knowledge is power”.

He said Rajasthan today ranks first in the country in the IT sector.

Hyderabad: Bajrang dal, BJP activists recite Hanuman Chalisa at Cong office; detained

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) activists who were a part of Bajrang Dal gathered outside the Congress party office in the city on Friday and recited Hanuman Chalisa following which they were detained by the cops.

The crowd were protesting against the Congress’s manifesto mentioning the ban on Bajrang Dal, while they cried out the description, calling themselves devotees of lord Ram and Hanuman.

Shouting out loud, the activists lay on the road while police tried to stop them. The cops faced a tough time as they had to drag the activists into a DCM truck as they refused to move from their place.

    MS Education Academy

Additionally, lady constables also interfered to move the female activists who were among the protestors while their companions cried out, ‘Ram ki jai’.

    Congress members respond

Countering the BJP members and the Bajrang dal, the Telangana Congress Women wing members on Friday said that even they are devotees of lord Ram, asserting that Hanuman Chalisa can be recited by anyone and it doesn’t have to do anything with a particular party.

Stating that there is no significance in linking the Hanuman Chalisa, (one of the popular Hindu devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman) with the ban, one of the members of the Telangana Congress women’s wing read out the entire Chalisa while her fellow mates accompanied her.

Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest

The Karnataka Congress unit in its manifesto stated that it would ban the Bajrang Dal and compared the group to the PFI. The PFI was recently banned by the Union government for its alleged anti-national activities.

The Bajrang Dal announced a nationwide protest and protests are held across the country for the past couple of days.

On Wednesday, the Telangana Bajrang Dal activists held protests in all districts and the city. The Bajrang Dal workers stormed the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday.

The police took over 300 of the activists into custody and shifted them to various police stations. All of them were let off later.

Following the developments, the police pickets continued at the Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday as well.

Ban Bajrang Dal in Rajasthan and see its fallout: BJP dares Congress

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Attacking the Congress over its poll promise to ban Bajrang Dal in Karnataka, the BJP dared the party on Thursday to ban the right-wing outfit in Rajasthan, where it is in power, and see the fallout of its action.

The Congress in its manifesto for the May 10 elections in Karnataka said it is committed to take firm action against individuals and groups spreading hatred on grounds of caste and religion. It named Bajrang Dal and Popular Front of India, saying it will take “decisive action as per law including imposing a ban” on such outfits if voted to power.

“Sonia Gandhi says in Karnataka they will ban Bajrang Dal,” Rajasthan BJP president CP Joshi said at a Jan Aakrosh Mahasabha in Sawai Madhopur in an apparent reference to the Congress manifesto.

    MS Education Academy

“If Sonia Gandhi has the guts, then ban Bajrang Dal in Rajasthan. She will know the strength of Bajrang Dal, the devotees of Hanuman ji. If this is done, then not only Rajasthan but in the whole of India, Congress will be wiped out,” he added.

Joshi alleged the Congress encourages PFI-like terrorist organisations and bans Hindu festivals, according to a party statement.

In an unrelated matter, the state BJP president wrote to Governor Kalraj Mishra, complaining about a video against Prime Minister Narendra Modi played on TV screens at a relief camp organised at a Panchayat Samiti campus in Dausa.

A video displaying “Modi Hatao-Desh Bachao” was screened at the camp.

BJP workers objected to its screening and raised slogans against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Joshi also demanded that Gehlot take action against the administration officials and the Congress representatives responsible for the screening of the video.

In the letter, Joshi said the act by the officials “at the behest of the Gehlot government” is not only unethical but also a violation of the duties of a public servant.

He alleged an anti-BJP campaign is being run in the state in the name of relief camps.

“The common man is being misled by the Gehlot government in urban and rural areas in the name of inflation relief camps,” Joshi claimed.

  • Hyderabad: Row over ORR toll collection; BJP demands ‘no toll’

Hyderabad: Row over ORR toll collection; BJP demands ‘no toll’

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP leader Gudur Narayan Reddy on Wednesday demanded Telangana government cancel the toll collection right given to a private company on the Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) method for Rs 7380 crores for three decades reasoning that it would incur a loss to Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

In a media statement, he said that the decision of the state government was like killing the goose that lays golden eggs and smacks of a scam.

He alleged that the government has given toll collection right to a Mumbai-based company at less than half the price that could be earned in the coming three decades.

    MS Education Academy

Alleging that the whole process is a scam, the BJP leader said that the government has given the right collect to toll on ORR on Toll Operate and Transfer method to the private company at a rate of Rs 7380 crores for 30 years, whereas it is estimated that about Rs 17000 crores could be earned in 30 years.

“It means that the company would make a profit of more than Rs 10,000 crores in the next three decades,” said Gudur while adding that the government was supposed to give toll collection right only for two to four years and not 30 as in the case.

Stating that the BRS government which would be out of power in five months has usurped the rights of the next six governments, Reddy said, “It was nothing but an undemocratic and unjustifiable act of BRS.”

The BJP leader further said that at present the estimated revenue through toll collection on ORR was about Rs 540 crores per annum and will likely be reaching up to Rs 650 crores per annum by 2033 and that sums up the average revenue per each decade to Rs 5200 crores.

Pointing that the deal is a loss for HMDA, Reddy said, “The government has accepted the low price offered by the Mumbai-based company to secure the right, the revenue would be less than 2500 crores per decade.”

While recollecting that the BRS government had been criticizing the BJP government at the Centre for selling public sector companies, the BJP leader said that the former did not have any right to entrust the projects to private companies at a throwaway price.

Arvind Kumar sys ORR operation bid finalised as per norms

Explaining TOT, the special chief secretary of Telangana, Arvind Kumar said that the system for the toll collection on ORR is not to increase the toll but taken up as per the NHAI rules.

Addressing a press conference organised on Wednesday to clear out the glitch about awarding the TOT contract, Arvind Kumar said the toll policy of the Telangana government is based on the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, and toll collection on ORR will follow the same guidelines.

Defending the process of global tenders for awarding the contract for 30 years, Arvind said that the bids represented the Net Present Value (NPV) of the future cash revenue estimates.

NPV is arrived at after discounting inflation and overheads such as operation and maintenance expenditure, income tax, changes in working capital, interest on short-term loans and others.

“Rs 7380 crore today is not of the same value as Rs 7380 crore in 30 years,” asserted Arvind, adding that there will be a review every 10 years, to go over the actual revenue realisation and the agreement will be brought down if the traffic increases.

The TOT contract was awarded to IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited for the highest bid amount of Rs 7380 crore, among four competitors which included Adani Road Transport and present concessionaire Eagle Infra.

Given the Rs 542 crore toll collection on ORR for the year 2022-23, several questions were raised about the throwaway price for which the contract had been given, which Arvind Kumar sought to answer through the press conference.

Hyderabad civic body meet ends abruptly, BJP corporators stage protest

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi adjourned the 6th General Body meeting of GHMC on Wednesday, informed an official statement by the GHMC CPRO.

Water board officials walked out of the general body meeting first and later GHMC officials boycotted the general body meeting in support of HMWSSB officials.

The BJP corporators staged a protest at the council hall at the GHMC office in Tank Bund against the officials for disrespecting the mayor and Council members.

    MS Education Academy

Later police forcefully detained them and took them into custody.

The mayor said that it was inappropriate for some corporators to protest at the water board office yesterday.

After adjourning the GHMC council meeting, she held a press conference.

Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi said that the council meeting was held late as per the wishes of the members.

The statement read, on this occasion, the mayor lashed out at the opposition corporators.

She said that she spoke to all the party leaders to make the council meeting go smoothly. She further said that the corporators have been asked to cooperate in the context of holding the meeting after five months.

The mayor said that the council meeting was organized to resolve public issues and the BJP corporators deliberately protested.

“Some BJP corporators used unparliamentary words against officials,” the mayor added.

She said that they would not have behaved like this if they really wanted the meeting to be held.

The mayor said that it is not appropriate to pelt the silt in the chamber of the woman officer and managing director at the water board office yesterday. The mayor asked the BJP corporators to change their behaviour and cooperate for the smooth running of the meeting.

Speaking to ANI, BJP corporator Akula Srivani said, “BJP protesting against the recklessness of the state government. Due to recklessness, we have lost two lives. Two children died in two days after falling into the sewer. We are questioning the GHMC. Yesterday, we went to the HMWSSB office and gifted Dana Kishore a flower pot with silt as we are suffering due to drainage silt.”

Reacting to the mayor’s allegation that it is not appropriate to put the silt in the chamber of the woman, the BJP corporator said that it is a wrong allegation, if there is anything true in it then we are sorry and demand to provide the proof. We want complete materialistic work and the safety of the people. The revenue is increasing every year but even after many years, manholes and sewers are open. We are staging protests at the GHMC council and want the Mayor to come and answer our questions.

Another BJP corporator said that it’s shameful that a water body Official boycotted the council meeting.

The officials are taking salaries from the public tax and without hearing their grievances boycotting the council is disrespecting the mayor and Council members. So BJP corporators are staging a protest here at the council hall.

RSS, BJP leading campaign to defame Kerala: DYFI on ‘The Kerala story’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: All India president of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Rajya Sabha MP, AA Rahim, on Wednesday alleged that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are leading the campaign of defaming Kerala through the upcoming film ‘The Kerala Story’ which is against the secular face of the state.

While talking to ANI, AA Rahim said, “The movie Kerala story is a campaign against Kerala and its secular face. This campaign is led by RSS and BJP.

“Yesterday an organisation which has close links with right-wing groups screened the movie and it is a clear violation of many educational institutional rules. They got the full support from the authority as well. It is really sad to see an institute like JNU where such a movie is screened,” AA Rahim added.

    MS Education Academy

Condemning the upcoming release of the movie, he said, “Today we decided to send a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to enquire about the entire incident. Kerala is a state where BJP doesn’t have any base, but they are trying to make inroads by spreading communal agenda. This film is against Kerala. I can say it is a hate campaign against the state. Kerala is a model state. You cannot say it’s a violation of freedom of speech and expression because it is trying to spread communal ideas and hatred towards the Muslim community and also has many factual errors.”

Meanwhile, Kerala General Secretary of Muslim Youth League, PK Firos on Wednesday said that the film ‘The Kerala Story’ should not be screened as it is “insulting to Muslims, Kerala and girls.”

“This film should not be screened. This movie is about the hatred of others towards a particular religion or community. You can be critical and sarcastic. But don’t be a hater. It is insulting to Muslims, Kerala and girls”, Firos said.

Firos further said, “Our intention is to expose the hypocrisy of the film. We have now partially succeeded in that. Because earlier the makers of the movie claimed that 32000 girls from Kerala were converted. Now they have revised it and made it a story of three girls. People of Kerala, India and around the world are convinced this is fake propaganda. They had to turn away from insulting Kerala.”

Firos alleged that the film would create a communal divide within religious groups and inciting hatred and fear in a section is an offence under the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain pleas seeking a stay on the release of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ in theatres and OTT platforms and allowed the petitioners to approach the Kerala High Court.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha said a similar plea is pending before the Kerala High Court and asked them to move the High Court with their pleas.

The High Court is scheduled to hear the case against the film on May 5.

Advocate Vrinda Grover mentioned the petition before the bench seeking urgent listing tomorrow saying the film is getting released on May 5.

The petition mentioned by Grover sought a modification in the disclaimer of the film to state that it is wholly fictional.

The bench, however, asked them to approach the High Court where a similar petition is pending.

‘The Kerala Story’ has become a topic for discussion around the numbers being exaggerated in the trailer of the film.

Helmed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film is all set to hit the theatres on May 5, 2023.

‘The Kerala Story’ stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in the lead roles.

The trailer of Sen’s film ‘The Kerala Story’ came under fire as it claimed that 32,000 girls from the state went missing and later joined the terrorist group, ISIS.

  • Manifestos of Congress, BJP add zest to Karnataka Assembly election campaigning

Manifestos of Congress, BJP add zest to Karnataka Assembly election campaigning

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress manifestos have provided much zest to electioneering for the May 10 Karnataka assembly polls, which was initially thought to be a bland battle without much ado.

In the past two days, the two manifestos have taken centre stage and it is likely to spur the campaigning till the elections are over.

The documents providing a vision of the two national political parties for the next five years suddenly became the talk of the town like never before.

    MS Education Academy

While the BJP released its “nationalistic” manifesto with a Hindutva hue’ on May 1, the Congress made its “secular” manifesto public on May 2. The BJP has called its manifesto Praja Pranalike-2023′ (Citizens’ Manifesto-2023) and the Congress Paradise of peace to all’.

Amid the two giants, the JD(S) too brought out its Janata Pranalike’ (People’s Manifesto).

The ruling BJP has promised in its manifesto to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The party also promised to create a special wing in the state called Karnataka State Wing against Religious Fundamentalism and Terror (K-SWIFT).

The party said if it was voted to power, it would allocate Rs 1,500 crore to develop Kalyana Circuit, Banavasi Circuit, Parashurama Circuit, Kaveri Circuit and Ganagapura Corridor to transform Karnataka into India’s most favoured tourist destination.

The BJP manifesto revolves around Six A’s, namely Anna (food security), Akshara (quality education), Arogya (affordable health), Aadaya (assured income), Abhaya (social justice for all) and Abhivruddhi (development).

Free cooking gas cylinders thrice a year for BPL families on Ugadi, Ganesha Chaturthi and Deepavali festivals and ‘Atal’ food centres to provide affordable and healthy food are other lucrative offers.

The BJP has also promised to launch the ‘Poshane’ scheme through which every BPL household will be provided with a half litre of Nandini milk every day and five kg ‘Shri Anna – siri dhaanya’ (millets) through monthly ration kits.

The ‘Sarvarigu Suru Yojane’ is a scheme under which the Revenue Department will identify and distribute 10 lakh housing sites across the state to the homeless beneficiaries, if the BJP is voted to power.

The Congress was doing well with its five guarantees and the proposed pro-people policies but it stirred up a hornet’s nest by saying in its manifesto that it would ban organisations like the Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India that spread hatred.

The Congress said it was committed to taking firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred amongst communities on the grounds of caste and religion.
“We believe that the law and Constitution is sacrosanct and cannot be violated by individuals and organisations like Bajrang Dal, PFI or others promoting enmity or hatred, whether among majority or minority communities. We will take decisive action as per law including imposing a ban on such organisations,” the party said in its manifesto.

Since most Bajrang Dal activists are also the cadres of the BJP, the Congress eventually drew the ire of the saffron party in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular, who got ammunition to target his rival party.

“The Congress in its manifesto has decided to lock up Lord Hanuman. Initially, they locked up Prabhu Shri Ram (Lord Ram). And now they want to lock up people who say Jai Bajrangbali’.”

The BJP has been projecting Congress as an anti-Hindu’ party. The Prime Minister claimed it was an attempt to lock up Bajrangbali’ and his devotees after “locking up” Lord Rama in Ayodhya till the late 1980s when the door of the temple was opened. He even made a point to chant Jai Bajrangbali’ at the beginning and end of his speech to convey the message that his party stood with the Bajrang Dal.

The possibility of banning the Bajrang Dal eclipsed the promising guarantees of Congress, which are ‘Gruha Jyothi’, ‘Gruha Lakshmi’, ‘Anna Bhagya’, ‘Yuva Nidhi’ and ‘Shakti’.

Gruha Jyothi promises 200 units of free electricity a month to all households. Under ‘Anna Bhagya’, every person in a BPL (below poverty line) family will receive 10 kg food grains, which can be rice or millets including ragi and jowar every month.

Under the ‘Yuva Nidhi’ scheme, Rs 3,000 per month will be provided to all unemployed graduates and Rs 1,500 a month for all unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18 to 25) for two years.

While the ‘Shakti’ scheme proposes free travel for women throughout the state in regular government-run KSRTC/ BMTC buses, under the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme, each woman head of a family will receive Rs 2,000 monthly assistance.

The party also promised to enact a ‘Karnataka Whistleblowers Protection Act’ if voted to power.

The Congress said it would demand Karnataka’s rightful share from the Centre in total taxes collected, and fight against the efforts to “dilute the Constitutional rights in the federal system”.

The party said it would reject the National Education Policy and formulate a State Education Policy.

The Janata Dal (Secular) on its part has promised to restore the four per cent reservation given to the Muslims under 2B category of Other Backward Castes, which the BJP government scrapped at the fag end of its tenure, recently.

Also, the party led by former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has promised to provide an assistance of Rs two lakh to women who marry youths that are engaged in farming as their occupation.

It has vowed to “throw out” Amul and save Karnataka’s Nandini dairy brand, calling it Kannadiga’s identity, among various assurances.

The party has also assured that it would bring in a law reserving jobs for Kannadigas in the private sector, and to provide free higher education for economically-weaker students.
