New Delhi: A BJP member of the Lok Sabha demanded on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi be conferred the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award.

Participating in a discussion on the Union Budget for 2023-24, G S Damor, the MP from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh, said Prime Minister Modi is working for all sections of society, including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

“The prime minister should be given Bharat Ratna,” he said.

Forty-eight persons have been conferred the Bharat Ratna so far.

Participating in the discussion, Congress member G S Aujla said unemployment among the youth is increasing in the country and the government should take steps to check it.

He said the opposition members do not abuse the prime minister, but only criticise him.

“You have to listen to the criticism…you are the prime minister of the country, nobody can abuse you in this country,” Aujla said.

S I Jaleel of the AIMIM alleged that the government has slashed the budgetary allocations for minorities.

He also said the increase in lending rates by the RBI has put burden on the salaried people.

More you throw mud at BJP, the more lotus will bloom: PM Modi to Oppn

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Speaking on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the opposition and said the more it targets the BJP, the more the lotus will bloom.

“I want to tell these MPs (Opposition MPs)…that the more you throw ‘keechad (mud)’, the better the lotus will bloom,” said PM Modi.

PM Modi said that in the last three to four years around 11 crore houses got potable drinking tap water connections and 48 crore Jan Dhan accounts were opened across the country in nine years.

Even as the PM was speaking, the opposition MPs raised slogans against Adani and the Prime Minister.

On Wednesday, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition, attacked the Central government over the demand for a probe by the joint parliamentary committee in the Adani case.

Kharge said, “There should be a joint parliamentary committee probe in the Adani row… when the government is not afraid of anything then constitute a JPC.”

  • Kejriwal govt set up Feedback Unit to keep an eye on political opponents: Delhi BJP

Kejriwal govt set up Feedback Unit to keep an eye on political opponents: Delhi BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The working President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, said on Wednesday that the Arvind Kejriwal government since its inception in 2015 has been hostile towards political opponents whom it wants to suppress.

Addresssing a press conference here, Sachdeva said that for this purpose, on February 1, 2016, the Kejriwal government had established a Feedback Unit (FBU) to keep an eye on not only political opponents, but Union ministers, MPs, L-G office, media houses, leading businessmen and also on judges.

Sachdeva claimed that to carry out its anarchic practices, the Kejriwal government set up the FBU without any administrative or financial approval only, but only on the basis of the approval of his own Cabinet. The unit was headed by a retired CISF DIG, he said.

This FBU was provided with an establishment fund of Rs one crore and it was given the name of ‘Secret Service Fund’ which in itself raises the question as to whom did Kejriwal want to investigate for which a secret fund was created, Sachdeva claimed.

Funds worth crores of rupees were given from this fund to private investigating agencies, as well as to set up a network of informers, he said.

From the very beginning, the Vigilance Department had objected to this. In September 2016, when Ashwani Kumar became the Director of Vigilance, he had directly asked FBU for an account of the work done, which it failed to submit, Sachdeva claimed.

When the Delhi government had sent the FBU file to then Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, the latter had not only rejected it, but also objected to the creation of such a new unit by bypassing the Vigilance Department, Sachdeva said.

Sachdeva also said that the people of Delhi demand a reply from the Kejriwal government on the formation of the FBU.

“We want to ask some questions regarding the establishment of FBU for which Kejriwal government is responsible. In spite of the existence of the ACB and the Vigilance Department, why did the Kejriwal government establish the FBU with a retired official as its head?

“What was the purpose behind the establishment of FBU, and if the purpose was clear, why didn’t the government announce it at the time of establishment? According to us, the objective was to keep an eye on political opponents as it is clear from the CBI report that 60 per cent of its reports were only on political opponents. The CBI investigation has revealed that FBU submitted about 700 reports to the Kejriwal government,” Sachdeva said.

BJP against ‘caste census’, does not want to give rights to backward classes: SP

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: The BJP is against a “caste census” because it does not want to give backward classes and Dalits their rights, the Samajwadi Party claimed on Wednesday, asserting that correct data is necessary to ensure they get their due respect and honour.

It is necessary to know the correct statistics of the backward castes in the state and the country, state unit president of the Samajwadi Backward Class Cell Dr Rajpal Kashyap said at a seminar in Hardoi.

“The BJP government is against caste census. It does not want to give rights and respect to backward castes and Dalits. The BJP is afraid of caste census,” he said.

Stressing that Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has been demanding a caste census for a long time, Kashyap said his party had also included it in its manifesto for the assembly elections.

The Samajwadi Party believes that a caste census will give the accurate information about the number of deprived and backward castes, and it will be easier to make plans for them, he said.

Kashyap said the backward classes cell of the SP will organise a seminar on the topic at the block level in all the assembly constituencies in the state.

  • AAP, BJP face off after CBI report claims Delhi govt’s feedback unit collected ‘political intelligence’

AAP, BJP face off after CBI report claims Delhi govt’s feedback unit collected ‘political intelligence’

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: A row erupted on Wednesday over a CBI report claiming political intelligence gathering by the Feedback Unit (FBU) formed by the AAP after coming to power in Delhi in 2015, with the BJP demanding registration of case against Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Hitting back, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said the BJP’s allegation that Sisodia was involved in “political snooping” is “completely false”.

The Kejriwal government claimed in a statement that these all cases are “politically motivated”. “The CBI and ED should rather investigate the dubious relationship between Modi and Adani where the real corruption happened,” it alleged.

The CBI in its preliminary inquiry report found that the FBU formed through a Delhi cabinet decision on September 29, 2015 indulged in gathering political intelligence.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that the AAP since its inception has been working with hostility towards its political opponents.

“The Kejriwal government formed FBU to keep an eye on not only its political opponents but Union Ministers, MPs, LG Office, media houses, leading businessmen and also the judges,” Sachdeva charged in a press conference.

The CBI in its report submitted to Vigilance department sought approval of the LG who is competent authority in the matter, to register a case against Deputy CM Manish Sisodia who played an “active role” in creation of the FBU.

The central agency also sought permission of the LG for registering cases against others involved in functioning of the FBU.

Sources said LG VK Saxena has referred the CBI request to the President through the Ministry of Home Affairs, for registration of a case against Sisodia.

The LG has also sent the CBI recommendation to Home ministry, regarding registration of cases against then FBU joint director, RK Sinha, and FBU officers Pradeep Kumar Punj and Satish Khetrapa. Approval for the prosecution against then Vigilance director, Sukesh Kumar Jain, an IRS officer, will come from the Finance ministry, they said.

The approval has, however, been given by the LG for registration of a case against Delhi Chief Minister’s advisor Gopal Mohan, the sources said.

The AAP in a statement said “the whole country knows political spying is done by Modi not Manish Sisodia. An FIR should be registered against Modi not Manish Sisodia,” the party said in its statement.

The CBI report said that the FBU was tasked to gather actionable feedback regarding working of various departments of Delhi government and also to do “trap cases”.

The FBU started functioning from February 2016 and a fund of Rs 1 crore was kept for it under “secret service expenditure”. A rough analysis of nature of reports generated by the unit revealed that while 60 per cent of it was related to vigilance matters, political intelligence and other issues accounted for around 40 per cent, the report said.

“Scrutiny of such reports during the period from February 2016 to early September 2016 shows that a substantial number of reports submitted by FBU officials were not actionable feedback on corruption in any department, but related to political activities of persons, political entities and political issues touching political interest of the Aam Admi Party,” the report said.

“The feedback unit was not functioning in the manner and for the purpose approved by the cabinet but was working for some other hidden purposes which were not in the interest of the GNCTD but private interest of Aam Admi Party and Manish Sisodia, the Dy CM, who played an active role in its creation of Feedback flouting established rules of GNCTD and MHA.” charged the CBI report.

It also alleged that the “unlawful” manner of creation and working of the FBU caused loss of to the government exchequer to the tune of around Rs 36 lakh.

BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri charged that the AAP government formed the FBU by misusing public fund and indulging in a “scam”.

He demanded registration of FIR against Kejriwal and Sisodia charging they had “malafide intention” behind creation of the feedback unit.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government termed “all allegations” as “completely bogus”.

“Till now, the CBI, ED and Delhi Police have registered so many cases against us. About 163 cases have been registered against us. However, the BJP has not been able to prove even a single case. About 134 of these cases have been dismissed by the courts and in the rest of the cases also, the BJP government has not been able to provide any evidence,” it said in the statement.

Odisha minister murder: BJP questions ‘court-monitored’ probe

    [ad_1]

Bhubaneswar: Continuing its attack on the Odisha government over murder of minister Naba Das, the BJP on Tuesday raised questions on appointment of a retired judge to monitor the Crime Branch probe into the case.

Addressing a press conference here, Odisha BJP spokesperson Pitambar Acharya said: “The BJD leaders are claiming that it is a court-monitored investigation, which is totally false. The Orissa High Court has not issued any judicial order for monitoring of the crime branch probe by a retired judge (J.P. Das).”

Acharya urged the state government to produce the request letter it had sent to Orissa High Court for the appointment of a judge/retired judge to monitor the probe and the Orissa HC order on the appointment of Justice Das.

“Which order/writ petition or judicial proceedings has allowed appointment of a retired judge to supervise the probe?” asked Acharya, who is also a senior advocate.

The appointment of Justice Das is neither a judicial proceeding nor a consultation under the Commission of Inquiry Act, he claimed and urged the state government not to misuse the name of the High Court and uphold its dignity as people have faith in the constitutional institute.

Claiming that the appointment of retired High Court judge, Justice Das is illegal, he demanded that the case should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for proper investigation.

As the state government and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik do not have faith in the Crime Branch investigation, they have reportedly requested the Orissa High Court to monitor the investigation, the BJP leader alleged.

Reacting to the allegation of BJP, senior BJD leader and government chief whip in Assembly Prasanta Muduli said: “The opposition has a habit of making comments on every issue. The Crime Branch is investigating the matter under the supervision of the judiciary. The society and democracy will not survive if they don’t have faith in the judiciary.”

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch recreated the crime scene by taking the accused police ASI (now dismissed) to the spot in the presence of a forensic expert. Justice Das and Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal have reached Jharsuguda to look into the status of the Crime Branch’s investigation into the sensational murder case.

BJP demands Delhi govt pay salaries to temple priests too

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP organised a protest outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against the city’s government’s “continuous discrimination” against temple priests.

More than 5,000 seers and priests from different areas of Delhi shouted slogans demanding the Kejriwal government pay them a monthly salary like for imams of mosques.

State BJP Working President Virendra Sachdeva, Leader of Opposition Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, MPs Manoj Tiwari and Ramesh Bidhuri and former Mayor Jaiprakash addressed the protest organised by the BJP Temple Cell.

Leader of Opposition Ramveer Singh Bidhuri said if imams of the mosques are being given a salary, then why not the priests of temples.

Tiwari claimed that the Hindu society is most tolerant, but when its tolerance ends, a war like the one in Mahabharata occurs. “Today, Kejriwal is behaving like Duryodhan with the priests of the temples of Delhi, which will not be tolerated,” he said, adding the BJP is determined that the priests should also get all the arrangements or facilities which other communities are getting.

BJP leader Sunil Jakhar, Cong MP Manish Tewari engage in war of words on Twitter

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: BJP leader Sunil Jakhar and Congress MP Manish Tewari on Monday engaged in a war of words after the former used an article written by Tewari on the Adani issue to term the grand old party a “divided house”.

Amid the ongoing Adani-Hindenburg row, Jakhar took a dig at Tewari and the Congress, which has showcaused its Patiala MP Preneet Kaur for alleged anti-party activities, saying if another notice was in the offing.

Tewari, the Anandpur Sahib MP, hit back alleging Jakhar “never tries to understand anything holistically and thus tilts at windmills”.

“Congress-a house divided ! While it blames Govt of collusion, its own Punjab MP, in an article, sees Hindenburg report as a geo-political conspiracy to sabotage India’s growing strategic prowess. Another show cause notice in offing, after one issued to Mrs Parneet Kaur?” tweeted Jakhar, a member of BJP’s national executive.

The Congress suspended Preneet Kaur on February 3 and had also asked her to explain why she should not be expelled for anti-party activities.

Kaur, the four-time MP from Patiala, is the wife of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, who joined the BJP after being ousted from the Congress.

Reacting to Jakhar, Tewari said, “Difficulty with my friend @sunilkjakhar is-he never tries to read/understand anything holistically & thus tilts at windmills In my article in @IndianExpress I have explicitly laid out Case for a JPC. He perhaps never served on one. A JPC looks at all aspects fairly.”

Jakhar replied to Tewari’s comment and said his tweet was aimed at the Congress.

“Sh. @ManishTewari is right that I haven’t grasped the meaning of his word-play. It’s because I’m not a Janus faced person with abilities of doublespeak. Anyway my tweet was aimed at INC. My erudite friend getting riled up shows a Freudian slip – if not a tilt,” tweeted Jakhar, who joined the BJP after quitting the Congress last year.

Tewari respond to Jakhar, saying, “Simple concepts like equity, fair play & impartiality when recommending a JPC probe are perhaps beyond feudal comprehension of my friend @sunilkjakhar not to talk of complex realities of financial markets & geo politics. Rest of his diatribe does not deserve dignity of a response.”

  • BJP has turned J-K into Afghanistan: Mehbooba Mufti on anti-encroachment drive

BJP has turned J-K into Afghanistan: Mehbooba Mufti on anti-encroachment drive

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday slammed the anti-encroachment drive, and hit out at the BJP and Jammu and Kashmir administration, accusing them of turning the union territory into Afghanistan by following a “bulldozer policy”.

She said the BJP’s initial call for ‘Ek Samvidhan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan’ has given way to ‘one country, one language, one religion’, “where there is no Constitution”.

Addressing a press conference here, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief appealed to Opposition leaders in the country not to be a mute spectator to the “atrocities being committed by the BJP”.

“Parties including the Congress, Left, DMK, TMC, Samajwadi Party and others should raise their voices and not remain silent to the atrocities on common people in Jammu and Kashmir,” she said.

When asked about the assurance of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that houses of poor will not be touched during the drive, Mehbooba said it is an attempt to create a discord between the rich and poor.

The fact is that small houses with tin shed are also being demolished which makes it clear that his message is not being heard on the ground, she claimed.

The People’s Democratic Party Chief alleged the BJP is using its brute majority to weaponize everything and “bulldoze” the Constitution.

“Palestine is still better. At least people talk. Kashmir is becoming worse than Afghanistan the way bulldozers are being used to demolish homes of people. What is the purpose of demolishing small houses of people. Is there a bulldozer policy,” she said.

“The brunt is borne by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Whatever is happening since 2019 is an onslaught on our identity, on our economy, on our jobs, on our lands,” Mehbooba said.

The former chief minister said the BJP is bulldozing everything including the Constitution. She said it scrapped Article 370 saying it will integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.

“I don’t know about the integration but the destruction is massive. All the institutions including the media have been weaponised. They also want to subjugate the judiciary,” she said.

Mehbooba added she would not say much on the judiciary to avoid a contempt case.

Ruling party members and ministers are free to say anything e.g. Kiren Rijiju who keep speaking against the judiciary and gets away with it, she said

“The laws brought in after Article 370 removal have been weaponised to an extent that when you visit Jammu and Kashmir, it will resemble Afghanistan because the bulldozer is there. After 370 they destroyed our identity, outsourced our jobs, our land, our minerals, our resources. When I said outsourced it means given to outsiders,” she said.

She said all that was left with us is a roof on our heads because Jammu and Kashmir was the only state where people did not sleep on roads.

“The BJP thought that since they cannot bring the entire country to the standards of Jammu and Kashmir so they will bring Jammu and Kashmir to the level of the rest of the country…,” she said.

People taken out of poverty again slipped down the Below Poverty Line after the BJP come to power, and the party wants to replicate it in Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba said that according to the government even the centuries-old Shankaracharya Temple and cantonment built by the erstwhile Maharaja are also on encroached land.

“The latest onslaught is our homes, our lives, our livelihood because houses and shops are being demolished in the name of so-called anti-encroachment drive. This too has been weaponised now.

Till now, the Enforcement Directorate and National Investigation Agency were used against journalists, human rights activists, politicians in the country, but Jammu and Kashmir has a special status where officers have their own units and have competition who can catch and harass more people, she alleged.

“What is happening in Jammu and Kashmir is extreme. Afghanistan which was not the USA’s own territory they bombed in one go but in our state destruction takes place everyday. I don’t think any state would have seen so many bulldozers which are now being moved in Jammu and Kashmir…Irony is crooks, fraudsters, scamsters, conmen have been given 45,000 square meter while land of common people are being snatched,” she said.

Voice of anyone speaking about the Constitution is being crushed, she said.

“Was removal of Article 370 in accordance with the Constitutional provisions?” she asked.
