Row over BJP leader entering Karnataka temples after having non-veg food

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Controversy has erupted in Karnataka after BJP MLA and party’s national General Secretary C.T. Ravi allegedly entered temples after having non-vegetarian food.

The photos of Ravi eating non-vegetarian food at the residence of BJP MLA Sunil Naik in Uttara Kannada district have gone viral on social media. He had come to Karwar to participate in Shivaji Jayanthi.

It is alleged that Ravi had visited Nag Ban in Bhatkal city and Karibanta Hanuman temple. Bhatkal MLA Naik and committee members of the temples accompanied him.

Ravi is being accused of having violated the sanctity of the temples by visiting them after having non-vegetarian food. Local Congress leaders also targeted him over the issue.

The BJP had made the incident of Congress leader Siddaramaiah entering a temple after having non-vegetarian food during 2018 elections into a major issue, claiming that he did not have any sensitivity towards traditions.

About the present controversy, Ravi has stated on Wednesday that he has been brought up by a traditional Hindu family. “Unlike Siddaramaiah, I won’t dare to say that I will enter a temple after eating non-vegetarian food. I am not going to be the victim of the toolkit politics of Congress,” he maintained.

  • Centre to spend Rs 44,950 crore in Bihar under Bharatmala road project: BJP leader

Centre to spend Rs 44,950 crore in Bihar under Bharatmala road project: BJP leader

    [ad_1]

Patna: Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said the Centre will spend Rs 44,950 crore in 2023-24 in Bihar under Bharatmala, a centrally funded project which aims to build a network of roads, highways and expressways across India.

Prasad, a former union minister, told a press conference that the Centre has also allocated huge funds for the development of roads and highways in Bihar, besides Bharatmala.

The Bharatmala project will connect over 550 districts headquarters of India through six-lane highways. In addition to the development of the highways and roads, a key objective of the project is to improve freight efficiency through highways.

“Besides, the National Highways Authority of India’s ambitious six-lane Greenfield Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata expressway will pass through Kaimur, Rohtash, Aurangabad and Gaya districts of Bihar. Of the 610-km-long Varanasi-Kolkata corridor, 162 km will be in Bihar,” Prasad said.

The central government has also decided to construct a Rs 1,000 crore 15-km-long elevated road from Anisabad to Gurudwara Mode on NH-30 in Patna, he said.

“Currently 13 bridges are being constructed in several districts in Bihar and the central government has allocated Rs 23,175 crore for these works. Besides, works for the development of the first multi-modal logistic park on 100 acres of land at Fatuha (in Patna) are already on. The Centre has also made provisions for Rs 1,000 crore for the project,” Prasad said.

The government has also sanctioned funds for several other sectors, including agriculture, tourism, fisheries, science and technology and rural development, the BJP leader said.

He described the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as all-inclusive and far-sighted.

  • BBC cannot hide ‘economic offences’ under garb of freedom of expression: BJP

BBC cannot hide ‘economic offences’ under garb of freedom of expression: BJP

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The BJP said on Wednesday the BBC or any other organisation cannot hide their “economic offences” under the garb of freedom of expression.

The British broadcaster is under the Income-Tax department probe for alleged tax avoidance by underreporting income and these are serious offences, BJP’s information technology department head Amit Malviya said.

The BBC has to abide by Indian laws to operate in the country, he said.

The BJP reaction came following the British government’s strong defence of the BBC and its editorial freedom in Parliament after the Income Tax department’s survey operations on the media corporation’s New Delhi and Mumbai offices last week.

The BBC has said it is fully cooperating with the investigation and hopes to have the situation resolved as soon as possible.

Malviya claimed that the international broadcaster has a chequered past and accused it of trying to meddle in the internal affairs of democracies, including India.

He said that it once showed Russian tanks in Chechnya as Indian tanks in Kashmir to “suit its propaganda”.

Malviya said India is the “mother of democracy” and has a strong judicial system to ensure freedom of expression.

The I-T department had said in a statement following the survey that the income and profits disclosed by the organisation’s units were “not commensurate with the scale of operations in India”.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) junior minister responded to an urgent question raised in the House of Commons in London on Tuesday to say that the government cannot comment on the allegations made by the I-T department over an ongoing investigation but stressed that media freedom and freedom of speech are essential elements of robust democracies.

    [ad_1]

Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the mayoral election on Wednesday, just days after the Supreme Court ruled that nominated members would not be allowed to vote. Oberoi received 150 votes, compared to 116 for BJP candidate Rekha Gupta.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia congratulated Shelly Oberoi for winning the mayoral election and said ‘goons lost, public won’.

With the election of the new mayor, the office of the presiding officer has ended, and Oberoi will now preside over the rest of the polls, including those for the deputy mayor and six members of the powerful standing committee, in accordance with the top court’s Friday ruling.

Congress-led alliance will defeat BJP in 2024: Kharge

    [ad_1]

Dimapur: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said that his party along with other like-minded parties will come together to defeat the BJP in the next year’s general election while expressing confidence that his party will put up a good show in the upcoming February 27 Nagaland assembly polls.

Criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during an election rally at Diphupar Village Public School in Dimapur, the Congress chief said: “You are in a democracy, you should remember that… you are not an autocrat, you are not a dictator. You are elected by the people, and the people will teach you a lesson in 2024 (general elections).

Addressing the people of Nagaland, he said that they had been cheated by the BJP as the saffron party took advantage of the situation and overturned the government overnight. “… and the people of Nagaland were once again cheated,” Kharge said.

“The BJP formed the government by blackmailing the Chief Minister. Not only here but in 6-7 states they pressurised MLAs and toppled the governments there,” the veteran Congress leader from Karnataka said.

He further said the BJP was in talks with other like-minded parties to work on a strategy for the 2024 general elections.

Predicting the BJP will not attain a majority, Kharge said: “Congress will lead, and we will get the majority, we will follow the Constitution and we will follow democracy.”

The Congress president also alleged that the BJP talks of about the Constitution but its “acts are undemocratic”.

  • If BJP keeps bullying media, investors won’t come to India: Akhilesh

If BJP keeps bullying media, investors won’t come to India: Akhilesh

    [ad_1]

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said foreign investors will not come to India as the BJP government’s ‘bulldozer policy’ and the recent I-T “raids” at the BBC offices have dented the country’s image abroad.

Talking to reporters after attending an assembly session here, Yadav, referring to the recently concluded Investors Summit in Uttar Pradesh, said the ruling BJP was selling dreams to people.

The pictures of the authorities bulldozing the houses of poor people have been seen by the world. If the BJP raids an institution like the BBC and intimidates the media, do you expect people from around the world to invest in the country, Yadav said.

The BJP is just selling dreams to the people that investments worth Rs 40 lakh crore will come to Uttar Pradesh, he said while referring to the Investors Summit.

“Investors came and went after taking a round of the Investors Summit. The government will not tell you that no one stayed at the tent city built by spending thousands of crores of rupees for the investors to stay. You (media) find out how many investors stayed in them. All were empty,” Yadav claimed.

Bulldozers used for demolishing illegal buildings have been in hot discussion in the state, inviting the sobriquet of “bulldozer Baba” for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

A 45-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter died after they immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive in a village in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.

Referring to the death of Apna Dal-Sonelal’s MLA Rahul Prakash Kol due to cancer, the former chief minister said, “Today, so many people are dying due to cancer, but you (BJP) will not build a cancer institute, you will not build a hospital.”

“You (BJP) are the people of the government who want to build your own temple,” he said without elaborating which temple he was talking about.

On the presentation of the budget for 2023-24 in the state assembly on Wednesday, the SP president said, “Six budgets of this government have come so far. What did anyone get? No one got anything… the income of the farmers did not get doubled.”

“Unemployment and inflation are at their peak. The increase in the price of diesel and petrol has resulted in an increase in prices of vegetables and food items,” he claimed.

Describing the manhandling of mediapersons by security personnel during a protest by SP members in the Vidhan Bhavan premises on Monday as “unfortunate”, Yadav said action should be taken against the guilty.

BJP to protest against Congress after Pawan Khera mis-spells PM’s name

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: After senior Congress leader and party spokesperson Pawan Khera could not spell Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name, the BJP has termed it as a “insult to the Prime Minister and his father”.

The BJP has planned a protest on Tuesday at 10 Janpath.

Khera while addressing a press conference could not spell properly the PM’s name but later clarified that he got confused. But now a complaint has been filed in Lucknow and the BJP will protest against him.

Congress Media department chairman Pawan Khera said, “We also have governments in some states, some of the governments are going to be formed in states and the season is changing… 2024 is also approaching.”

“I want to give one suggestion to ED officers, who have become tools in the hands of the government, that time changes fast.”

Warning the officials and the BJP, Khera said, “We have governments in states… we can also do something, but our decency should be considered as ornaments not weakness.”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that party will not be cowed down by these tactics and the plenary will go on as per schedule.

Three days ahead of Congress plenary session in Raipur, the Enforcement Directorate on Monday was conducting raids at multiple locations across Chhattisgarh in connection with the coal mining case.

  • BJP leaders to beat themselves as a part of Muslim outreach programme

BJP leaders to beat themselves as a part of Muslim outreach programme

    [ad_1]

BJP to kickstart Muslim outreach programme across India next month. As a part of the programme, the Bhartiya Janta Party has identified key areas of improvement of sentiments about BJP among Muslims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the party to make an outreach to “deprived and downtrodden” sections in all communities. PM Modi also asked the party leader to perform activities that makes the community feel better.

Reportedly, in order to appease the minority community, the BJP leaders are going to beat themselves up. Speaking to The Fauxy, a BJP leader said “The community is very much against the party and they wish harm on the party leaders, hence, if we harm ourselves, the community people will be happy to see that“.

Another BJP leader said “If we beat ourselves they will feel that we are one of us as it is one of their essential religious practices“.

Sources suggest that the Modi led government is deliberately delaying the CAA and NRC process to appease the Muslim community ahead of 2024 General Elections.

TMC misleading backward castes in Bengal with fake assurances: BJP

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: Accusing the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal of misleading members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities with “fake assurances”, BJP leader Sudip Das on Monday asked them to be “cautious” about the ruling dispensation’s game plan in future.

Das, who led a rally of backward caste members of the BJP in Esplanade, said the TMC-controlled government is only interested in appeasing the minority community, overlooking the welfare of SC, ST and OBC members.

“When it comes to delivering on the promises made to backward caste community members, including Matuas, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee always fails. Members of Dalit and general category are overlooked when it comes to hiring them for state government jobs,” he alleged.

In sharp contrast to the “double-faced policy” of the TMC regime, the BJP government at the Centre has shown its commitment to backward caste and Dalits by nominating personalities like Ramnath Kovind and Droupadi Murmu for the post of President, Das, the BJP state SC Morcha chief, said.

“There are around 2.20 crore members of various backward communities in the state with several assembly seats reserved for them. If we all get together against the injustice meted out by the state government, the hypocrite anti-Dalit TMC can be defeated,” he stated.

Das also claimed that “majority of those killed in TMC terror after the 2021 assembly poll results belonged to the backward caste”.

The rally, attended by over 500 members of SC, ST and OBC members, was also addressed by BJP MLA Ambica Roy and several other leaders belonging to the morcha.

Making light of the allegation, TMC state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that his party gives little importance to what the BJP says.

“None should teach us ways to show respect to Matua community members. Our chairperson Mamata Banerjee has been a great admirer of Matua sect founder Harichand Thakur and ‘Baroma’ Binapani Devi.

“The TMC has always worked for the welfare of backward community members including Matuas,” he added.

BJP slams post showing Jagan feeding milk to child dressed as Lord Shiva

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: BJP’s Andhra Pradesh co-incharge Sunil Deodhar has criticised a Twitter post in which Andhra CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is seen feeding milk to a child dressed as Lord Shiva, calling it “highly insulting”.

The YSR Congress Party’s post on Saturday was shared on Twitter by Deodhar that read ‘#YSRCP_Insults_Mahadeva’.

“A CM who aggressively converts Hindus to Christianity is now openly insulting Hindus by posting such a cartoon,” a Twitter user posted on Sunday while sharing the YSR Congress’ illustration that was displayed on the occasion of Mahashivratri. That post was re-tweeted by Deodhar.

“A party run by liquor mafia and the Chief Minister who is out on bail does not have the moral right to preach Hindus whom they should feed on festivals,” the post on Twitter by the BJP National Secretary read.

Deodhar also shared a video of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minsiter doing ‘Abhishekam’ of Lord Shiva, saying: “What’s this video, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy? Political drama to woo Hindus for capturing power?”

Stating that animal worship is also a form of God worship, he asked Jagan Mohan Reddy as to why such tweets and ‘preachings’ are not made by him on Bakrid and Christmas.
