TN: BJP in soup as it loses 13 of its leaders to alliance partner AIADMK

    [ad_1]

Chennai: A total of 13 functionaries from Tamil Nadu’s BJP on Wednesday quit the party to join its alliance partner the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

The 13 belonged to the BJP’s IT wing in Chennai West.

The development comes as the State unit of the BJP accused the Edappadi Palaniswami-led AIADMK of allegedly “poaching” its leaders.

BJP IT Wing District president Anbarasan in a statement said, “I have worked for BJP for years. People know that I have never expected any position. Considering the unusual scenario in the party for the past few days I have decided to resign from the party.”

The statement bears the signatures of 10 IT Wing District Secretaries and two IT Wing District Deputy Secretaries.

Several BJP MLAs have resigned and joined AIADMK recently.

On Tuesday, BJP Intellectual Wing State Secretary Krishnan, IT wing State secretary Dileep Kannan, Trichy Rural District Vice President Vijay and State OBC Wing Secretary Ammu joined AIADMK after meeting with Edappadi K Palaniswami.

This came just days after the exit of BJP State IT Wing Chief Nirmal Kumar to AIADMK who quit the party levelling serious allegations against Annamalai.

Similarly, IT Wing State Secretary Krishnan also resigned from BJP blaming Annamalai. This has sparked a war of words on social media between supporters of AIADMK and the BJP.

BJP functionaries raised questions about how Edappadi Palaniswami can welcome them with a smile by being an alliance partner.

In one such Twitter post, BJP Sports and Skill Development State President Amar Prasad Reddy mentioned “AIADMK being an alliance partner shouldn’t have done this”.

Meanwhile, earlier Annamalai told ANI, “Some four BJP leaders have joined, it’s an unfortunate state in Tamil Nadu where Dravidian politicians who think that they run big parties want to poach from BJP and grow their party. That only shows BJP is growing”.

Reacting to Annamalai’s comments AIADMK IT Wing Secretary Singai Ramachandran retorted on Twitter, “Once BJP was getting votes lesser than NOTA. In the 2021 election, how BJP MLAs won the election is the answer for this (AIADMK – BJP faced the election as allies). AIADMK is the organization which won the election single-handedly. It is only a joke to say to develop AIADMK, BJP persons are needed”.

Even during the Erode East bypoll, there was a war of words between AIADMK and BJP with AIADMK passing comments saying the BJP doesn’t have a role in inter-party issues. Now once again it has become debatable.

Addressing a press conference in Jammu, AAP’s Jammu province vice-president Amit Kapoor said the same thing.  He said that on almost all the major issues of the people including property tax issue, bulldozer scheme, killings of minorities, rehabilitation and salary issues of Kashmiri Pandits and reserved category employees of Jammu, the UT administration is playing a game of hide and seek at the behest of the BJP.  Has been  Apart from this, the government is doing the same on the issue of various sections of striking employees, temporary employees and unemployed youth etc.

He said that the BJP is trying to mislead the public on all important issues just to fool the general public and maintain its influence among the people.  He said the reality is that the BJP-led central government is running the affairs of the UT through the LG administration and all important decisions are either taken in Delhi or in consultation with the central government.

Kavitha’s protest on women’s Bill attempt to divert attention: BJP MP

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: BJP MP Arvind Dharampuri has alleged that BRS leader K. Kavitha’s proposed ‘dharna’ on women’s reservation Bill is an attempt to divert people’s attention from her involvement in Delhi liquor policy scam.

The MP from Nizamabad on Wednesday targeted the Member of Telangana Legislative Council after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned her for questioning in the case.

Calling Kavitha’s proposed dharna in Delhi on women’s reservation Bill a farce, the BJP leader suggested her to convince her father and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to accommodate 33 per cent women in his cabinet.

“Aap chronology Samjiyea KCR govt. didn’t have a single woman in his cabinet from 2014-2018, for obvious reasons of Ms Kavitha’s hegemony in the party, who was an MP from Nizamabad then. After losing to BJP candidate in 2019 General Elections, subsequently becoming MLC in Nepotism quota & now evolving as a key conspirator in Delhi liquor scam, her sudden epiphany to fight for Women’s Reservation bill is just her futile attempt to divert people’s attention,” tweeted Arvind, who had defeated Kavitha in 2019 Lok Sabha election.

The BJP MP also slammed Kavitha for her statement issued earlier in the day after ED issued summons to her.

“Telangana never bowed down to anyone in the First or Recent Telangana movement, but now is bowing in shame before the Nation in the light of your involvement in Delhi liquor scam,” he wrote.

“Let me also remind the power mongers in Delhi that Telangana has never and will never bow before the oppressive anti people regime. We will fearlessly and fiercely fight for the rights of the people,” Kavitha had stated in her statement.

Arvind also reminded Kavitha that her community represents not more than one per cent of Telangana population but represents more than 22 per cent of the Telangana cabinet. “Kindly convince your father to accommodate 33% women in his cabinet to gain tiny sanctity to your farce agitation on Women Reservation Bill,” Arvind told the MLC.

  • Gujarat BJP MLA to move resolution in Assembly seeking action against BBC documentary

Gujarat BJP MLA to move resolution in Assembly seeking action against BBC documentary

    [ad_1]

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vipul Patel will on Friday move a resolution in the Assembly seeking “strong action” against the “concocted” findings shown in a BBC documentary, which he alleged “once again attempts to blame the then state government” for the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

The proposed resolution will likely say the BBC documentary was a “low-level attempt” to tarnish India’s global image.

“India is a democratic country and freedom of expression is at the core of its Constitution, but that does not mean that a news media can abuse such freedom,” according to the summary of the proposed resolution shared by the Assembly secretariat on Tuesday.

The two-part BBC documentary, titled “India: The Modi Question”, claimed it investigated certain aspects relating to the 2002 Gujarat riots when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief minister of the state.

“If someone behaves or acts like this (BBC), then he cannot be taken lightly. BBC is losing its credibility and seems to be working with some hidden agenda against India and the Indian government. Hence, this House requests the Central Government to take strict action against the mind-boggling findings shown in the BBC documentary,” said a note on the resolution to be moved by Patel.

“The controversial documentary again “attempts to blame the then-state government for the 2002 Godhra riots and subsequent communal riots in Gujarat,” said the note.

The BBC documentary misrepresents the events of 2002 and is a malicious and low-level attempt to tarnish India’s global image, it said.

Through the documentary, deliberate attempts have been made to tarnish the image and popularity of Prime Minister Modi with an agenda to affect India’s goal to be in a top place in the world, said the note.

This, despite the fact that the Nanavati-Shah inquiry commission concluded after a thorough investigation that the burning of the Sabarmati Express near Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002, was a premeditated conspiracy, and the riots that followed were spontaneous, it said.

The commission found no evidence that the state government or any religious organization or political party played any role in the riots, stated the note.

The Assembly, which is having its Budget session, will meet on Friday after a two-day break.

The BJP has 156 MLAs in the 182-member House.

  • BJP leaders using Pulwama widows to gain political mileage, says Rajasthan CM

BJP leaders using Pulwama widows to gain political mileage, says Rajasthan CM

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday targeted the BJP, saying some of its leaders were disrespecting the widows of martyrs and using them to gain political mileage.

This comes a day after relatives of three CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack reached Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s residence and demanded a meeting with the party high command, accusing the state government of not fulfilling promises made to them.

Without directly naming BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena, who has been sitting on a ‘dharna’ with the widows of the martyrs, Gehlot said in a statement, “Some BJP leaders are disrespecting the wives of the martyrs by using them to gain political mileage. This has never been the tradition of Rajasthan. I condemn it.”/

The widows’ demands include installing statues of the slain jawans, giving jobs to their relatives on compassionate grounds and construction of roads in their villages.

In his statement, Gehlot said the widow of Hemraj Meena, who was martyred in the attack, wants a third statue to be installed despite two others already put up at the Government College, Sangod, and a park in Vinod Kalan, his native village.
“Such a demand is not appropriate keeping in view other martyr families,” the chief minister said in the statement in Hindi.

The wife of Rohitash Lamba is seeking a job for her brother-in-law on compassionate grounds but if the job is given to him, then the family members or relatives of all widows of martyrs might start putting undue pressure on them.

“Should we create such a difficult situation in front of the wives of martyrs because the rules made at present have been made on the basis of past experiences. How can it be justified to deny the rights of the children of martyrs and give jobs to other relatives? What will happen to the children of martyrs when they become adults,” he asked.

Gehlot said during his first tenure as chief minister in 1999, the Rajasthan government released the Kargil package for dependents of martyrs and it has been made more effective by increasing it from time to time.

He said the Rajasthan government has made a provision that if the wife of a soldier is pregnant at the time of his martyrdom and does not want a job, it will be kept reserved for the child so that their future can be secured.

Help has been given to the Pulwama martyrs’ dependents as per the rules of this package, Gehlot said.

“Rajasthan is the land of heroes and thousands of soldiers from the state have sacrificed their lives for the motherland. The people and the government here respect the martyrs the most,” Gehlot added.

He said he shared his thoughts on the issue with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, a minister in the Gehlot government, met the martyrs’ widows protesting outside Pilot’s residence and said it is the government’s responsibility to respect them.

The pilot had on Monday written to Gehlot, demanding an inquiry into the alleged police misbehaviour with the widows.

He also requested him to sympathetically consider their demands.

  • BJP, Congress in war of words over Rahul’s remarks in UK

BJP, Congress in war of words over Rahul’s remarks in UK

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The political slugfest over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the UK intensified on Tuesday with the BJP accusing him of insulting India’s democracy from foreign land and the Congress hitting back, saying the ruling party is “rattled” whenever he speaks.

While former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Gandhi of seeking the intervention of Europe and the US in India, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged that the BJP leader was distorting, twisting and lying “with a straight face”.

Addressing a press conference, Prasad expressed his party’s disapproval of Gandhi “misusing the forum of British Parliament” to “insult” India by spreading “shameful” lies and unfounded claims, and said there needed to be a “proper rebuttal”.

He accused the Congress leader of seeking to shame India’s democracy, polity, Parliament, judicial system and strategic security from a foreign land with his speeches in Britain.

If people of India do not support him and he keeps losing elections, then he should not tell lies from a foreign country to vent out his frustration, Prasad said.

The BJP leader sought reactions from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge if he “feels” that he is an elected president of the party.

He and his predecessor Sonia Gandhi should make their stand clear on Rahul Gandhi’s “utterly irresponsible” statements and whether the opposition party supports them or not, Prasad said.

Hitting back at Prasad, Ramesh tweeted, “Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad is doing what he and his Supremo do best– distort, twist, defame and lie with a straight face.”

Tagging a media report on Prasad’s remarks, Congress’ media department head Pawan Khera said on Twitter, “There is nothing more amusing than watching an unemployed leader of a ruling party trying to seek relevance and re-employment.”

“Those who have a full time job of twisting statements of opposition leaders forget their own favourite slogan ‘Ab Kii Baar, Trump Sarkaar’,” Khera said.

Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also hit out at the BJP over its criticism of Gandhi and said that the former Congress president made a very powerful statement as far as democratic values in India are concerned.

“There was no doubt in his mind, he said this is our problem, this is an internal problem, this is an Indian problem and we will find solutions within India,” Shrinate told reporters here at the AICC headquarters.

“He (Gandhi) also went on to say that when 140 crore people are part of your democratic system, the fate of Indian democracy impacts the fate of democracy on the planet. He is actually telling the world that India will decide the fate and direction of democracies all over the world, it is a hugely laudable statement,” she said.

“If anybody had any sense they would applaud him but instead the Modi government, its two-rupee trolls, its MLAs, MPs, ministers, out of job ministers, are all running forth as to who would stoop lower,” Shrinate said.

Each time Rahul Gandhi gives a statement, the BJP is “rattled”, she claimed.

She also said that if the BJP has issues with what he has said, it should debate all those topics he has spoken on in Parliament.

Gandhi told British parliamentarians in London on Monday that microphones in front of opposition members in Lok Sabha are often silenced.

During an event organised by veteran Indian-origin Opposition Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma within the House of Commons complex, he said opposition parties in India are often not allowed to debate issues in Parliament.

Prasad said Gandhi has forgotten all parliamentary norms, political propriety and “democratic shame” by criticising Indians from abroad.

He further said people of India neither listen nor understand him and supporting him is a distant thing.

Therefore, Gandhi goes abroad and laments that India’s democracy is in danger. This is a matter of great shame, Prasad added.

“Rahul Gandhi has insulted everything, including India’s democracy, parliament, people, political system, judicial system and strategic security,” the former Union minister said.

He also accused Gandhi of seeking the intervention of Europe and the US in India and said he had gone against the consensus in India against any interference in its internal affairs by foreign powers.

“Rahul Gandhi has tried to embarrass the country by saying that Europe and America should interfere in the internal affairs of India,” he said.

The BJP leader also slammed Rahul Gandhi for his condemnation of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), claiming that the Hindutva organisation has been serving society and the nation.

Gandhi’s remarks at various interactions in the UK have led to a war of words between the BJP and the Congress with the ruling party accusing him of maligning India on foreign soil and the opposition party hitting back by citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raking up internal politics abroad.

It’s time for Azaan, Modi respects so we do: BJP MP Arvind in Dubai

    [ad_1]

Jeddah: “It’s time for Azaan and our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi respects Azaan and hence I stop my speech now a while”, these were the words by BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind.

Representing Nizamabad Lok Sabha Constituency by defeating none other than K. Kavita, who was the sitting MP, Arvind is known for fierce speeches.

The young BJP leader is in Dubai to participate in a meeting organized by NRI community organization, Indian People Forum (IPF) that leans towards BJP, on Sunday evening.

IPF has organized a meeting at Al Qouz with the theme of “Sadura Teera Sindhura Keratalau” (Saffron waves at far shores) where MP was addressing.

Arvind took a brief pause, after he was alerted about Azan by one leader on the stage, before continuing his speech that targeted KCR and his family without naming them.

Dr. Vijay Chowtaiwale of BJP’s foreign affairs wing was chief guest of the meeting.

Arvind said that his call center, established exclusively to cater the needs of Gulf NRIs, has so far repatriated 4,700 Indians from Gulf countries and supported many during Covid-19 crisis.

The MAP highlighted Pravasa Bheema Yojana Scheme of Government of India to Indian workers who are coming to Gulf countries. He asserted that the insurance scheme has solutions for every issue of NRI.

Arvind has a considerable following in Dubai and visits the emirate often. He played an important role in the IPF meeting.

A huge workforce that works in Dubai, Sharjah and other emirates in UAE is hailing from Northern Telangana region that is represented by BJP MPs Bandi Sanjay, Dharmapuri Arvind and Soyam Bapu Rao.

BJP is working on war footing to woo the youth in Telangana and its youth abroad. The party gives utmost importance to its cadre and fans in Gulf countries.

The visiting union ministers make a point, amidst their busy official schedules, by meeting saffron cadres irrespective of their job or financial status.

Tipu Sultan razed temple to build Jama Masjid, claims Karnataka BJP

    [ad_1]

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary C T Ravi claimed that the Jama Masjid in Srirangapatnam town of Mandya district, Karnataka is built over an ancient Anjanaya (Hanuman) temple, which was ‘razed down’ by Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan.

Addressing reporters, Ravi, flanked by senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa, demanded an archaeological survey of the mosque in order to prove his point.

“There’s a Kote Anjaneya temple that has been turned into a Masjid. Let the archaeology department survey it. If there is any evidence of a temple then they (Congress) must accept the fact that Tipu was a fanatic, if not, we will tender an apology,” said Ravi.

The 18th-century Mysuru ruler is a constant target of the saffron party.

Last year, state chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had said that the people of the state wouldn’t forgive Congress leaders for displaying a soft corner for terrorists and for talking about Tipu Sultan in order to appease the minority vote bank. He made the remarks while addressing a Jan Sankalp Yatra that was attended by former CM B S Yediyurappa in Pandavapura.

On February 10, Ravi accused the Congress party of doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. “Congress is doing politics on the policies of Tipu Sultan. We are doing politics on the policies of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar,” he said.

On February 15, Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kateel Kumar, while addressing a public rally, asked them to “kill” all “ardent followers” of Tipu Sultan.

“I ask the people here whether you offer prayers to Lord Hanuman or Tipu. Then will you send those who are ardent followers of Tipu to the forest? Think about it. Do you think Karnataka needs Hanuman devotees or descendants of Tipu? I am issuing a challenge — those who are ardent followers of Tipu should not remain alive on this fertile soil,” Kateel said.

    [ad_1]

Davanagere: The prime accused in the Lokayukta trap case, BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa, surfaced on Tuesday after obtaining interim anticipatory bail in his Channagiri constituency and was given a hero’s welcome by his supporters.

The MLA who was in hiding for the last six days, surfaced in his native Madal and visited his house after the court gave him relief. His followers burst crackers and celebrated the occasion. Later, he went to Channeshapura village in Channagiri taluk and was welcomed in a grand procession by a large number of supporters.

Virupakshappa waved at his supporters from his open vehicle throughout the procession. Later, he went to Chennakeshava temple and sought blessings after offering special worship. His supporters with BJP flags thronged both sides of the road, showered flowers and cheered him.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Madal Virupakshappa in connection with a bribe for tender scam in which he is named as the prime accused.

The single bench division court headed by Justice K. Natarajan after granting the bail, directed the accused MLA to appear before the investigating officer within 48 hours of the order.

The MLA was absconding and the Lokayukta special teams had launched a hunt for him. His son Prashath Madal was caught red-handed while receiving a Rs 40 lakh bribe towards allotment of procurement of raw materials to the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), a public sector unit.

Karnataka bribery case: BJP likely to expel accused MLA

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: The Karnataka unit of BJP, which suffered a setback following MLA Madal Virupakshappa being named as the prime accused in a bribe for tender case, is considering expelling him from the party, sources have confirmed.

The MLA’s bail plea is coming up for hearing on Tuesday, and all eyes are on the court.

Sources said that the party leaders and high command have taken a call already in this regard. The party has also decided not to issue the ticket to contest election to any of his family members.

The High Court will give its judgement on the accused BJP MLA’s bail plea. If the bail plea is rejected, his arrest will become imminent. The accused MLA has also submitted a petition seeking the quashing of FIR against him.

The BJP MLA from Channagiri constituency has been absconding and special Lokayukta teams are trying to hunt him down. His son, Prashath Madal was caught red-handed while receiving Rs 40 lakh bribe towards allotment of procurement of raw materials to the Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), a public sector unit.

The accused MLA was the Chairman of the KSDL and his son was receiving bribes allegedly on behalf of his father.

The party has already obtained a report from the disciplinary committee in this regard. The committee has recommended the MLA’s expulsion from the party to the central disciplinary committee to recover from the damage done to the party. The party wants to give a message that it won’t tolerate corruption.

The state BJP unit has requested the high command to make the decision as early as possible. The party thinks that the severity of damages will be more if the action is delayed.

Former Chief Minister and BJP Central Parliamentary Board Member B.S. Yediyurappa had stated that the party won’t support MLA Madal Virupakshappa and he will be arrested in a day or two. Meanwhile, the issue has become a major weapon in the hands of Congress, JD(S) and AAP parties to attack the BJP.
